For the past six days, the first six days of the year, I have registered over 10,000 steps each day on my FitBit between working out an hour at the gym each morning, then another 30 minutes at home later in the day. But we have ice on the roads this morning. Treacherous driving. Which means no going to the gym for me this morning. It's only 11F out, so it's frigid and the roads are going to stay frozen. So I don't know how on earth I can get 10,000 steps at home, but I'm going to give it a heck of a try!

Hi guys ! I'm basically 4 months post op and lost around 58lbs (26,5kgs). I've been walking a lot, but I don't feel like it's enough. I haven't started going to the gym because I've seen so many different opinion on going to the gym and weightlifting. Dr Vuong explains that during this phase our body is in catabolism, meaning we basically breakdown our muscles and that's how we loose all this weight. He says that starting heavy exercise is counter intuitive as it will increase our appetite and work against the surgery. I'm very lost right now because I would like to start going to the gym and shape my body. I'm an absolute beginner, I have no idea what to do. Could …

Just curious to know if and when you started to exercise after surgery? If so what are some of the things your doing? I do some light stuff, like walking my dog around the neighborhood. I suffer from Fibromyalgia and am in a lot of pain most days. Looking forward to swimming very soon as the weather is getting nicer. I don't want to join a gym because I know I will never go and it will just be a waste of money.

I'm looking to spice up my exercise routines. I'm a relative beginner and am still obese so the exercises I can do are still limited. I'm interested in gaining strength so I can do a wider range of exercises. So I wanted to ask what are your favorite exercises/routines and why?

I have bad knees, one of which was replaced but still hurts two years later. As a result, I cannot walk long distances even if I use a cane or rollator. Instead, I do aquatic exercise and use fins and a kick-board to swim laps at the local YMCA pool. I started using the pool before I had total knee replacement in a "Hip & Knee Class" recommended by my orthopedic surgeon. I liked it so much that I continued in the class for a year after surgery. Then COVID struck and everything shut down. A year later, in April 2021, I was so discouraged by being at home all the time and not getting exercise, I called three people who had been in the "Hip & Knee" class and …

What does your “Best Me” in fitness terms look like? For me it is the feeling of feeling free. Free of the excess weight, free of the constant emotional abuse I have done to my self by telling myself I am not good enough. I am good enough and so are you! I have done a lot of hard work over the past 6 months to get myself to the place I am in now, but I want more! In 2015 I ran the Buffalo NY half marathon and it was the most freeing experience ever. I am not a runner and I do not like running, but crashing the challenge had me wanting it more then ever! Try something new and challenge yourself! I am determined to make 2022 my best year ever! Want to join me? I am…

I started working out pretty hard 6 months before my surgery. I would sweat profusely within minutes of starting. I'm right at 3 months post-op and I'm doing my same cycles with cardio and weight training but with more intensity and longer duration and I'm sweating a lot less. Like just my collar is wet....not my whole shirt like in days pass.. anyone else run into this? When i work out I like to walk out of the gym looking like I got dunked in a pool....

So I could use some help. Had surgery Dec 20, 2019, but really started working out (lifting and running) in Oct. Since I increased my activity level, I have been just hungry. My eating habits are all over—trying to get protein, but hungry (so I’m grabbing handfuls of whatever). I haven’t been tracking food accurately due to being snacky. And unfortunately gaining weight (roughly +7 pounds—from 143 to 150). I can’t tell if it’s muscle or flab. Clothes still fit, but my body dysmorphia is in full bloom and I feel like I look like I’m back at pre-WLS shape. The working out has been amazing though, and I’m enjoying the weightlifting in particular. I know at 2 years it’s…

I know it’s been discussed, but just wondering if anyone has advise for sagging arms or loose skin? I’m not even to surgery yet and already have worsening of the flabby arm skin. Besides plastic surgery are there any particular exercises, sleeves, etc that may help? I do CrossFit 3xa week and walking other days. So I do lift weights in combo with cardio. Just thinking ahead and maybe can figure something out to help along the way. Also, what about garments, lotions, supplements etc??? Just a thought. Thanks!

Hi all, I'm approaching 5 months post op and really struggling to lose. I am between 600-800 calories daily, hydrating, 60 grams minimum of protein, getting in an hour of cardio almost daily... According to my baritastic app, I'm burning around 1000 calories from cardio. And I'm still bouncing around the same 5 pounds from my last post. Am I doing too much cardio? I don't think I'm building much muscle because I don't really have any muscle aches. I feel stuck and down and still have SO much weight to lose.

I have not done any exercising at all. I am almost 6 months post op. I had the bypass, and have lost 75 lbs. to date. I have gone down 5 sizes. I feel that if I exercise, I will lose too much weight. I already look too skinny. I can't eat more, to compensate. It is still hard for me to eat a lot. I still get full easily. I am looking fwd. to the weather getting better, so I can at least take my dog for a walk around the neighborhood. Is this bad, that I am not exercising at all right now at this stage of WLS?

Workout Regimen?? Hey all! I am 3 months post op (35F, HW: 280, SW: 250, CW:210) and have been consistently walking, doing yoga, and some strength training for over 2 months. I would like to incorporate more strength-based workouts so tried a HIIT class yesterday which I really enjoyed (super sore today ?). I keep reading that doing heavy cardio can stall weight loss so I am hesitant to go frequently even though I am more interested in the strength days. Anyone have a similar experience? Did intensifying your workouts slow your progress at all?

Hi Everyone, I'm pre-op with my expected surgery in late summer or early fall. I'm reaching out to see if anyone started olympic lifting before losing some weight or being a more "normal" size. When I was a little thinner (like 230 at 5 foot 7) a few years ago I did olympic weightlifting for a few weeks before I moved abroad and had to stop. I LOVED it. I know strength training is important as you lose weight, and since I'm already losing, I'm wondering if a way to start up again from nothing would be olympic weightlifting. Did you have flexibility/mobility issues that prevented you from having good form? If you started while obese how did you start, how did you fin…

Do you have United Healthcare? I recently discovered a plan through them called "United Healthcare Motion" where they will send you an Apple Watch SE for $23 (for a $300+ watch) and in return, you have to pay off the balance over 6 months by walking three times a week. There are fitness goals of F: Fitness- walk 500 steps 6 times a day I: Intensity- walk 3,000 steps in 30 minutes T: Tenacity- walk 10,000 steps throughout the day I got my watch right after Christmas and have had no problem with the "I" and the "T" and just had to make a few adjustments to my normal routine fit in the "F" portion. I'd encourage you to check it out if you happen to have…

I am 3.5 months post op sleeve and started back to the gym for weight training. I am thinking of going 3 times per week with 1-2 days in between workout days. I walk 60 minutes daily and will keep that up on non gym days. Probably will walk 30 minutes on gym days. Does that seem to be enough weight training to make a difference? Looking to tone up and fill in loose skin in problem areas while continuing to lose weight in honeymoon phase. Will the weight training slow down my weight loss?

Is anyone that is disabled get the gastric sleeve and lost a lot of weight without having to exercise too much I talk to my surgeon about my disability and I can’t really walk or stand or anything for too long and I was worried that I would be wasting my time getting the surgery and not lose any weight but he encouraged me that he has patients that can’t exercise and they’ve lost weight so I just want someone to confirm that this is possible.

So, I threw together a Spotify playlist to listen to when I do my mostly daily walking for exercise. The songs range ALL over the place, but generally are tracks that I consider to be high energy or have a strong rhythm to keep me moving. I decided to open it up as a Collaborative Playlist the other day and asked friends on Facebook and Twitter to add stuff to it to hopefully increase the variety. And well...hey...I spend a decent amount of time here. This is a type of a social setting with people who are also committed to their weight loss journeys...so why not throw it out there to another audience to see about getting some more songs on that playlist. …

I had RNY in 2019. I have lost 83 lbs. I walk daily and started ab workouts, yes while walking, to try to firm up my stomach. To me it does not look like I have a lot of loose skin on my stomach and it feels hard not soft. I look 6-7 months pregnant still. I do carry most of my weight in my stomach area. I am almost at my "goal" weight I have set for myself. Any ideas on how to get rid of my "baby"? TYIA

I am just over 6 weeks post-op and have lost 35 pounds. I was a regular exerciser before surgery (strength training and cardio 5-6x a week). As I lose more weight, I notice that my thighs are getting a big smaller, but my inner thighs are still really jiggly and blubbery and I'm really self-conscious about them. Not only that, they are uncomfortable when I wear shorts, skirts, and dresses. I have a lot more weight to lose and I've slowly been getting back into exercise with the permission of my surgeon. When I get fully back into the swing of things, I tend to do a lot of running, squats, lunges, and plyometrics. I am wondering: what are the best exercises for toning inne…

I’m a 20 year old guy and I’m just over 2 months post op and down 64 pounds with about another 75 or so left until I reach my goal weight. Men (within 10 years of my age) who had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy procedure done, what did you look like when you reached your goal weight? Excess skin? Noticeable muscle definition? Just trying to get an idea of how I may look like it’s very difficult to imagine what I could look like after being obese for about a decade.

It is finally nice where I live, here in NH. It has been in the 60's for the past 3 days. Every day I go outside, and rake/burn leaves. It will take a while, as I have an acre of land to clean up, but I look fwd. to it. This is the most exercise I have done in years! Before the WLS, I had to use a cane, and a wheelchair, just to get around. Now I do not need these things. It feels so good to be free! I never thought I would like doing yard work, but I am enjoying every single minute of it. The first day, I only did it for about 45 minutes. The second day, about an hour, and today, almost 2 hours. I am sore, but not overly, like I was afraid of. Doing stuff like this has b…

Hello! My surgeon cleared me to resume activity as normal on Tuesday and I went back to the gym on Wednesday. Nothing crazy, 25 min of light cardio and about 20 minutes of light strength training. Thursday morning I woke up feeling off, and the more sore my muscles got the worse I felt. Like yucky. Just completely worn out. I'm hitting my protein and fluid goals (90oz and 90g) daily. I am just over 4 weeks PO, but like I said, cleared for activity. Too soon for the strength training? Should I try weights again in a few weeks? I was so certain I was going easy on myself, lol.

Hi Y'all, I had sleeve surgery 7 months ago on the 17th. I've been stuck for about 2 months now at 226lbs from 318lbs. I can't seem to find where I should be macro wise to get me out of this stall. Its been very emotionally draining as I have no restrictions in regards to what I can eat just portion and well I'm an emotional eater. I'm truly just at a loss and I'm dying to get to wonderland. I do an hour of CrossFit 3 times a week and my CrossFit trainer keeps telling me I'm not eating enough. I don't think she fully understands and I'm not getting much from my doctor. I get anywhere from 1,000-1,300 on non gym days and 1,300-1,500 calories on gym days, 30-90 carbs and 70…

So, I haven't really been at the gym since September 2019. I herniated a disc in my back and by the time that felt better I had my TT and arm lift. Once that healed, I made it back in a few times and COVID occurred. I am not an at-home exerciser so the gym was my thing. My gym reopened in May (?) but the locker rooms are closed and they are at reduced capacity, so I requested my account stay on hold. Now I've recently had my butt and leg lift and implants, so I can't exercise until September 1-ish anyways. I am really itching to get back. My TT seems all flabby and I want to tone my new booty and get back to spin. Are you guys back in the gym and do you feel your gy…

My dr requires patients to work up to 60 min a day of exercise before surgery. At 270 lbs and with spondylosis, that is pretty much impossible. My back gets so painful the next day when I try to increase time ..... I can do 30-35 min but just cannot get beyond that. Anyone else have this requirement and did it cause you problems from not being able to do it?

LOOKING For a GOOD, Reasonably Priced Fitness Tracker I bought a Fitbit in 2016 and did not use it until 2019. It died in early 2020 while I was doing my pre-op weight loss diet. I don't want to spend quite so much this time around. Amazon and a bunch of other vendors have a slew of low-cost fitness trackers. Some are modeled on Fitbit, some look like large-face wrist-watches. Anybody have a good experience with any of these? Links and your reviews/opinions appreciated!

Hi - it is getting hotter and more humid here, plus there are more folks outside, so I'm finding it really hard to get outside for walks. Before all this started, I was finishing week for of C25K, but I really can't run with a mask on. I still do Pilates 1-2 times a week, but REALLY need some cardio. I've tried some online classes, but haven't found anything that really works for me. I really want something focused on cardio (so not weights or a bunch of planks, etc). I've tried some Zumba - they're OK, but I am not coordinated, so I'd say I run in place for about 1/2 of any given class because I can't do the moves. Would love any recommendations. I have Amazon Prim…

Did you guys gain weight during quarantine? If so, what are you doing to lose it? Pre-quarantine my weight was at 153 lbs. I was at the weight for about a year and was having a really hard time bringing it down! During the 6 months of quarantine, I gained about 7 lbs since the gyms were closed and I'm really bad at working out from home. Since I was already having a hard time dropping from 153 lbs, I'm afraid I'm going to get stuck at 160 lbs. I know it doesn't sound so bad, but I am 5'1 so the extra 7 lbs really show! When I gain weight, it's evident in my arms and my chest area, so although my jeans fit just fine, my Medium shirts are too tight!!!
