Just noticed this happening in the past few weeks. There are times when my lapband works fabulously but I have had several times recently that I have eaten - knowing that this was not a good thing - quite a bit of food & not felt any restriction. I had my surgery March 2012 & have lost 65 lbs. Recently I have struggled with going back to my previous grazing way of eating. Why is the band working at times but yet not working at others?

  5. I had to cancel the last appointment since I was so sick. My surgery was on 2/28. Now that I am 5 weeks out, am I still on the soft food diet or can I progress to regular food? I brought thin RYE bread, I cut it in half and use it as a vessel for other spreads. Is that bad? I know when I had enough. I do incorporate healthy food too. I drink Almond Milk with my Protein shake. I like my energy now. I feel good. HELP... I do not keep a food diary, am I supposed to? I am losing weight and I am very strict about what I eat. Pre op I was 226, now I am 212. Is 14 lbs reasonable in 5 weeks? I plan to reschedule an appt with my NUT …

  7. Many of us posted daily before and after surgery. What was this? What was that? Is this normal? Why am I not losing enough weight? The list is endless, I know I posted, oddly enough about my ass, but I posted a great deal. Then the party ended. Post op became my life, it was no longer new. I figured out how to eat, avoid getting sick and lost more weight than I had even planned on losing. No posts here. No thanks given for all the wonderful advice. I feel like a hypocrite I asked so much of this site, then just dropped it as we tend to do in this digital world we live in. What makes this site what it is is the people. The community, the collective und…

  11. Started by nocturnalgemi,

I'm one week out from surgery. Still feeling pretty good, just tired. I pretty much slept all day. I haven't had to take my pain meds since yesterday. Today I ate Cream of Wheat sweetened with a little Splenda, a jar of Gerber's chicken and gravy (meh...it wasn't horrible, just needed salt), and pureed ham with a little mayo. I also managed a caramel Premier Protein shake. Nothing I've eaten has triggered nausea (yay!) so I'm still good on that front. Also nothing has tasted particularly bad either. I've heard many people say their tastes for different foods have changed but mine hasn't. At least, not yet. My only concern at this point is I still haven't had my first bow…

I've been waiting to post my story because I'm afraid it will come out too negatively and may scare off folks looking into surgery. Now that I'm where I am in the recovery process, I feel like I can tell the tale. Plus, I think the stories that are tough are just as important to the discussion. I had RNY on October 5th 2016. I had it at DHMC in Lebanon NH with Dr. Truss, they have an excellent program and great safety & success stats there. I did months of Dr. supervised diet, psych visits, and all the other Insurance prerequisites. My program weight was 413 lbs and I was 45 years old. On the day of surgery I was 385 (mostly thanks to the 2 week pre-op diet)…

Hi all. I had my surgery nearly 3 months ago, and I am SO low energy! I feel lethargic all the time, and I fall asleep at 8 or 9 pm every night! I used to be a night owl. I am eating well, and definitely getting in all of my Protein, Vitamins and Fluid. Is this normal? Is it just my body adjusting to the low calorie intake? Any input would be appreciated.

Here I am on my 6th day post op and I'm excited because I decided to start walking for 30 mins twice a day but as excited as I am I'm also uncomfortable. I haven't been able to sleep well, is it just me or is there some stomach pain or not really pain as much as just really irritating. My abdominal is a little sore but that hardly bothers me at all, I'm wondering if anyone else has gone through this feeling.

  25. Could someone please tell me when the constant burping will subside. It is quite painful, and even though I have been careful to take little sips and make sure I am not swallowing air, I still end up with huge burps. It is hard enough to get the required amount of liquid down without having the discomfort of gas, never mind that I can't return to work if every time I sip, it sounds like a pig farm. Any help is appreciated.

Is this within the norm? I'm 3 weeks post op, and following guidelines from NUT. I'm eating Greek yogurts, protien shakes, soft chicken, pudding consistency potato, babyfood carrots, getting my fluids in (mostly anyway.. terrible Water nausea!) I've been having horrible continuing bouts of very loose (Liquid consistency) diarrhea for about a week I'd say. I've been cleared to eat plain oatmeal and cream of wheat, but haven't yet. Is this common, or am I destined to have a continuing affair with the bathroom. It's Sunday, so can't call....anyone now if we can take Immodium or anything else that could help?? Advice...personal experience, please!?

I cant stand the taste of milk and have been forcing down protien shakes for ages, recently ive been slacking off and i think its time to find an alternative. I try to have as much protien as i can during the day i.e. yogurt for breakfast, chicken and meat for lunch - supper What shake alternatives are there? Are the protien bars they sell at the gym ok for me?

Has anyone had any issues with the milk based shakes post op? I have never been lactose intolerant prior but as soon as I began my post op drinks I began to get lots of gas pain, loud belly noises and diarrhea. Dr said try lactose free shakes and give it 24 hours. If you have had this, does the intolerance go away at some point?

I had VSG four days ago and so far I haven't left the "buyer's remorse" phase I read so much about before my surgery. The pain has been absolutely unbearable. I'm pretty sure it's all gas pain. I can't pass gas nor can I poop, so all I do is cry, drink Protein shakes, and try to sleep. I've called my surgeon -- he says walk and drink Water. So I walk and drink water. Still, this pain is the most intense I've ever felt in my life. How long do I have to live with this?

  36. Hey all, I was sleeved 3/21 and I am now on the full liquid stage of the diet which for me includes clear liquids, protein shakes, greek yogurt, sugar free pudding etc. The problem is, every time I eat or drink anything (sometimes including water) I get these horrible gas pains in my stomach like I need to burp. It is literally right after I take one bite or one sip. I don't have much gas pain otherwise so i am wondering if this is a normal sensation in the beginning and will it last very long? I have heard of people talking about feeling full and needing to burp or getting pain when they get full but I don't think this is the same since it only takes one bite or one …

I had my surgery on Tuesday the 28th. Ever since I started the pre-op liquid diet I have been getting acne on my chin. I ended up on 3 weeks of pre-op because I got a cold and my surgery had to be rescheduled. Since the surgery the acne seems to be even worse. I'm 55! I haven't had acne for decades. I was thinking maybe the liver shrinking was releasing toxins, but I'm not really sure what is causing it. Is anyone else experiencing this?

So my surgery was 3/29/2017. I woke up and was in recovery for about an hour and a half waiting for my room. I was given ice chips while in recovery because my throat hurt so bad from the intubation tube that was there and the g tube testing for leaks. I was pretty much in from Wednesday-Friday morning. I got up and started walking Wednesday night. Did about 4 laps of the 4th floor. They had me on blood pressure medications, heparin twice a day, and roxicodone to help with pain and sleep. Thursday and Friday I finally got up and walked enough laps to start passing gas. Not a lot, but enough to make stomach feel better. Food wise I wasn't hungry. I pretty much set a timer…
