Hi everyone! Today was my one month checkup and I was supposed to get my first fill. The doctor is rescheduling it for a few more weeks until I eat solid food for awhile. So far, I've lost 35.4 pounds. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get the fill, but I suppose I should wait. I feel that I could overheat if given the opportunity.

HI, I had my band removed yesterday afternoon Monday 22 October 2012. I had my band installed 7 years ago, went from 163KG down to 89, had some reflux related issues and went back to 102Kg. I'm typing this from my hospital bed. Band removal was straightforward ad I'll be released in a few hrs, so only had to stay overnight. In Australia the surgeon won't re-sleeve me till Mid December, after today's visit he will see if there was not much scar tissue removed from around the band, if minimal he will do the Gastric Sleeve Dec 14 otherwise Mid January, I am terrified to keep purring on weight now the band is out. I'll let you know of my progress.

I have been banded for for a year and a half but 9 months of that time I was pregnant. The banded didn't give me any issues while preggo. I kept my 3cc's which the band was placed in with. I got a fill over the summer to 4cc's and nothing passed. I couldn't eat pudding or tuna so I know I was too tight and they took it out. So here Iam with 3cc in my band and I still get food stuck more frequently than I would like. I have 3 kids 4 years and under and maybe I just do t have time to eat correctly. Anyone care to go her the proper rules or eating. I feel like broccoli is a nightmare to get down, as well as potatoes.....I'm sure I'm not too tight.... Maybe I just need a revi…

I went to my PCP today for a check up. We were talking about me being stuck lately. I got a very small fill about .5 3-4 weeks ago. I told her I thought it was my chicken. I told her my protein shake recipe which includes peppermint and she said peppermint can cause this. She used some fancy words and showed me with her fingers what the peppermint can do to you. I also told her I have chocolate mint protein bars and she wants me to stop eating the mint. Anyone else having problems with peppermint?

Has any female used Rogaine? Does it work? Is it difficult to use? I have PCOS and am banded and I have noticed my hair thinning out terribly. I'm desperate but am worried about using Rogaine. Will it make my hair fall out more at first? Any information from ladies who actually use or used Rogaine would be awesome. Thanks.

I've had my 3rd fill, did fine for about 4 days. last night I ate at a friends house and the soup had shredded chicken in it. I did my best to avoid it, but almost twelve hours later I still feel stuck. No vomit, no PB. Just HURTS! How long should I wait before I call the doctors office? Its Sunday right now, so I'd be calling the on call doc. What else could this possibly be?

Any vegetarian or vegan bandsters out there? I'm curious how you get all of your protein in? I have relied a lot on eggs, ground turkey etc. to meet my protein needs, but I'm switching to a more plant based diet and am worried about protein intake. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Well been way to long since i have been on here. It seems life is moving at an amazing speed. This saturday I ran/walked a 5k The plans when i stared it was to just walk it since i had not trained but ended up running at least 1/3 of it. I can not tell you how i felt when i finished it! A new blog has recently been launched for Australian LAP-BAND patients and/or prospective patients. It’s unique as the articles are written exclusively by experienced bariatric healthcare professionals. You can share any article you'd like using social media. The intent of this blog is to give Australian’s accurate and helpful information on gastric banding and weight loss surgery in general. I think the Australian LAP-BAND talk community should be aware of this new blog: http://blog.gastricbandingprocedure.com.au/

Hi, I was banded back in 2009, almost got to goal but then broke my back & neck in a car accident. Hence my band had to be emptied, they couldn't risk me vomiting. Back on my feet again & looking forward to getting back on track. I'm almost back at 100kg, so I'm hoping to get some and give some motivation close by... SO Gold Coast Bandits, how about it? :-S

As I approached my one year mark 10/30 since having the surgery I have had time to think about how my life has changed!! I have been off caffeine for over a year stopped back on October 8, 2012. It was a lot easier then I thought. I went cold turkey after realizing that I was drinking 3-4 large mc Donald's cokes a day, which I still have no idea how much caffeine is in that let alone sugar. I started on oct 30, 2012 weighing 242.5lbs at only 21. I am now 22 and weigh 193.4lbs I am 1.65lbs away from being half way to my goal weight. I couldn't be happier! My mom got her weight loss surgery (bypass) in March 2013 and has hit her half way mark last week! It has been…

Spent the last couple of days reading through posts from here, fb, oh, tt, etc.. Why is it that some people on social media sites are so sensitive about other people's comments? Just some examples: I thought this was a support site, why are you being so mean? I don't like this group because someone was cursing. I was just asking if it was ok to have a cocktail and eat a pizza at 2 weeks out, why is everyone being so negative? I don't mean to be insensitive but this just drives me batty! It's not like we are one big happy family. And if we were, family can say a lot worse things then what I've read on these sites. Ok that's it. Feel better now.

I hear so much talk about how everyone has to follow "The Rules" if you want to be successful... I'm curious what everyone's take on this is...specifically, Do You learn and follow the rules to loose weight? Or Do you learn and follow the rules because that is the only way you can manage to live with the band.... I am also curious what people feel "The Rules" actually are... In my case, it was because following them was / is the only way I can get by day to day with the band....in the beginning, long before I even had the surgery, they started teaching me the "Rules" and telling me then I had to start adhering to them...to be honest, for me, I felt they were sil…

Hello: My band was removed on 7/30 due band being fully eroded into stomach. My appetite is back to where it was when I weighed 325. Please share your experiences with me if you got the sleeve after being banded. Things I'd like to know are: Is it hard to get insurance approval? What are the requirements for BCBS and HCHP? What are the pre-op requirements? Is it a difficult surgery? How many days in hospital after being sleeved? And, most importantly, are you glad you are sleeved? I can't seem to get new lines when typing here, apologize for the format of my questions. I look forward to hearing back from you. I was very successful with first band in 2007. No…

If you are on the fence about having the surgery....just do it! I debated it myself and wish I had done it much sooner than I did. Life is going to keep on going regardless of what you do today. I just found out someone my age (35ish) has been diagnosed with Cancer and it's breaking my heart. Life is short. Yes there is a risk of complications with any weight loss surgery, but you can also get hit by a bus in five years. Sorry this topic is so cryptic I'm just in a really emotional state this week and am reminded of how fragile life is and how happy I am that I took the risk because when it's your time, it's your time. Happy November my friends. There is much to be T…

I need this surgery so bad but everytime I want to start the process, something messes up with my insurance. Back in 2010, I had reached my heaviest of 248. I went down a bad road to drop the weight and when i got down to 232 within 2 months, i found out I was pregnant. When I gave birth I was 235 & then dropped down to 212. Ever since then my weight had yoyod between the 220s to230s. I was able to mantain a weight of 218 for a while when I decided on the surgery. I realized my bmi wasnt high enough since i had no comorbidities. So i gained weight. Im spiraling downward. I left my bf of 6 years due to constant verbal and emotionsl abuse. So I had my first fill yesterday and all went well. I feel some restriction but its nit tight. I told the doctor I do not want to be tight. It took ten minutes tops! I went in and they had me fill in a few questions about n how I was feeling and how much I can eat . They discussed my concerns and desires and took my weight. Then he had me lie on the fluoroscopy table which has a small round X-ray head that is stomach sized. He quickly located my port and told me I would feel a slight pinch (. No big deal ). And put a small needle into my port . The syring had saline in it he put in 3 Cc's and had me drink a thin oink flavorless liquid then he watched the …

As anyone skipped their first fill? Mine is scheduled in a week but I'm still eating less than 1,000 calories a day. I'll eat 1/2 - 1 cup of mushies and I'm full for 4-5 hours. I've even gotten stuck (just for a minute or two) from too big of a bite of Greek Yogurt, blended chili, refried beans or Cottage cheese. I'm two weeks out from surgery now and have been on mushies for the last week per my surgeons schedule. Thanks for any advice!

When I read a post by jfc193 part of his personal message really spoke to me. He says he "recommitted" at 250. That is something I need to do. I lost 55 pounds in the six months after surgery (May 21, 2012) and have not lost another ounce! I've gained and lost the same 2 or 3 pounds but have been pretty much on a plateau for a year. I know I'm failing my band (from Missy's recent thread) with poor food choices and eating too quickly and continuing to eat after feeling full and I've not exercised (excuses include hurting foot, leg pain, etc.) but I need some way to kick my butt back into gear. I'd like to ask Joe, "How did you go about recommitting?" I'd appreciate …

My lapband is scheduled 12/6/13. I'm aware of the pre-surgery diet. What do you consume post-surgery. Obviously eating as usual is not an option. My main concerns are what foods can be eaten that are good for you and pass through ok? I've been diagnosed as non diabetic hypoglycemia. Thus my weight issue. Sugar drops and I grab and eat. I do not eat fish, seafood, steak. How long to recover (my surgery is on a Friday, have the weekend and can take off Mon-Wednesday if needed)? I go to Zumba twice a week. How long until I can resume and exercise?

Any ideas on how to get out of this stupid plateau? I've been stuck at the same weight for the last 1.5 months - though I know muscle weighs more than fat, I would still think I would have seen weight change. I'm watching my Protein, my carbs, my fats and their all healthy carbs and fats and lean protein I work out 13-14 hours a week (yes, I'm a bit of a gym rat...) so I don't really know what else I can do, since adding more cardio is not an option because I work out PLENTY any help/ideas would be wonderful. I was hoping to get to 100lb weight loss by my 1 year, but that isn't going to happen seeing how I'm only 5 days from that.

How do you stop this incessant snacking!?!? I'm not hungry but I keep going for Snacks here and there. It's hurting my weight loss for sure. I can't get below 225lbs and have been stuck here for over a 2 months. So, do any of you have some little tricks you used to get away from the snacking? I have great restriction right on and don't get hungry for 5 hours even without snacks. When I'm busy, take that as not bored, I can do this. But boredom goes all too well with snacks for me. Thanks, John

Hi, I'm having trouble getting all the Protein in. My NUT and surgeon recommend 80-90 grams per day. I'm not a big meat eater at all. I don't eat steak, pork chops, or even a chicken breast. I can eat a small amount of shredded chicken or ground beef, or canned tuna...but that's getting old quick. I still haven't found a Protein shake that I like either. So I would really appreciate some suggestions of how I get boost up my protein intake without feeling like I'm eating a whole animal. Thank you!

Hi all, I am new to this site. I have been having some problems and decided to see if there was a community out there with similar issues. I got my band done 2 weeks ago. I did liquids the first week and was then moved to pureed foods. For the past few days i have been sick to my stomach almost constantly. I can't get in what I need because the sight, smell and thought of the food I need to eat makes me want to vomit. Though I never actually throw up, I have the constant feeling and lump in my throat like I'm going to. Protein shakes are basically out of the question (at least the ones I have), it's the same with the food, it makes me sick. It's so hard to eat. I have l…

Hello everyone. I was filled two weeks ago (my fourth fill). I couldn't drink liquids so I went for a slight unfill two days later. On that day, Iwas able to drink a bottle of water with no problems when I left the doctor's office. However, since then (October 17), it has been very difficult for me to eat anything without having pain. I slimmed yesterday for the first time. I called my doctor today because I was tired of the pain and worried that I'm not feeling better when trying to eat and he wants to see me tomorrow. He is sending me for an X-ray. Now, I'm so afraid of what could be wrong.

Went for a fill yesterday and did fluro.... My esophagus just above my band is stretched a little!!! They say it's fixable because it's not too bad right now... I'm so angry at myself for letting this happen.... They said either laying down after eating, not chewing well enough or overeating is what's caused it! I need to fix this... Any ideas or suggestions??? True results isn't very helpful, they just tell me what wrong but don't really offer suggestions. Help!!! Please!! I'm new to this only 9 months post op so yes I have a lot to learn, so please don't be so harsh and negative on me, we all make mistakes! I can say I'm guilty of laying down after eating, so that I wil…
