Hello everyone, I am fairly new to this site but I love it, and you, for bringing out so many great topics. I've scoured the internet for information for months, read the Big Book on Gastric Sleeve, and I feel ready for this. But then again, how can I know if I'm really ready. I suppose you can only prepare mentally and physically so much and then turn yourself over to the universe. I started my pre-op diet today, which is 3 protein shakes and meat/veggies for dinner. I'm really glad it's only one week. You all that have done 2-3 weeks of pre-op are real troopers. I'm trying my best to practice all the new skills: timing my meals, not drinking for 30 minutes after, g…

It is 1:26 am and I luckily just came across this page.I have a seasonal job and decided I would take this summer to focus on my physical and mental well being. I am a 35 year old female who was just diagnosed with Adhd/Add combined. I have an appointment next week to discuss treatment options with a psychiatrist. I have also been a part of a weight loss program and recently made the decision to have gastric sleeve surgery. I am still in the beginning stages but my surgeon seems to think I can have the surgery in enough time to recover before I go back to work in October. Now here's my dilemma.... If I am treated for Adhd which may be the cause of my obesity... should I …

Hey guys, so my surgery is later next month and have been doing my research for my liquid diet. I found these at Aldis and they were on sale for $1.67. They also have them at Vons, Food for Less and Kroger. I was wondering if this was a good shake for my liquid diet? Low sugar, low carb and high in protein was a reason I bought some.

So Ive been browsing the site and replied to many others with well wishes and finally my day is here on Wednesday, July 26th! I am just sooo excited that I can't contain it internally. I am literally salivating at the thought of the losers bench; the extra energy; the lighter body to finally hold a plank for 2+ minutes; easier push ups; easier stair climbing the treacherous NYC subway stairs. Just can't wait for life to finally be grand! And one NSV - I will finally since the age of 12 not have to go to the "Plus Sized" department!!! My pre-op diet with my surgeon is only required for 2 days but I will start it on Sunday instead. All clear liquids only - no protein shakes…

Hello all! I am a 37 year old male from Rochester, NY. I have looked into bariatric surgery, and feel that I could greatly benefit from this tool. I'm currently 6'3, 410 pounds, with sleep apnea and high blood pressure.... I attended a bariatric seminar (the first step in getting surgery through the hospital here), and am currently waiting on a phone call from them to schedule my first appointments. In the meantime, what sort of things can I do now to prep myself for this journey? I know the dieticians will have a plan for me to move forward, but I'm open to doing things in the meantime to prep myself, both physically and mentally. Look forward to he…

I can't believe the time has come. 6 months of supervised diets and two weeks of insurance approvals and the day is tomorrow. I go in tomorrow morning at 5:00am and since I have already pre registered I will just go in, take a urine sample and then get put under. I have been heavy ALL my 25 years of life. (Birthdays as a few days ago) so I'm hoping this is a new beginning for me and the 25 years I can live healthy and confident. I was only mandated a 2 day liquid diet however I would like to eat something small. Hoping I can curb this craving. At the end of the day this is all for my baby girl! I want to be healthy and not to mention stay active with her. Love seeing all …

Just 5 days until surgery (gasp) and thought I'd share how I've been making my protein drinks (Premier, pre-made) more palatable. In the blender, with a couple of ice cubes and a dash of cinnamon. Works on all the flavors so far, but I just picked up some strawberry so that might not be a good match. I know from this website that my tastes will change after surgery, but at least for now I'm okay! I almost forgot to add: that I put my drink in an insulated water bottle so that I can drink it over a long period and it's still cold. The longer I take to drink it, the better I can tolerate it.

My gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for this coming Thursday. I have been panicking, and as a result, I have been eating one big meal per day since my two week liquid pre-op diet started! I have been doing liquids for the majority of the day, but end up caving by the time evening comes. Yesterday was a good day because I stuck to the liquids. However, I'm petrified now because it's so close to my surgery, and this evening was not a good one. Any words of encouragement or advice on what to do? Is there any way that i will still be ok by Thursday?

The closer I get to my 2 week pre-op (Sept. 5th) the more I think about the life changes I am about to commit to,,,for life. I am cognizant, very aware and frustrated at the same time as my eating habits and style should be changing as we speak, and it has not. Knowing that I will be on this very strict diet for 2 weeks seems surreal to me, and knowing after the surgery I will have to be disciplined and very committed to this or I will not succeed in my new journey. Right now I think about going to a Chinese buffet for lunch and gorging myself, what the hell is that all about? How can I make the mental changes? I want to , I need to and I have to. I can't wait for the surgery, how ever I am loosing weight on the diet and my wife seems less on board now about my surgery, she asks why can't I just continue to follow this diet to loose my weight. She doesn't understand that you can't live on this diet it's to hard and once I would stop it the weight will just pile back on. Now she has me questioning my decision, help.

Hello all, Eight days until my bypass and I just came back from an appointment that totally surprised me! It was with a clinical pharmacist who was explaining how to give myself the blood thinner shots for 10 days after the surgery. I'm not too squeamish about these kinds of things, but I was surprised this wasn't mentioned in any of the classes, appointments, handouts, or other information I've been getting since January. What will also be a surprise is how much the prescription is going to cost me. I'm waiting to hear back from insurance, but it could be a lot. Any experience or thought about this!! Having to give myself a daily shot in the stomach for 10 days…

Hi everyone. I am new to this board but so glad to have found it. I am from Leavenworth Kansas and am about to have my gastric sleeve surgery on 9/7/17. I am hoping you can help me figure out if I screwed up. I bought the Muscletech Premium whey isolate protein powder for my two week liquid diet. It was the only one with the lowest fat and carbs. I need to know if this is okay to use as we don't have a lot of money and I can't really afford to buy more. Thanks everyone.

  33. Hi everyone. I am just starting my journey and have my first consultation on April 11th with Dr Stephens at Tx Bariatrics. I am really excited and just wondered if anyone else has used that clinic. I have my surgery scheduled for 8/24. My BMI is 36+. I met with my surgeon last week and asked what my goal weight is. She said for my height The charts say I should weigh 135 which we both agree is unrealistic. So I said what's the goal? She said I don't give my patients a "goal" weight. I just expect that they will lose about 40-50% of the excess weight within the first year. So that means about 50lbs. Which would put me at 180ish. Boy that is depressing. All this for 50lbs[emoji27]. That would still give me a BMI of 28.6. I was hoping to work down to 160-150 to try to get to a BMI under 25! Anyone else have this issue???

  40. I keep reading the expected weight loss percentages per each of the different procedures. So if you are only expected to lose 65% of your excessive weight, what keeps you losing to lose to your goal or healthy weight. Wouldn't you be following the same eating plan from the time you start eating solid foods again? How do you get rid of the remaining 35%?

I realized Im simply not mentally ready for it. Perhaps if they rolled me right in and took me to the OR I would have done it, but sitting there for 4 hours left me way too much time to think stuff over.. Hi all: I am a month out from my final weigh-in for my monitored diet and submitting to insurance for approval. I asked my PA last week if I would be getting surgery in early October like I had previously thought, and she said it's likely going to be happening in late October or even early to mid-November. On one hand, if I have surgery in mid-November than I will be on short-term disability through the holidays and will be able to spend time with my family, which is great. However, I'm concerned about having surgery so close to food-centered holidays - Thanksgiving and Christmas. Has anyone had surgery near these holidays and was it difficult to tolerate the holiday…

If there is a difference can somebody explain that to me? Also is there a difference on the amount of daily protein between the Sleeve and Gastric Bypass? Thanks for you help.

I am planning my surgery for January 10th. I am not covered for gastric bypass by my insurance company, so I am self paying in Mexico. I have heard mixed reviews about the 'ALM' and Dr. Ortiz recently but have heard numerous good things as well. I am very excited to be going and looking forward to the journey. Anyone else going there about the same time?
