Hi, I've been given the run around with my insurance company, part of it is part of my surgeons office fault. I was denied the first time because we failed to provide all the documents such as my last supervised visit and recommendation from my pcp, well we've now have all that squared away and I'm currently waiting for a approval. My question is has any one ever been denied with Cigna for not having any conditions such as Sleep apnea, high blood pressure etc. oh and btw my BMI 40+

Hi everyone I am new here, I'm going to my seminar to start the process for WLS tomorrow. I want to hear from people who are addicts/alcoholics who are sober whom have gone thru the process. I'm afraid that bc of my past history and medication I'm on for opiate addiction I will not qualify or my process will be harder. I'm a recovering addict for 3 1/2 years, from heroin addiction and currently working a program and on suboxone. This has worked for me. I had a c section a year ago I was on subutex during my pregnancy and under the knife. Which it was fine for baby and me baby healthy and no w/d . I'm worried that I will be judged and told to get off meds completely when …

I am in the process of finding a doctor and I'm about to do my sleep study because my doctor thinks I have sleep apnea. I have been doing all this without my husband knowing so I could have info to bring to him before I dicuss it with him but I not the one to lie to my other half so I told him and now he says he doesn't want me to to it at all. I have been through stuff when I was younger and started to put on weight at 8 hoping the stuff would stop. Now I am 26 and weigh 350. I love my husband and want to be around for a long time and have a long happy life with him. I just don't know if I should go through with it if he doesn't want me to. He is scared about what could …

I started my liquid diet Friday and have not cheated once, I even maxed out my protein and water requirements, plus a light workout yesterday, and I gained a pound, could it be that I am not getting calories and fat? I had 7 grams of fat and 434 calories on the same day I maxed it out. I already feel a bit defeated and have not even had my surgery, that is Monday the 21st.

Hi everyone! I'm about to start the process to get approved for surgery; insurance is requiring me to go to the doctor for a weight reduction program for 6 months and a psych evaluation. My question for you guys that already have a surgery date: How long did it take you from the beginning of the process to the time you scheduled surgery? Did you have to take any extra steps because of the insurance?

I've been going back and forth on getting the sleeve. I have been heavy my whole life, have had some wins with weight loss but continue to gain it back. Currently 390 and just shy of 6'. Biggest concern is complications from surgery as I'm paying out of pocket since my insurance plan doesn't cover. I have a 3 yr old and 1 yr old and want more energy for them, I'm just scared of complications and dont want to live worse than I already am. Due to work getting to the gym has been tough, work has also made it difficult to eat well as I do several meals out/ group meals. I'm hoping this could be the tool to hold me accountable. Does the reward outweigh the risk. I'm currently …

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of applying for a lap band, I have struggled with my weight since I was a young teen and it is now making me depressed. I struggle to go out without covering myself in makeup and clothes that I feel 'ok' in. I'm only 22 and would like any tips or info about your story and how it worked for you. I'm currently starting to change my diet to get ready for the op but i have my deciding appointment on Friday and am very nervous as it's something I have wanted for a while. Hi there! I just got my lab work back and all of my levels are normal (whew)! I now have scheduled my psych evaluation, cardio test and sleep test. Can anyone give me some insight and details about each of the tests performed/what I will have to do? Also, I forgot to ask my dietician but with my Cigna insurance, I must be losing weight each month I see my dietician or I will have to start the process over again and prolong my surgery date. Does anyone know how much weight needs to be lost between each meeting with the dietician? Or just progress in general? Thanks for all of the help! Best of luck to everyone!

I will have my surgery in 11 days and I started the liver reduction diet a few days ago. I've noticed that I am becoming extremely emotional, crying randomly and starting to think about the what if situations... did anyone else experience this? I know this surgery is the best option for me and there is no way I'd ever consider backing out ... I just can't seem to control my feelings .. unfortunately boyfriend doesn't understand at all what I am going through and when I tried to talk to him about how I'm feeling, he just stayed silent (we live in two separate cities at the moment) ... has anyone else experienced these crazy emotions ?

Have my surgery date 8/18 when I went for results visit. Now on liver reduction into 2ND week w/pretty diarrhea beginning today. But bigger issue is my surgeon's staff was supposed to get my CPAP machine to me in May& despite my pleas by phone&via the office portal, NOTHING. I won't be allowed my surgery w/o CPAP for some time. At my results spot. my surgeon froze like a statue, when I told him, no I had not been using the machine. No one from his staff even tried. He left the room, talked to staff & two told me I would be called the next day. Nothing. Monday. Nothing. All last week I waited. Friday...she called & said someone from the company would call m…

Good evening everyone I am just now starting my sleeve journey. I heard about it from a coworker and since then I have been looking into it. I have been doing my research and even went to a seminar. I am sure this is what I want to do for my health. I had my consultation on July 28th and was told I had to wait 6 months and follow a dietary plan. I was kind of bummed at first but when the MA went down the list of things that needed to be done I kind of went into shock. By the end of my visit I was glad it was a 6 month wait because it is going to take me 6 months to get used to all of it. I have been reading how well you all support each and finally just built up the coura…

So my surgery is Friday and I am freaking nervous. I have watched so many YouTube videos about the first day and I am scared of having so much pain and feeling nauseous. This is what's giving me cold feet. I don't like pain and I don't like feeling sick to my stomach! I know it's the best thing for me to do as I have made several attempts to lose weight and nothing has worked. I want to be healthy, I want to eat right but a part of me is scared to go through this procedure. I know it will be worth it in the long run and I am excited for what the results will be, but I hate hospitals and it is freaking me out. Is this normal? Did anyone else have these feelings? Sent…

Hey guys! My surgery is scheduled for Aug 29... so excited I know I need to give my body proper rest for recovery but I am enrolled in a class that starts Sept 11th. Roughly 2 weeks after my surgery. The class is only once or twice a week for a few hours each day, for about 3 months. It's mandatory to progress at my work and is only offered once a year. I believe that you can only miss one class due to the excelled pace of the course. Realistically... am I going to be able to sit through a 3hr course with enough energy and brain capacity to retain information, two weeks post-op? Any tips? Thanks in advance! - xx

Hello all! Just wondering if anyone has been going through what I have been. Last year I lost 40 lbs but now I have gained it all back. My doctor referred me to the sleeve due to health reasons (high BP and High Cholesterol) My mom is mad about it and won't even discuss it with me. My friends are trying to get me to start a gym membership with them and said I can lose weight to fast to go through this surgery. They said they worry about me. I am 5'5" and I weigh 240 lbs. I get this gasp of "OMG, you are having that dangerous surgery" when I mention it to someone. My husband was not for it until my first app. Now he is for it, not 100%, but is not trying to talk …

Hello! So I've been on this journey since January, and I'll find out my surgery date tuesday! I'm so ready [emoji4] My question is for the moms out there. Particularly the single mothers (or fathers!) How did you deal with telling your children? I have an almost 4 year old and I know my mom will help watch him as I recover but my surgeon requires 2/3 nights at the hospital and will only release you if he feels comfortable with you going home. So did you tell your children what was going on or should I just say I'll be away on a trip? I don't want him to worry or be scared I'm in a hospital. I'm hoping for a November or December date so that there will be a lot of family …

Hello everyone I am Terry a 49 year old {50 on the 19th } female. I am currently waiting to meet the surgeon for gastric bypass in Hamilton Ontario Canada. My appointment has been made for the 24th @ St. Joseph's west 5th campus. It has been along journey while getting all medical tests and clearances, but I can see the finish line coming ever near. I was wondering if I should expect to get my pre-op and surgery date @ this meeting, or will that come later. Any advice would be appreciated. I wish everyone great success with the pursuit of healthy bodies, and happy lives.

I started the process January 9 of this year. The surgeon submitted everything on July 24th I am just waiting to find out if I have been approved. My next appointment the 24th is just a weigh-in. If approved I start 2 week liquid diet then surgery, my surgeon told me the process could be up to 6 weeks. It has been a long process. I had to have bloodwork, EKG, gallbladder ultrasound. All finished, but then I had to have up to date pap and mammogram as well. Talk about jumping through hoops. Thankful for the gallbladder ultrasound though I have gallstones that I never knew I had. Hoping I get good news on the 24th and have a surgery date.

Hey everyone! After thinking of weight loss surgery for over 2 years, I finally made the call last week for an appointment. They were able to get me in today! I am so excited but nervous as heck! I am needing a sleep study ? and an endoscope test. I do get to pass the 3 month dietary restriction due to my insurance requirements for BMI. It sounds like I need to lose 25 lbs before I can schedule surgery and possibly another 25 on the preop diet. (Which I am very nervous about failing). I broke down last week and told my husband, who encouraged me to make the call. I am so thankful he is on my side but I do not plan on telling any other…

I am drinking baby sips of water. It took me from when I got home from surgery after 4 hours, to bedtime - at home for about 5 hours, I'd only drank like 5 oz. I attempted an ounce of broth so I could take the pain pill, but I only took in 1/4 of that ounce of bone broth. I'm now in the middle of the night up and trying to drink, throat so dry. today I go back to clinic for the vitamin IV thank goodness. I'm worried about dehydration. what happened to the thread of July sleevers? I want to see how my fellows are doing.

I just had my evaluation for surgery. Met with a dietician who said to follow the South Beach Diet. Asked NP if after reach goal will I be able to eat "normally" ie go out for an ice cream, go out to eat etc. She said I could have a teaspoon of ice cream not a small cup or cone. To me this is not normal eating which is what I am looking for. I would like to hear from sleevers who are at least 2 years out. Could you tell me how you eat, and how you feel about what you eat? I know I will not stick to a diet if I feel deprived. Do you get hungry, do you feel deprived. do you feel you can eat the same as most other people do or are you constantly wanting more or oth…

I'm having the sleeve surgery in January. I need to lose 185 pounds. Realistically, is it possible to lose that much if I do what I'm supposed to and change my lifestyle and how long do you think it would take? Hey guys, So tomorrow I have the surgeon/nutrition/coordinator consult (my surgeon is Dr. Hahn) at Kaiser Fremont. Has anyone here been sleeved or had their gastric bypass done by Dr. Hahn? Is he open to lots of questions? Is he super strict about losing all of the required weight before surgery? Does he put you on a strict pre op/liquid diet? After the consult, what is supposed to happen next? I'm so nervous lol. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

Hey guys I've been on the preop diet since last Monday. The first few days went by great. Then I started cheating a tiny bit like having a string cheese. My nutritionist said I could have cheese but didn't specify what kind so I just had cheese heads. I also caved in by chewing a gummy and spitting it out. I'm starting to feel awful. I feel like I'm cheating. I lost 6pounds last week and now I'm at a stall, I haven't changed in 3 days... I'm upset, the scale isn't moving and I'm getting hungrier.. I don't know if I can make it till next Monday this whole process is making me want to cry and give up. I'm feeling guilty because I have to pay out of pocket.. and I know that…
