Still in the beginning stages of thinking about this surgery. I'm 390lbs, and I am terrified of MRI machines. Do you need to have an MRI to get this surgery?

Hi there i have my sleeve surgery booked for the 24th july in the czech republic, i qualify as i am at the mo 200lbs with a BMI of 37 All was going well until this morning. I have recently been taking multi vitamin tablets i also suffer quite badly from IBS and cronic constipation. I actually let the hospital know this initially but for some reason it wasnt put down on the medical form. So today when i spoke to them i asked them if i was still ok taking my existing meds ie Buscopan for IBS and also senna or ducolax or Movicol which i take for the constipation. They are now saying this may effect the surgery and i have to wait for them to get back to …

  3. I started this journey 5/9/17 after years of denial. This year I made the realistic decision to walk in the Dr. Office asking for help with now a possible death sentence. After the traumatic fire lost after a new marriage, I realized that I could have dead in the fire. I am expecting a longer healthy life. My son got married this year and couldn't imagine not being able to enjoy my grandkids. I'm excited about my NEW BEGINNING! My Dr. Office scheduled my surgery before approval so I am not on pre op diet. My clearance came to my husband phone while in the chest xray ? what is the required days of pre op diet? Greetings to ALL!

  4. This liquid only diet sucks, lol. I mean im ready to get healthy and make the life change and eliminate the bad food but this is awful. The protein shakes taste and smell like crap lol. The fact that I have to do this for 14 days is killing me. What happens if you cheat one day and had some grilled chicken?

I have a question. I currently live in NC but my insurance BCBS is not and in the beginning my Dr. office wasn't sure of the requirements. I met with the Nutritionist twice and they sent the info to my insurance but I received a message that Medi-Weight loss is not considered part of my 6 month requirements. I called bsbc and the nurse didn't state medi is not considered weight management. My question is has anyone else used them because I was under a physician assistant and my insurance considered them part of weight management. My options are to have 4 more visits with the Nutritionists or take my chances and they send to the insurance for a possible denial. If denied I…

I've come to realize that all of the different diets and different exercise programs, Ifailed cause of me and no one else. I take responsibility for that. I have BCBS-IL and received the approval letter on Thursday the 5th. On Friday the 6th, I drove over theSurgeon's office and hand delivered the letter. Unfortunately, their computer system was down and the individual who schedules the surgeries was off. Needless to say, was a lil disappointed. So, I've been trying to lose weight for years and it was always a rollercoaster for me. So now that I've been taking it serious I'm over 45 lbs down since December !! Yay me! I'm now month 5 into my 6th month preop period and I think despite my food I've done pretty damn good. I weigh in with my dietician tomorrow so I'm pretty nervous to see how much I've lost. I didn't start to see a surgeon until February, so August is my last appointment. I think the thing I'm more anxious to see change is my dating life after I drop a ton of weight. Im pretty confident but in the back of my mind I'm like I'm still the fat girl that you're ashamed of. And that's an insecurity in…

I am a month post op and I cannot find food that I want to eat so I don't eat. I am tired of tuna chicken salmon so I just either have a protein chips, cookie, shake, or just liquids (like water, Powerade zero) chicken/vegetable broth, applesauce, sugar free jello, I even tried a pack of crackers, and tried a lunchable, & some watermelon NOTHING!!! Is satisfying me I mean I just don't want to eat wrong should I say.. so I guess my question is how did you guys eat a month post op(gastric bypass) I have lost 20 pounds this month and just trying to continue but as stated before don't want to take in nothing bad.

So I spoke to my surgeon last week and he told me to just continue on my low carb, high protein diet leading up to my sleeve surgery this Tuesday, July 11th. The Hospital told me to not eat anything after midnight the day of surgery but that's it. I'm kind of shocked because everyone seems to be on a special pre-op diet prior to surgery. I have lost nearly 80 pounds in 6 months since I started the process so my thought was perhaps this is the reason why he's not altering my diet prior to surgery. Also my surgeon did confirm I'll have a catheter for the surgery. As a male, I'm so not looking forward to that! Anyways anyone out there not been asked to be on special pre…

I've just been in for my pre-admission screening (ECG, bloods etc) and as a result my surgeon, who called me at 8pm, has decided to postpone my operation. It seems I have high blood pressure (I never have before, but then I've put on a lot of weight recently) and that combined with a couple of other risk factors has made them a little nervous. The nerves come, partly, from my surgeon's usual anaesthetist (who is an internationally renowned specialist on anaesthetics and obesity) who is on holiday. So I now have three weeks to go before the Op, and have been put on medication to reduce my blood pressure. I have mixed feelings. I feel less anxious knowing I…

I just got my approval letter, planning on undergoing VSG the end of August. I have a relatively low key job but don't want to take too much time off. Planning on taking 1 week off. I'm young, have a high pain tolerance, but also know when to not overdo it. Is that long enough?? Also, I am very private and don't want to tell everyone at work why I'm needing surgery. I'm sure they will figure it out eventually but I want to keep it to myself. I'm sure I'm not the only one on here that feels this way. How did you guys address this concern and keep your business private?

My wife and I like to hike frequently during hiking season, but my concern is that since so many calories are burned on longer elevation gain hikes is that it could possibly be hard to eat enough to keep my calorie intake at the correct level. I am also concerned about drinking water while on the trail, I have read that drinking too much water can cause diarrhea, and on being on the trail that sounds like a less than fun time! It is not head hunger, it's actually stomach growling hunger, lol... I usually eat an egg for morning with some light cheese, for lunch I will eat tuna, or some salad with grilled chicken. I always eat my protein first. For dinner I will eat a meat, and veggies. Tonight I had lean ground round patty I was able to eat over half of it, and 1/4 cup of vegetables. Isn't that too much? Is or has anyone else experienced this? I need to do this. I have come so far... Also, has anyone else had a problem because of large tonsils? Iam worried about them trying to get that thing down my throat during surgery. I had arthroscopic surgery for my knee and when I woke up, I couldn't swallow, breath or speak. It really scared me. They must of just crammed that thing down my throat. That's what it felt like... Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

I am just curious how much of a life style change is it having the sleeve. what has steered me away from doing this in the past is basically seeing my friend in constant turmoil from the lapband. Started my Ketosis Pre-op diet yesterday, today I've noticed I'm PMS'n and have horrible cravings. I started my own version of the preop diet 3 weeks ago and have lost 15lbs so far (1 protein shake + 1 meal (4oz meat, 1/2c rice, 1c veggies) the actual pre op diet is strict on No carbs & protein. I only get to drink 4 shakes a day and have 4oz chicken with 1cuo non starchy veggies + 2tbs fat. Hence why I'm literally going nuts with these pms cravings. Any tips or food suggestions I could possibly eat without breaking my preop diet? #sendhelp #day2of14 HW: 251 -1/25/17 CW: 238 -6/27/2017 GW: 140 Tentative surgery date: 7/19/17

I have empire BCBS insurance and this is one of the requirements "The individual must have serially documented active participation in a non-surgical weight reduction regimen for at least 6 continuous months, in the 2 years prior to surgery, to enable both behavioral changes and adequate assessment of anticipated postoperative dietary maintenance. I have asked him flat out and he can't give me an answer, once he said that if I do it we may not go out to eat ever again... every time I say something about the surgery he gets really serious and doesn't even answer if I'm asking him a question, he changes the subject. I am not telling that many people about the surgery so it's very hard not to have his full support. Any ideas? Comments? Suggestions? Anybody went through the same thing? Thank you!

What happens to the gut biome as we recover? Don't they need fiber or probiotics to stay alive (and help us)? Is there a way to avoid total die off of our good bugs? Ex. Adding 1/8 tsp of a fiber powder like inulin to a bit of our water? Or how long can they go hungry and not hurt us physically and psychologically?
