I had sleeve surgery in Jan 2017. I only told my husband, grown children & a few friends. My sister lives in CA & I haven't seen her in years. I've lost 60 lbs, I feel good, everyone tells me I look fantastic! Well my sister saw my picture on FB...she called to ask if I was sick & dying! She was very negative, asked me if I had surgery...at that point I lied and said no. After those comments she doesn't deserve to know! Hi everyone: I had my four-month weigh-in for my six-month long insurance required doctor-monitored diet. My insurer requires this before they will approve the RNY procedure, which is fairly common from what I have learned. Well, I ended up gaining three pounds, which put me a pound over my starting weight at my first weigh-in for this program. I am so frustrated because I really haven't been eating terribly and I have been exercising. My body literally clings to this weight like its life depends on it, which is why I am going through with the RNY in the first place. I've been to my nutrition appt, next Is my psych appt, then back to my surgeon for a surgery date. My beginning weight is 265.4. I'm nervous and excited. I look at before/after pics and imagine the day I post my own!

Hello! I am new to this site today. I quickly scrolled to see if this topic has been addressed lately so that I wouldn't ask something that has already been asked. At the support group meeting that I was required to attend (per my surgeon's checklist) someone had mentioned that they ordered a chicken broth with added protein from an online company. Hi, all! I have my final appointment with my surgeon and his P.A. next week. At this point, I have jumped through all the hoops and such and am looking forward to setting a date. In all my research I have had a hard time getting solid stats on the VSG. What I am looking for is: * success rates for two-year, five-year and ten-years out As long as I am at it, complication rates for the same periods of time. I realize that VSG came about as a pre-surgery procedure for a more serious surgery (duodenal switch, right?). Hi guys! I'm new here! surgery date is July 17th I'm super excited and have a very supportive husband. Right now, nobody knows about the surgery except my husband and one friend i trust who has had it done. So, I've just completed my medical weight loss classes, obtained my psychological/psychiatric and medical clearance, attended the bariatric patient education seminar, and I am ready to finally do this! The consult is scheduled for the 31st of July and based on the timeframe I've received from the surgeon's office in the patient education seminar, I can expect to be on the table sometime between the 28th of August and the 11th of September. I like so many of you will be starting on the road of a healthier me- my sleeve surgery is set for 28-Jul. I've begun the "fun" process of withdrawing from all the bad things that I ate and drink to make myself feel better. Now the hard work begins. Hi all, About three months ago, I decided to look into my insurance requirements for gastric bypass. Seeing that it was a 3 month requirement, I started working with a registered dietician and personal trainer to help me maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen. I finally scheduled my first appointment with my surgeon for next week, and was wondering if I will have to start my regimen over, or if they will accept that I have been working already for three months? thanks!

All testing completed, now just holding my breath for insurance approval. I'm at the lower scale of obesity at 35 BMI. Hopefully, they see all the health issues that I have and realize that this is a needed procedure for me. This is a way for me to be able to get healthy and add years to my life. I would love to see my grand-babies grow up.

Hi I have officially decided in getting my VSG with Dr. Illan this august. I was reading up on the single incision gastric sleeve has anyone had this done instead of the traditional 4 to 5 incision ?

So a few months ago I read someone posted this website for great extensions, they were not the Secret Extensions by Daisy Fuentes but very similar to these in which they have the string that attaches over your head and its hidden, I am not interested in clip on or weaved they apply more pressure to the follicles whereas these don't while we are going through our hair loss issues..can anyone help me? I am looking to book in my surgery soon but it's just hit me how much I rely on food smoking alcohol soft drinks as coping mechanisms. I don't have a happy life and I need to cope somehow. Has anyone else faced this issue and how did you cope post surgery. It feels scary to be without these things. Thanks Kate

Hello Everyone, I've struggled with my weight as long as I can remember. I delivered identical triplets in Feb. 2013 and have not been able to get to my pre baby weight which was around 190lbs. After having the girls I developed an incisional hernia on my c-section line that has grown to the size of a grapefruit. It causes daily pain and I haven't found a surgeon that will even consider fixing it until I'm down to 150lbs. Christmas of 2016 I was 260lbs and have been able to get down to 212lbs and have plateaued there for about 5 weeks. I'm incredibly active walking about 8 miles a day 6 of hard walking. (I am being sleeved by Dr. Margaret Inman at St. Vincent Bariatric Center for Excellence). I have my Pre-op testing on April 20, 2017. I think they told me it can take up to two weeks for them to get those results back. Once your testing is complete and they get the results back, and you get medically cleared to have surgery how much longer do you have to wait till you get a surgery date? Sorry I'm getting a little inpatient I started this process in June of 2016, and after to denials letters and finally getting approved I am really looking forward to finally finding out when the surgery date is.

I am new to the site so i hope someone responds. I am 20 years old and was sleeved on June 16,2017. My one month check up is tomorrow (7/17) and currently i am the pureed diet. This diet sucks and seems like the only thing i ever want to eat are potatoes, cream of wheat and skinless boneless chicken. I did cheat and had a wheat cracker ( not ritz but another brand) . I also eat a lot of cheese. Can someone tell me what you were eating during the pureed stage? Hopefully i am moved to soft food tomorrow so can someone tell me everything they ate at that stage also. Hi everyone, I am new to this so I am not sure if I am posting in the correct spot. I have back and knee pain, and no threatening conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes or cholesterol. I started telling my family and some of them support me, some don't. Those that don't support me think I will die from the surgery because I have severe allergies to 5 antibiotics (bactrim, penicillin, augmentin, cleocin, and cefzil). If I were to get an infection or something there are less options of how to treat me for it. My brother literally told me to write my will before I get the surgery. I've already emailed my surgeon asking him for reasons he would think I would survive it…

Has anyone had any problems with their dentures not fitting after surgery? As of yet I don't have dentures but am considering them before the year is out. My dental and surgery insurance will no longer be available to me next year so I'm trying to get everything done.

Does anyone know the chance of getting denied for surgery after you have already completed all the necessary steps? I still have three months to go so I'm just wondering what happens after all the weigh-ins, endoscopy, etc. I don't want to be denied at the last minute. Any input would be great!

I was told that we had to give up diet soda before the operation. I thought I would give myself until the last month to enjoy it but at four months, I was just told that I need to be off of them now. Have I messed up by not stopping it before now? Do you think I can continue drinking them for another month? My doctor says now but I'm curious as to what other instructions are out there. In the scheme of things this isn't a large issue but it is a burning one for me!

So my surgeon told me that my insurance takes a month to approve. He booked my surgery for July 19th. This was on June 13th, I called my insurance a couple of days ago and they told me they had not received anything. I called and kind of beat around the bush and asked if I should start my preop diet regardless of me knowing whether or not I was going to get approved (LOL- I didn't want to come off as a pain). Hello everyone, so I am very torn with how much recovery time I actually need. I had the lapband and was sore for 3 days, I milked it and took two weeks off. This time around I dont want to take time off I dont need ( I have kids now)- so how many days off would is appropriate? I really need and appreciate the feed back!

Hello! I am going to be scheduled September 21, 2017… That is if Blue Cross approves, otherwise I have to wait until early October. I am borderline Celiacs Disease and I am allergic to wheat gluten salmon and corn. I need a good recommendation for a dairy free protein powder that can provide 25 or more grams of per serving.
