Hi all in the NYC area! I have recently reached my goal weight after 15 months being banded, and wanted to recommend my surgeon to anyone in the NYC area. His name is Dr. Marc Bessler and he is at Columbia University Medical Center. He is simply an expert in bariatric surgery, and extremely honest with patients. His administrative office team is extremely efficent with the insurance process and will guide you along the way to make sure you have met all requirements prior to submission. His NP, Eileen, and RD, Nancy will prepare you with the tools you need pre and post band. While Columbia isn't in the most convenient location, it will be well worth it!

ystdy I had my pre-surgery wellness appt with my new surgical group, Bluepoint Surgical Group in NoVa. I was so impressed with the comprehensive meetings with the behavior specialist, dietician, & exercise physiologist. BP seems to be a very well-oiled machine. I'm so glad I switched to this group for my 2nd try for approval. Dr. Halmi is da bomb! (not affiliated)

Since this ones not here I had to throw it into the batch. I have had a fair pre op experience but so far very limited for what I expected from all the forums here. My RNY date is August 18th 2014 so if you come across this in the future and want to know how it all went down just drop me a line.

Has anyone ever got denied surgery from any of the Kaisers in southern california? and if so why did you get denied. The reason im asking is because im quite scared that they will not give me surgery because i am on week 10 of the options classes and have not lost any weight. My weight fluctuates, it goes up and down, but never past my first weigh in.. Back at week 4, I had an appointment with sarah turner an MD from the metabolic center and she told me if i didnt lose weight that the surgeons wont operate on me. I find this dissatisfying because throughout the whole options classes they did not tell anyone that they would have to lose a set amount of pounds such as a cer…

Hi all. My aunt is 55 and inquired about the surgery to her general doctor since I am having it. I'm 28 and he basically said to her he wouldn't recommend it since she's 55. I know people that are older that have had it. Is this normal??? I think she should totally have it. She definitely qualifies. And can anyone recommend a good surgeon in the ft lauderdale area? Thank you!

Hi! Are there any previous or current patients of Drs. Marema and Koppleman (US Bariatrics) in St Augustine, FL? I really wanted my surgery to be performed by either Tiffany Jesse or Robin Ache (Suncoast Bariatrics) but Palms of Pasadena Hospital is no longer a United Healthcare Bariatrics Center of Excellence. They said this is currently affecting about 30% of their patients. I don't like Tampa General so I opted to go to Dr. Marema at Flagler. I have five more NUT visits (including one this month) so I'm looking forward to a July surgery date. I'm currently waiting on the office to complete the insurance verification process so I can schedule a consultation. I was …

I had my first appt w my PCP and he referred me to see the nutritionalist/dietitian. I attended a seminar prior to seeing my PCP. They verified my insurance ect. The bariatric coordinator said that I had 2 see the dietician 3 times once a month? My BMI was 39.89? And I had a elevated blood pressure and tomorrow Monday I will do some blood work for my thyroid and blood sugar. Anyway, I've juicing for a few weeks and I am really hoping that my journey is smooth. I really needed that 40 BMI and I was 1 pound off! Wish me luck!

Had my gastric bypass on April 17, 2014 at Huntington hospital in Pasadena. This hospital is awesome! Like a four star hotel. Private rooms with everything you need including wifi. The staff was great and everything worked! Unlike the last hospital I was at for previous surgery. My surgeon was Dr. Doraiswamy from the California Bariatric and General Surgery Associates. He did an awesome job. He is very carrying and invested.

I'm only 8 weeks out. At 10 days post-op, I got a horrible sinus infection. Since I was on a pure liquid diet and blowing my nose like it was going out of style, I got really dehydrated and needed IV fluids. That illness lasted about 2 solid weeks. Then almost 2 weeks ago I got another sinus infection (at 6 weeks out.) This really stinks! Did anyone else have issues with getting sick?

Hi there! I have my first appointment with Dr. Gandsas at AAMC on August 1. I've been to the seminar and I am dying to have this done ASAP. My insurance won't cover anything that has to do with obesity surgery so I'll be paying on my own. Its worth it to me! I was wondering if anyone here could tell me a little bit about what to expect once I see the surgeon, the types of tests he requires, and how soon they will schedule my surgery knowing I do not need insurance approval. Any advice would be very much appreciated. I'm very impatient and I was hoping I could do some things on my own before my appointment that might speed things up! Thanks everyone!

I have been struggling for sometime. In 2012 due to stressful diagnosis of cancer for my husband I had all the Fluid removed because I was having issues. I decided to wait, and recently just decided I would get my band filled again. I have been so nervous and a wreck because the last time, I had so many issues and I am scared to death to have those again. I made the appointment to get my fill on a Wednesday, they don't do Tuesdays because that is surgery day, Fridays for some other reason. Mondays and Thursdays with my work are not good. It's 70 plus miles for me to drive EACH WAY. My husband has to be at his cancer center on Wednesdays each month for some treatments an…

I'm really frustrated with the location (My New Self in St. Louis, MO) I've selected for my surgery due to the lack of service provided by the front office staff. I feel good about my surgeon and I've met with the dietician several times and she is great. But, every time I deal with the front office staff over the phone or in person they aren't friendly or helpful and it's making me question my decision. It seems like they are overwhelmed and don't really care about how they treat you or talk to you. I received my insurance approval and called yesterday to see if I could schedule my surgery and what the next steps are. The gal who answered said they had received the appro…

Does anyone have any experience or had surgery with Dr. Bipan Chand at Loyola? I am still in the approval process for insurance (I have H M O insurance thru BCBS so I had to start with my PCP before I could even get the referral to see the surgeon) and I am scheduled to attend his seminar on Jan. 5th, but I'm trying to get some feedback from others who have used him for surgery. I couldn't find too much about him on this site. My PCP said I would be referred to either Loyola or UIC (my choice) but I do not know too much about either bariatric program and Loyola would be closer (I live in Mundelein, IL) and I thought that would be easier for appointments, attending supp…

Can't say enough about the bariatric team at Easton Hospital. I felt very comfortable with the surgeon, Vinay Singhal, who has a relaxed and attentive bedside manner. The coordinator, Mandy Nace, really was a lifeline for me from beginning to end.

Hello!! I am going to North Florida Regional Medical Center for my seminar next Friday 3/16, and that is when they are going to ask me to chose my surgeon. A lot of people seem to recommend Dr. Timothy Hipp and he has been my first choice. However, I see they have a new surgeon as well, Dr. Geoffrey Roelant from Ohio State University Medical Center. Does anyone here have any experience with Dr. Roelant?

So tomorrow my journey officially begins. Intake day. I'll be talking with the PA, the Psychologist, a nutritionist, and a financial/insurance specialist, as well as having some blood work done. I'm nervous but excited to finally be moving forward with this. Anyone else who had surgery with Dr. Weiss? He comes very highly recommended. I'm told the best in the state. I'd appreciate some "intake day" insights if you have any. Thanks.

Just wondering if anyone has chosen Dr. Kole and what your thought on him are? I am scheduled to see Dr. Meguid from Beaumont Grosse Pointe but I can not get into see him until July 28. I am afraid of waiting that long as I am standing up in my brothers wedding which isn't until November 8th but I am putting on the Bridal Shower Sept. 20. I think if I wait that long I will be pushing it kinda close for recovery and putting on a Bridal Shower. I really liked Dr. Meguid when I met him at the seminar I went to so that's why I initially chose him. I figure if I go to meet Dr. Kole and don't get the same fuzzy feelings I can just move on and stick with Meguid. I have a BMI…

Hi people! I am very new to this site and I find it really helpful to me. So I am a foreign student and I have been to America for few years. I decided to have the Gastric Sleeve Surgery months ago and I have started saving money for the surgery ever since. I live in socal area and I have been calling some doctors. All of them qouted from 18000-20000. It's a huge amount of money for me. I am determined to have the surgery but before that I'd love to hear your stories and experiences and how much did you spend etc... While price is definately one of my major concerns, I am not planning on doing it in Mexico. I am not judging or anything, it's just a risk that I am not wil…

So I'm 5 mths post op band revision. Happy with my weightloss, have about 20 lbs to goal. Here's my dilemma: For the past 4 yrs I saw my surgeon in Oregon, a COE and an exceptional dr. I have Medicare. They cover 1 yr of post op visits after my revision. I saw my dr at 4 weeks and he wanted me to have my Vitamin level checked and see him in another 3 mths. 8 weeks ago (about a month before my appt) we unexpectedly moved to So Ca (MIL died and we're here taking care of elderly FIL). I have an appt with a primary care dr at the VA clinic on Dec 19th to take over my basic care. He can certainly order vitamin levels. I would hafta pay out of pocket if I wanted to see a bari…

The doctor I'm considering has had mixed reviews. Lots love him, but the most common complaint is he treats people like cattle , is arrogant, rude, and wont answer question and will tell patients he's too busy . I haven't met with him yet and am a little worried. I want a doctor who's phenomenal at his job so arrogance is to be expected, but where is the line? I know there are tons of doctors out there, but I cant afford them. He offers specials so I feel like if I want this surgery I have to choice....
