Doesn't matter to me that we're in the midst of the holiday season. I know I won't overeat at functions because I hardly ever did even when I was obese. I'm a 'secret' eater. I don't/didn't eat to excess while out in the public. I certainly didn't want to bring even more negative attention to myself by having people see me eat everything in sight. No....I hid that. I couldn't hide the weight gain obviously, but I hid the consumption. I'd go out to dinner, eat 'normally' and then finish my leftovers as soon as I got home....oh and keep eating while I was at it. I've already been to several holiday functions since Thanksgiving and haven't gained an ounce. Why not?…

Hi, I'm 3 months into my 6 month requirement for getting the LapBand. I am generally healthy though my BMI 40.09. Including 2 pregnancies, I've never had hypertension, diabetes, heart or lung issues, sleep apnea, etc. However, I fear that once I get the band, I'll have a complication like slippage or something else they may be triggered by getting the band. I know it seems strange to have this sort of fear but has anyone with zero medical issues pre-op developed regretful post-op issues?

I'm struggling with how I feel like I should be eating vs what I'm able to eat and what I read on here from some people. As a lifelong dieter, I'm accustomed to the idea of smallish Protein servings along with heaps of veggies to fill up on. I recognized early on in the consultation process that this is not how I would be eating once banded. Instead, it would be small protein (properly cooked to be soft), eaten first, then a small serving of veggies and starch to round out my plate. Well, I have yet to eat any real portion of veggies. I find almost all of them difficult to eat unless they are boiled to death. Are you eating veggies? How? Which ones? I miss my …

Had my lapband in 2005 and since then and still to this day I keep having hair loss. It falls out quicker than it grows in. My hair is dry, and very ugly. I don't take vitimans like I should but what would be the best route to go? Even when I took my vitimans regular it did nothing good for my hair. I am sick of my scalp showing plus the sides as well. Can anyone help me pls? Thank you

I've kept a food journal many times before. I particularly love MyFitnessPal for food and meal tracking for calories, macro-nutrients, etc. However, I'm now wanting to keep track TIME as well - of when I eat, and when I get hungry after I eat - to better gauge how well my band is working for me. Does anyone do this in an organized way or with a specific app? Would love to know calories and volume of food and then know how long that kept me satiated... with all the graphs and fun stuff that other apps do with calories and so forth, only with the time element added in.

So I jumped on the scales this morning for my weekly weigh-in. They did jump around a little to show a loss of either 0 or .6kg (600g). I am taking the .6kg. At first I was a little disappointed with this, but I need to embrace that slowly but surely is the key to success. So I've turned my frown upside down and am ecstatic with my total loss of 10.7kg... That's 23.5lb for those that don't use metric (sounds better too). I am also doing pretty well with my first fill that I had on Monday, I'm still in the soft food phase and have been chewing everything so so slowly. I haven't experienced any stuck episodes yet which I am totally thankful for. Have a great day …

Hi!! I was banded on 11/12 and I haven't had my first fill yet. The other day I had some string cheese and I felt stuck. I didn't throw up or regurgitate. Then that night and for the last two nights I've been experiencing coughing after dinner and night time cough. I haven't had any reflux or anything to go with it. Did I slip my band? I'm calling the doctors office in the morning, but I just wanted some advice so I don't worry the whole night

Just checking in to see how others are doing? My total loss (pre-op included) is 26 lbs. part of me feels that it should be more, the rest of me feels that it's a perfectly normal and safe amount to be down. I've had 1 fill so far, having my next one in December. I've thrown up once so I know that the band is working as I was getting doubtful. I have energy back to do stuff and feel thankful for that alone. I'm not eating the proper things or in the manner I was told to all the time but want to. I just have to be patient and follow the rules. Hope you are doing well in your own journeys!

So I've lost 100+ and I've been doing really good till my band got so tight from eating the wrong foods. I noticed I was throwing up my liquids too and there were partical like coffee grains. I did a little research and even called my clinic and it was blood. That problem got fixed after I got my band loosen up, from (10cc to 6ccs). After 2 months I went back to get fills (8ccs) and I'm not even as tight as I was that one time and my band is tight again and I'm struggling getting liquid in and when I throw up occassionally in the day I see the dry blood again. I have an appt in a few minutes to get it back to 6cc or whatever they recommend to let it heal again. Has this…

Lapband 09/20/2012. I just had a upper GI and found that I have a slip on 10/28/14. I think this lapband slipped last year in 2013 about March but my doctor would not perform any testing procedure despite my complaints. I finally went to a new doctor because I was not happy and have been at a scale stall for one year despite regular exercise and one cup meal plan. I am going to the new lapband doctor to see what can be done. I would like the revision to the sleeve so that means going for an approval with my insurance company. I am down 55 lbs and have 25 to goal. I have a BMI of 28 and weight is about 158-160lbs and I am 5.2" tall

I see a lot of people say they have problems with throwing up. Since I've been banded 5/14, I haven't thrown up at all but I've "spit up" a lot. I consider spitting up is what happens when you swallow too quickly/don't chew well enough/eat too fast. The food doesn't make it through the band and as such, doesn't have any stomach gases which makes it not painful. Does this all make sense? Or am I the odd one. Sometimes. if I drink too fast it will come up and still be as warm/cold as when I swallowed it. I don't consider this throwing up, since it never really went anywhere. I'm confused as to what to tell the dr when he asks if I've thrown up. I just got a couple slight u…

Interesting invention by the food Scientists: " LONDON (Reuters) - British scientists have developed an ingredient that makes foods more filling, and say initial tests in overweight people showed that it helped prevent them gaining more weight. The ingredient, developed by researchers at London's Imperial College and at the University of Glasgow, contains propionate, a natural substance that stimulates the gut to release hormones that act on the brain to reduce hunger. Propionate is produced naturally when Fiber in the diet is fermented by microbes in the gut, but the new ingredient, inulin-propionate ester (IPE), provides much larger amounts of propionate than peo…

So today is my week 2 weigh in day and my loss for this week is.... 2.7kg!!! I am beyond thrilled as this takes my grand total to 10.1kg. I've done many diets over the years and I have not reached a 10kg total loss for about 20 years so this is a massive achievement for me. Week 2 also marks the beginning of the soft food phase for me. I am currently enjoying scrambled eggs with some cheese and tomato chopped up in it. As it has been 5 weeks since I've eaten anything remotely like this - they are the best scrambled eggs I have ever eaten in my entire life... So Happy Thursday everyone and enjoy!!! livelovelapband.blogspot.com.au

I had my first fill today. I was 3 wks post op on Thursday of last week so now about 3.5 wks. The fill went with no problems. Put in 2 cc. Late this evening I developed an itchy, raised rash over most of my stomach. I haven't changed detergent/soap or tried any new food. Could this be related somehow to my fill? I took benadryl and put hydrocortisone cream on and the itchiness is better but the rash is still there. It isn't any worse and only on my belly. I plan to call doctor in the morning. Any thoughts?

I am so bummed out. 2 years of educating and preparing my self went up in smoke. Lap band was placed 11/12/14, by Christopher Reilly at West Houston Medical Center. Felt great, no complaints, first real issues with pain started on Saturday after regional anesthetic wore off. Experienced an episode of dry heaving, and what I've read that sounded like a stuck episode , after coughing on juice. Things started going down hill. Started with fever and chills Tuesday evening. Called the Surgeons office and was instructed to go to ER. Blood work revealed sepsis. WBC'S 21,000, Fever 103, heart rate 140's, severe diffuse abdominal pain and distention. CT scan didn't give…

Hello there I am 29 and have been banded for 2 and a half years, I have lost 115 pounds since, I still have a lot more to loose. Looking to get back in the saddle and finish what I started. I live in San Antonio and would love to meet someone who lives here as well to actually possibly hang out and work out with. Not opposed to anyone out of state either for texting, facebook and My Fitness Pal. Is it just me or did that totally sound like dating personal hahahaha.

Hello everyone, I am looking for some advice/support on having my band removed. I was originally banded in 2007 at 319 lbs. I lost 30 lbs to get the band. After it was placed my lowest weight was 275 about 5 months after surgery. Over the next 7 years I gained all of my weight back and then some. I got back up to 330 lbs. Until November of last year I decided to change my lifestyle and eat healthier, exercise etc., I am now 250 lbs and working hard every day to keep the weight off. I have been experiencing all kinds of stomach issues and had all the tests done, endoscopy, upper GI etc. the fluid has been removed from my band but apparently my band is fine. …

Hi!! I had my lapband back in 2008 after I had my 1st child and was really struggling to get pregnant again and lose weight..had my lap band and I lost about 50 pounds then got pregnant back to back and now ever since then I've really struggled to find that happy fill place again and start losing weight. I have really bad back problems on top of that and get steroid/cortisone injections every 3-5 months so it makes working out really hard at times due to bad back/leg pain. I would just love some suggestions on great receipes that anyone likes that fill you up and maybe just a great friend to talk to about the lap band! I don't have but 1 local friend who was banded but s…

Hi kids, well I am 2 days post-op and I am feeling pretty sore and sorry for myself. Everything went really well and my surgeon was really pleased with how it all went. The anaesthetic made me a bit nauseous for a while but we got rid of that and now the healing begins. I can't drive or do much exercise for a few days yet, but that will all come in good time. I know the real journey is just beginning and I'm really looking forward to it. My very good friend that stayed at the hospital right throughout my surgery has taken some pictures for me and I'll post them soon. I have noticed that having milk in my tea isn't sitting very well just yet so I'll be having br…

I had my lap band surgery on October 9th, 2012! The surgery and recovery went very well, but the year with the lap band wasn’t fun for me. I threw up once or twice every day with lots of mucus. I kept my lap band on for the year, hoping and praying that it would get better and it didn’t. The typical response that I received was that I wasn't chewing long enough but I was. The doctor decided that it would be a good idea to take all the saline out of my band and see how I was feeling after. After having the saline removed and still having the same problems. The doctor decided to do another scope. During the scope, he discovered that I had ulcers in my esophagus. T…

It has been just about a year since I visited this site. That date coincides with having my band removed for medical reasons. I am not writing this post to "bash" the band. I am thankful for my opportunity to lose weight with my band, and to get my life back. I wanted to let others know that should they have the misfortune of having to have their band removed, it is not the end of your healthier life. I wanted to share my experiences, as I know what an emotional journey it has been for me, and to perhaps inspire others to never give up on themselves. Unlike many others who opted to revise to another WLS, I chose to not have a revision because my PCP advised me to give …

I was getting my first fill 6 weeks post-surgery. The doctor said he was giving me a 1.5 fill. I was lying on the table and he had me sit partially up a few time to help him find my port. He then inserted the needle. It was in there quite a while and burned a little bit. He then withdrew it and then reinserted in and said something like “that’s it.” It burned a bit again. Then I felt liquid oozing on me and the doctor said “Don’t worry, it is not coming from you. I just had extra liquid.” The needle felt like it was still in me when this happened. After I saw the needle was out, I asked if any liquid got into me and he said “yes, I just had extra liquid.” After…

It's been 9 months and I only have 3.6cc. I don't feel like there is much restriction, haven't lost weight in couple months now. Getting pretty frustrated about this.

I can't believe that it's already been 6 days since my lap-band surgery. I'm doing really well, still a bit sore but that is only at the port site, and I had been warned about that. I also get a fair bit of gas pain, but that is also to be suspected too. The hardest thing for me at the moment is the fluid diet. Living on juice, smoothies and soup is really very difficult and I can totally see how some people weaken at this point and eat solid food before the band has had time to settle. The thought of all the money that I've spent and that I have come this far already without doing the wrong thing is enough for me to continue on. I have one more week of fluids an…

Hi all... Looking for some assistance on how I can best support a friend.... My friend is having lap band surgery and I don't know the best way to be supportive. Certainly, I have, and will continue, to listen when she needs to talk, but I'm not sure if there's something *I* should be asking or doing. Is there anything you wish someone had done for you? Something you wish they hadn't? Any help you can offer that can help me be the best friend I can would be greatly appreciated!

I've made an appointment with my GP to have this checked out, but wanted to see what the hivemind has to say about my situation while I wait to be seen. I know dumping syndrome is more common to other WLS (e.g., sleeve, bypass, etc) but I think I'm experiencing this now, 20 months post-op. For the past five days, about an hour after I eat, my heartbeat becomes irratic and heartrate increases (pulse 130). It's similar to heart palpitations in that I can feel the extra (or delayed) heartbeat and the racing heart. I have no dizziness, no chest pain, no confusion. I've been tracking these episodes and they consistently occur after eating, even if it is just a yogurt and …
