POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Life after weight loss surgery. Recovery, diet stages, nutrition, labs, complications, and weight regain, whether you are weeks or years out.

Ugh. So hard. I'm struggling with the liquid diet- cheated today and had a cup of chili and I'm regretting it. I know I can do it it's just the need for real food that I'm caving on. Had my endoscopic sleeve a week ago. Anyone else have this struggle? Any suggestions with how to get over this hump and be more consistent?

So I've lost 30 pounds and have been sticking to my nutrition plan but woke up last night finding I had eaten some hard candies! Yikes! I feel like an ass

Hey everyone had my operation 14th Jan this year and was 131kg (288lbs) had the sleeve everything went great, back on the fitness and most solids lost 27kg (59.5lbs) so far not sure if that is good or bad compared to other people but I am happy it is slowly coming off So question time, at the moment I am using little 250ml tubs which I think is about 8 oz but not sure, what size of portions are people currently on when they are this far out, how to measure out your meals? I worried I am going to stretch, I am stopping when I am full and using side plate and kids fork just wondered actual portions other people are having

So I have surgery april 26th, I'm getting so close haha but one of my main fears is getting excess skin where ill need surgery. I am 5'6 275 pounds and I am 20 years old. I definitely carry my weight well right now and no one ever thinks I'm above 220. I do plan on getting my boobs done after but I'm so worried about my arms and stomach. I know ill either have lots of excess skin or ill be okay, and there's no way of knowing until I get there but I'm curious of anyone with similar age and stats could give me some insight on if they had lots or minimal excess skin! I haven't taken any pictures full body in a while bc its embarrassing to me lol but this picture was when i w…

I have a question about protein. The Hospital were I had my surgery has a BariatricPal center to help you live your life. I am 5 days post op the Bariatric center told me isopure is ok, but they recommend unjury because muscle milk light and a few of these others are illegal protein meaning they claim they have more than they do. For example one product has 22 grams and claims 30. I do not really know where to go with this my Dr on the other hand states that premiere protein is fine and that they bariatric center just wants to sale you there products.

What are people eating 21 days out? It seems I am pretty tolerant, however I am being very cautious of chewing extremely well. I am doing mostly soft foods. What I am wondering about is it ok to eat foods that are a little spicy, even if I blend them, or do I need to stick to more bland foods, and if so when can I start with a spicier food? (sorry for the sentence that seems to go on and on and on!)

I just bought the Patchmd multivitamin to try, I'm wondering if anyone has used these and seen adifference in their blood work. Specifically, if someone was deficient before using it and has seen improvement after. I keep forgetting to take my vitamins throughout the day, this patch seems so convenient, I just can't find any reliable studies online to see how efficient they are.

Hey guys, having bit of a melt down so just need some words of advice. My starting weight on March 13th was 285. I went through a 2 week presurgicial diet, where I dropped 20 lbs. Monday March 27th I had my gastric sleeve surgery done at 265 lbs. I was losing steadily down to 248.8 lbs. That was my Friday weight. Then my surgeon told me to take some miralax, which I did plus some benafiber and even ended up doing a suppository and pooped a little Saturday morning. But my weight went up to 249.4. I was like wtf. Then yesterday I ended up walking 15,000 steps and getting in some water and 2.5 premiere protein shakes (In my full liquids phase). I am the EFFING same weight t…

I had my surgery on April 4th at 5 pm here in the UK. I spent 48 hours in the hospital on fluids as I was unable to keep anything down for the first 24 hours. I swear it was due to the pain meds. I was vomiting blood. I was able to shower and walk around, but continually felt sick to my stomach. Finally, Thursday I refused pain meds and have felt good. I'm not sick to my stomach any more and I have not thrown up. I even went to the store Friday and walked around. I have 4 incisions which itch more than they are sore. I do have a few problems though. My first problem I am having is under my left breast I have this huge amount of pressure (almost feels as if I pulled a musc…

So, I had surgery March 16 and lost 25 lbs the first week! Then didn't lose anymore and started gaining weight! I have reduced my calories by 1/4 of what I used to eat and I'm following the diet! (No carbs, very limited fats). My family is losing weight like crazy from our lifestyle changes! Anyways, I went and had my thyroid panel done and I have hypothyroid. Could this explain my weight gain???? I feel so depressed, I've done what's asked and even started excercising....

Hi I need help with info about crushing your prescription pills. I was told before surgery I would need to crush my prescription pills for a while after surgery. I am 21 days post surgery today and crushing my pills and drinking them together with Water or applesauce is starting to make me sick. Most of my bariatric friends told me they quit crushing after 2 weeks. I called my doctor office because I have not been back for my follow up yet and the nurse said one year. I told her she was crazy and to please clarify. She sent me an email later that said doctor wants you to crush for one year. I had the Gastric Sleeve at Mayo Clinic. Jacksonville. I feel like I'm broken, or my pouch is lol. I've been doing great since surgery and advanced to pureed foods a couple days ago. My directions are 1.5-3oz per meal. I started off slow of course with like 1.5 oz and was fine. I plate 3 oz of pureed and I am able to finish it with no issues. I eat slowly and chew the tiny little pureed bites very well. I stop eating after 20 minutes or so per my nutritionists instructions to avoid grazing. Anyways I feel broken because I see so many people say they can barely eat an ounce without feeling full. I'm definitely satisfied at my 3 oz but feel like I should be more restricted like other people??

Hello, I'm not quite 5 days post op and am doing pretty well with Water and Protein shakes. I've had a little applesauce and some yogurt, and both went down well. I am on full purées, so I know there is more I am able to eat, but I'm really nervous about trying new things. I was thinking about making Eggface's ricotta bake, but is that going to be too acidic with the tomato sauce? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have been sick to my stomach all day. Can't get through 6oz of protein shake without feeling terrible. I have PCOS and primarily stuck with whole eating seasonal and organic. My stomach is having a hard time with all of this fake food. I haven't had jello in a decade same with pudding. I don't eat cream of chicken soup from a can. I've made my own broth which helped a bit, but mostly I feel terrible. I can stomach popsicles and water. My 3 week post op is this Wednesday. I am switching to soft foods and hoping this phase will go better. Anyone else dealing with this??

I'm six days post-op and have an uncomfortable sensation of my insides moving/readjusting near my sleeve when I get up or walk around. It hurts a little and makes me a tad nauseous, but it only lasts for about a few seconds. Is this a normal sensation? I would love to hear your experience! I'm hoping this feeling goes away soon.

Hi, I'm 10 days post-op and I've been reading lots of forums like this one through the past week and a half. I've seen folks who are on full liquids like myself saying how long it takes them to finish something (say a 16 oz Protein Drink - one woman said this took half the day). Now, my pace has definitely changed and is still changing post-op (heartburn, fullness, and learning that if I feel uncomfortable in the slightest I should just stop eating), but my ability to finish certain things varies in time. A bowl of lentil Soup took 7 hours to comfortably finish, a thin tomato soup took 3-4, a Protein drink about 45 minutes, and two cups of miso takes about an h…

  46. Hello Everyone. A bit of back story: My coworker/friend had his surgery on February 1st this year. Was out of work for the month of February and came back to work the first week of March. We are a group of 4 friends at work (we are all close and not just coworkers) and the 3 of us support him greatly with his new lifestyle change but we are concerned with his eating habits and falling back into old ways. We've spoken to him about how he feels/thinks throughout his whole process and at first he was so excited because the weight was dropping off so fast, he was strict with his liquid and pureed diet but once he got cleared from his doctor to "ea…

I had a follow-up visit with my surgeon last week (I'm four months out) and was telling her how I'm having a problem with taking medication for insomnia, becoming a little cloudy mentally after about 45 minutes, and then getting out of bed to eat even though I'm not hungry and have brushed my teeth etc. I was simply letting her know this and asking for her advice (I'm already addressing this with the medication prescriber and my therapist). I also told her I'd joined a mindful eating group associated with her practice with the intention of addressing this behavior. She suggested that I get more external support like joining Weight Watchers. I was quite taken aback by this…
