Hi, all! My appointment with the psychologist is tomorrow, and I am so nervous it's unreal! I'm so close to being finished with everything required for surgery, and I hope I don't ruin it with this. I don't know what to expect. She said to plan on being there around 3 hours. What all do they do In THREE HOURS!? I imagine a huge interrogation where they try to trip you up and say you can't handle surgery. Lol! Nah, I know better, but what can I expect?? Please help calm me!

Hello, So, I'm almost to the end of these horribly pedantic medical weight loss classes, I have my psych clearance and my final appointment with my primary care provider set up for the day after my last class and so far, I've either checked off or scheduled the last remaining tasks I can. My weight is down. When I started the bariatric programme, I weighed in at 155 kg (or 341 lbs) and yesterday, I weighed in at 149,1 kg (or 328 lbs). So, I have had some slight weight loss but nothing to really write home about. I've also been going to this gym that does a 3D body scan and uses that to take measurements (which is awesome, given the fact that I kinda suck at tak…

Looking for fellow sleevers in the Miami area or close by. Also if anyone has a membership at Sam's Club, BJ's, or Costco. I really need to get Premier Protein shakes by the bulk...better for my budget. I'm a starving student completing my master's program. Purchasing just by the four pack isn't feasible and I'll be on pre-op diet for another week in a half.

I am now one week away from my surgery. I'm feeling a bit apprehensive, as this is this most serious surgical procedure that I have ever had. Does anyone have some word of wisdom that they can share? Things you wish you knew before the procedure? Anything different than what you had expected?

Great news! If you have Presbyterian Insurance and live close to the Albuquerque area, we no longer have to go to El Paso Texas for bariatric surgery. Presbyterian now has a brand new startup local Bariatric program affiliated with Presbyterian Rust Hospital in Rio Rancho. Del Sol is still contracted with Presbyterian insurance and you can still use their bariatric program there, but, if you live closer it may be worth looking into. Dr. William Van Rice is the bariatric doctor for their program. I had lap band to sleeve revision surgery and can only give Dr. Van Rice the highest of recommendation. Jake

Just wondering if anybody ever tried it out, there are several Pho shops around my house and I love it, just wondering if since I can have beef and chicken broth if Pho falls in that category? FYI to those who don't know, Pho is a traditional Vietnamese soup. And it is so good you wouldn't believe it.

My doctor pulled the trigger and put a referral in for me to start the 12 week Options Class. But I'm impatient and I want to start liquid diets now to see how I can handle it. I want to do it for one week and see how it goes from there. Any advice if I should give it a trial run in the early stages?

I got to tell you. I would have never guessed that I would lose weight before my pre op diet. The last time I lost 16lbs was nearly 3 years ago! I have been battling weight issues from just being overweight to being obese for years. When I made up my mind to enter into this bariatric program I also made up my mind to work it & relearn how to look at food. It is a process. Nutrition class was such a great wake up call & how to open my mind to change. My surgeon always reminds me to keep my weight down in my last couple of visits. It never clicked that I was free to start my own pre op diet before my actual pre op diet. My pre op diet officially starts July 3 &…

What's up guys just throwing it out there that I'm 2 weeks away from my date finally since working towards it since my August '16 seminar. I know everyone's doctors do it a little different but I'm just trying to get the consensus for what you all think my diet is since my paperwork got ruined a while back and I don't get my new one until tomorrow at my pre op appointment. Obviously I know it's no solid food but I should be drinking protein shakes, broth, sugar free popcicles and jello right? I'm doing good on my diet, I'm steadily losing weight here's an update. Well they are getting my discharge papers ready now, so looks like I will be going home in the next hour or so! Surgery went well and I have exceeded my liquid requirements. Still have some pain and swelling ( gas) in my stomach but that is to be expected ! I'm ready to get started on my weight loss journey[emoji3]

Haha. This probably an odd question, but maybe not? What happens if you are on your period during the surgery? Do they let you use tampons or free flow (haha) everywhere? I'm probably going to be on mine when I have surgery, so I wanted to know what to expect.

Hi, guys! I am brand new to this forum. I am looking at my Sleeve surgery in August. I meet with my psychologist next week, on Tuesday! I've already seen my dietician/nutritionist, and we discussed my love for pop. I am now on day 5 of no Dr. Pepper! If you knew me, you would know my heavy addiction to it. Now that I've given that up, I find my craving for carbonated drinks sooooo much heavier now. I love bubbly drinks, and I've read that they are bad for post-op patients due to the bloating it causes. Anyone else experienced that? I'm so excited and even more dedicated to this lifestyle change! I can't wait to be a success story!

I just got approved for the gastric sleeve surgery. I don't have a surgery date yet but we're most likely looking at mid September. I'm getting mixed reviews every time I bring up the amount of time I will need to be off work. My doctor tells me not long, I've asked various people and they tell me anything from a week to 6 weeks. I just wanted to see what others have to say. I know it is dependent on how your body heals, the kind of work you do and how physical your job is. I am a registered nurse, but my job is not physical at all. I don't work in a hospital or nursing home setting so I'm not real worried about that. I have access to a refrigerator and a kitchen area to …

I came across some info on nutritional i.v & banana bags. If you had either one or both can you explain them to me. Also, why the doctor ordered it. The only understanding I got from what I read was if there was a deficiency and dehydration. I was wondering how bad do you have to be to get these. Seems like if they help feed the body vitamins and the other hydrates it should be something we all should have?

Hi. I am 9 days post op, and my surgeon cleared ne 3 days ago to start soft meats and veggies. I have tried eggs, cheese, chili abd crab cakes (that was the only thing that didn't agree with me) I am getting very tired of eggs. I found a bread today with 6g carbs, I believe 1 g sugar. Do you think it would be ok if I made french toast out of 1 slice? I have not been told I could have protein bars or fruit. I don't know what else to have. I am going to contact a dietitian on Monday. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

So, I've completed about 6 months of prep work including attending an in-person support group, 2 meetings with my primary care doc, 3 meetings with the nutritionist, 1 fitness class, 2 surgical consults, an upper endoscopy (I have acid reflux), an MRI (I get migraines), reading through a large informational binder, and watching a couple of hours worth of informational videos ... Now, finally, I've had my last consult, scheduled my final blood test (they're very thorough around here), and will soon schedule the surgery and I'm freaking out a little. I don't know anyone who has done this. I'm afraid of losing a lot of weight really fast and I'm afraid of NOT losin…

So I am a little frustrated with Kaiser at the moment. My original appointment was back on April 5th. My Doctor was completely supportive and very kind. He told me to go to the Orientation class the following Monday April 10th to start my wl journey and so I did. I drove the hour and a half to the Corona Kaiser straight after work and was very excited to get the ball rolling. When I got there they told me I couldn't stay and that I had been assigned a different orientation that was actually another 2 weeks away. What!?! Why had no one told me?! [emoji30] Unfortunately I was set to be out of town that week. So they sent me home and told me to call the next day and resch…

Hey everyone, So I am super nervous about my upcoming gastric sleeve surgery, which was scheduled for July 3rd, but has now been moved to July 13th. I was looking forward to having the surgery on July 3rd since that would have put me at 6 weeks post op before my vacation to Spain and Italy. If I stick with July 13th then I will only be 4 weeks post op when I leave for my trip. I am debating if I should just hold off until September. Can anyone here share their experience with international travel after surgery or more specifically your energy level and what you ate if you went on vacation 4 weeks post op. Thanks!

Hi all. I've finally committed to getting Sleeved. I have a few questions because I'm a little uninformed on 1) the process to get started 2) the process/options with my insurance. The basic info: 30 years old, live in Los Angeles. Lifelong overweight and dieter, currently about 300 and 5' 3". I've tried medically supervised weight loss before (Kaiser), but I don't have ANY comorbidities. I might have very mild sleep apnea, but will obviously have to get tested for that. Insurance: right now I have Medi-Cal with LA Healthcare. 1) What is the process to get started? - I've never been to my current PCP. Is it possible to get a referral from her on the first…

Hey! I just completed my psych evaluation today and I thought I would come here sins share my experience. Okay, my insurance is Cigna so it didn't require the mmpi test. My test was about 150 questions half were true/false and the rest were agree/disagree. Also the doctors asked me a couple questions to make sure that will follow the guidelines of the doctor after the surgery. Basically, making sure I'm not crazy, depressed, or panic/anxiety attacks. The process took about an hour. Then they told me that my doctor would it the results in about a week. I have my last visit with my nutritionist on July 5th! Then there is the waiting on approval.

I am just starting this journey and am finding my desire and excitmemt to be sleeved, growing each day. I am also finding that a lot of my relationship with food is incredibly mental. The first week after my initial Kaiser orentation my emotions swung like a pendulum at the thought of losing essentially my "best friend". So to combat morning the loss of food, I have decided to start a "Skinny List," a bucket list to fulfil missed opportunities. Mainly all of the things I haven't been able to do because of my weight or chose not to do because I was afraid of others judgement. I am just curious if any others have a Skinny List, and what adventures are on it!? [emoji132][…

Hi everyone. I've been having problems with the scheduling at my surgeon's office and am disconcerted by their behavior. In a previous post here, I mentioned that there was an oddly long wait to get a date. I waited the entire time frame (plus a few days) that the scheduler gave me for her to call, and she did not call. I contacted her today and she said I should expect a call in the next TWO weeks from today (well over a month from my approval). This is making me sick to my stomach as I am up against a deadline here to get the surgery. I mentioned this and it seemed to be brushed off. Backstory aside, is there any way to contact my insurance company and try to see if t…

Ive realized tho I have no appetite..literally no desire to even drink my shakes anymore. I know its not healthy but even the thought of having a shake makes me nauseous. Yesterday i went the whole day just drinking water and having 1 sugar free ice pop. Is this whats suppose to happen ? Has this happened to anyone else during their pre op diet ?

I am approved for surgery and have decided to tell immediate family and select friends. These forums were helpful as I considered if I should tell people and who to tell. Since many of my friends are overweight as well, I decided that that I owed it to them to be upfront about having surgery. Hope this helps as other consider how to tell. ----------------------------------- Hello Family & Friends, I have decided to have a type of weight loss surgery called the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (or Gastric Sleeve). This is something I've been thinking about and looking into for nearly a year now. This is not a quick fix, or the easy way out. The…

My VSG surgery is 1 week away and I'm generally okay/excited about it. BUT, I do have one nagging question that I can't shake: what will the stomach pain be like when I wake up? For those of you who have had VSG already, what types of sensations or pain were you having afterward? Could you feel the titanium sutures in your stomach? If so, does this subside? Does your stomach ever go back to feeling neutral/like it used to before surgery (other than the "full" sensation, which I know will be higher than before surgery)? Thanks for sharing your experience!

I have a class next Monday to learn more in depth about the pre-op necessities but would like to start my pre-op diet now to get a good 2 weeks in before surgery. I have the basic outline but I need more examples of what the pre-op diet includes. Could you guys please give me a general outline for what your pre-op diet is? Thanks so much!
