Right after surgery, everybody looses weight...lap band or no, we are on a strict post-op diet starting with Clear liquids and slowly progressing. Who wouldn't loose weight? And yet people give credit to the band. At this stage, the Lap Band is doing nothing, IMO....it was installed and nothing more.(there are a FEW EXCEPTIONS...very few) And let's face it...people who have much to loose, will loose more than the next person not quite so heavy. So when someone says "I Lost 50 lbs, blah blah blah, the next person should not feel bad only loosing 10lbs. I know people who could loose 50lbs if they skipped dinner! (only joking) There are people here who start at 400lb…

First of all, let me say that I have not done as well with the lap band as I wanted to, but the band is only a tool and I haven't used my tool as wisely as I should have by making poor food choices. I'm trying to get back on track and recently got a fill, I have been unable to get very many fills over the past year due to changing of jobs. I have a 14 cc band and prior to this last fill, I have had restriction, but just not as much as I felt like I needed and never felt I was in the green zone. I know it is different for everyone. My recent fill put me to 7 ccs in my 14 cc band and my nurse told me to be very careful and that I should feel that satisfied feeling after…

I met with my surgeon team today I am one month post surgery. At the beginning I felt restriction, clearly due to swelling. 2 weeks ago at my last appointment I was advised "the next 2 weeks will be hell" my appetite will return and it's the time I need to monitor how long I feel "satiety" until the next meal. The goal 4 hours. Basically I am able to go the 4 hrs but as suspected I was able to eat over a cups worth of food. I was very cognizant of what I ate. My portions have decreased tremendously and I'm the last to finish eating. Upon weigh in today I was down 3 more lbs since 2 weeks ago. We spoke of fills but I was unsure I needed one because clearly I was able to go…

I am post by 7 days. The day after surgery, I went to the ER for intense chest pains. These still reside. I don't get full, instead I eat until I start feeling the chest pains and stop. I'm still hungry but in pain. Is this normal? Is full a feeling that needs to be learned after a few bites? I'm lost. What have you done for the reflux?

Hi all. I was banded 6 weeks ago. I've lost 20 lbs but still have 55 to go. I've been using myfitnesspal and fitBit as some tools and so far it's been good. Only thing I hate is the excessive gas I always have. I've received a lot of judgement from friends about getting the band since I was 215 lbs starting... But they can F off. I don't judge them for the drastic decisions they make so they should support me. Pisses me off. Really just gives me more fuel to lose weight and show them that they are wrong. Anyway looking to reach out for support since I'm obviously not getting it through my friends. My family has been very supportive though.

The greatest advice I ever got was "the band is just a tool"'and ain't that the truth. my band is at a perfect fill right now, so why cant I feel motivated to work out or even eat right? I'm almost pre-op weight and lightbulb hit when I was the on the plane the other day and I couldn't buckle the belt. same thing happened before I got the band. anyone have any "back to basic" advice? this morning going to grab the greek yogurt, Vitamin drink etc and hopefully do liquids for maybe a couple days? thoughts?

  17. Howdy all, I have finally decided to take control of my diet, my future and my life by getting my Band fitted. I'm due for the op on 14th March and would love to hear from others about their outlooks, concerns and coping strategies. I'm so excited about what the future holds but I'd be lying if I told you that I wasn't nervous about what the road has in store ahead. Anyway enough of my ramblings if you want to get in touch then please feel free and a huge congratulations to all of you who have done so well with your inspiring stories and good luck to everyone else who's just starting out xx

Anyhow, I did an endoscopy and fluoroscopy and was told that I have a "small gastric pouch, which is stable" with a "stable tilted appearance compared to the 2012 fluoroscopy exam". They state right up front that they are not nutritionists, which I appreciate, but they did tell me how much Protein I need to get in on a daily basis while doing this program as well as an increased amount on days that I work out. Has anyone else seen this? Based on their calculations, on workout days I would need to get 100 grams of protein. Is there such a thing as too much protein? Just curious. I see my doc next week so I will ask them as well.

I planted them about 3 1/2 weeks ago. I am already eating lettuce wraps and will soon start to harvest enough lettuce for a small salad. I hate storebought lettuce, It can be difficult to buy a small enough amount (I live alone) and it doesn't stay fresh enough to suit me. I've never grown the tomatoes before, but I refuse to buy storebought tomatoes from Florida and so I'm doing them instead of herbs this year. Maybe next year I'll get a third garden. I can't eat, don't feel hungry (????) but I can't really drink much either. I can sip liquids. Warm liquids are easier. If I take more than a sip, I get pain, hick ups and belch. 34. My BMI is currently 34 - 36, depending on the chart, with my insurance company requiring a minimum BMI of 35, plus at least 1 co-morbidity. Is there an "official BMI chart" somewhere? The one that keeps coming up when I Google it is a Metlife chart from 1999. Coverage details the insurance company sent me seem a bit nebulous (I imagine that's not an accident). Since I'm right at their 35+ BMI requirement, would they fault me for not losing and/or gaining weight during their required 6-month supervised diet and exercise program? Did I mention how excited I am that the past 22 years of documented Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, etc. failures, with weigh…

Hey all my Canadian banders... So I was wondering if anyone knows if you can claim any part of your surgery on your income tax? I looked into this prior to having my surgery and was told by the Canadian Revenue Agency that lap band surgery is a form of cosmetic surgery so it cannot be claimed. I live in Ontario and I just wanted to know if anyone could offer me any further information about this. My surgery came with a hefty price tag and it would be nice to get something back. I thought it was worth a try:) Hope someone has some recommendations.

I am terribly, woefully out of shape. I have never been an active person. Growing up I always preferred curling in bed with a book than I did any outdoor activity, let alone exercise. I am an august baby so I adore swimming but I find it hard to use swimming as an exercise. And I've read conflicting articles on its effectiveness for actively losing weight. Anyway, I decided to look into some of the area gyms around me. I've used a treadmill and an elliptical in the past, but that is it. My only form of day-to-day movement is walking to pick my son up from school, but it has been so cold these last couple of weeks that I have barely done even that. And the scale re…

My first fill was 2 CC and I was primed with 1CC during my procedure. I had 5 fills in between then and now. I only lost another 15 and gained 5 back even though I felt like I was eating way less. I realized i had been misleading my Dr., unintentionally. I had been telling them what I was eating. Not what I was capable of eating. When I was discouraged, my portions became larger as I started to give up and not watch what I was putting in my mouth. Had I been more forthcoming with what I…

We went out to dinner for the 1st time since surgery and went to a restaurant that we would normally wait for a table as the booths are so small and it'd be a very tight fit. Well I didn't even think about it until I went to sit and there was plenty of room to spare! I was so shocked I didn't have to try to wiggle my way in and pretend I was fine. Good evening! I have to share something that I think is going to be horrific to banders. I HAVE to sip water when I eat to prevent getting stuck. Even chewing thoroughly doesn't help. I have to add water to moisten the food. My question is....is this like a really bad thing? Like am I starting a bad habit?? Or is this ok? Does this mean I am too tight? I don't slime or anything, I just really had an awful month where I got stuck horribly and was vomiting, felt like I was dying and so I developed this thing of sipping warmter with my food to moisten it. I definitely did not hold back this week and still managed to lose .5kg bringing my total to 17.6kg lost. As I said, I did not hold back one bit and enjoyed all kinds of food and wine - just a lot less volume than I would've consumed 6 months ago. I think this may be what I love most about the lap-band. There really is no restriction to what you eat just the amount of it. I still need to enjoy life and the band allows me to do this. I had so much energy for t…
