Exercise on a liquid non-protein diet? Really? Too tired, how?

Recommended Posts

How do they expect us to exercise when we are so weak and only on a liquid, non-protein diet? I’m much too weak! See doc tomorrow, and pray for a diet change! Over Christmas, it was torture!! How do you exercise at this stage? I also had a Hiatal hernia repair done too!!

I did little things, I would get up and walk around the house for about ten minutes at a time and slowly build up from there. Just start small! Good luck!

I wasn't allowed to do much other than walk the first four weeks or so. I found daily walking pretty do-able..

I'm not sure of what you mean by non-protein diet. I was on full liquids with my Proteins coming from shakes or Oikos Triple Zero yogurt in the first two weeks after surgery. My surgery was on a Tuesday. I came home Wednesday. By Saturday, I was at the gym riding a recumbent bike for an hour (slowly, but riding). I walked extensively and after my first post-op appointment - a week after surgery - I was cleared to do what I wanted in the gym so long as it didn't hurt - but not lifting more than 15 pounds in the first four weeks. I was doing cardio in the gym 2-3 times a week - walking on the treadmill, riding a recumbent bike.

Are you getting enough Water in? Dehydration can make you tired.

Well Diane, I also had a Hiatal Hernia procedure done at same time. I was told to stay on pure clears and given a list of what was allowed. No Proteins on list and tomorrow I will find out what I graduate to, as far as a smooth diet. But congrats on your extraordinary ability to do it all!

Then, walk as best you can. Assuming your procedure was laparoscopic, it takes a good week to get rid of the gas and walking makes a difference. Getting in your Water or whatever other liquids you are allowed is important, too. I'm sorry I had an easy recovery. I'm sorry you are having a rough time. It does get better. Do what you can, as you can. I didn't have a choice about getting better - I had to go back to work the Monday after surgery because if I don't work, I don't get paid. I don't get sick time, disability time or vacation time.

Thanks for the info, and you are one tough cookie!! Wish I was, but some have told me my issue is a bit more, due to the dual procedure and it was laparoscopic.

Regards,

Martina

Exercise..Most of us were given instructions to walk for the healing process. I could not imagine trying to weight lift or do zumba after a surgery. What kind of exercise did your Dr have in mind?

Hope you feel better as your diet progresses. Hang in there!

Yeah I can barely manage my job as an RN at this point, 3 weeks out.... Working out at the gym, besides walking, just isn't happening, even on purée. I need food for fuel.

After a week out, I have been trying to do 30 minutes of exercise 5-6 days a week. I've been walking, playing Just Dance, and using the Arc trainer/elliptical. I'm only doing what I feel like I can, and I try to take it somewhat easy. My doctor's office just said to take it slow and do what I feel capable of doing.

I also had hiatal hernia and umbilical hernia repair and I was told no gym not even the treadmill for 6 weeks. Walking only. And I am drinking 2 Protein Shakes a day. 12 days out from surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
