Haha. This probably an odd question, but maybe not? What happens if you are on your period during the surgery? Do they let you use tampons or free flow (haha) everywhere? I'm probably going to be on mine when I have surgery, so I wanted to know what to expect.

Oh that's such a good question I hadn't even thought about! Now that I think of it I bet I will be on my period as well.
Why must it be mesh underwear? I don't own any but I could pick some up if they'll let me wear it for the surgery.

The hospital has them, no worries.

Haha. I find it hilarious that these comments are made. I know that I pee and bleed from different places. I'm 28 years old. Haha. If I am wearing a pad and underwear, how would they place a catheter during the surgery?! That is what I'm asking. So I am wondering what people had to do, did they wear tampons? Were they wearing pads? What happened?! Did they even get a cath? My surgeon does straight caths during surgery. In and out. I wasn't asking for an anatomy lesson.

Every surgeon has different protocol.. so just ask the nurse when you are getting ready.

Well, put a tampon in before you leave home. Let them know you are on your period and they can figure it out from there.

Ok, so this might be odd also. I just turned 51, and hadn't had my period for 389 days. I was like YES, this is it, finally done. Then I go and get the CPAP machine and that next morning my period came????? WTF??? would the machine have had ANYTHING to do with that? I have never used a tampon and wont, but now it's a question I keep having of will I get my next one on the next cycle. UGH

I am not a medical professional but when I went through the journey of menopause, I did a lot of reading and found out that, unfortunately, it is not a straightforward process.

I worked with a lady in the past that had not had her cycle in 18 months but became pregnant because her cycle had started again and she was sexually active.

Perhaps your period started again because your body is finally getting the oxygen it needs for proper functioning.

Or this could just be how your body is going through the menopausal journey.

I totally wondered about that for the first night of using the machine. Because it came out of nowhere. And I thought for sure, well, with 389 days and none, then BAM all of a sudden. And kept my same cycle, five days. So weird. The ONLY reason why I would want it to come back is to have a third child and yes, I now in my 50s, but other wise, WHY would this happen. My husband is all for "practicing", but that would be the only reason.

I had my pre-op appointment on Friday. The surgeon never came in. The nurse practitioner was in and out so quickly. I asked the coordinator lady what I should do, since she was telling everything else I needed to do. This is how that went:
Me: what do I do if I am on my period that day?
C: Tampon
Me: ok, I wasn't sure.
C: well, you could.... just a minute.

A few minutes later...
C:Any other questions?
Me: Yeah, the one about the period?!
C: You could do either.
C: So, you think that will be your day, huh?
Me: I believe so.
C: that sucks.
:/ it was so weird.
So I am just going to take both and ask the nurse when I changed.

So I started my period just after surgery even though it wasn't due. The nurse told me that this surgery makes almost everyone start their period. Then when I talked to one of the nurses I work with who used to work on the floor with post op bariatric pts and she told me the same thing, her exact words were, "that surgery makes everyone start their period, even the men lol"

Oh my gosh I was wondering the same darn thing!!! And whether I need to take my iud out?

I have an IUD and its fine to stay in.
