I remember so vividly the times, when I had dieted before and my family would say "you're too skinny!". I never believed them. It was not until I gained it all back that I did. Some people look at me now and say "You don't need weight loss surgery". I love it when people assume before knowing "My story".
I remember as a you child, I was rather slender, with long legs and torso. I was always thicker through the middle. I have a memory of looking at my inner thighs as a preteen, thinking that they were growing closer and closer to be able to "hug each other". At 11, when puberty hit, I started to balloon. Going into college, I started at 198 lbs. They talk about the fresh 15, well, mine was 40 lbs (at least). Oh the "delicious" cafeteria food, late night pizza's delivered to the dorm room, 2 lt. sodas that disappeared as quickly as they arrived. Oh, the laziness and not wanting to go to the gym that I could see from across the road. Oh the scale is creeping up and up. Oh, what am I going to do (and when am I going to start doing something about it).
After graduation, I moved back with my parents for a short while. Losing quite a bit, simply from being away from all of that kind of food. I still hung around 200 for several years. In October of 2005, I really took the bull by the horns and joined Weight Watchers. I was rather successful. I got down to 168 (lowest weight I remember seeing on that scale). In 2007, I had my first real (so I thought) heartbreak and put on 50 lbs. All I did was lay on the couch, depressed, unmotivated and hungry for junk.
In January 2011, I heard from a co-worker, about a Dr. who prescribes appetite suppressants. I made my appointment and within three months, I lost 30 lbs. I hit a plateau and was tired of the mood effects that the medication caused. Not to mention the hot flashes.
In 2012, I became pregnant and developed Gestational Diabetes. I was insulin dependent. In 2014, a nurse at my doctors office noticed that no one had have (including myself) followed up to see if I was still diabetic. In August, I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes, High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol. GEEZ!!! The medications I had to take filled my kitchen counter and they were not just one pill per bottle. It was 2 here, 2 there, 2x daily and a 3rd on every other Sunday.
I was not going to live my life like that! Or risk leaving my son without a mother.
My willpower to stay on program was null. I would last a week and be back to ordering out for every meal with my co-workers.
So, one day in September 2014, I was sitting on the couch, probably eating and say a commercial for True Results. It literally spoke to me, because I talked it over with my husband (the decision ultimately my own) and booked my appointment. I med with my advisor/advocate and reviewed my options. Because I was not ok with removing a perfectly good organ, she suggested not only a lap band, but what they call the "iband". Yes, I thought I could sync it with my IPAD, but no its actually the lapband placed just above a sutured stomach (imitating the sleeve)
The surgery was done on 12/31/2014. I have lost a few lbs in the days since. My first follow up appointment is today (1/12/15). My first fill will be on the 29th of this month.

I choose to keep the procedure private to only my family and select friends and to the public who doesn't personally know me. The only way others in my life would find out is if they came across my page or Youtube vids.

I found BariatricPal doing my quest of POST OP answers. I worry about band slippage and anything else that can go wrong. I find that reading about other peoples experiences, help me to know about my own. For example, Where is my port? I personally cannot find my own port yet. I found that I wasn't the only one with the same question. I also learned that as the weigh comes off, its more noticeable. I also had questions about scaring and HUNGER. I really like the app, I put it on my ipad as I had ran out of space on my Android lol.
