They perform a pregnancy test before surgery including if you have had a tubal ligation. The only way to get out of it is if you had your uterus removed.

Are you pregnant? Worried you might be newly pregnant and them miss it? Bloodwork detects at 2 weeks post implant. So unless very newly pregnant they will know.

So are you pregnant? if you haven't had a period in 5 weeks you should see your Gyno and have some blood work done..

I just found out today I am 9 weeks pregnant!!! I was 2 weeks pregnant when I had the surgery and it wasn't detected!! So now I'm stuck with a dilemma!!! My gym advised I terminate the pregnancy because I had X-rays under anesthesia during surgery which there's a 80 percent chance the fetus has birth defects!!! She set me up with a doctor the doctor won't do it bc it's to high risk!!! So now I'm lost with what to do with this

I am currently 8 weeks prego but I'm at goal and 14 months out from surgery.. You can have lots of tests that are non invasive to check on your passengers health.. Those are done at 12 weeks so maybe see a perinatologist and get their opinion. Don't stress yourself out, if that little guy is still hanging on maybe it's meant to be. lots of women have gotten pregnant early on after surgery and I think there is somebody who went through the same thing you did. She managed to have a healthy baby and still lost weight. I'm here if you need help or guidance..

To say I am freaked out would be an understatement... Please keep your judgement and bad comments to yourself I have enough of that in my inner monologue right now... I am six weeks post op... have been really careful both times my hubby and I have done the deed using two forms of protection and I just got 2 BFPs... I am terrified and exvited at the same time... how did this little guy make it past all of our measures?!?! I am 5 weeks along according to my last MP meaning I got PG about 2-3 weeks post op... yall im freaking out

No one is going to force you to carry this pregnancy to term if you don't want to. But if you do want to, get some sound, informed medical advice before making a decision. For example, check with your surgeon to get a definitive answer as to whether x-rays were performed on you while unconscious. My understanding is that is not standard procedure. You shouldn't just assume it happened. Furthermore, this fact sheet from the CDC says that if an early stage embryo survives radiation exposure, the odds of having birth defects are very small.

The fetus is made up of only a few cells during the first 2 weeks of pregnancy. Damage to one cell can cause the death of the embryo before the mother even knows that she is pregnant. Of the babies that survive, however, few will have birth defects related to the exposure, regardless of how much radiation they were exposed to.

It sounds to me like your baby is alive and so, according to this fact sheet anyway, has a very small risk of birth defects even if an x-ray did happen.

If you decide to continue with the pregnancy, ask your surgeon for a referral to a high-risk ob-gyn specialist that has worked with post-wls patients before. I would be surprised if they don't have a local doctor who has worked with their other patients. Getting accidentally pregnant too soon after surgery is pretty common, and mom and baby can be kept safe and healthy but you'll need to work very hard at getting your nutrition in. Again, though, the decision is yours alone. Best wishes to you.

On the RNY side there is a girl named Jerz she had a very similar story. She delivered a beautiful little boy very healthy in Nov! Congrats.

I think you have you mind made up about terminating this pregnancy.. You shouldn't seek validation as to why you should or shouldn't do it. Follow your heart and find another doctor who will terminate your pregnancy before you get any further along. I had an ultrasound yesterday and saw my baby's heart beat so I feel for you and know its a tough decision to make.

women have made it through successful pregnancies after going through a situation like yours, become your best advocate and do what you see fit.. All very scary but doable..
