Has anyone been told that they DO NOT have to do the pre-op diet? No one at my doctor's office has mentioned it to me and I just had a CT scan for other issues and it states that I have a normal size liver. Just wondering???

I spoke to my dr today, he wants me to move onto soft meats tomorrow. I don't understand how I can move to soft meats from the liquid stage. I haven't even tried eggs or soft foods yet. I'm nervous about this. Has anyone else moved on so fast? I had surgery a week ago tomorrow. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

Can anyone recommend a good tasting brand? My 1st day of my liquid diet is today along with my pre op and it's too late for Amazon. One thing I will say is that I am looking forward to not spending so much money on food. My office orders takeout every day (some days it is paid for). I work in an Italian neighborhood full of yummy restaurants. It is so hard to resist normally but the liquid diet will give me the push to say no. I've even asked the receptionist to leave me off the daily emails.

Hello! I feel as if my journey is FAR from normal. I don't really know who else really has a situation like mine. I've had a very bumpy start in my program and I thought I got cheating, and not doing well out of my system early on. But here I just find myself falling into bad habits. I'm not sure if its because I'm stressed, or because I have a lot going on in my personal life. Basically I had my dietitian appointment mid may. After that appointment I hurt my back, really bad, pulled muscle. I wasn't allowed to do any exercise due to where I had pulled my muscle, and the 'severity' of my weight. Not being able to work out bummed my mood SO SO much. I wasn…

My surgery (gastric bypass)is July 17. Time flies& so the countdown begins....For 7 months I have been researching & educating myself outside of the nutrition class on gastric bypass. I have been on many sites&seen many you tube videos & this forum and a couple others and really got a wide range of what to expect & my responsibilities. You learn a lot by the good hearts of others who have posted the details of what they have endured, conquered, struggled with& pros & cons. This forum is a blessing. It is so helpful. Its always a good thing to get as much education in such an important decision as this. So,all the July surgeries good luck to you …

I was never a big water drinker, but since my surgery (2 days ago) I can't even tbink about drinking it. Crystal light is a little better. I think I'm going to talk to the visiting nurse about Powerade 0 tom. I am not drinking much at all. Broth, popsicles, yogurt, pudding all go in fine, but liquids...no way! I also read that ppl use gas x strips, I can't find them ANYWHERE, are the desolving ones ok? Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

I've finally decided that Gastric Sleeve surgery is for me and I'm seeing the surgeon in a few weeks for a consult. However, I have a hiatal hernia right above my belly button. Can I get it repaired and have the VSG at the same time?? I'm hoping it's not going to get in the way of me having this. I'm 5'5" and weigh 300 pounds. Thank you in advance for your care and concern!

So I just learned that if you go to insurenutrition.com They can see if your insurance will cover protein shakes and they send them to you! Thought it was really cool and that I would share the knowledge. I haven't tried it yet because I'm just starting my 6mo medically supervised stuff for insurance.

I was added to a group on Facebook for a surgeon in Mexico and I saw some post that the surgeon has them take Magnesium Citrate a few days before surgery. Has anyone that didn't go to Mexico, do the same thing? My doctor told me that I need to "stay on top of it" because if we are cleared out, it makes it easier on us after surgery. Less gas and pain. But she didn't really give any suggestions or anything. If you did have to take something, what do you recommend and what was post op like for you? Please do not say "every doctor is different, ask your surgeon." Ugh. I'm asking for everyone's experience. I swear I get dumb responses like that all the time, and I know that…

Sorry for posting a lot, but I have just finished my first day of pre-op liquid diet (consisting of Optifast 3x a day, or clear liquids like broth and plenty of water). My diet will consist of 14 total days, my surgery is scheduled for June 27th. My insurance did not agree with this surgery, so I was extremely lucky and very grateful that my parents (I'm 20 years old) have stepped in and paid for it. I made it through today with minimal hunger and slight stomach cramping and a headache until bed time... which is now. I don't feel hungry I don't think.. but in my mind I am. This all liquid diet is the hardest thing I've ever done and it's only been a day! I'm currently on …

My hubby and I had our initial consultation. Surgeon believes we are excellent candidates for the sleeve, and doesn't believe there will be any issues getting our insurance approval. He said he doesn't really have many denials, and my insurance is really good about approving it. We are now officially on our 6 month medically supervised weight loss journey. Surgery is anticipated in January. Woo whoo!! So excited to be on this journey!! Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello...I was wondering if anyone ever took a cruise shortly after surgery and if so, how did u deal with not being able to eat much or drink alcohol? I am having surgery in 3 weeks then in November I'm going on a ten day cruise. I didn't know I was having surgery when I booked it and I got the unlimited drink package and the upgraded restaurant package lol... Now here I am like an idiot, I won't be able to enjoy any of it will I? It was first cruise too!!! Anyone ever had this issue? Will everyone around me eating and drinking drive me crazy? Will I be able to have one glass of wine per day or no? Thanks!

So I came up with an outrageous reading on my H.pylori so my surgery is delayed by 6 weeks (actually, it will be 3 weeks by next Thursday). I had to go through a round of antibiotics and then wait a month to retest. If I retest for a normal level then I will be scheduled out one month for surgery. Right now I am practicing getting my water in, chewing my food to pudding consistency, buying all my pre-op and post-op needs (coughing pillow, shower chair, etc.), getting caregivers together for me and my dog. Additionally, I am also getting rid of furniture to make way for exercise equipment and just plain old exercise. I am journaling, meditating, listening to audio…

Hello everyone! Here is my WLS story...I got banded on 8/2014 SW:369, I am now almost 3 years out and weigh 335lbs. Clearly I failed my lap-band. I try not to be hard on myself but its almost impossible not to be. Post-op I had 2 pregnancies (1 of which was a demise) So needless to say my weight was up and down, at my lowest I went down to 312lbs. I recently had a baby boy 12/2016 highest prepartum weight was 345lbs, I came down to 335lbs postpartum, had a fill on 5/3/2017- initially I went down 6lbs and now I'm back up! I am not a victim here..I know my eating habits play a major role. There are days where I am your regular Jillian Michaels and others where I'm eating li…

So after deciding to start this journey, I saw my primary this week for the referral. I have my first appointment with surgeon scheduled in August. Have had some labs done as well. The oddest thing...I've dropped four pounds. In a week. After being stalled for two months. Go figure. So I wonder if I keep losing weight, will I get approved for surgery? My insurance says I have to be on a six month supervised weight loss before surgery can be scheduled. Even though I may keep losing weight, I know I will gain it back (and more) if I don't get sleeved, based on past history. Just curious if anyone else has had these thoughts?

I haven't been referred -- my insurance doesn't require it, but I made an appointment with surgeon. I haven't been to my doctor in a year and I really have no idea what to expect in this first appointment. His staff said that is fine and they will do all the communication with insurance company. Has anyone followed this same path? Will I have an physical exam with the surgeon or do we just talk? I have no idea what to expect. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

What's up everybody, long time lurker, first time poster. I have a surgery date of July 6 and I am looking for others as well. This is actually my second time going through this process, I went through the process like 2.5 years ago and stopped my surgery about a week before it was time to go through with it. I am going to do it this time, I need to. I'm prior service Army Infantry and there is a pretty big stigma about how this will be taking the easy way out from my friends who I served with which is why I'm only telling very few people. Not a lot of people I interact with have any knowledgeable information about what I'm getting ready to do so this is why I keep it to …

Good morning all, I have been on this app for a couple of months but this is my first introductory post. My name is Natalie and I live in the Greensboro, NC area. I started this journey the end February and time is really flying by. My insurance doesn't require supervised weightloss which I think is really good. I've learned so much from this app, and the following books, Weight loss Surgery for Dummies & Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success. I'm excited, nervous and anxious all at the same time. I'm looking forward to interacting and meeting others on this site. Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

Ok, so I'm just getting started on the WLS journey. I haven't even seen my surgeon yet. I am fairly certain that my insurance will cover the sleeve surgery once I jump thru the hoops, but I was wondering if anyone can give me more details. I have Anthem Healthkeepers ( same as anthem BCBS I assume). And I have a BMI of 44.4, but no comorbidities at all. As far as the 6month supervised weight loss thing, how does that typically work? Am I just writing everything I eat and drink down and workouts? Do I check in with the Dr monthly? Just trying to get a handle on this whole thing. Thanks y'all!!
