So, I am at 9 days since surgery, there have been times that I've wished I hadn't done it. Had my surgery Monday 20th of January, it went well, was feeling great the rest of the day, was drinking/sipping Water, broth and Jello on and off got a few walks in. Tuesday came around not such a good day, doctor wanted me home after my bariatric meal test, but sadly I had a allergic reaction to Hydrocodine, itchy rash, nausea, so they change me to Oxyicodine which help me, got sent home Tuesday night. Wednesday wasn't to bad a day but come Thursday it seem I still had some ill effect of the Hydrocodine, I was covered in Hives, not fun. Friday was my worse'd day, I was dry heav…

I haven't done this before so I thought I would post a before shot and a shot from 7 months out. 65 lbs and feeling great! I'm a slow loser and for 2 months did not lose a pound. I was one who thought I could eat anything I wanted and still lose. That is NOT the case. You can prevent yourself from losing. I went to Hawaii and drank wine like it was going out of style and ate everything sweet that came my way during Christmas and low and behold....didn't lose a pound for 2 months. The minute I started eating my Protein and drinking my Water, I started losing again. This takes work and dedication to a lifestyle change just as much as anything else. It is NOT the easy way ou…

Well, I made it! For those who have not read my previous post I started this journey at 269 lbs and have tried many things to control my weight, some worked not for long but nothing stuck. I had four months of nutritionist appointments. I was required to do a psych evaluation due to my young age, as well as lab work and the usual. I started my pre op diet Jan 14th but I have made the neccesary changes to my eating habits before then. I am now a whopping 239 as of today, lost two sizes in jeans, and all before my surgery. It has been hard, and I've learned a lot about myself. I thought I was confident before, I never knew how much my weight truly limited me in what I coul…

I am a 19yr old female I just got my gastric sleeve done last Thursday so 8 days ago . I was 223 on the day of surgery as of today I am 209. I have a few questions if any one can answer them it would be great . I wanted to know when can I go to gym and work out or maybe just take Zumba and also when may I lay on my stomach again :/ . I only have one incision , it's inside my belly button so you can't even see it . It's pretty much closed now and no stitches . Also at night I get really bad gasses or acid I'm not sure what it is it's just a very uncomfortable painful air that comes up and that's it I don't burp nothing but it happens a lot when I'm sleeping :/

Hi this is my first post in the forum. Feels as if I am back in grad school. Well I had my gastric sleeve on December 3, 2012. I started at 248 and now am about 169. I did see 166, but it only lasted for a day. I still want to loose about 15 pounds, but it is not coming off. I do the gym 3 times a week and lift weights and the treadmill, elipitical or rowing machine. I alternate between the 3 so my body does not get used to either. I am from Augusta,GA and my surgeon was Dr. Blaney. He is great. I can eat anything I want to, small amounts of course, but I still crave Snacks and for the most part I try to eat healthy Protein snacks, but do cheat some times. I have not gon…

NSV: I've recently started dating again and It's been an entirely different experience for me. I've always dated men who were older than me by a minimum of 5 years and biggest gap 13 years. Nowadays I get approached by soooo many younger guys and I'm not talking 2 years younger. I'm talking WAY younger! It's like the older ones are scared to approach me or something. I went to a bar in Denton, Texas (college town) and these adorable college kids were hitting on me and thought I was 21!!! When I told them I was a 33 year old divorcee and MOTHER of an 8 year old boy their jaws dropped right before they exclaimed almost in unison, "HOT MILF!" I know it's silly but that …

Hi. I started looking into WLS last summer, doing lots of research, and finally decided on the sleeve. My first "weigh-in" with my PCP was in November, and monthly since then, so, according to my Michigan insurance, I'll have my 6 months of weigh-ins and physician documentation by April. I see the bariatrician on Feb 10 (I was supposed to see her on Monday, but the weather prevented me from traveling the 50 miles to her office). And during the next 3 months, I'll have my psych eval and whatever else is necessary. I talked to the nurse last week, and she's thinking I'll probably have the surgery in April or early May. I'm getting excited! I'll be 50 in a couple of month…

I am 60 years old and retired 2 years ago Jan 31, 2012. My goal was to get in shape so I could go out and do things. I was 295 lbs and really scared I would go over 300 lbs and this usually triggered me to diet on my own or go to ww. I was really beginning to realize how much damage I was doing to myself. I would do good for awhile get down to around 270 or 280 and quit. My clothes fit better and I was not close to 300 any more. This time was different I wanted to be under 200 and knew dieting would not work as I had failed so many times before so I decided to get the sleeve surgery over a year and 3 months ago. I had to jump through a lot of hoops for ins but it …

I have not been on this forum in months due to my crazy life. 2 jobs and school also in process of moving. However my insurance company requires us to complete a 6 month follow up with a nutritionist to track and monitor our eating and exercising. We also had to complete an array of test h pylori, sleep apnea, physical behavior evaluation ect. This some what became a challenge for me, due to the new criteria in 2014 my insurance has now. However i was still able to complete these extra things. I am approaching my 5 th month on 2.11.14, I have 1 more month after that than I am complete. I will meet with my surgeon, complete a few more test with him and I will be ready …

My surgery date is Feb. 18th. I can't believe I'm a month away? Sadly I already started a protein diet. I was just doing strictly protein but now I've started the 2 shakes plus a dinner. Plus, I'm still having a couple of additional protein snacks. I start the real deal 2 wk pre op diet on Feb. 4 no protein snacks I think what I'm dreading the most is the three day liquid diet before surgery. I'll be at a horse show with my daughter for those three days. I don't know how I'm going to do it. But I know I will. I have no choice.

Just checking in! Hello everyone and I'm so excited to share that I'm down 30 pounds since my surgery! That's 70 pounds since my weight loss journey has started! I am finally on solid foods and though eating out is a challenge, nothing tastes better than fitting into my old jeans...some of them are even too big! Ok so I have a question.. I'm finding it difficult to see myself losing weight. I can feel it but when I look in the mirror I just don't see it which is rather odd. Anyone else have this problem? If so how did you cope and what did you do to see differently?

Hello All: It's been a few months since I've been on this forums, but all those who had gone through the VSG before me and gave me such wonderful advise and encouragement--I wanted to say THANK YOU! I am at my 9 month mark post surg, and I have maneuvered through the maze of adopting a whole new relationship with "eating" and healthy lifestyle and I wanted to put myself out there for anyone who would like some encouragement or anyone who has questions about the procedure (positive and negative). According to my surgeon I am in the <10% who have experienced some unwanted effects of the procedure--BUT given even the (at times) struggle with those negative effects--I…

When making the decision to have surgery, do your homework. I researched for over a year before deciding to have surgery. Research your doctor and his results. Get your mind in the right place and expect to have doubts. About 5 days after surgery i ask myself, " what the hell have you done?". This past in about a 2 days. I got on the scale and was down 14 lbs. I have never looked back. You have to have determination and will power. You control what you eat and no one else. Before I eat anything, i ask myself,"how does this help me towards my goal?". This let saying has helped when I've been tempted. I was sleeved on September 23, 2013. I am 4 months out and hit 75 pound…

I'm male, currently 60 years young. I had a VSG on 9/10/13. I gone from 430 pounds in May of 2013 to 269 as of today. Down 91 pounds since my Sleeve operation. My journey has been a long road to get here. I started in 1976 when I had to lose 40 pounds to get to 250 for an entrance weight for enlistment in the US NAVY. I tried to diet on my own while serving and yo-yo style was what happened. My health suffered. After I got out and was preparing to get married I wanted to lose weight again and used a DRs supervised exchange diet. Then after it worked I was back up even more. Next was NutriSystem. Lost 100 pounds then gained 130. Then it was the Nutrition Clinic…

Hi, I was banded in April 2013 my weight loss journey has been slow and I can't seem to find a perfect green zone!!! I notice every month around ovulation time I swell up & struggle to eat anything except bad choices & mind you this is for 2 weeks out of the month! I find I can't eat eggs, meat, bread, fish...as they make me sick but I can eat ice cream or chocolates out of pure desperation !! The other 2 weeks out if the month my adjustment works perfect or to what I think is the green zone!? I can't afford to be adjusted every 2 weeks and was wanting to hear from any ladies out there with the same struggle!? I have lost about 12kilos so far & have a bit to …

I'm planning on bypass but will come to a complete decision after speaking with the bariatric folks. Very excited to get started! So, I'm a wife to Jim for 16 years (almost) and have a 9 year old son. Also two cats and a dog! Can't forget my furbabies! I've been battling my weight most of my life to some degree. My most severe issues started once I hit college. Like everyone here, I've run the gammut of diets! I've done low carb, low cal, liquid, etc. Lost a lot and gained A LOT back! I had my RNY on 5/29/2013. Prior to surgery I had multiple health problems. Some where the typical ones; I had been diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and degenerative arthritis. I also had some non-typical health problems; these were lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, an auto-immune thyroid and fibromyalgia. I was taking approximately 20 different medications. I was struggling daily with my life! My weight pre-op was 309. I could not walk 50 feet without becoming so winded that I needed to stop and take a break. I couldn't climb one flight of stairs. My hips and knees hurt so bad. I was looking at possibly ending up in a wheel chair befor…

Hi! I'm LuluDemon99 and I just found this website today. And I am SUPER happy I did. I have been looking for a place online to keep track of my progress and record some of the things I am going through so I can look back and reminisce (one fine day). I am having the LAP-Band surgery on December 18th at the NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC - AND I AM SO EXCITED!! Dr. George Fielding is doing my surgery - if my liver is skinny enough. I have been thinking of having some type of surgery for 8+ years and can't actually believe its happening now. I am on day 4 of my pre-op diet and it is harrrrrdddddd. I am doing 1000cals p/day of low sugar/low carb Protein shakes…

I am almost 3 weeks post op and have hit a stall already. I've only lost 10 pounds since surgery and have been the same weight for a week! It's very discouraging this early on. Dealing with the emotions of no food, pain and weakness and what I've done to myself, on top of no weightloss is killing me. Maybe I really can't lose weight even with the sleeve?! Anybody else experience this?

Hi all , I am Suzy from Cairo Egypt. Here things are bit different in process than what I read here. My doctor didn't ask me to do any pre diet before the surgery at all actually I followed what I read here and online. Insurance considers this cosmetic surgery so it's not covered at all. We don't have all the nice protein shakes so we have to make them up I have scheduled the surgery three times in past month once with visiting doc from uk who really is the one I thank for bringing me to where I am now and explained everything to me yet had family and financial emergency so couldn't make while he was here. So met with a local doctor and we set a date but got sick so we …

Ok 10 weeks out and I am half way to my goal of 80 pounds!!! 40 pounds down so far. Love my sleeve and feel like a new woman. Has anyone else looked in the mirror and not really recognize yourself anymore? I got done up Friday, put on my new size M sweater and my yellow leather jacket that I haven't been able to wear in 2 years and just stared at my reflection thinking WOW! Is that really me??? Maybe that sounds ridiculous but it was very strange!!! I must also mention that I had a very difficult year with a marriage splitting up after 21 years together (since I was 19) and a teenager that got into some drugs and just a very traumatic year. I feel so much more confident …

Hi, I am 1 week till surgery - 3 October. I've been on Optifast for 3.5 weeks now. (whew!) I have lost a total of 9 kilos and have so much more energy! I think the most important thing is to keep a positive attitude. I have found myself daydreaming about the foods I miss - and have had to redirect my attention. I am wondering for those of you who have had the op already - How long before I can drive? This may sound frivolous considering the surgery I'm going through, but my hubby works out of town Mon-Frid and after week 2, I will be home alone. Also, is there anyone else with Diabetes ll, going through this? Before I started on Optifast my morning glucose levels w…

I had been thinking about wls a while. My brother had bypass, my sister has the band. This is happening so fast.. My first appointment was 1/6/14 and I already had 3 months supervision.. I finally got insurance that would cover it through my husbands job.. It was excluded with my company.. I work with insurance so I knew the requirements and had already prepared for the 1/1/14 effective date with Cigna. I was approved 1/24/14. The confusion I have now is did I chose the correct procedure .. Band vs sleeve.. The doctor was really pushing the sleeve, but I was totally against it. Now I'm just having 2nd thoughts. Anything u can offer on the difference would be appreciated…

50 pounds down from my highest weight – UNBELIEVABLE. 50 pounds since 08/21/13 when I stood on the doctor’s office scale and saw 256.6 and cried. I have never lost 50 pounds before; this feels amazing and somewhat surreal. I have 56 more to go, which seems a little daunting as I write that number. So many things have happened during this journey – I’ve celebrated successes and I have cried at perceived failures. I have consumed more than 200 Protein shakes and logged over 170 miles since my surgery date of 11/14/13. I have learned a lot about my family and me. I have learned that I get cranky and lash out when I feel out of control, specifically when it comes to…

Hi! On December 30th I had an IVC filter put in because I already had a blood clot and have factor v (clotting disorder). That night I was in terrible pain. Turns out that when the nurse was putting pressure on my groin to close the vein it pinched a nerve. So the week before surgery was painful. I had gastric bypass January 3rd (of course we got snow and it was declared state of emergency so the ride to the hospital was fun). Surgery went very well. Was up and doing laps around the nurses station. They even laughed saying how fast I was going! One week post op I had my first f/u. I was down 20lbs! The surgeon removed the drain and all looked good. The next night I was in…

So I finally have a surgery date (3/10) and I guese it's time to tell my story. I have not been overweight my whole life. I was an athlete in high school and that carried over into my adult life. I've never been "skinny" just fit and curvy. Then suddenly about 10 years ago I couldn't eat whatever I wanted without gaining weight. Ok no big deal I ate better and exercised more and lost the weight but since then it's been a struggle up and down constantly dieting. The final straw came when I had to quit smoking for a job I wanted. I gained 50 pounds in less than 2 months and no matter what I do its here to stay. Since the weight gain ny self esteem has plummeted. I no longer…

Can someone please explain to me why the body needs carbs to feel full longer than if you just ate meat and veggies. And how food companies hope to profit because of that need for carbs above and beyond what the body needs that we wind up obese.
