LAP-BAND Surgery Forums

LAP-BAND support. Fills, the band diet, complications, band removal, and revision to sleeve or bypass.

  1. I had my first fill on Jan 13, just 3 weeks after getting the lap band. To my surprise, I was told that the surgeon had already placed .2CC's during the procedure. I know I received the larger band but don't remember being told that a fill had already been made. Has this happened to anyone else? I wonder if the fill was done because of the larger band? I was also surprised that my FIRST/second fill was only 3 weeks after surgery. And, my next fill is in 3 weeks. BTW: I had no problem with the 1st fill. My nurse said that Dr. C. Riley [Houston] was very consistent in the placement of the port. She knew exactly where it was and did very little searching. No …

  2. Hello, I'm new to this forum, really regret not knowing it was here since I've been dealing with issues for years and procrastinating about dealing with it. SO hopeful someone here has some suggestions, guidance, reassurance and/or will kick my ass to get me moving. Some details are fuzzy, forgive those please. Brief history: I got my band in August 2002 in Chicago, just a couple months after discovering it existed. Lost 20 pounds pre-op with excitement and restricted liquid diet. I had a hernia removed at the same time so I spent one night in the hospital and my recovery was slow. Did quite well with the band, not remembering the specific details about the weight …

  3. I have been banded since 2007. I had all the fluid taken out of my band about a year ago when I was first pregnant. I had a rough pregnancy with bad acid reflux and throwing up almost every night (from the reflux). Now that my baby is here the reflux got better for a while. Now it is back and I've started sliming/vomiting some after eating. It felt like my band was too tight. I went to the doc and did a barium swallow. You can see the barium go down and stop before the band. It barely goes through! So I have full restriction with no fluid in my band. The nurse didn't know what to think. The doctor says I should have it removed. Has this happened to anyone else?…

So today is my week 2 weigh in day and my loss for this week is.... 2.7kg!!! I am beyond thrilled as this takes my grand total to 10.1kg. I've done many diets over the years and I have not reached a 10kg total loss for about 20 years so this is a massive achievement for me. Week 2 also marks the beginning of the soft food phase for me. I am currently enjoying scrambled eggs with some cheese and tomato chopped up in it. As it has been 5 weeks since I've eaten anything remotely like this - they are the best scrambled eggs I have ever eaten in my entire life... So Happy Thursday everyone and enjoy!!! livelovelapband.blogspot.com.au

ok guys, need HELP!! Just heard from my surgeon and i'm going to have to have my lap band removed after having it for 8 years. My stomach has prolapsed in a very odd way and no chance of getting it replaced or repositioning. Too risky of it doing it again. NOW, what do i do. Going to have to have it removed in the next couple weeks so what do i need to expect after the surgery? diet? how long on liquids? how long is recoop?? PLEASE, NEED ANSWERS. I'm scared and worried about gaining my weight back. No option of sleeve either because of my bmi is too low for insurance to pay.

Well the bad news is I didn't see a great deal of movement on my scale this week - in fact the only movement I had went up slightly - 300g, Taking me back to 12kg loss total!!! The good news is that I saw my dietician this morning and have been well assured that this is actually normal. I clearly need to have another fill which is scheduled for next Friday. I was really bummed about my weight gain yesterday and thank goodness for some very close friends of mine that are there for me all the way and supporting me because I really needed it yesterday. Today I have a much clearer mind and totally understand that it's a process!!!!! livelovelapband.blogspot.com…

I was banded in 2010. I went from 253 to 160. I had maintained my weightloss until about a year sgo when I had to have an emergency total hysterectomy. After that surgery I gained about ten lbs and then it kinda steadied out. Over the last six months I have been dealing with some relationship issues and am now single. I recently stepped on the scale to realize ive gained another 10 or so lbs. Realizing ive slipped back into some bad habbits. All that goes down when I am stressed are sliders and I often struggle with liquids even. So here I am again, starting over and im trying to get back into eating right, like I should and starting my workouts again. I feel alone and…

In May I will have been banded for 2 years and I'm still learning about myself and this band. I got back into the dreaded scale habit. For the first year and 1/2 I was banded I didn't own a scale, I would only weigh myself at my monthly dr. check-ups, well then my surgeon basically overnight became no more and I found myself in the position that I had to find a new dr., so after 3 months without a weigh-in it was driving me crazy I knew my clothes were fitting the same - (which is the all time measurement), but I broke down and bought a scale. At first I did well, I weighed myself once a week. I had my first consultation with my new dr. and my weight was exactly the s…

I have received unsettling news that I know will upset quite a few of you. Yau is back doing surgeries at Slimband but they are trying t keep it a secret. Since Dr. Yau resigned from his position at Slimband in February of this year, his patients (including those banded under TLBC) have been told that Slimband is no longer treating them because Yau no longer works there. I called Slimband Patient Support last week and asked the following: Is Dr. Yau still working at Slimband? – the answer was no. Does Dr. Yau still work, in any capacity, out of the Prince Arthur medical clinic? – the answer was no. Are Dr. Yau’s patients, including those banded under TLBC, being…

Just wanted opinions of how often is too much? For example, once a day? Once a week? I got a fill on Tuesday and have had a couple of episodes of sliming since so I think I need smaller bites for myself personally.

  14. Hi All! Looking to start making and freezing high-Protein, lap band friendly Soup recipes. Fingers crossed all is on track for a March 2015 surgery date. Just bought an immersion blender and plan to freeze in silicone ice cube trays. Sounds like you treat early post-op foods just like homemade baby food. Any other tips and suggestions welcome. Thanks! Hi Everyone! Just wanted to share, I am 1 month out since surgery and today I hit a total 30 pound lost. That's 20 pounds preops and 10 pounds since the band. I currently eat around 1200 calories a day and I do 2 (30min) workouts a day for 5 days a week.

Hi gang! Got to the green a couple of months ago. Finally, ya know. Well I ended up at goal in December and was told not to lose anymore. Well in the last 5 weeks I have lost 8lbs. Not trying at all. Just physically cannot any more than I do. I eat 1 to 2 meals a day and a snack. If I want something I eat it. So everyone is on my butt since I am still losing. I talked to my nut. She is going to blood work when I come down next month. I asked her how many more calories a day I need to eat. She said 200 and gave me some ideas. I think I can do that. She also suggested that doc my take a little out of my band so I can increase my volume just a bit. I can pretty much …

  18. Hello all....I am just starting the process in doing some research on local lap band docs. Was wondering if anyone had suggestions on doctors in the HEB, Grapevine/Southlake, Forth Worth area? Here are a few doctors I've done some research on; Dr. D Kim in Hurts, Dr. Robert Snow, and Dr. Philip Swanson in Southlake. Any feedback would be great!!

So my banding date was nov 21st. Which means I'm just past my 2 week mark. I had a situation today where I had to lift something heavy. I've been having a really bad cramp like feeling on my left side pretty much where my furthest incision is. But like inside pain. Feels exactly like when you run and get a cramp. Did I screw something up by lifting? It feels really sharp when I breathe deeply also. Help!

I have researched and researched, scheduled the information seminar, I was absolutely sure this was going to be the answer to all my prayers (and believe me I have prayed about it!) today I finally got a human at the insurance company and they tell me that this is a non covered surgerical proceedure. I'm devistated. I want to just go into debt and self pay. I want this that bad. I will never drive a new car, I will work summers (usually I am off) I will give up my mulch and spring flowers....But is it fair to ask that of my family? So it's official, I just got off the phone with my surgeons office... I scheduled my surgery for January 22nd, 2014! Feeling emotional. Scared, excited and nervous all at the same time. I have a major emotional attachment to food and I know Post Op things are probably going to change. Scared and nervous about that. It's finally becoming real and I know my life is going to change, to the better I hope. I plan on taking professional BEFORE photos, so that I could share professional AFTER photos too!

  25. I just got banded on August 9, 2012 and I couldn't be happier. I have been dealing with my weight my whole entire life, and I am only 24. I have 60-70 lbs to lose. I hold my weight pretty proportionally too. When making the decision to get the lapband, I got a whole lot of "you are too skinny to get the lapband", or "you should just be happy with yourself the way you are", or "you should just diet/exercise, surgery is too drastic", yet, when someone who is 300 lbs says that they are going to get WLS, people are always so supportive of them. It's like telling that 300 lbs person that they can have the lapband, but only until they get to 190 lbs... And then they are goin…

I had my lap band inserted on the 17th November 2014 and have just returned to the Dr yesterday for my first fill. He did ask if I wanted it nice and tight , which I of course said yes to immediately. He showed me a picture of the zones and said that he wanted me in the Green zone......looked good, let's get this thing started!!!! I believe I heard him say he was to fill 1.5ml, which is great, except 1 day after I feel nothing.......no restriction (to be fair he has put me on a liquid diet for the next 48 hrs). 30. I rely on fast food for lunch breaks and sometimes for Breakfast. Occasionally dinner. That habit isn't likely to significantly change. What must change are the food choices from those places. I've made these band friendly choices so far: Wendy's chili Subway chopped salads Not so good for weight loss so saying buh-bye for now (saying buh-bye forever is too sad): Popeye's chicken strips (fried) Starbucks mozzarella and tomato panini (carb-y) I know I am not alone. Many of us rely on takeout for our meals. What are your band friendly choices?

I had the lap band about 13 months or close to a year ago. I had the lap band with plication. I really didn't know it would be this strong. I am pretty young I'm 27 years old and I was obese and I decided to get the lap band. The doctor said that he would recommend plication with the lap band, and so that's what I had done. Basically I lost a lot of weight but I have a really bad problem with depression since getting banded. I feel really really depressed and I don't know what to do ever since I got the surgery. Hi all I've been banded for 10 years and had a complete unfill in June this year due to acid reflux. I have since then gained 2.5 stone (35pounds) and feeling miserable decided to go for a fill. I had 5ml put into a 13ml band and apart form severe abdominal pain ( so bad I couldn't drive home ) I have no restriction at all today but still feel vey uncomfortable almost like I've pulled a muscle I'm my abdomen. I've called the clinic today and they say it's swelling but I'm wondering why no restriction ? Anyone had similar experience ? Thanks

Hi all, I am a long term bandster and am wondering what books you recommend on living with the band?? I know there are a lot of books on the actual surgery, etc. but I am looking for something more along the lines of actually living with it, nutrition, exercise. I find these are good to read from time to time for inspiration and constant reminders...... Thanks! The one I read when I had my surgery was by Kaliyah Ali called fighting weight. It was a great read.

  36. I haven't seen much about the co-morbids coming into range or getting resolved etc. I am not sure a forum such as this is for me. It all still seems to show that WLS is about the aesthetics. It's all about how much weight people have lost or what clothes size they are or if they need plastic surgery or a makeover etc., etc. This is frustrating to me because I got a band to save my life....not to wear a smaller size or be this or that to whomever wherever. I feel like I'm the odd man out here. It's entirely frustrating and part of me is disgusted with being angry about people and their superficial view of themselves and others. Didn't anyone here get surgery to prolong th…

It seems the past two weeks I've been able to eat alot more. I don't have any issues with pain, acid reflux, or anything else. I still have restriction--I've been able to drink more Water, I've had less PB episodes. My band tends to be influenced by hormones, weather, etc. And maybe the weather changes to fall are causing this feeling. Do you pros think that I should have any reason for concern? My last adjustment was November 2013, and I just saw my surgeon 2 weeks ago for my 1.5 year checkup. Other than ordering a nutritional panel for blood work, he said see you in 6 months. I just have irrational fear of slippage, erosion, etc.

After a two year fight with my insurance company, I was banded in December, 2010 by Dr. Jeffery Hunter in Seattle WA. My pre-band weight was 305 lbs and 24 months post-op I was at 185 lbs. After a couple years, I became complacent about my food choices and ultimately gained about 20 Lbs, but I was still exercising and felt good. In December, 2013, I was diagnosed with low grade prostate cancer, and I decided on sugery as treatment. Because of scar tissue from prior abdominal surgeries, my Dr. ordered a CT scan to determine if robotic surgery was possible.A couple days later, Dr. told me that my first priority was to remove my left kidney because of the large cancer mas…
