Hi.i had my gastric band on 26/1 14.feeling excited and so well after suffering for so long with the excess weight my body couldn't cope with.i dieted 2 wks pre op on milk diet Which was hard and then a wk 1000 cals including no more than 100 g carb a day.a wk after surgery and I had lost 181b!! Haven't weighed since.a day post op suffered badly with trapped wind causing chest pain and back and shoulder pain and luckily after 2 days it went.wasnt nice and I had a little shoulder pain on occasions but this has gone for over a wk now.i am on sloppy diet now and enjoying it.wasnt hungry for 10 days post op

But have hunger at times now.not severe but I know a good sign my stomach has healed well.got my first fill on3/2/.havent drank alcohol since new yr, love diet coke but will struggle with a nice mixer to go with vodka.even if u don't drink alchohol pubs don't offer a lot of low cal non fizzy low cal drinks! I would recommend anyone who has had the weight struggle I have had for 30 years.i am an expert at weight loss but even better putting it on lol xxxx

Welcome!I so agree with the last statement! Actually, I think I am an expert at weight loss becasue I have done it so many times! I just haven't figured out how to keep the loss off until lapband! I am glad that you are now past your healing stage. I assume "sloppy" is what we call mushy. Enjoy getting past teh liquid stage. Best wishes, Karen..aka.kll724

Hi Shel, isn't it great being on the other side! Glad you are healing up well and very exciting about this new chapter in your life. I was banded in November -- like you not hungry at first then my hunger returned. Funny thing, though, it is not my enemy now. I feel like hunger is a signal from my body that I can interpret now and before I just wanted food all the time regardless. So that feels straightened out inside me -- the conversation between brain and stomach. You got a fill already -- that's great. Good luck with coming weeks. Glad you are here!

Hi Quamina, you might want to start a new topic so more people will see your thread and respond....wish I had something to offer but I'm new at this banded life. I am definitely tighter in the mornings and then just sometimes it feels different. People talk about being tight for hormonal reasons, weather, altitude, etc. If you ever can't get liquids through I'd say get to the doctor immediately. Personally I really worry about too tight of a band.

Hi Shell, I was banded in May 2011 and I wasn 't hungry for months, till the end of November when the cold weather made me want more food.< /p>

During those months I was satiated by the joy of losing weight..it was a sort of addiction...I felt like when I was young and in love . Now things are no longer so smooth. Head hunger often knocks on my door..But my band, which is my best friend, prevents me from coming back to the bad habits of my pre-band life

You seem to have a rather unorthodox doctor? Fills at 1 week post-op are rare if not ever?

I'd also recommend you lay off the booze for a few months. Alcohol can lower your inhibitions to food and they also contain empty calories. At a time when you're eating less, the quality of nutrition going in your body is much more important than the buzz from booze. jmo

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
