Hey Everyone. I have my lap band surgery set for January 22. I have all my checks set up for this month so hopefully all will go smooth and Jan 22 will be the day my life is forever changed. I'll be 29 in January and am so ready for this. I have struggled with my weight my WHOLE life. I remember being on diets starting at age 6. Ive also struggled with an eating disorder for 11 years. It's been a constant battle. I don't want food to control my life anymore. I want to be healthy and happy for my husband and two children. I know that this next chapter won't be easy and I welcome the challenge with open arms. I'm looking for people to go through this journey with. Whose …

Hello all, I hope I am able to share your experiences to help others with their missions! I am a lifestyle consultant specialising in nutrition, supplementation and exercise. I have a patient who's undertaking a very structured training regime under my supervision. He's 37, VERY fit and has managed to loose lots of weight and is now in the process of a complete transformation, however, every 6 weeks or so, he falls ill and is out of action for about a week. General flu like symptoms. It would seem as though his immune system is compromised. Without going into too much detail regarding his supplement regime to ensure that his intestinal flora are optimal, D3 level…

Looking for support from long time banded. I was banded in 2007. As with everyone I have had ups and downs. Overall happy since I was able to stop my weight gain but haven't had the large weigh loss. I am 230 , was 260, want to be 180. I eat lots of small meals can't eat any more than about a cup of anything but like I said, lots of small meals. Had slippage a few months ago so was unfilled and let the band settle. Band ended up ok so was refilled. I guess I'm looking for words of encouragement and support. I find once I get pounds off they stay off, am considering opti fast to get weight down. Any advice out there?

Sitting here at Panera for lunch.....I ordered a cup of soup and 1/2 tuna sandwich....that I eat minus the bread. I have eaten since my breakfast smoothie at 5am..... I had a taste of the soup and tuna, and I cannot continue...I have no appetite, and I simply do not want, or feel like eating anything....I'm gonna throw the whole thing out.... I have days like this...it is the band...I have no hunger at all, and no interest in food....the brand is telling my brain I am full, and do not have to eat...it's mental, not physical.... So I will wait till dinner to eat....but we'll see what and how much..

Haven't been regular since my banding. My doctor recommended Milk of Mag as needed ... but I would rather move everyday, rather than resort to a super laxative when I have to. Any suggestions out there? All this protein protein protein makes some unhappy guts.

Hi guys, I hope everyone had a great holiday! I had 5 days off, thanksgiving, 2 birthdays, a company party, a friday night out with friends with alcohol, and an episode with a party size bag of peanut M&Ms over the past 10 days. I also didn't exercise or track my food, Protein or Water. I've gained 3 lbs!! I'm not sure what came over me but I think I lost my mind! It just still seems like so much work...I just wanted to relax and enjoy my time off. However, the m&ms were me stressing over not doing anything right. I realize that now... So today, I am back on track but feeling like crap for what I've done. Any words of wisdom??

IM off track! I can't seem to get out this funk! Is this normal or do I need a kick in the butt? I think I need a kick but I'm just off track. I'm not losing weight at all! I'm stuck at 199 which is a 5 pound gain from surgery. I do not have fluid in my band yet but I'm 1 month post op. What are some of you eating to burn. I'm not a breakfast person. I'm not a fan of sweet breakfast like oatmeal so what do I eat? Help! Someone grab me and slap me back to reality. I'm out of control!

Do you eat celery since being banded? I don't like raw celery by itself but I love to chop it up and put it in things like soups, chicken salad, tuna salad, cornbread dressing(which I only eat on holidays). I know the lapband book mentions it as being a potential problem food so I was wondering if I will need to avoid it? Or is it ok as long as it's finely chopped?

After not having insurance that covers the band for a year I finally got insurance that includes bariatrics. I knew I had gained weight but sad reality was it was 40 pounds. Ouch I know. Though please note I do 60 minutes of moderate/intense cardio 7 days a week. At the end of my appointment the nurse pulled out 7 CC's when there should have been 11 CC's. She sent me for an upper GI and the doctor said there was no where near 11 CC's in there (per nurse some saline could be in the tube). The Barium just flowed right through with no restriction. Went for an Endoscopy no erosion. Had a fill under fluroscopy and there is no leak in the port or tube. Doctor did see …

Today was my first fill and I was a little suprised by my nurses reaction to the amount of saline they put in. I have been doing very well with my caloric intake and have not been feeling hungry but I received a 3cc fill today. I am feeling somewhat nauseated and my chest is tight. I am hoping this will pass as the day goes on. I was just taken a back by the nurses comments . She said "I thought you had some restriction, I am surpised at how much of a fill you needed.

I have never had a great immune system. I am always susceptible to the ills of those around me. They cough, sneeze and are better, and me I'm sick for a month! No joke. It seems that no matter what I do I cannot keep myself healthy enough to accomplish the things I strive toward. Since I have had surgery this is the 4th time I have had a horrible upper respiratory infection and bronchitis. It wears me down, exhausts me and if I even think of over exerting myself to go to the gym once I can breathe even a little better, it comes right back again with a vengeance or the next new BUG that’s going around grabs on for the ride and I'm twice as sick. I’ve been taking my mu…

Like many banders, in the mornings my band is tighter than a "bull's ass at fly time", and I start the day with a protein/fruit/vegetable. Trouble is, that can often be time consuming and messy as I am trying to get out the door to work. I have been trying different things to speed the process up, but haven't been exceptionally happy until this morning. Last night I blended a big batch of strawberries, spinach and Chobani zero fat vanilla yogurt in my ninja and then dumped it into my cusiinart ice-cream maker and then put the resulting green mixture into a tub in the freezer. This morning when I went to make my smoothie, I simply scooped out some green ice cream into my n…

Hi all, I was banded in June 13, after my surgery in the first few weeks I lost around 2stone but since then nothing! In august time I was prescribed aunti depressants as I got so low that I physically couldn't be around anyone other than my close family. If I was around anyone other than basically my partner and about 4 other people I found myself self harming but not being aware I was doing so. I'm now still on the tablets but finding I can now start to leave the house without the worry or stress I have been getting but still feel slight anxiety. I'm now 8mls in my 10ml band but I don't feel as though it's working for me or maybe I'm not working for it? I have trouble e…

I went in for a fill today and everything was fine all day.... A little while ago I had something (can't remember what) and got this weird sensation in the middle of my chest (kinda between my b@@s) Just now, I took 1/2 of a sleeping pill with some cold tea and I feel the same sensation. It's like a burning sensation... But not of "fire", its more like what you feel when you eat a York Peppermint patty. Has anyone felt this after a fill? There's no pain, and it doesn't really bother that much. It's just WEIRD.

Banded October 30 and had my first fill yesterday 11/26. Arrived at the office and weighed in with vitals. Escorted to the sonogram room where the nurse got a good look at my port, she mentioned they only sonogram on the first fill visit and notate the depth of the port in the chart. She also numbed the area with lidocane ... and itty bitty pinch. The doctor came in and explained the process of the fill to me, happy with my progress. He felt the port under my skin, had me do a crunch hold position and placed the needle in the port, BTW didn't feel a thing. He drew what was in my band into the syringe that already had my scheduled fill inside, checking for leaks, and refil…

Morning everyone. I'm finally seeing the swelling start to go down on my hips...especially on the right side. The softball sized lump is now more like a tennis ball and I dropped seven pounds this week....which obviously is Water. I even think I'm going to try to get into the office later this week. I really miss my coworkers and I think it will help me emotionally to get back to a more normal schedule. Speaking of which.....I've also got something else on my mind and would like some feedback regarding emotions. I've mentioned lately that I feel very off kilter between the hip replacements and the enormous changes to my body from the weight loss. I actually suffer…

Happy Thanksgiving everybody. I've noticed that every year I make a new years resolution that I don't keep, but I give myself a whole year to do it and then by February I don't even remember making one or what it was. This year I've decided to do it differently. I'm making mine on Thanksgiving. The best part of this is we have slightly over a month to achieve it and we should be able to do that standing on our heads. The 2nd best part is it will get us through the holidays. Join me here. Make them things that are realistic and rewarding. I'll start: 1. I'm going to make sure I drink 80 oz of Water per day. This will be in addition to any tea, coffee, crystal l…

Something I noticed over the years..... When people say they have lost 100 lbs, or some other great weight loss within a relatively short amount of time,.... as great as that is,..... newly banded people should not feel discouraged.....what many of these people do not say is what there starting weight was.... I have observed, that the heavier a person is, the more they will loose....at least in the beginning....sooner or later the Honeymoon is over and then the playing field is leveled, so to speak.....(not always, just me generalization) Someone who starts out 300 lbs plus.... and looses a tremendous amount of weight early on , is no different than someone with a co…

Hello all my fellow bandsters! I am just about 6 weeks out from my LB surgery and I get my first fill Monday - I've been very good following the rules from the surgeon and nutritionist but I'm looking for a meal program to take the guess work out and give me more structure. In the past, I did really well on Jenny Craig for this exact reason - everything I was supposed to eat was written out for me and it worked - is there any such book out there that gives you a month menu of Breakfast, lunch & dinner that are band safe and spelled out? I've primarily been eating eggs for breakfast, turkey lettuce wraps with hummus for lunch and fish for dinner. If I get hung…

So here I am six months after lapband surgery and “only” down about 25 lbs. I know it's alot on the scale of life but not where I want to be. Most of the loss was in the first weeks after surgery when I was on liquids. I have lost about 7 lbs in the past 3 months, I am getting discouraged and need a swift kick in the butt and looking to the forum for it. My brain knows the band is just a tool and it’s up to me to pick the right food choices which I do 99% of the time. Have I had a cookie, a bowl of ice cream or French fries in the last half year? Yes, did I overdo it, No. I am eating grapefruit and cottage cheese for Breakfast as I type this, my lunch will be a sal…

how is everyone doing now? I personally cannot eat sooo many foods! No ground meats, no beans, no celery, no roasted meats either! I am officially known in my family as the soup nazi! Lately, no yogurts either. I have not had a fill for 9 months. My previous fill of .6 cc was removed., then had another fill 4 months after removal. That was 9 months ago. I seem to be able to eat a lot of bad things tho. As popcorn, mashed potatoes and cookies! I am within 12 pounds of my goal weight but no weight loss for one year. If I try to eat meat it gets stuck. Always. I know for health reasons weight loss is good. But....was this a good decision? Will it always be like t…

I've seen so many posts recently about folks so very worried about the upcoming holidays and how they will be able to manage with the band. Maybe I'm a little off kilter still from my hip replacement surgery but I am so so friggin' excited about Thanksgiving this year. I couldn't care less about how much less I can eat....because I'm thrilled at how much less I can eat. I mean it. Think about it folks....it's what we've all been looking for. We just don't know how to think about it the right way yet. Stop mourning the 'old' way of eating....it's what made us fat and miserable in the first place. Really....embrace the new you, and the new way of eating because it's …

I won't live my life on liquids for the sake of losing faster. THERE, I SAID IT! I get that out of the way because I know there could be people who might think I want to lose the unhealthy way. My fill today was aggressive.... So much so, that I couldn't tolerate water- By the time I realized I was indeed TOO TIGHT, and by the time I gained my "composure" enough to come out of the bathroom, I was in real bad shape. I went back in and had 1cc taken out. He unfilled me pretty quickly and I felt immediate relieve. It was kinda cool. After the unfill, I was able to take sips of Water (but was a little afraid) going home I decided to get some coffee because I read here how wa…

I haven't had a large loss post surgery....only about 4 lbs in two months. I'm wondering if anyone else has started off losing slow but was still successful in the long run. I have about 150 lbs to go to reach my goal, after losing 54 lbs during the presurgery withing period. I'm two weeks into my first fill, and i don't weigh again until my next fill on June 14. I'm losing inches just not pounds. Appreciate your advice!
