Aw my surgeon today. He was happy that I met my goal weight 180 lbs down from 310 lbs as of May 1,2013 when I had my surgery. He put me on his web site with before and after pics. I a So wrote a little thing about him and his office staff. How they are great and his after care is great too. Better I also gave a pep like talk to 3 women in the waiting room about how I had done and the ups and downs of the first couple of months post op. They all where going for their surgery in the next month or two. All said that I helped them and I was glad I could give them the support. Told them all I was a RN too so I was looking at my experience from a patient point of view and …

Greetings everyone! I'm a married mother of three (boys). I'm currently in what I guess is the clearance process. My initial consult was 1/17/14. I've been cleared by my surgeon and nutritionist and need just one more visit with my psychologist which is currently 3/10/14. Pending my surgeons schedule I'm told my surgery date could be no layer than early April. Like many others, I've been on the weight loss roller coaster for years. I lose 20-30 lbs then regain plus a few after each attempt. Currently, I don't have any health issues, but do have a family history which coupled with my weight is becoming a concern for me. I'm not sure what else to share, other than the fac…

I'm on day two I had surgery at 8am on valentines day. It's now almost 6pm the day after. I'm still in hospital and I'm a little afraid to go home tomorrow. I have had really severe pain it gets worse through the night. I'm doing the things my doctor tells me but I can't hardly move. The wind pain in my chest and shoulders is a whole other ball game to. If I lie down I can't breathe so I try to walk around as I'm told but then the pain in my side worsens. It's very much a vicious circle. I'm not regretting it, in fact I can't wait to get over this part and start to walk out and feel better. Did anyone else have a really hard time post opp. Please tell me it's not …

THANKS to everyone who was supportive on this website. I thought I was alone until I found a few people that had undergone 3 surgeries. When my doctor told me that there were complications with the sleeve due to the severe scar tissue from the LapBand, I left his office in tears. He told me, my only choice was to convert to RNY. My family was supportive and the staff at the doctor stated I have to consider my quality of life. One and a half months later, I had surgery on Wednesday, February 5th 2014. I am still in pain and the gas in my stomach is severe. I am walking and moving around as much as I can. I have to remain on Stage one until I see my doctor next week.…

I was sleeved Monday morning. As instructed I walked and walked while i was in the hospital to the point that the nurses asked me if I was trying to get an award because I walked more than any other patient ever had. I was sent home Wednesday afternoon with instructions to keep walking (I finally started passing gas Wednesday morning). It's now Friday afternoon and I'm still SICK with GAS. I am over 400 pounds and know that they probably had to use a bunch of it to blow me up but my gosh man when will it end? I can't drink much or eat because every sip of water displaces gas and is painful! Any help is appreciated!

Hi Everyone! I'm new to this site and pre-op. My insurance requires a 6 month medically supervised diet. I'm at month 6. I meet the surgeon on March 3rd. Between months 4 and 5, I stopped drinking Diet Coke and lost 21 lbs. Now, I'm having issues. I'm eating Chobani yogurt, celery, turkey sandwiches on light bread (no mayo), fruit, drinking 72 oz of Water a day...and then I freak out a few times a week. Once, I ate a whole large pizza. I hate binging. I feel gross and ashamed. I haven't gained any of the 21 lbs back. However, is any of this normal? Does it get better after surgery? I'm seeing a therapist about the binging. Help, any advice will be grea…

Hi everyone! I have been lurking around many WLS sites for months, this is my first time posting. I'm having the Roux n Y bypass on March 12th. I can't believe how close it is! I'm getting nervous, but I'm far more excited than I am nervous. A little about me...I'm 37 single mom of a 12yr old boy and 2yr old girl. I have struggled with my weight pretty much since I can remember. However it has really spiraled out of control these last 10 years. I'm 5'2 and a 1/2 (lol) and 270lbs. I'm looking forward to a much more active lifestyle, I have a long list of "first's" to complete. Most importantly I want to be a better example to my children, as well as be able to ph…

Hello Everyone, my name is Tracey and I am new to this. I am having the roux-en y done on 2-26-14. I'm both excited and nervous. The liquid diet is going good so far, but it's only been a couple of days. My doctor and I both agreed this was the best option for me because I have been battling weight issues since I had to have a total thyroidectomy. We have been trying to get me on the right dose of synthroid but my levels are up and down. I am currently taking 300 mcg a day. Since my thyroidectomy I have gained so much weight. Currently at 340lbs and I feel terrible, aside from the thyroid issues I have HBP and taking 3 medications for that. Also lymphedema in the legs, n…

I was banded on 2-7-14. Been on liquids until yesterday. Today I think I over did it. I ate one cup of mushy food every four hours. Now I'm in soooo much pain. Sharp pain in back and side. It's def not gas from surgery. I was scared to start mushy foods. Felt like it was too early but dr told me to start it so I can start my solids soon. Has anyone ever had this pain before? Please help...I've had the pain for 3 hours now. No relief

Please do not flame me for asking this. I am over weight. I have tried EVERYTHING. My fear with getting the Sleeve is that I'll lose so much that I will not be able to stop the weight loss. I want/need to lose 60lbs, but absolutely no more than that. Is it possible to stop the weight loss? I am planning on Dr. Alvarez in Mexico.

As I read these wonderful post, I feel inspired again. I am only 9 months out and 50 pounds down. Before I had the sleeve I had low self-esteem, so what people thought and said were very important to me. After the surgery it was the same. So when a nurse told me that I wasn't doing so well loosing, I let that get to me. I figure that she knew better since she had seen so many people through this surgery. I assumed that this wasn't the tool for me and went back to eating out but of course in small portions. I found that candy and chips didn't make me sick and took up less space. I stopped cooking. I have found this site to be so motivating that I am going to try to get bac…

I'm sure it has to be some weird Water weight or something. I am getting my 64 + ounces of water and 70g of Protein in without a problem. But find it odd that I have actually gained 2 pounds in the last couple days. I haven't been able to find any threads with something similar... please tell me I'm not the only one. Not even getting 300 calories a day right now. I am down 2 pounds overall from the morning of surgery, but up 2 since this weekend. Would like to hear from others that this happened to them too.

Hi my name is Anica I have been having weight problem since high school. The older I am getting it is harder to lose weight the traditional way. I work out 3-4 time a week and watch what I eat. Still the weight doesn't come off. I have tried weight watcher, paleo, doctor approve weight loss program, and evening juicing. Nothing has work may have lose 10lbs and then gain it all back and even more. 2011 I wanted the weight loss surgery so I schedule an appt. to find out that the insurance I had didn't cover it so I cancelled the surgery. As of Jan 1, 2014 the insurance I have now covers it so I made up in my mind that I will get the surgery to help me with the weight loss. …

Finished with all my insurance retirements with exception of my 3rd and final visit. Dr Wittgrove's office has been so supportive and we have decided to sleeve me late march early April! I must say seeing the psychologist was irritating. Not sure if it's meant to piss you off or if that particular psychologist was just having an off day. Anyone one have that same type of experience? Either way she passed me and I'm on my way!! A little scared, but really happy to get sleeved! Starting weight 246 1/12/14 Current weight 250 2/13/14 Goal weight 160 !

Hi all, I am 8 days post-op. surgery date was 2/5/14. And I will tell you holy crap I was in a lot of pain for the first 7 days. Although the pain hasn't magically stopped now it feels more like I did an extreme Ab workout. Is any one else sick of liquid protein shakes? I know I am! I used to think yuck apple sauce now I am thinking yum apple sauce and I am going to eat the crap out of it. Lol. It may sound strange, but I miss chewing. I am finally starting to be able to take a little bigger then just a sip (thank goodness) I have found it really hard not to gulp my water especially when I am really thirsty. I also have found it difficult to quench my thirst because…

I was discharged from the hospital yesterday and I've been having a tingling sensation in my upper right thigh Friday night. Today my thigh is swollen and I still have a tingling sensation. Has anybody experienced this? I called the surgeon on call this a/m and he said as long as it wasn't red- not to worry about it but see my surgeon tomorrow. He's never had a patient experience with what I'm going through. I hope it's not a blood clot!

I had to change the starting weight on my profile page because I have gone up quite a bit during my six month pre-op phase. I have six months of weigh-ins with my PCP in order to qualify for my surgery. Each month I have gone up because I just keep having food funerals. Thank goodness I only have one more month of weigh-ins. I don't know how much more I can afford to gain.

Hello Everyone! My name is Jane and I had the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery on December 20th, 2013. I was in the hospital for 5 days and overall, it was difficult, primarily because I have chronic headaches and the morphine triggered terrible migraines. I have lost 30 lbs. and although I usually always approach in a super positive manner, I have to say, I am disappointed with my weight loss results and am nervous that it's just NOT going to work for me. I started at 248 and have about 100 lbs. to lose and was told by my surgeon that I may only lose about 60% of my weight and with diet and exercise would be able to lose the rest. I've seen several youtube video's a…

I haven't read anybody else's intro so not sure what to say. I just had my gastric bypass about a month ago, in January 2014. How did I get here? I don't know how it happened. I yoyo'd for years but it was never horribly crazy until about 15 years ago when I went to grad school full time while working full time and doing a freelance job part time. Lot's of sitting. The weight slowly crept on and I was too busy to notice until it was out of control. Actually, I don't think that I really noticed it too much--it was more other people making comments to me. People can be cruel! I joined Jenny Craig and started to lose weight but then they raised their rates and I decided to…

Hello my name is Lauren I had my lap band surgery on August 2nd 2013 and I started out at 212 pounds, I am now 163 I have lost 49 pounds and I have no fluid in my band. Why you ask? Well it's a personal choice based on the motto if it's not broken don't fix it. I have been consistently losing weight every week since my surgery and have found no real need to get any fluid. I have been to my check ups regularly and my doctor says I'm doing amazing. Yes I still have restriction and no I cannot eat whatever I want. I do not eat any bread or pasta if I do its SMALL amounts and it's either toasted bread or angel hair spaghetti cut really really small. I eat small portion sizes …
