Hi, My name is Faye. I started my journey in August 2012. I am 34 and have been, what doctors call morbidly obese, most of my life. My surgery date has been tentatively scheduled for 21 may. I'm nervous about not knowing what to eat, eating the wrong thing, and then suffering from post op symptoms like ulcers, kidney stones, etc. I've lost 32lbs on my pre-op journey and while I'm excited about progress, I know that this surgery is just a tool to changing my life and living a healthy life. Thanks in advance for your support and advice. Faye

Hello everyone, Im not sure how to do this. My daughter is now 21 years old. She had the Gastric Sleeve on March 5. She is throwing up all of the time. She has not progressed from clear to full because she can barely keep down the clear liquids. when I talk to her she is very lethargic and answers my questions very slowly and sometimes I have to repeat myself. Her surgeon and nurse are being dismissive. My mother is a nurse and knows nothing about this surgery but she told me that health providers will sometimes have the mentality that a person is a hypochondriac if they contact them to often but my daughter just had major surgery. I don't understand. My daughter lives 1…

I'm very excited yet nervous but I guess that's normal. Praying for no complications and a smooth easy recovery I look forward to chatting with everybody. I've been doing my research on the sleeve for a long time now but this place is such a great place to network and meet people and have experienced or are going through similar things that we all are going through.

How to deal with others eating around you? It's been a hard road and I'm just stating. I understand that everyone else will be hungry but that didn't help. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Specially for the next 3 to 4 weeks?

So very excited, yet concerned that I won't be strong enough to handle the temptations and concerns. I've known a few people who had the bypass or the sleeve who didn't follow the "rules" and while they did lose weight, they are not healthy or trying to control their portions or content. I guess they took the easy road. I know that I need to do this right. I've waited too long to not give this my all. Does anyone have any input on how to face these temptations head on? Thanks!

I am 10 days post op, drinking more than 90 grams of protein (but only getting about 500 calories). I have ZERO energy. It takes everything I have just to take a shower. I am still quite sore at incision sites, but glad the staples were taken out today. Anyone have ideas on how to decrease the fatigue I'm feeling? I start vitamins and pureed foods on tuesday... hopefully that will help?

So it's been just over 3 weeks since my sleeve, and tomorrow I start back at work ... Mixed feelings about that, on one hand I enjoy my job for the most part , on the other hand it's work and I would so rather stay home lol I went out today and brought some new tops and underwear , not to many though just kind of transition ones for a while anyway And my wonderful husband brought me a new handbag to start work with it's this lovely black leather one and cost $239 !!!! I couldn't believe it when he said I could get it I'm so spoiled I love him I am struggling with food at the moment, every time I eat I feel sick and over full even if I am only getting 2 bites in I…

This optifast thing has really been a struggle. For some reason I cannot seem to get out of my head. I have never realized how much food is put in our faces. Every other commercial, driving down the road, outings and such. It seems everything had food as some component.

Hi Everyone. Yesterday was Day 1 of my pre-op diet. I am scheduled for surgery on May 5th. I woke up thinking this is really Day 1 of a "healthy" and "happy" rest of my life. I looked like a bag lady as I left for work... carrying everything that I would need for the day - my blender, high protein slim fast, measuring cups, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, decaf tea, splenda, skim milk and broth. Needless to say I was well prepared and I think I did quite well. I won't lie, I was hungry but I made it through. I am trying to keep my spirits up and I have the confidence that I can survive until my surgery. I pray that everyone else who may be thinking about the surge…

This had been a very good week. Besides fatigue I only had 1 challenge...hunger! I have now advanced to pureed Soups and it holds me over for a little while but I still feel like I need more to eat. I've added more Protein shakes to my daily menu so hopefully that will help. Thank you for all of the well wishes everyone and helping me push through. Looking forward to soft foods next week.

I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op and I am so tired of soup, jello, applesauce and yogurt. What was everyone else eating at 2 1/2 weeks? Anyone further advanced in your diet at that point in your recovery? I am only getting about 600 calories per day.

I can almost feel gas bubbles come up at the same time. Happens less when I'm drinking but also happens. I am on puréed foods. I feel great the rest if the time. Anyone else feel this? So yesterday I took my daughter to the movies, we stopped at chipotle before we went. Just the smell make me wanna droll, she even asked if I was gonna eat. I told her no, and had a protein shake. Today at work, I have a heavy Co worker, she noticed that I don't eat anything like her, she is always speaking about how she is about to "start working out" and "juicing" blah blah. Needless to say haven't seen her do anything. She is really big on talking a good game. Well I truly believe that she has noticed a huge difference in my eating habits (I am a week and a half post op) and 40 lbs down so far. She has yet to conpliment me..... not that im waiting for one. she alway…

Hello again all. I have been extremely frustrated with my weight loss. I had my surgery on Feb 5 2014 so I am a little over 2 months po. The first month from the time the Dr recorded my weight until he seen me 1 month po I dropped 34 lbs. I was ecstatic. When I went in for my 2 month check I only lost 7 lbs taking me down to 226. That was on April 7. Since then I have dropped 8 lbs in the last 2 weeks. I work out at least 5 days a week doing 45 mins on my elliptical and then lifting 10 lb weights on top of it to get my arms in shape hoping some of the skin will stretch back. I eat healthy getting 60 grams of protein daily and plenty of water though sometimes I may be a fe…

Hey everyone:) my surgery was approved by my insurance really fast (consultation was in mid march and I had my surgery Wednesday, April 23rd. I spent 2 nights in the hospital and I am at home in my recliner relaxing on the pain meds. My pre op diet was 10 days of liquids and 3 protein shakes a day. I was MISERABLE!! I cheated on day 6 and then threw a little gym time in my pre op diet for the last 4 days. I was in the OR by 11 and 2 hours later I was in recovery 1 and moved to recovery 2 as soon as I was responding to wait for my room. I am not going to lie and say this isn't painful, because it is but my high appetite and food cravings were always my issues and I am amaz…

Today I feel a lot better. I am on day 4 since my sleeve and it does get better. I haven't weight myself yet I will be doing so at one week. Overall my incisions are healing nicely. They do feel sore at times specially when I move. I'm taking this journey one day at a time. I have been feeling Bit of pressure around between my chest area. Does anyone have the same thing? Is it normal? It usually happens after I drink. Hope everyone is doing well.

Like I said I'm 4 1/2 weeks post op. I lost 27 lbs the first month, but now my weight hasn't moved at all this past week. I am following the doctors orders, drinking my fluids and I do spin class 3 days a week. Anyone have any ideas of why I would stall out so quickly? It's a little frustrating Thanks!

I am 1 month post op. Its amazing how this process works. I have lost 30 lbs, which far exceeds my 1st month goals. I know the numbers wont be as big going forward but its a great jump start. This decision I made has been a true blessing. My doc has cleared me to pic up my workout intensity. My goal is 15lbs this month. HW 360 SW 350 CW 320

I am still on a full liqued diet of 800-1000 cal and 80-100 grams of Protein for 2 more weeks then one week of pureed foods then one week of soft foods and just as I get regular foods, they will do my first fill, so back on to full liqued for another week.I have lost almost 19 pounds since getting the band a little over a pound a day. BUT I am also going to the gym and doing stairclimber and tread mill at least 5 days a week I am averageing 10k aday in all. I came home from work today and decided to count out how many more days I have to go to work and wear these same clothes that I am sick of. My sleeve is in July, so I have 58 actual working days left. If I have 15 outfits (that fit) then I only have to wear each one about 4 more times before they are DONE! NICE! OF COURSE all bets are off if I continue with these endless food funerals I'm having and gain weight. Maybe THIS is the calculation I should really be making: 12 more weeks X 1 OR X 2 pounds per week and I could easily be up 12 or 24 pounds!!!!! Can you imagine?!?!? OMG!!! Help. What IS up with the food?? Anyone else want to share thoughts going thro…

hey all- I have been a pretty regular poster over on the RNY boards because for the past several months I was under the impression that VSG wouldn't be an option for me due to GERD. When I originally explored WLS I wanted VSG but after going to support group meetings and seeing a nurse practitioner (who wasn't really too familiar with my history), I was told that likely my option was RNY... I saw the surgeon for the second and final time today and he told me that he thinks I am a GREAT candidate for VSG!!! WHOOP!!!! I am super excited. I'm happy that my journey is happening like I wanted it to, and that I don't have to accept something else. I am completely through my…

Hello everyone. My name is Michelle and this is my first post on here. I am really excited to get to meet some other people to share my thoughts as I go through this life long journey. If everything goes as planned I will be having gastric bypass surgery in October. It seems like such a long time away but I know it will be here before I know it. My surgeon is Robert Richard of Gainesville GA. I am currently going on my 3rd nutritional visit out of 6, for my insurance company. I have already seen the psychologist and he cleared me. He said I was pleasant and that I had a clear grasp of everything that was expected before and after the surgery. I am looking for a friend t…

I swear it had to have been written for all of us going through this life changing journey & for our transformations!!! It is a must to listen to it!!! Tell me your thoughts on this song!!! I think it should become the theme song for WLS patients!!! Lol!!! I was trying to copy the link here but since I am on my phone it won't let me but please be sure to give it a listen , it is so uplifting & inspirational, at least to me!!!

I honestly can't remember when the last time was that I weighed under 330.. This is the absolute best thing in the world.. I have had a hard time getting in my Protein and Water.. I'm on day 8 of my Pre Op liquid diet and I come hme from work to find the kitchen table covered in pie! Savory pies, sweet pies... You name it and it's on the table(of course I'm exaggerating, but there is an awful lot of pie on that table)! I am STARVING and this is what my family decides to eat for dinner? Seriously?? It's been well over a year since we've been to this pie place, but today is the day my family MUST have pie for dinner. Wow, thanks for the support. I don't expect them to change their eating habits because of me, but this just fees a tad insensitive. Thanks for letting me vent.
