LAP-BAND support. Fills, the band diet, complications, band removal, and revision to sleeve or bypass.

  1. Started by dhoman,

I'm having a hard and confusing time with my band. I have a 10cc band and was filled to 6.2cc. I had my band placed in 2012 in Dallas. Since then my husband was relocated with his job. Now I'm about 7 hrs from my Dr so I found one close to where I'm at now. In Dec I got the stomach virus and was sick for 2 days afterwards I had the worse case of indigestion. I called the Dr that I see here and his nurse told me to take prevacid if it gets worse to call. It got better but at the end of January I got the Flu. After that I couldn't hardly tolerate any kind of food. I would feel really bloated some times I would have a lot of PBing but I could always tolerate fluids. This i…

I have had my lap band for a few yrs now. It's been empty. Just there, not being used. I won't go into the back story, lets just say there was no support, no way to get it adjusted, I was basically given the surgery and left out in the cold. But that is the past. Fast forward to 6 days ago....Finally a doctor who is beyond an expert in lap bands! He's amazing! I had to go to radiology & under xray to find the port....I got to see the lap band & got to see it in action!! I drank that ickky blah white chalky stuff *just a few sips* & could see Exactly how the band works!! I highly recommend this!! I could see it working!! I now have support and a doctor who …

I have not lost any weight in months, a total of 17 after surgery. I feel no restriction and it's as if the band is not there. I've had at least 6 fills since August. This is just another fail, I guess. So frustrated with myself. Now I have a foreign object in my body for no reason... Battling pneumonia at the moment which I'm now reading could be a complication from lap band. Tried to stay positive for a long time but not feeling it anymore. Has anyone else experienced absolutely no restriction no matter how many fills you get?

Hey folks, I have decided to reach out for some help and give this one last shot. In a nutshell, I was banded In Nov. 2008 and was Rockin all they way thru 2011. In 2012 I started to notice weight gain. I thought it was just me b/c I had not been going to the gym, since my shoulder injury. Finally decided last year, 2014,, I decided to go for a fill at the suggestion of my manager who had been banded as well. He actually had me to go to his Dr. Well long of the short, my first time going for a fill and they could not complete it. While under X-ray, it just wasnt working. Doc said I needed to have Laparoscopic surgery to see exactly what was wrong, he was leaning towards …

I was banded on 2-17. My doctor told me to go back to a regular diet after 1 week of clear liquids. I had a traumatic beginning, so I wonder why I was allowed back on normal food so quickly. I originally had the band along with gastric plication but my stomach stopped functioning and they had to remove the plication, so I spent 11 days in the hospital. Since having the plication removed, I feel as though I'm hungry all the time! I eat about a cup at a time but then an hour later, I'm hungry again. They won't do my first full until the 31st. I'm scared I spent all this money, time away from my 3 young children (4,2 &1) and went through all this pain for something that …

Hey all... I have failed. I had my operation in July and have had two fills since then. I originally lost weight but have been eating badly the last few months and have put the weight back on. I was scheduled to have another fill but I cancelled it because I was ashamed to face the facts. I told myself I will lose the weight first and then have another fill... I know I need one as I don't feel much restriction at all. Does anyone have any advice? I don't need any tough love at the moment to be honest, I feel pretty shit and am so angry at myself Thanks

Surgery went well. Ended up statying 6 hours due to O2 sats not coming back up but finally made it home! Gas pains trapped in my chest and left shoulder even today. I went back to work on Monday. I'm a nurse practitioner and round in the hospital and see patients in an office setting. I'm wiped out by the end of the day but I'm getting through it each day. No fills for me until stomach heals; another 3 weeks per my surgeon. I have been hungry since day one so I am really having a tough time. Praying this is all worth it and that I can handle it!

  15. So I've come to the end of my band journey ... and I am relived! The last few years have been pretty miserable and I hope my story can help someone else. I was banded in Aug 2007. GREAT results! I was very lucky and didn't have to mess w/ too many fills/unfills or have any complications. (that I knew of) Pre-op weight of 311 and low of 160 in under a year. I didn't maintain the 160 for long but was happy in the 175-190 range for a few years. I'm back up to 240 and feeling like a complete failure. I just had my band removed on Mon and I'm feeling pretty good. They used 2 of my old small incisions and had to open up the old port incision a bit. The port site is what's k…

  19. Hi everyone, I've done Atkins etc a few times before with great success. Usually I lose weight fairly quickly for at least the first 2-3 months. I just had my first fill after having my band empty for 5 years and the band is working great. I eat 1 cup per meal, Protein first and and then mostly green veggies. I stay under 20g carbs per day and that's mostly real/ not processed food ( no atkins bars etc). I lost 17.5 lbs during the first few weeks which was fantastic but for about 10 days now the scales have barely moved. I'm wondering if the small portions could actually slow weightloss down while low carbing? What were your experiences? I've tried a fat fast s…

So..I'm having a hard time breaking up with my fat jeans. These are the last pair I bought before surgery because all my other jeans were getting too tight. Because I don't work, I spend much of my time in shorts, PJ's, yoga pants or workout pants. For me, wearing jeans is almost like dressing up :-) These jeans are now huge on me. And of course that feels great, but every time I reach for jeans, these are the ones I grab. Want to grab. They look horrible on! I have no idea why I am holding onto them. Fear, I suppose. I don't even want to throw them away. Anyone else go through this?

  24. Hello everyone. Well today I had my first post-op DR apt following surgery. I found out I have a 10cc band and during surgery the Doctor filled it with 4cc. The NP went ahead and added another 1cc so now my band if filled with 5cc. She had a hard time finding my port. She had me lay, stand, finally she had me go in to the x-ray room. she was thinking it might have flipped. I was so scared I didn't know what to think. Once she was able to look at it, she said the port is tilted a bit. So the next time they fill my band, they will have to insert the needle at an angle not straight. I've never heard of this? Does anyone have a port that is tilted? She said it will just f…

This is all normal she tells me. The tricks I use she says keeps me mindful and diligent about how I have to eat in order to remain at this weight. She said it's likely that I may never be able to take food for granted and that if I try to deal with food like a person without food related issues, I might find myself in trouble again. I'm going July/August 2013, just waiting on final date. If anyone has been to Belgium I would love to hear their stories! I'm quite nervous as I've had high blood pressure for years and I'm concerned there will be damage to my liver/kidneys and he won't be able to do the surgery. I have been banded since 2007. Im down, right now, about 60 pounds, but that's because I have gained 20 since Thanksgiving. I was down a total of 80 pounds then. I need to get these 20 off, so I can fit in all my 10s again! Up to a 12 right now. My goal size is actually an 8. We will see. I asked a couple of questions, since I never really knew. I found out that I have an Inamed band - 14cc I had 7.5 ccs in it, and she filled me to 8.1 - does that seem like a lot or a little? Several years back, I was filled to 10ccs and had to have 2 taken out - I lost 9 pounds in a week! However, this is the first time I have ever felt some restriction right after a fill. I w…

  35. So I am about 5 months out of surgery and everything has been going really well. I have been out of the country for work and I couldn't go for a fill for 3 months now. The past month I have noticed that I have been hungrier and eating more food. I have been fairly strict on my diet and the types of food I eat, but I am still a bit worried that some old habits will start to creep in. How did your fills affect your level of restriction? Does it ever last for ever or does it seem to diminish after time and you start to get hungrier? Any insight would be really helpful.

  37. Hello all! I found this forum after doing some research and would like to get your input! I currently still have my band, though have had issues with it for many years. I was banded over 9 years ago. Several years back, my doctor over tightened my band to where I had horrible heartburn/reflux and could hardly eat. He took a good amount of Fluid out after an EGD and I haven't had it tightened since. I ended up re-gaining nearly 30lbs, though regained control of my weight. I am finally down to 142 (and still losing!) by going low carb and losing the remainder eating a keto adapted diet. If you're in the green zone, describe it here. Me: I can eat about a cup of solid food or a large salad. I chew it well and feel satisfied. If I don't chew meat really well or eat too fast, I get immediately stuck and that's the end of the meal. I can get stuck even on lunch meat eaten too fast. As long as I don't snack between meals, I have no stomach hunger for at least four hours. If I'm "hungry" before four hours, it's probably anxiety, boredom, or another emotion. If I snack between meals it messes up that satisfied feeling and I'm looking for food all day. I'm happier with healthier foods now that I am in the green. My latest favorite is kale salad wi…

Jut checking in. I'm down about 50lbs but have not been working the band the last 2 weeks and have not lost much weight which is all my doing, not my band. Otherwise I have not had any complications and I feel so much lighter and healthier since my initial weight loss. I had a first goal of 50lbs. I now am going to do it 10lbs at a time since my weight is not coming off as quickly. I have about 60 more to get to my doctor's goal for me of 200lbs. I'm not sure what my goal should be. According to BMI charts I should be about 155 so that would be another 105lbs. Wow that sounds overwhelming!!!

I have an appointment scheduled soon but I was wondering if anyone can help me through this and/or has any information for me till I get to the doctor.
