I'm 2 weeks post op and am wondering if I should be doing anything besides walking. I walk 30 min a day and do some household chores, but not all that much as I am always exhausted. What were you doing @ this stage?

This may be way too technical but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which was the better supplement? I'm six months out from surgery, 93lbs down and I've started doing fasted cardio every morning and my muscles are rather sore. I've been reading about how BCAAs help with muscle recovery but I've also read that HMB supplements can help when you're on a calorie restricted diet and are doing fasted cardio. Reading about all of the science leaves me a bit cross-eyed so I was wondering if anyone has had an actual experience with either?

Has anyone here heard about Orange Theory Fitness? There is one opening up near me, and I am interested in joining. I am 5 week’s post op and feeling great. I’ve been doing cardio and have no pain or any discomfort and want to kick my exercise up. I’ve been looking for a PT for when I hit 3 months PO, but they are sooooo expensive. $80+ per session. I only planned to meet with them once per week, but it’s just too much. So i heard about OTF and wanted to see if anyone on here is a member by chance?

How accurate are the ideal weight calculations made by measurements of body parts such at bone diameter and stuff? Long ago, before I got more obese, I had such a measurement done at a gym by one of their people. They came out with 225lb. The vague BMI calc says 189 before stepping into obese category. That is a 19% difference. I do have slightly larger leg and thing bones I believe from profilic bike riding as an adolescent. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

I've recently gotten back into belly dancing, something that I've missed dearly for years. It's become my form of exercise, but now I'm curious. For those of you who've already had surgery, how long was it before you felt you could get dancing again?

I was going to the gym pretty regularly for a couple years before my surgery, but it's been fits and starts since then. Took time off for surgery, don't go when my bowels are unpredictable, etc. Anyway, I went this morning and was using the rowing machine (my favorite piece of equipment) and had this weird feeling along my lower rib, right hand side. It wasn't painful, so I'm not worried, it was just odd so I'm curious. When I pulled back on the "oars", I got this odd pop, pop, pop feeling, almost like bubbles popping. Not just once, it happened every time. Does anyone know what causes this? Thanks!

So obviously I have a bad back. Ive been out of work for 3 plus years because of it. I am/was a flooring contractor and because of all the heavy lifting and tearing up of old floors etc. it took a toll on my back. Not to mention as I got older the weight just packed on and as my back slowed me down the weight gain sped up. Along with a bad back and hopefully because of my weight I suffer from sciatica on both legs from hip to knees. I have newly acquired pain ( last year or so) in my hips knees and ankles. I can't walk more than a few feet without having major pain, standing up without leaning or holding the captian morgan pose is nearly impossible. I have weights and a s…

Are there any muscles that benefits from being overweight? I am not a particularly strong man, but in my past I did have a more powerful lower body from bike riding and swim teams. When I go to the gym, all my weights, are light. Every machine I use, I gotta reduce the weight from previous users! But when it comes to abdominal crunches and back extensions, I am on the opposite side and I am using far more weights available. Maybe the machines use too little weights. For example, I chest press 60lbs both arms together for 3 sets 12 rep. Abdominals I am at 140 lbs (or more). Back extensions, I am at 160 lbs, and torso rotations 135 lbs and I am still hunting for a…

First - I’m on the mobile app and can’t figure out a way to search the forums so I apologize in advance if this has been asked and answered. I’ve joined a new kickboxing gym that will open by July 1. I’m not new to kickboxing but it has been over a year since I last did it regularly. My surgery is Aug 13 so I figure I’ll have at least 30 days prior to surgery to get back into it. I know the general guidelines are to wait 6 weeks from surgery before doing intense exercise. I’m assuming that applies here as well. There is some serious core work going on. Anyone else got back into this after surgery?

I know your time is valuable, so I'll get to the point. I need your advice!! I'm considering writing a book about being morbidly obese and the struggles related to it and also how losing weight has improved my quality of life. For reference, I've lost over 250 pounds myself. I really want to make sure I don't leave anything out. So, will you let me know your biggest struggle and,if you were able to overcome it, how did you do it? It can be anything... even if you think it's silly.

So I’ve been in a stall for the last month, toying with the same 2 pounds. With the help of a fitness guru coworker, she created ~45 minute circuits for me to do at the gym. Yesterday’s was “leg, back, biceps” and it was SO challenging which is just what I needed. It’s definitely a far departure from my usual . Today I’m super sore, but stretching a lot since tomorrow is circuit #2–arms. Hoping this eventually jolts me out of my stall, but it’ll probably take time—these muscles are like “the heck you doing to me woman?!” ? I’m hoping with a little protein before and after the workout I won’t need a calorie adjustment. 500-600 calories has served me well most of the time,…

So I have recently started working out with a bit more intensity. Before I was just doing cardio. So I have incorporated weight lifting into my routine as well now. So my main questions are since I am doing a lot more exercise do I need to increase my calories? Is that to much exercise at this point? Any other pointers would be great. My routine is 35 minutes on the elliptical, followed by about 20-30 minutes of weight training, followed by another 15 minutes on the elliptical I am eating between 600-800 calories a day. But usually closer to 600. My carbs stay under 20.

I need to tell my entire story. Sorry if it's a bit long. I was sleeved 5 years ago. I started at 280 lbs, had high blood pressure, GERD, and bad sleep apnea. After surgery, I lost weight remarkably fast. I was past goal (190) within 9 months. I got off the blood pressure medication, and my sleep apnea was cured. Then I kept losing. Everyone was telling me I was losing too much, but I just couldn't stop. The lowest I got down to was 169. At 6'1", people were telling me I was too skinny. Once the weightloss stopped, I fluctuated between 170 and 180 for the next year. In that second year, I decided that I wanted to try running. I had never run in my life, or done much …

I am on my 3rd tracker. Had one Fitbit, Apple Watch and Garmin. my Garmin lasted the longest (over a year). I returned the Apple Watch because I thought it wasn’t athletic enough. Fitbit stopped working. It is a mess to return them because they want pics/proof and would take 2+ weeks to fix. but anyhow I dislike that these products get ruined so quickly. Although I am willing to try the new Fitbit versa when it is released because the bands are interchangeable. I am also willing to go back to Apple Watch but I fear it won’t be as durable as the other athletic looking ones. so I am just curious to see which ones you all have and your experiences, thanks!

I am horrible at working out and I have lost 113 pounds in 7 months. My weight loss is going very slow now and I am getting nervous I want to hit my goal weight. I have 29 pounds left to do that so I got a treadmill and I want to do that plus other workouts. Has anyone had success doing workouts at home for arms and tummy especially for saggy skin? If so what did you do I would really like to try some for arms and tummy. Summer is around the corner and would love to tone up a bit.

I am stepping way out of my comfort zone to do something I have always dreamed of. I'm signing up to do a trail half marathon! http://usnwc.org/play/whitewater-race-series/upcoming/the-new-south-trail-marathon/ Already checked with the race director to make sure it was okay that I walked part of it. I know for sure there's no way I could run the whole thing. My plan is to run a mile or two walk a mile or two. I don't care if I come in last for my age group, my goal is to finish! Any tips for me on staying hydrated during the race and what to eat before/during/after the race? VSG 10/11/17 HW = 360 SW = 292 CW = 238 GW = 220 (6'5")

Started running today. First time I’ve really run in over 10 years. I was able to do 2 miles with mile 1 taking 10 minutes and mile 2 11 minutes. Felt pretty good about it given how long its been, carrying a lot less weight makes it much easier. Starting to train for a 5k in June and thinking of doing some long distance biking so will need to get conditioned. The high protein diet seems to be really helping preserve muscle, last time I lost this much weight I was unable to run a mile when I hit goal (about 30 lbs from where I am now).

Until I discovered that over the winter, my tires had lost air. It makes a HUGE difference when your tires that should hold 50-60 psi....have about 20 pounds in them. Lesson Learned! Was so glad to try it again after I aired the tires up....was the first time I'd gone for a ride since last fall, and it felt dishearteningly awful with the squishy tires. With proper air....i'm flying again:) Felt wonderful to go a couple of miles and back. Really enjoying riding my bike again!

With some of this new found positivity, I am going back to school full time starting on May 16th for Automotive and Diesel Technology. This opportunity opened as a direct result of being on a path to better help. I couldn't imagine doing this last year as a mechanic has a fairly active job and I did not feel terribly self-confident about being able to do it. I don't have a background using hand tools, much less doing complex rebuilds and diagnoses but the school is setup to take someone from very raw beginner to a reasonably competent tech in about a year and a half. 2018 is really going to be the year of change for me! New body, new lifestyle, and new profession. May our…

Found this little gem and have really been enjoying this workout. Packs a big punch in not much time, but is easier on your joints. These cool little trampolines aren't too expensive. You can pick them up at garage sales sometimes, or buy one on Amazon for around $50. (not this particular brand) Be sure to check weight limits. Mine goes up to 300, but they make bigger ones if you need them. Rebounding is amazing for reducing lymph edema and toning up:) Really fun, too:)

I was sleeved May 23 2017. I am 129 pounds down in 11 months. I have worked out but very, VERY sporadically. I have a quarter clubbed foot I had surgery on three weeks after my sleeve and have been healing it. I’m active, walk a lot. Another fear of mine (perhaps ignorant of me) was concern about starting a workout regiment too soon because before the sleeve I had lost 119 pounds naturally and worked out like crazy :: cycled to gym, did a two hour work out that included a full body circuit of positive and negative exercises isolating the muscles, and at least 45 minutes of cardio, plus finishing exercises, and then the cycle ride home. Then my body said forget it, you ca…

I finally went to my doctor the other day after almost a year of elbow pain. She touched it and was like "yep you've got golfers elbow." Pretty funny because I HATE GOLF lol. Anyway I took a break from some exercise because the darn thing hurts like a mother (and is on my dominant hand...yaaay[emoji58]) Anyway my arms are starting to look like literal bat arms (all skinny and crap.) After surgery, I found that I had increased energy and stamina (the ability to perform physical labor). Over the years I had become flabby and overweight, but now I was fit and lean. Exercise is good, but sometimes one can overdo the exercise and cause harm. Rhabdomyolysis, or rhabdo for short, occurs when muscle damage is done after trying to lift too much weight, or lifting with such frequent repetition that it prevents the taxed muscles from resting. When this happens muscle fibers break down and die. These fibers then enter the bloodstream and can create kidney problems, and in some cases, kidney failure. Some severe cases may require kidney dialysis. Ho…
