Kickboxing Post-Op

First - I’m on the mobile app and can’t figure out a way to search the forums so I apologize in advance if this has been asked and answered.

I’ve joined a new kickboxing gym that will open by July 1. I’m not new to kickboxing but it has been over a year since I last did it regularly. My surgery is Aug 13 so I figure I’ll have at least 30 days prior to surgery to get back into it.

I know the general guidelines are to wait 6 weeks from surgery before doing intense exercise. I’m assuming that applies here as well. There is some serious core work going on.

Anyone else got back into this after surgery?

Yes. But only 8 weeks after surgery. That was my restriction from the surgeon. And I really didn’t do it much until the 4 month mark but that was more of a personal choice.

I haven't had surgery yet but I have been toying with the idea of kickboxing. Since I haven't had the surgery yet and I'm still very overweight, I wasn't really sure whether it was something I should try yet. What was your experience like prior to surgery?
