I have my first appointment tomorrow I'm excited but nervous, hoping to schedule a date.

  2. Hi Everyone, I go by SnohoGal98296 - I have been visiting and posting for a few months now. At first I was lurking to learn about your experiences and your pre and post surgery successes and failures. I also wanted to learn if you had the same experience as I have and if those experiences helped lead you to weight loss surgery. I did this research to determine if WLS was for me - and through this site, my outside research of specific surgeons and my own family who have made the leap for themselves and are very happy, I have made the decision to get weight loss surgery, specifically the sleeve. I am just in the process of determining which bariatric surgical center …

It's funny how some of my weight loss happens. One day I can weigh say 210 and the next day I can weigh 208, same thing happened when the scale said 206 it happened in one day's time. Is this possible to lose 2 pounds in a days time? Not that I am complaining at all, just was wondering if this was happening to anyone else? I have a habit of trying to weigh myself everyday or every other day. I am trying to go back to weighing weekly. Is this happening to you???

I am 47 years old and I had roux-en-y on Sep 17, 2013. My starting weight was 228 and weight on surgery day was 215. I had diabetes and hypertension and apnea. I had begun to feel the effects of diabetic neuropathy. I watched diabetes take the life of my sister when she was just 50 and I had been struggling to get it under control for 2 years. I am now four months and two weeks out of surgery and I weigh in at 160. I have had normal blood glucose readings since about 4 weeks post op but the readings had been dropping like a rock from the day of surgery (BG of 210 the morning of surgery, and 150 the next day when I went home). Blood pressure was back in normal ranges by 5…

My journey started on Thursday November 14, 2013. Surgery was out patient and took about 45 minutes. Once I left I was fine...no pain. I came straight home and went to bed for a few hours. I walked around the house, but not as much as I should of. Due to the surgery, I wasn't hungry at all and I could not force myself to drink the shakes. I would gag at the thought of it. I drank a good bit of Water and survived (wouldn't recommend it). With only liquids the first week, I lost a considerable amount of weight. I started out at 251, and after only a few days I was down 5lbs. After the first 3 days, I felt like I was in the clear with pain etc....however, the gas pain…

I feel fortunate being able to sit here and tell my story to all of you. We all have had issues, concerns and problems that we have to deal with as part of our decision to undergo weight loss surgery. At least in my case I downplayed some of the potential side effects. I did not think they could happen to me. But they did; here is my story. My insurance (BCBS of Illinois) required a six month managed plan before they would approve weight loss surgery. Although at times this seemed a long period of time, I learned a lot about the surgeries, my motivation to eat, the importance of following a food plan and taking on exercise, something I had never done. During the six m…

  15. I just wanted to share the wonderful experience I had going through bajabariatrics.com for my vertical sleeve 2 weeks ago - Dr. Jalil Illan is top notch and the care and treatment I received, both before and after surgery, was more than I expected. I truly feel a greater connection to Dr. Illan and his team then I do with my PCP here in the States - and I love my doctor here - but the care and time was incomparable - the hospital was clean and private (with a great view), the doctor was thorough, knowledgable and friendly (much more approachable than many doctors I have seen in the US), and his coordinator, Omar, is someone I now truly consider a friend - he was with m…

Hello all, I have my surgery tomorrow at 2pm. I am scheduled to be there at 12 noon. My emotions are all over the place. I never had surgery before, so I'm anxious, excited, scared, nervous. Etc... I've been overweight my entire life and have done yo-yo dieting. I started out my journey in July of 2013 weighing in at 325. Through diet and exercise I am now at 265 with the pre-liquid diet... Dont know if it's normal to go back and forth on this decision for the past 3-4 days, asking my self I only need to lose 65-70 pounds. My medical problems are sleep apnea, that is my major reason for having this surgery. Also I suffer from panic attacks & anxiety. …

  17. This year will be reflection on my long journey, I've had many ups and downs, weight loss surgery IS a journey. I will be 9 years post op this year, and this great little tool is still keeping my weight down. I am still happy and healthy, I don't have to take a boat load of supplements, or kill myself exercising, just an hour walk daily on my treadmill or outdoors helps keep my weight down. I started in a size 26, and my lowest size was a 8, I hover around a size 10/12 at 5'7 inches tall now, I don't have to kill myself at this size -- and still eat what I want, I am grateful to be healthy at 9 years post op and most importantly -- still wearing a size 10...

I am 3 weeks post op for my gastric bypass. My surgery was on 1/8/14. I had a great experience, no adverse side effects at all (except soreness, of course!). I was off pain meds within a week and have felt so great I think to myself, "did I really just do that?" I primarily did the surgery because i am a diabetic with no complications. My mom is on dialysis and is blind from the disease and my sister (1 year younger than me) had a pacemaker at the age of 37 because of this dreadful disease. I am so pleased - i have not had any diabetic meds since i left the hospital and my sugars are perfect! I have lost 25 pounds already, even though I have not yet been cleared for nor…

My weight as of this post is, are you ready for this number, 197 pounds. thats right, I am under 200 pounds. I was 51 years old when I had VSG surgery. I was a yoyo my whole life with weight loss and gain. I never imagined that I could be under 200 pounds after age 50 but it happened because I had the VSG. New here. I'm 22, was banded back in 2010, when I had just turned 18. Had a lot of issues with the band, especially the last year and a half. Nausea, vomiting, food stuck even with Fluid pull. I was 280 the day I came home from surgery, I am now around 240. Not a lot of weightloss, but some. I'm scheduled to have my lapband taken out and switched to the sleeve on Wednesday, February 5. I was wondering if anyone has switched to sleeve from lapband and seen better results? What should I expect? I'm anxious about the pain; after my lapband surgery, all I can remember is the pain and the nights I prayed for it to stop long enough to get some sort of sleep. Also nervous …

I started the process for surgery Nov 2012. It has taken me 14 months to get everything right with the insurance . I was required to loose 25% of my body weight and keep it off fir 6 months. When I started the process I weighed 382lbs. It has been a long and hard road. I'm very excited to have my surgery and hopefully soon my body will be able to do all the things that my mind wants to do. I lost my way and started eating very unhealthy again...does anyone have any suggestions? I even started drinking while eating which defeats the entire purpose. I'm looking for a support group. I do get depressed because I really enjoyed food and it is hard to watch others eat and you not being able to. Don't get me wrong I would not change a thing and I do eat mostly protein and bites of other foods, but I can get carried away with carbs and have to watch that closely. I'm (sort of) just beginning this process of looking into the sleeve. I'm in Houston and two years ago, I looked into having the sleeve done but my doc, dr. Hollis, pushed the band. After having an EGD, I got chemical pneumonia(painful) because I had coughed up some stomach acid while I was under. So I took time off and tried other things but nothing seems to be working. Fast forward to now, I went to True Results and they are still pushing the band. I am self pay and was told they won't even do self pay sleeves. So, I called NeWeigh on the referral of a friend. They said not to do band, sleeve is a much better option. I had already decided that's what I wante…

Everything seems to have gone really well so far although I am, of course, pretty darn sore. The only real problem I am having is that sitting up from a lying down position is very, very uncomfortable. That's normal, right? I know that some people press a pillow against their abdomen when they move like that and they say it hurts a lot less. I haven't found that to make any difference at all. Any recommendations on what has worked for you (beyond never, ever, ever lying down again? ) I am looking forward to moving…
