I'm post lap band surgery and while I've been losing at a slow/consistent rate, I'm experiencing a symptom the past 2 weeks. As background.. Soon after the surgery and adequate fills, I had been experiencing lower gas which has been more embarrassing than anything else. My surgeon explained that the gas had to go somewhere so I didn't think it was serious. I also had trouble pooping more from the ability to push it out. I adapted my diet and that seemed to help but not prevent. I was fearful that pushing too hard would be harmful; so as gross as it sounds, I used my finger to expell. Now, I have chronic diarrhea that inconsistently comes and goes without any othe…

St Patrick's Day was my surgery date so I'm always celebrating on this day. Today I finished a 4 Miler walk and I'm tired but logged more than 17,500 steps on my FitBit today. I often wonder how others I felt so much support from on this group. I'm down 95 lbs from my starting weight so that is great to still say but I've got about 40 lbs to get to the lowest weight I had achieved in 2010. At that point several things drove me back to some bad eating habits but I feel back in control now. Using WW for weekly accountability weigh ins. I asked my surgeon why the lapband fell out of favor and he said slips and other reasons that many had been converted to gastric sleeve or …

My rant..... Maybe I'm just being a brat but I feel like I don't have support on my decision to have lapband. Yes I spent the money because I was tired of the struggle of not losing weight. Not that I still don't struggle but my lapband helps me. So yesterday I was told by my step mother that she's lost 39 lbs (same as me) that what helped her lose weight was the motivation that I got surgery and spent money and she was gonna prove that she could do it without that. Geeeee thanks! ? Mind you we never had a great relationship. Glad I could motivate you in such a way to make yourself healthier. Idk how to respond I was just like well I needed it and said I was …

Hey Guys, So, as dumb as it is, I never quit smoking Pre-Op, Post-Op or anywhere in between. My Dr. required a nicotine test for the Sleeve but not the Lap-Band, so I guess I didn't feel the need to quit. I know, I know. So I am 10 months post-op, 100 lbs down, and I decided to quit about 3 days ago. I have been using Patches. I know increased "appetite" is a common when quitting, and I realize at 198lbs, that me smoking poses more of a health risk to myself than my weight currently does, but I still would like to continue to lose weight, but all I can seem to do is cram food in my mouth all day long. Any tips to keep my mind busy during this time? Or…

It is definitely a lifestyle change, you fall off the wagon sometimes but the key is to get back up. I continue to listen to my stomach when it is full I stop. I have zero regrets and have not experienced complications since. Very content with my results. SW:287 CW:167

I have just finished a great article that also mentions the notion of Wls recalculating a bodies set point.. (The spot on the scale where your body prefers to stay) It talks about studies that show that Wls resets to a lower number, but often not the lowest number we choose. Furthermore it discusses how it is just as difficult to lower that number, and the body likes to go back to it. Even with exercise diet and due diligence. I found this to be true in my case. The article was studying lap banders in particular and after 10 years , personally, I can adjust that number a bit. I also can attest how hard it is for me to stay at 10 lbs below it. I don't have to mention it…

I had my first fill on Tuesday which took my 10ml band up to 7mls. I had really good restriction until today. My support team said that restriction can be delayed? or I was wondering can not drinking enough make your band feel looser the next day? I didn't drink enough water yestday and had a headache this morning.

Ok so I found several recipes online that are like little wonton wrapper cups that look and sound amazing. Problem is finding the wrappers. I live in a very rural area and the market here just doesn't have them and the ones I found to order online are crazy expensive. I don't really want to try my hand at making them myself(there's a ton of recipes for the wrappers themselves online) , so I was wondering if anyone has tried the cup recipes before and if they had an alternative to the wrappers?

Hello All - I'm trying to identify surgeons who have done replacement bands as a revision procedure. I had a slippage (with no complications) a couple years ago and had my current band (it's an original model, 260 degree) unfilled as a preventative measure for any complications from the slippage and to give me time to decide how i wanted to proceed. I was highly successfull with the band until the slippage, which occurred after the band was overfilled on refill. Since have it unfilled in early 2015, i've slowly gained weight back and have decided I want to fix the issue by having the old band removed and a new band placed. (i've read the research on types of revisions a…

I was banded in 2009. I lost 127lbs at my lowest and 5lb below my goal weight. I also had a personal trainer and started to run, training for a half marathon. During this time I got pregnant with my second child and I had my band deflated. I gained 90lb in 9mo. After I was finished with breast feeding(need nutrition to make milk) I had my band inflated back to 5cc in a 10cc band. Almost 2 years later ( lost 80 of the 90 gain)I started having a sore throat that lasted for months and lost my voice. After many trips to ENT and other doctors we discovered I had chronic reflux. I also had a barium swallow(which I get once a year) and it showed dilated esophagus. My doctor deci…

I just recently got my lap band removed October 27th 2015 (2.5 weeks ago) and STILL CAN NOT eat solid foods. water barely goes down! the first week I could barely drink HOT liquids. & I was hospitalized for dehydration. I had my band removed because It was way to TIGHT! with a slight inflamed esophegus (due to throwing up) and the band is OUT now and STILL throwing up constantly. some days are good and I can eat mushies and soups but majority of the days are horrible I throw up water and coffee first thing in the morninng, as the day progresses it seems to open up more at night and i can eat a little bit. Does any body else have this problem? My surgeon wants to scope…

I am week 4-5 post op and I am starting to be really hungry and slip back into bad habits. I am still on soft foods but think I would be more full if I could eat normal food. I have my fill appointment on the 14th but my band was put in with 4 mls in it. Will another fill make a diffrence? How much do they normally put in at each fill? I am in the uk.

I am stuck. I would say not the good kindness stuck but there really is none. I'm two months away from being 6 years post op, time sure does fly. Anyway, I managed to work my way out of 140 lbs by 2 years time. I'm at the point now where I've put back on 80 lbs. I plateued and lost motivation. I've since filled my band completely, I've worked out regularly and I've eaten well. Obviously not consistently. I've been considering a revision of some sort but my thoughts are what happens if I end up in the place I'm in now again. I'm only 23, there's only so much stomach I can get rid of or portion out. I wanted to know if anyone had completely emptied their …

In August I had my last fill of .3 ccs, bringing me to 7.1 total. I felt green for a long time. Then, in December I started to throw up frequently and I had awful acid reflux in the middle of the night. I would wake up choking on acid, gross. So last week I went back to my doctor and he removed .25 ccs. Now I feel like I made a mistake because I'm hungry earlier during the day and later at night than I have been. I'm also able to eat easier, I feel like I'm not restricted enough. Does anyone know if they are able to put in .1 cc? Anyone else have this experience? I definitely don't want to throw up often and have esophageal issues, but I don't want to gain weight either. …

:cry i am so totally bummed! i just found out that before i can get my band done i have to have cardiac clearance due to an abnormal ekg. the soonest i can get in to have that in is feb 17-21. that will push my band back to 3/3 instead of 2/3. i have had ekg's in the past and they usually come back abnormal because i have very tiny arteries. nevertheless, they wont do it until i get cardiac clearance. this is also going to push back my dh band surgery also until april rather than march. im just so bummed i could just cry. i was so excited and looking forward to next friday.

I am not sure if this is very unique or not. For the last several years I have had an issue with reflux. Not so much heartburn, but if I drink or eat anything after two hours before going to sleep my reflux will cause me to cough for hours and my wife will not be able to sleep. My doctor removed all my fluid from the band and that has cleared up the coughing, however I have gained lots of weight. It has been over a year since the band was drained, I wonder if I can have some fluid put back in?

Hi everyone! I am having surgery on Feb 23 and I have decided that only my parents and my husband will know. I had previously booked a trip to Florida with friends that is now 3 weeks post open. Is there any way I could get the earing changes by them? Any ideas on what I could blame a special diet on? I live my friend but she and her husband have never struggled with their weight and will just never understand! Any advice will be appreciated Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

I believe I'm a better candidate for the band. I'm lower BMI and I like the idea of it being adjustable. Anyway, I hear SUCH bad stories about the band that I'm curious if this actually does work fine for some people?!

I've been banded for 6 years. I reached my goal weight and beyond quickly (I'm 5'8" and I got down to 114 pounds). Slowly, I've gained 40 pounds back (this morning I weighed 153). I am sad every day because I have zero control over what I eat. I'm looking for someone in a similar situation so we can text each other when we feel weak, or somehow help motivate each other. There is a catch-It can't be anyone who will preach that the ways I want to drop the weight are unhealthy, blah blah. We have all been overweight and we know exactly how we got there. We also know every single diet/health tip in the book. Anyone?

In the interest of efficiency, I copied a response I posted on another thread to give my story: I started at 283 in July 2009 with the band. I got down to 218 and maintained between 223-228 until I got pregnant in 2012. Although I was still very overweight, I was happy with my band and much healthier. I would've been satisfied and would've had the band again just for that weight loss. During my pregnancy, I didn't gain much. I got up to 244 thanks to preeclampsia. I had hyperemesis during my pregnancy, and I had to have a complete unfill. My daughter came early, so she was in NICU for 58 days. I stayed with her the entire time. Between being hospitalized before her …

I had the band in place for ten years. Lost a lot of weight but was sick the entire time I had it. I had it removed three years ago due to a bowel blockage that about cost me my life ... I am still sick everyday. Constant nausea .. Constant pain. Stomach burning. Have been treated for ulcers but nothing is making it better. I was told that I would always have problems because of the scar tissue since the band was in me so long. I am requesting to have a scope done. I hurt so bad everyday. Getting the band was my worst decision i ever made ... Does anyone else still have issues 3 plus years out after removal ? Thanks in advance. Also does anyone have any information rega…

Today is the 8th day of my post up and I've been put on pureed/soft foods. Here's the issue now... I've been ok, no nausea, no vomiting. I did something really bad. I ate a chicken sandwich and some other solid foods here and there. I ate very, very, very slow and in small bites. It hasn't caused any nausea or vomiting. My band has just been placed but there isn't any fills yet. What can I do??? I feel so terrible. I hope this won't cause any damage.

For some reason we who are believers tend to have a habit of continually beating ourselves up over everything. I am taking a moment to encourage each and every one of you to stop, pray, and open up to our Heavenly Father in prayer. Share with Him your discouragements over your weight, and your desires to live a more productive life. He already knows anyway... He just wants us to walk in the cool of the day with Him sharing all of ourselves unto Him. Remember the advances in Medical technology are NOT solely for those who do not believe in God, they are for us too. We are His children, and God wants us to seek Him for everything that He may be glorified in all areas of …

I was banded in august of 2015. Surgery went well and I was out of the hospital by the end of the day. I followed all of the diet stages properly and lost about 10 pounds in my first 2 months. In the following months I began to not feel any restriction, I could eat almost whatever I wanted. Honestly, I couldn't even tell I had a lap band inside of me. I went for fills and told the doctor I wasn't feeling any restrictions. 3 fills later and nothing has changed. Fast forward to December 2016, I get a letter in the mail informing me that the band placed inside of me was expired at the time of surgery. ummm what?! I called the number on the letter an…
