I finally got my insurance approval only to find out that my surgeon's hospital doesn't have availability until March! So now I'm scheduled for my band on March 6, 2013. I've been doing a pre-op diet of 2 shakes and one small meal per day since Jan 2. So far only a couple mis-steps but I'm really looking forward to having the band as a tool to help me out. And I look forward to chatting with other March Bandsters!

I have a really weird question. I thought I read somewhere that people who have WLS should not chew gum. Is this true? I can't imagine never chewing gum again...just a thought I had.

Hi there, Had to have half my Fluid removed due to acid reflux and now have crazy chronic diarrhea. It was really bad the first few days, then got a little better, and now my stool is soft again and the stomach cramps are back. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this just my stomach adjusting? Or is this something else. Would love advice from someone BTDT. Thanks!

I am 10 days post op. I am now in the soft food stage. I am starving out of my mind and cannot stand to eat the limited soft foods that are on my list. I have cheated and have eaten regular food such as a little bit of pot roast and even a few chips. I thought I wasn't going to be hungry. Whats The worst that can happen from eating some solid foods???

I have discovered that those banded by TLBC (pre - Fall of 2008) are no longer receiving treatment from Slimband who took over the TLBC patients. I signed up for a lifetime program of fills, defills & corrections if necessary but now I have been completely cut off of any and all support. I am looking for any former staff (I spoke to one nurse) who were "let go/fired" by Slimband but can atest to the fact that TLBC did agree to a lifelong support system & that patients such as myself were not informed of any changes to our agreement when Slimband took over. I hope to hear from someone soon. Anna

I gained 4 lbs....I am thinking it's my own fault...I mean the lapband didn't do anything different. Now I have to figure out what I did wrong and Why and admit to myself so I can get past it. I am grieving over the unexpected loss of my dad 4 months ago. NO that is NO excuse to eat wrong/more but it doesn't mean I listened.. My PCOS also hampers weight loss, it makes it much slower/harder than normal. Again NOT an excuse. I admit, I have done something...too many calories? I ate too much? Do we calorie count? I know I ate too much at Easter dinner because I felt So FULL for hours and hours and I felt gross...I am trying to keep that memory alive so I don't repe…

Being a good ole southern boy my one vice is sweet tea. I have been able to transition to using splenda so there are no calories but I struggle with avoiding drinking tea with my meals. I'm just so used to it that I find myself doing it unconsciously. Anyone else struggle with this?

Hello fellow bandsters! Hope everyone is doing well and wishing everyone a happy week! I am scheduled for my 2nd fill this week (on Weds). I am hoping this will help me with satiety because I am still struggling with not snacking in between meals and also with portions. I definitely feel no restriction at this point. I am continuing to be patient. I have started back at the gym and am working on getting into a min. 3x week and eventual goal to go back to 5 days a week. I gained back 2 pounds that I had lost after my first fill. I know this is a lifestyle so I am taking it one day at time, making small changes so eventually they become lifelong habits. :)

PHILIPPINES LOCAL LAP-BAND SUPPORT (yay!) Hey there! I am Oscar Lopez and I have been reading posts in different forums here in lapbandtalk.com. I was looking for a local support forum for Filipinos who have been banded and those who intend to undergo the surgery, but to my dismay, I failed to see any. It's disappointing considering that we have the best health care professionals around and we have the best hospitals in Asia. Well, here it is! Share your thoughts and tell us your story. For a starter, maybe you can post the following details (since these are the FAQs): For Banded: 1. When did you undergo surgery? 2. Who was your doctor and where was it …

Hi there, I used to do fasting from time to time -- as a liver cleanse but of course I was always hoping to lose weight (was a professional dieter but no more!). Since being banded I haven't done anything like that but as spring arrives I'm thinking I could benefit from some cleansing. It was a long winter. And I'd like to notch myself down into the next drop in weight -- maybe a fast woukd trigger that. Any banders out there who have done this? I used to kick off with the whole Epsom then grapefruit olive oil thing then go into juices. I would not be hungry now so that's not a worry. I'm thinking it could reboot my system a bit -- sort of like the five-day pouch t…

I used to be at 6.0 (in a 10cc band). I had some removed in November as I was uber tight for a long time and PB-ing nearly every meal and not keeping meds down (leading to inflamed esophagus). When I went for unfill, there was actually 6.2cc in there (no wonder I was so tight). We removed 0.6 setting me at 5.6cc. I am now too loose. I am not getting that feel of satiety so my portions are getting bigger and bigger and I am feeling hungry faster between meals. I have gained 10lbs. That being said, I still PB some days... Not sure what triggers, just feeling tight, maybe stress, maybe allergy sinus drainage, etc. I have an appt booked for a refill. 6.0 was a litt…

Well I finally had another fill almost two weeks ago, and I may be exactly where I need to be. This last fill really changed everything. Before the fill I could eat steady as long as I ate slow enough. Now things have changed.....a lot! No huge gulps of Water. Or anything for that matter! And warm drinks are way more agreeable with my band than cold. Eating so much slower. Still trying to figure this one out. Seems like I eat too fast....occasional burps! Hiccups are my new warning bell. It means I am full. My gut knows it, but it has to chime in so my head gets it. No meals till mid day, and what I can eat from day to day varies like the weather. This road is di…

First day of liquid diet. Fell off the wagon a long time ago becuz I couldn't get to ONEderland. It deterred me from trying anymore to lose weight. I have gained 30 lbs back in the past few yrs and I have been lazy and not exercising. I have started back with the exercising with swimming and weight room. I love to swim and love pumping iron and it makes me feel better and happy but with not following the rules aint losing any weight. Forgot how hard it is to do a liquid diet. I already have the chills and now drinking hot tea to try and warm my body up. Maybe I need to eat some more cream of broccoli soup. lol So I am asking any of the other Bandsters if they ha…

I have the hardest time eating in public. I feel like the wait staff is hovering over me because I keep laying my utensils down and am eating so slowly. I'm always in fear of a pb. And even if things go smoothly, I often need to burp. Do others relate, or am I too tight? Your thought?

I am 5 1/2 years post op. I lost 120 lbs and have kept it off. Have always been very careful and taken care of my band. About 6 weeks ago, got a stomach virus and threw up several times in a 12 hour period. Afterward, couldn't get any solids down, liquids were a struggle. I figured I had some inflammation so went to thin liquids for a few days and was able to get those down. I called my surgeon's office and they could see me in 4 weeks...yes 4 weeks. I made the appt, still having difficulty, reflux at night, etc. Over the 4 weeks the issues resolved, no more reflux, eating and drinking fine. Since I was still just a little tight in the mornings, I kept the appt. …

Hi, I am going to be having surgery in about 1 1/2 weeks and trying to get some advice with other guys who have had it done. What was your experience after surgery in regards to the diet and exercise? I am in need of loosing 50 lbs to be at my goal weight . I am wondering if anyone has experience visible ports or complications. For the past 3 weeks I have been eating small meals and working out in order to get a head start. I have lost 15 lbs but not sure if I should go forward with the surgery or not just a bit worried. Any comments will help. Thanks. Cesar

The directions from my clinic say to consume 25 gr of Benifiber a day. I am still on pre op diet (surgery 4/16/15) and my body won't tolerate that much Benifiber. Horrible you know what for a day. The directions on the package say 2tsp=3gr Fiber. Thus by my calculations that's 17tsp's of Benifiber a day. I divided that amount equally between two 32oz Water bottles so that I would be getting on my 64 oz of water a day. Anyone else take Benifiber in pre op and post op phases? How much Benifiber do you take?

I went to the cafeteria at work yesterday and just didn't feel like having a salad or half a sandwich as I usually do. I took a little bit of what they called a 'BLT salad', which was all the fixings without the bread..lettuce, tomato, bacon bits, mayo. Then I took a slice of pizza. Now...living in NYC, you may know that we eat thin crust pizza here. And when I say thin crust..a good slice of NY pizza is really thin. So this slice I took at work was supposed to be thin crust, but was doughier than what I'm used to. I ate the salad and then ate the pizza slice and about a half hour later, it was laying in my belly like a brick. I felt so uncomfortably full that I was…

I had lap-band surgery in November 2014 and have been receiving small, monthly fills. My last one was about a month ago and really seems to have gotten me to that coveted green zone. I usually don't eat until a shake around lunch time, although for business lunches will order fish, which usually works for me. Today's lunch was salmon and I had an embarrassing PB episode after just a few small bites. The thing is, I can't keep liquids down since then. It doesn't feel like anything is stuck in there, so this is a whole new thing for me. Could this be a slip? Or maybe it's just inflamed and should improve enough to drink Water by morning? Anyone else experience somet…

Went for my fill today and the doctor was asking me if I wanted 1cc or .5. I asked him for his advice. He said, "Well are you hungry?" I had to think about it for a NY second (that's all I got bc I am in NYC) and the word Yes came out but I can't really say that I'm hungry all the time. I find I'm eating because I want to. And how do we get over that???

Feel free to move this post where it's supposed to go, Yesterday my Dad suffered a massive heart attack and died he would have been 62 next month. He was not obese, in fact he was strong, ate healthy and wore a 30 pant size, I looked, I looked at the discarded pants laying by the couch, he was always tiny. Why does this matter? I don't know, I don't know anything anymore. He was so proud I was losing weight, he was going to take me shopping. I just miss my Dad, I am the only child everyone is asking me all these questions, where when how what, I'm 38 but I don't feel old enough to do this.

My issue is i leave in May for 10wks.. going home to Ireland and i know they will want me to get at least half the Fluid removed before i go .. i'm worried. that with little to no weight loss these past 6 mts that i will gain.. has any o…

I had my band done on 03/24/2010. I was and still very happy with the decision. But about three years I had all my fluid taking out due to health complications one which cause pneumonia. But even while getting my health back on track I was working out and eating healthy and maintaining my weight. Well this last year I was again faced with some health issues and have now gained about 50lbs due to medicines. And I'm struggling to get back down. I have debated over and over again about if I should a get a fill again. Because honestly Im a little hesitant due to at one point I was over filled which cause my first set of issues. I did the lap band for the reason to have adjust…

Hello, I have had my band for almost 2 years. Things have been going well until a few months ago. I started noticing that it feels like there is something stuck in my throat, and I really need to swallow it! It can happen any time of day, and I am concerned that it is band related. I recently moved to a new state and just established care with a primary physician and mentioned it to her and she gave me the "it's all in your head" look. I've read that it could be related to reflux and that concerns me as that has never been an issue for me. I truly can feel something in the back of my throat, but no matter how many times I swallow, it won't go down. I should also mention…

I have been on a very strict low carb low sugar diet since rededicating myself at the first of the year. At first I had all the side effects Dizziness moodiness (outright rage sometimes) and utter exhaustion. I pushed through it and now I am discovering that I don't really crave it anymore and my energy levels are soaring. A month ago just walking down the hall at work at a fairly slow pace I would get out of breath. Today I had to slow down so another guy could keep up with me and I was breathing normally! Then I was faced with a challenge. Some people were in from out of town and wanted to have lunch at an awesome mexican restaurant (Chuy's). I ordered a taco salad (les…

I found out last week my surgery was approved after 5 months of nutitional counseling and psych visit. I go for my upper GI this week and then to the surgeon on April 13 to schedule surgery. I have told a few of the girls I work with that I am planning on doing this. A couple of them had daughters that have been banded. My husband is kind of supportive. He says whatever I want to do but Im not planning on telling my parents they wouldn't understand why I can't just buckle down and loss weight. As we all know we have tried multiple times. So I would love to have someone that has struggled with obesity for years to help me as I start this journey.. I have read multiple bo…

I don't sign in here very often, but since it had been awhile, I thought I'd check in. It's a year ago this month, that I had my last fill. That last one was so restrictive, I have not wanted to get another. Maybe I should go for a check, but I don't know that I want more added. I only managed to lose about 20lbs since that fill. I wonder if this happens to others. I lose 2-3lbs, then gain a little back at "that time of the month", after that, I may lose a little but then it remains the same weight for several days, before starting to lose again. It is very, slow. It's like two steps forward, one step back (that kind of thing). It is frustrating, but, as long as I keep…
