Sadly, my Dr retired. It took time, but found a new band Dr...... maybe. Has anyone else had to go through another seminar for wt loss after YEARS with your band? I went. Finally appt scheduled. Months later. (After 11 years with my band, I'm comfortable with small adjustments ... ). At last, today I see him for a fill... I thought....He handed me a paper with high protein food list, and scheduled Labs and radiology tests. Sadly. At least another month .... Not wonderful with an emptied band.... I have never had to jump through so many hoops to get a fill...( and not yet). ... wondered how other banders fare with fills at a new Dr? Is this long scheduled waiting a famili…

I had my lap band in Feb /2011 it has been wonderful. How ever I had some band slippage and was deflated. The problem I’m having is this was on January 11, 2018 and since that time I have gained 40 pounds of water weight. I’m not sure what to do my doctor that did my surgery is in Albuquerque NM but I have since moved to Louisiana and the doctor that did the deflation tells me he has no idea why I’m swelling. I have noticed that here they do the other surgeries more then the lap band. I’m wonting to know is this normal and will it go way. I’ve have all kinds of test run and they tell me everything is working fine my ban is in a good location with no problems when the swel…

I have 8.5 cc in a 14 cc band and have been doing protein shakes and soups mainly. I can eat mushy things and noodles. I try to stay away for the carbs though. I don't have much variety right now. I just got filled tight again after regaining like 40 pounds. I seemed to lose weight pretty easily the first time around, but not so much this time. I would over to know what other people are able to eat that are encouraging weight loss. I use Unjury protein. What other protein drinks do you guys like? Thanks in advance for your help.

I've been a vegetarian since 1995; 90% of my meals are vegan, I eat fish 1-2x a year, will eat bread that has milk and eggs in it, and will sometimes eat an egg. Prior to two car accidents I was a body builder and have learned how to get up to 120 g of Protein on a vegetarian diet without using dairy or eggs. I have dozens of vegetarian recipes, resources, and 16 years of experience for anyone interested in vegetarianism. As for being a vegan 100% of the time, I love cheese and just haven't found an ideal goat cheese substitute. There are great regular cheese substitutes for those wondering. So if you would like to talk about being vegetarian maybe this topic will…

Hi all, I had my lap band surgery in Dec of 2011. I lost 75 pounds with only 1 fill. I never needed another fill because I was really content with my weight (although not at goal). Last summer, I started having heartburn for the first time since I got my lap band. I had an EGD and everything was fine. I didn't know my dr wouldn't be able to diagnose a slipped band that way. After my EGD, I noticed all of a sudden that I am always starving! I finally made the trip to my surgeon. He diagnosed me with a slipped band & emptied my band (5cc). I'm supposed to do liquids for a week, mushies for a week, regular diet for a week and then recheck my band. Long story short,…

Hi everyone, I'm at 9 years with my lap band (Realize Band). I'm at 145 down from 250 and have been under 160 for about 5 years. This week, I've had a few episodes where I feel just slightly queezy for several hours then all of a sudden, I find myself having horrible gagging, belching vomit that doesn't produce much other than air. I don't want to rush out to my doctor yet. Any ideas what this is all about?

Coming up to the normal foods stage, i haven’t lost weight whilst I’ve been in the puréed foods stage... I’m actually worried about eating now. How did you find this stage and is there and good advice for max weight loss. I lost 20lbs up to the puréed stage then it’s just stoped and even gone up 2lb which is really disheartening. Thanks

For the past year I have been having my band filled and defilled with fluid. I will have a session of stuck episodes, then episodes of uncontrolled hunger. I don't understand why this is happening. I have had xray tests and sometimes it shows fluid slow to go down and other times it is okay. Has anyone else had this problem with their band? I am looking for clues as to why I am having this grief

I was wondering how many people have had the band removed and the reasons why? How is life now did you experience any problems during or after surgery? What was your cost for the procedure and did Insurance cover it? I am starting the process for my removal but wanted to hear from others about there process and life after removal. I am really nervous about the whole process. I look forward to hearing from you.

I had my lap band placed in 2010. I have lost and gained a lot of weight. Sometimes, no restriction, sometimes with extreme. I also had all my fluid emptied by one Dr because of emergency and then my regular Dr removed 4.5cc and it was yellow. She then added 1.5 for a total of 6cc. I can home in terrible pain ended up returning and when the Dr went to pull all fluid out he was only able to remove 1cc. So where there was 6cc and it was slightly yellow now there is 1cc. I dont understand. I keep having a pulling and pinching on my left side. The radiologist said that the tubing inside was too long and could maybe causing a bend or kink in it. It has also been said that the…

Hi All! I’ve had to take two round trip long haul flights since I’ve had my band and it hasn’t been the most pleasant experience. More than likely, the change in air pressure is impacting the band, which in turn is making my stomach feel incredibly gassy to the point of pain. Do any of you have experience flying with the band? If so, what do you do to minimize impact?

Hi all - So....we all know that the lapband is not PERFECT and is merely a tool in our weight loss journey. I initially lost a good amount of weight and am happy with my overall experience with the band. It does what I need it to do....restrict me from overeating. However, I've reached a plateau. Blah. First let me explain a little....I do not want to go in for a fill to make me tighter. I've never used the band like that, and my doctor doesn't recommend that. Adjusting eating habits is always my first option. I have "ok" restriction which is OK with me! I am able to eat "portioned" meals (i'd say a 4oz piece of meat w/a 4oz veggie side). But if i were any tighter, I wou…

I've had my lap band for 7 years. I've lost 150 pounds, and I'm very happy! About a month ago my band all of a sudden became irritated, doc says probably acid. I had a cc take out and in one month I have gained 15 pounds. I have an appointment Friday to have some put back in. So, I just wanted to update the community. I eventually had the band removed, complications. But losing the initial load, plus low carb high fat and mma, I look like this today. I chose the attachment. I was near 350 at the time of resolution. Granted, I gained a lot back. I'm 185 and was 168. I wish I did better. But I just eat to maintain now. If any of my old bary pals still post, I'd love to see where you are...

I've been banded since 2008 but haven't been adjusted for approx. 7 years or so. Lately, after eating anything even drinking I am getting the sensation that I want to throw up and lots of gurgling and just feeling plain miserable. I also experience reflux at night which I had not in years. Has anyone else experience this and have you been seen for it? If, so what was the cause?

I was banded in 2011. Did okay with weight loss but over the years I put half back but that's still okay because without the lapband I would be 25 lbs higher. I did 2 years ago begin to experience AFIB which is an irregular heartbeat. I need meds to control it as well as a blood thinner. Just wondering if this could be related to the lapband. I know the lapband is near the vagus nerve in the stomach and think it might be interfering with the rhythm of my heart. Has anyone else experienced AFIB after lapband surgery?

I've had my lapband 12 years and about 5 years ago I was getting really bad heartburn, but I was already taking prescription Omeprazole. By accident I found out I have Barrett's Esophagus caused by the lapband. Apparently the tightness of it causes acids to change the lining of your esophagus. Well, I had all the Fluid removed from the band and the heartburn got somewhat better. I had a repeat EGD done this past summer and I still have the Barret's, but it hasnt gotten any worse. My gastro said the lapband has to come out. I havent seen my bariatric doctor in a while but I plan to see him soon. I was wondering if anyone had the band removed because of Barrett's, an…

Hi. I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced vomiting old blood (dark, rust colored)? My other symptoms are: severe constipation, in ability to hold down food or water that only last a few days and then I can eat and drink normally again. When I can't hold anything down I have mild to moderate abdominal pain on the right side. Also, even sipping water causes bile to come up. I have only vomited the blood 4 times in 2 1/2 months. It feels nothing like the sensation of food becoming stuck and feels more like the flu without the other symptoms. None of this makes sense to the surgeon who did my lap band surgery but the general surgeon I've been seeing wants to blame the …

Hi everyone! I'm new here! I had a lap band done about 5 years ago. At first everything was great! The band was working, and I never had any problems with it! I occasionally got stuck, but I was always able to move the blockage by walking and or drinking something. Anyways, about 3 years ago I woke up very ill. I was vomiting pretty badly. Turns out my gallbladder had to go. I had the necessary surgical procedure and it was removed. Ever since then it has been terrible. Since then I've had random stomach aches, acid reflux, and nausea. Through patience, ginger tea, tums, and crackers I was able to deal with it. Then everything got bad. The reflux was bad. I couldn'…

hello. My name is Mia. My lap band was placed in 2011 at 245lbs. and removed 2016 at 135lbs. Had been doing great by prior no blood pressure pills and no thyroid meds. Feeling and looking my best. 2016 my father past away and was under a lot of stress more than just normal in life then i started throwing up blood and was sent to original hospital that did my surgery then sent to another were it was removed. I was told it had to come out but when I got the doctors notes there wasn’t any erosion but rotation so why didn’t. The doctor choose to reposition????? Hi everyone, well I had my lapband removed yesterday and I feel great. The operation went very smoothly and relatively speaking...it doesn’t hurt. When I had it put in I was laid up for 2weeks. I think advances in anesthesia has a lot to do with it. . So glad to be able to eat a fruit, salad, veggies without getting that weird look on my face. First off I’m soooo glad I got the lapband in the first place. The trajectory of my life changed so much for the better. But the band is a tool. We must still put disciplines in to achieve our goals. The reason i had it taken out, a few months ago I had a really bad virus and I think from throwing up my band slipped. So coupled w…

Hello everyone! Here is my lap-band story...I got banded on 8/2014 SW:369, I am now almost 3 years out and weigh 335lbs. Clearly I failed my lap-band. I try not to be hard on myself but its almost impossible not to be. Post-op I had 2 pregnancies (1 of which was a demise) So needless to say my weight was up and down, at my lowest I went down to 312lbs. I recently had a baby boy 12/2016 highest prepartum weight was 345lbs, I came down to 335lbs postpartum, had a fill on 5/3/2017- initially I went down 6lbs and now I'm back up! I am not a victim here..I know my eating habits play a major role. There are days where I am your regular Jillian Michaels and others where I'm eati…

Hello! I've been offline for awhile and wanted to touch base. Today, I went to a consultation with another Dr., didn't realize it would be such an ordeal to find someone willing to take on a patient that already had a band. I lost faith in my former doc and have have a number issues with my band. I'm scheduled to have it removed August 25, 2017, a little over 8 yrs after having it placed. I've suffered with chronic reflux, heartburn, weight gain (20 lbs) and throat pain for the past 2 years and have finally found someone that will listen. The plan... have the band and scar tissue removed in August, 6 months later go back and have bypass surgery. Yep…

Help! I have had my band since 2008... I had 1 total unfill in 2010 due to a possible slip. After 5 or 6 months (I have a 10cc band), my doctor finally refilled my band to 5.5cc the end of dec 2010. My symptoms were, bad heartburn all day and night, vomiting, bad night cough... Well as of 2 weeks ago I have been just fine..I have not had any refills since 2010. Now all of a sudden I only have a night cough, but i notice that I'm eating and going to bed, around 2am I start to cough. I also take nexium for reflux which works for me... Had a fill the week before Thanksgiving and am having troubles. No matter what I eat, (tiny bites and lots of chewing), I have to immediately go throw up. (Sorry to be gross here) But what comes up is not the food. It's a LOT of mucus! It just keeps coming. I don't know if that's an indication that the fill is too tight or if this is normal. It's very thick like slime and then when I think I've gotten it all out, more comes. Anyone else ever experience this? Thanks!

Does the acid reflux get worse over time? I am starting to get empty stomach acid reflux now. Lap band 9 years. Gallbladder removed 3.5 years ago. Last year started having more issues with needing to hurl (sorry!) - checked everything out, no slippage, yes a hernia, some esophagus inflammation - doctor wanted to remove the lap bad because she does soooo many removals and hates them. I refused so she said to increase my protein. I have and hardly have the need to hurl any more. It does happen but not often. I could lose more weight but..I'm scared to do another surgery and worried they won't if I do have the band removed since I'm now 170 at 5'4 (I think that put…

Hello all, I had my lapband placed February 10, 2017 and I weighed in 228 at surgery and now I am 194. I am having a difficult time with the films and being tight. Haven't been on in a while, and hate to be a downer. I used to get on here to motivate and cheer people on. I had my band placed almost 6 years ago. I initially lost 170 pounds in the first year. I had never heard of or been informed that the band could cause cancer! I have no family history, and am only 37 years old. I have had my band inflated and deflated numerous times over the years, but never experienced true esophageal reflux or heartburn. Over the past year, I kept having what I thought were hunger pains in my stomach. I would then eat something and the pain would go away. I never correlated the pain to being an acid issue, as it didn't really come before…
