So after 11 years of being banded and having my band work for me when I worked with it I have officially had my band removed due to erosion. I am over a week post op and can tell you I don't remember feeling like this after any abdominal surgery and I have had a few. Not sure what others have experienced but I have dealt with incision infection, lack of appetite, stomach gurgling sounds, over sensitive to smells, and a whole host of other issues. I am at the point of wishing I hadn't taken it out. I felt bad before but at least I could function. Sorry just venting as I lay here wondering what will happen next.

Hi Everyone! I was banded in 8/14...lost 35 lbs and gained 20 back. I am on a medication for depression which I struggle with that causes excessive weight gain which has been hindering my progress with the band. I currently weigh 230 lbs. My goal is to get under 200 while being on my medication. Am ready to get back on track and log daily on My Fitness Pal and exercise 3-4 times weekly. I am looking for someone to talk to who can help be a support or who also logs on MFP. Hope to hear from you soon ~Rebecca

Is anyone taking arthritis medicine after surgery? I really need mine and I can't find any information anywhere. I am afraid to ask my doctor, because if I can't have medicine for the arthritis all over my body, I may consider canceling my surgery on the 21st. I don't want to after all I have been through, but the pain of the arthritis is almost unbearable. Please let me know if you are taking something and how it is working for you. Thanks.

I had my lap band since 2008. Fills and some taken out along the way. During my first endoscopy I learned that the band gave me a hiatal hernia, and I had erosion from acid reflux so I was put on Prilosec. Recently, my acid reflux worsened so I had to have another endoscopy (last Thursday). I was then diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus. I am still awaiting my biopsy results to see how bad it may be. And what scares me the most is having to have an endoscopy every year or two from now on- since I have spasms and quit breathing under anesthesia, then have to be intubated. I'm not sure what the treatment will be for me. Has anyone had the band then Barrett's? What treatment …

Heya, im having my band fitted on Friday next week. I am relatively small compared to most people who have this surgery. My story: I weighed 300lb around 2 years ago. I lost 85lb in 6 months and got down to a much healthier weight. I maintained that weight for a year and decided to have an abdominoplasty o take care of all the excess skin and left over stubborn fat. As you can imagine I lost weight very fast and it the shock of going from like 3000 calorie+ days down to at maximum 1500 calorie days with copious amounts intense exercise, it made me feel very depressed and physically sick. It also ruined my metabolism and I pretty much have eat 1500 calories a day…

A couple of weeks ago, I went in for my regular check up with my Bariatric team. I was banded in 2013 and though initially I lost about 40 pounds, I never really saw the weight loss that many others I know have. I had issues on and off with my health, including a bout of what was diagnosed as pancreatitis last summer. It was a very stressful time in my life, my father was terminally ill and nearing the end of his journey. As a main care giver stress was very high. I was sick nearly every day with everything I ate. My band was emptied since I was having these issues and at one point so swollen I could not swallow my own saliva. I had an upper GI and all was well, n…

I was banded in Jan 2013. 2 weeks ago after feeling like I was having a heart attack, not holding food or liquids down and drowning in my sleep I made a trip to the ER to find out the band had slipped again for the 3rd time. So...... after 2 slips and a host of other problems in 4 years my doctor decided it was time to remove it. Having a full time stressful job I tried to plan ahead and asked the Dr for a note and to fill out FMLA paperwork for my job. He would only give me 1 week off. Smh! Anyway, I had the surgery this morning and this is by far the worst pain I have every experienced. 3 babies, 5 abdominal surgeries, ankle surgery and wrist surgery and this pain surpa…

I had my surgery on May 15, 2017. When I had first started the process I had many people saying they would be there for me. I had others say don't do it cause it's the easy way out. The point is I feel like I'm going through my journey alone. It has had some affect on me. The ones who said they would be there for me is not around. I have lost 38 pounds since my surgery and I get people telling me "cool" but they say it in a tone like jealously. I have family members who no longer associate with me cause they don't want to be there for me no more. It hurts just wish I had someone to talk to about the struggles and the Accomplishments I go through Day to day.

Hello everyone, My lap-band was about 17 yrs ago. Haven't had problems until now. When I had my surgery, the doc said if I was "plugged" I could try using some meat tenderizer but I forgot the amounts and I am in mesouri. About 2 days ago I started with something, I was up all night throwing up mucous and with pain. I haven't been able to take any liquid and food. Yesterday the pain was a little better, but still no liquid or food, today about the same. Something has to give! I really haven't had much problem until now and the weight loss has been great. I'd appreciate any suggestions at this point. Thanks

Hi I was banded like 3 -4 yrs ago. It was hard but I did good lost like 60 lbs. then a lot of personal stuff and physical stuff happened. Broke my back, couldn't work or exercise or walk 4 miles a day anymore. I put all my weight back on. I want to restart everything any ideas? What I probably shouldn't have done was I think my band was too tight and I couldn't keep anything down so the new doctor ( my old dr God love him passed away) took fluid out but I still throw up, have the gooey stuff. Sure if I eat ice cream itcgoes down. Do u think I should go back and have the other dr check it?

I have a 10cc band and I got an adjustment yesterday to 7.5cc. I have started burping a lot and last night I was woken up with acid reflux. Water, protein shakes, and liquids are going down fine and not getting stuck. As of today I haven't gotten hungry at all. I forced myself to have some soup but couldn't even finish 2oz. I'm unsure if I should be worried. I'm hoping I'm just being paranoid

Well today I got my lapband, and thought it would be good to have some support, advice, and learn from the knowledge of those that precede me. The pre-surgery diet wasn't bad and I lost 13 lbs. Concerned about getting my proteins in, especially the first few days. Also, would love any advice for a beginner?

I was scheduled to be banded next week until last night I decided to look at the before and after pics, and gave myself cold feet. I was startled by the number of people posting there that have since (noticed the updates in signatures) had slips, erosions, needed a new band, "upgraded" to the sleeve or RNY, etc. It seemed to me, it was more common than not to have some sort of complication and additional surgery following the initial band for those people that got it in 2004-05. I got so diseartened and scared, I called my doctor and cancelled my surgery today What exactly is the average lifespan of a band? What % of patients are still happy bandsters 5 years dow…

After 7 months of a terrible cough with antibiotics, steroids, and asthma meds not working, I have found out that I have a hiatal hernia; lap band will be removed. Have any of you experienced this? Did your cough go away after the band was removed? What was your pain like after surgery? I am a little nervous, but this cough has got to go.

I don't usually come on forums but don't know where else to go to for help. I'm from the UK and had a lapband placed in January 2012. It's been nothing but a disaster. There was apparently nothing medically wrong with my band but became unable to eat without vomiting to the point of vomiting blood. It was then removed last week. Since then I can eat much better but I'm nowhere near returning to normal. Some denser food still gets stuck and I can only eat small quantities before getting very bloated. Am I likely to be just swollen from surgery or is there more to it than that? There is simply no further support available here and it's not possible to talk to the surgeon un…

Hello, Im new to this board and I am in need of help. I just want to hear others stories who have gone through it so I know Im not alone. I have been having port pain off and on for a couple weeks. I know this can be normal since I have been banded for 8 years. The pain happens when I stand and sometimes get so bad that I can hardly walk. It just last for a couple mins and is then gone. On top of the pain I have now started getting acid reflux which I never had before. I haven't had my band checked in about 4 years because everything has been fine until now. I am concerned of possible erosion. Has anyone else experienced this? If so please share your experience and how ev…

I had the lap band on March 15th 2017. I started off weighting 205. Today i weight 185 a total weight loss of 20 pounds in 4 months. Is this normal shouldn't it be more? I have a 10 cc band and currently have 6.5 cc in it. I been working out 4 to 5 times a week and feel like I'm not losing anything for all the hard work I'm doing... Also i have PCOS and i thought this would help it but no luck yet... I'm thinking i should have got the sleeve... Any thoughts or words of encouragement. Or how's the weight loss for everyone else going at 4 months in?? Please help... Sent from my SM-G935P using BariatricPal mobile app

First off, a short back story as I havent visited this forum in years. I was banded in 2005 and had fantastic success, losing over 100% of my excess weight. I've had some regain since then due to a number of factors but not terrible. In 2010 I was diagnosed with rectal cancer - some of that fabulous weight loss, I believe the last 10kg, was due to having active cancer. I was treated, and am fine, albeit with a colostomy and I had my band totally unfilled (it was NEVER the same again) upon reflilling) I went through a sudden menopause, a brutal one, went back to full time work, stopped being able to focus entirely on myself etc and am now *just* within my healthy weight ra…

Dear all, I went to Manchester to have an unfill, and rather than have a total unfill, the man I met there (I don't whether he would be described as a nurse or medical practitioner) persuaded me to just have a half-unfill, to ease the reflux, but not to totally deflate the band, as, if I decide I need it back again, it will take several fills to get it back up and running. He also thought I would be ill-advised to take the band out after paying to have it put in. I was extremely impressed with the man - very pleasant and professional - and the band adjustment cost £90 and not the £125 charged elsewhere. And they do adjustments for people who were not banded by them in t…

So ... I'm having this problem of being super gassy as of late. Back story, I had my band done on 11/18. All post op appointments have been great and no issues have been discovered ... except that I am in a continual state of needing to belch or pass gas. Now this is recent, the past few days. ... it being 12/21 as I write this post Has anyone else had this happen? I notice that I'm swallowing a little air as I eat my soup (first fill was on 12/19). I thought that could cause a little belching but this is getting comical. Well, hope this little look into my world can either be a fun distraction to your day or a sobering reminder to not slurp your soup. Sent from…

Wednesday I had my lapband filled back up. I recently had fluid removed from being to tight. So Wednesday I got 2.4cc back which is a total of 5cc. I'm eating and drinking fine. No issues at all. But Saturday I woke up with this pain right under my left rib cage. Dull pain but gets pretty intense sometimes. Then it goes to my shoulder as well. But my complaint is under my rib. It's off and on but doesn't go away. I thought maybe it's because I don't go to the bathroom regularly maybe once a week. But I've went and the pain has not went away completely. I've looked up symptoms on google and well I don't want to worry about all the horror stories I see. I thought maybe a st…

I had my band for 4 years. I recently started gaining weight. The surgeon suggested going an un-fill and going for an endoscopy with the results being that I have a dilated pouch. Does anyone that it is absolutely necessary to get it out because of this? He suggested that I get the band removed and get the sleeve. I hate the idea of going for two surgeries and having second thoughts. I am moving with the process and scheduled for the removal on July 5th and sleeve in August 17th. I started at 285 pounds. The lowest weight after the band was 200 and now I am at 240. My husband and family are supporting me going for the surgeries but I think I am totally frighte…
