I’m going into day 6 post op and I have an On-Q pump that is almost empty and will need to come out probably in the next 12hrs. My pump only numbed the area below my diaphragm to above my belly button, and only reached 1 of my 3 lower incisions. One of my incisions and the muscle under it still hurts like hell. So I’m really nervous that when I take this thing out, I’m going to start having upper abdominal pain. Just looking to hear about your experience you removed the catheter and what happened when you weren’t numb any longer.

Has anyone had to deal with any sleeve post op complications not related to a leak, or just had a hard time healing in general? I am 8 days post op and I don’t feel like I’m healing well. I have a significant amount of pain in my upper right quadrant. The whole area is still swollen and tender to the touch. Actually a bit more than “tender”. This morning I did a gentle cough, and searing ripping pain went through the area. It actually made me cry hard. I called my surgeon yesterday about the swelling and the general pain in the area and they weren’t concerned and told me to take my pain meds. But now that this searing pain from practically clearing my throat has ca…

Since surgery on 11/13, I've had moments of dizziness. Usually it happens if I bend over or squat down to do something; when I stand back up my legs get that "static TV" feeling and I get pretty dizzy for 5-10 seconds. Today, I did a yoga video (note: I've never done yoga before) and I got dizzier and dizzier, especially after stretches that locked my legs. At one point, I went from lying down to a sitting up move, and I got so dizzy I felt like I was going to fall over. It's the kind of dizzy like after you've been drinking, and you lay down in bed, the room spins, everything. The last dizzy spell left me feeling nauseous and just terrible for about an hour. I definitel…

Hi everyone! This is my first post so if you respond I really appreciate it! Okay, so for the past two months I have been thinking about joining the gym. Whats is stopping me? 1. I dorm in my university and they do have a gym however, it is overly crowded and they have only a couple of machines. I feel uncomfortable being there. 2. Motivation 3. The cost Okay so I have been looking at a couple of gyms in my current county which is is Mercer County and I have thought about joining Planet Fitness. Only because it seems like it is a cheap alternative and it would be easy to get there. However, I was wondering if Planet Fitness has traine…

Morning all, I was sleeved Tuesday. Awful nausea coming out and spit up a couple things of red blood. No big deal given I was in the hospital. Stayed all day yesterday no problem. Drank 2 protein shakes and was sent home. Now I’ve been up since 2:00 nauseas and puking what looks to be old blood. Anyone else have this happen and is it something critical that the surgeon needs to know?

Trying to check-in with some folks that had their sleeve done last January like myself. For me I've been stuck at the same weight for the past two months. Focusing again on the little things. Upping my protein, cutting out carbs where I can, getting more active. This winter has slowed me down but now that the holidays are over I'm ready to get focused again. I am happy to say I didn't gain any weight over the holidays. That is a first ever for me so I need to find some silver lining for being in this stall for so long. Coming up on a year and it's hard to believe how much has changed. Despite some initial complications and a rough first month I'm so happy that…

Hello! I recently had surgery 1/2/2018. I’m worried this surgery isn’t going to work! I feel like I’m not going to change (I can’t picture myself weighing less.) I feel like I’m going to always look heavy, that no more of the weight is going to come off and that I’m not going to be able to change my eating habits. I am signed up for mental health behavioral classes, but not until March. I know a lot of the weight loss process is mental as well as diet & exercise. That being said I feel like I’m already struggling just 6 days post op!!! I’m on the full liquid diet right now and I can’t even seem to do that. I cannot get my protein shakes or vitamins in, I think t…

I had gastric bypass a year agro, all went well and I didn't have any complications. I rarely dump, only when I overeat or eat to much sugar, but that would only be like once a month at most. I just ate some cheese (no light version) and after that I started having heart palpitations with a heart rate around 135 bpm. I read that you can get that as a dumping syndrome but this is new to me, I always watch what I eat and rarely dump and when I do it's only some light discomfort. I'm feeling really uncomfortable right now, I'm kinda scared especially seeing I have such high heart rate and my chest hurts. But that's normal right, no need to see a Dr?

Hi Guys, So today marks my 5th day having the surgery! I was really scared going into the hospital at 5:00AM chanting to myself “I can do this” over and over. It all started great they took a urine sample and told me to change into a hospital gown, everything after that went by really fast I was in the operating room by 7:00AM. I remember waking up in the recovery room in pain. But I expected that and soon after they gave me pain meds I was fine. I stayed in the hospital over night and the next day I was allowed to go home with a full bag of medications. Today, I can eat 3 purée meals a day ya me! Also my life consists of taking small sips of water ever minute. I s…

Did anyone get the flu right after their surgery? I got my surgery the 28th and ended up getting the flu right afterwards and I’ve been sick since. Been throwing up and can’t keep anything in my stomach. Already been to the hospital twice as well. I meet with my surgeon on the 17th but we ruled out nothing surgical. Any tips on how to kick this bug?

Hi, all- had my sleeve done on Monday and am still in the hospital. Everything has been going pretty well except nausea- I have been throwing up a lot (mostly dry heaves) so they will be keeping me for a little longer just to make sure I’ll be able to get to enough fluids in when I get home. My question is whether anyone of you were throwing up 2 days after surgery like this, and I whether it stopped for you after the narcotics wear off? I am really hoping it’s just a reaction to the meds, but worried that I might be an unlucky one who is just going to have a lot of long term nausea along with the sleeve? Thanks in advance! Hope all my surgery buddies from the 8th are doi…

Hey everyone, I'm about one week down after surgery. I've followed my doctors plan to the "T" and have NOT cheated. I'm at about 70-80 grams of protein a day, 64 oz of fluids a day, I walk everyday, I do housework, I'm feeling good and almost back to normal. However... I've only lost 2 lbs!!! I lost a lot in my pre-op diet, 14 lbs, and I didn't gain any weight in the hospital. But every YouTube vlog and website I visit, everyone has these amazing first weeks with 10+ lbs lost and I wonder if I'm the only one who started out kinda slow? Is this normal for some of us? My stats: Heaviest- 267 Before Pre-op- 257 Surgery- 243 Today- 241

I am on a Quest to find relief. My doctor said all the pain I am experiencing is nerve damage and that it could last 6 weeks. I can't deal with this for 6 weeks. I think I will go crazy. It is only day 5 and I am getting a bit depressed. There is so much I want to do but I can't. Has anyone experienced it? Extreme burning pain that feels like you are being stabbed with a red hot knife? I feel it when I am in any position except laying on my right side. I feel it when I sit, stand, use my arms, or anything except laying on my right side...and there is a sitting position I can get into. What did you do to help it? Did anything work? How long did this last? I was gi…

Hi all! I'm suffering from sciatica. I had back pain before my surgery on 12/4 and I had an adjustment right before it. Unfortunately about a week after, I twisted the wrong way and my back has been killing me since. I thought it would get better but it hasn't. ?. I called my surgeon today and he is out until Jan 2. I want to visit the chiropractor but I fear it's too early.... anyone have any experience with this?

Hello everyone, I'm 11 days post op and today a had a stick of string cheese. I chewed it up very well but obviously it was a mistake. With the blizzard my protein shakes didn't come on time and I had to babysit last minute so I had the cheese. I plan on calling my doctor monday and letting him know. My concern is that I felt no restriction after eating the cheese, I haven't felt restriction regarding my fluids either. I'm worried that my sleeve was botched. Is this possible?? Btw the cheese did not harm me in anyway and I drank lots of water after, I plan on going back to full protein shake the remainder of my week until I can start greek yogurts.

3 days after op and gone through the regret and that's lifting slightly though I am so thirsty I want to down a crate of sugar free Ribena but alas no such luck, brutally honest I spent the last 2 days hoping I wouldn't wake up from each nap but to say is better, not alot of pain at all just the sickness, dizziness and weakness, stupid me didn't even think about the sickness... they have said it's alot to do with the anestetic and the fact I had major surgery ( total hyster) 3 months ago made this surgery last over 3 hours rather than the expected 1.... Will read though stories on here and hope my spirits get lifted as that seems to be my biggest issue.... took me comple…

1) I see a lot of people talk about not having an appetite for foods they previously enjoyed or not being able to swallow certain foods. Why is this? My naive thought process is that your stomach had a procedure but your taste buds didn't and why would something that happened to the stomach impact your ability to swallow certain foods? 2) I see people talk about not losing much weight or immediately having hunger again. Why is this? Is there a percentage of people that a smaller stomach doesn't work for? How can you not lose weight with a significantly smaller stomach {aside from poor food or liquid choices}. I know we all have different metabolism and our bodies …

For the past 4 days I've had constant diarrhea, along with feeling like I have to urinate every 2 15 minutes, but nothing coming out when I do try to pee. I feel awful and like I can't leave the house. I stopped eating any dairy and it still persists. I'm up until 5 or 6 every morning on and off the toilet. I'm MISERABLE. I couldn't get an appointment until Thursday (5 days away) and was wondering if anyone has had an experience like this and what may have helped. Thanks

Hey everyone, sorry if this is a dumb question but I am getting sleeved on Monday and know what to eat post op with clears but I’m not sure how often to try an eat the clear foods. Is this the same frequency as regular meals (8am, noon, 5pm) or are you trying to eat at different intervals. I see that you should be hydrating 1 -2 oz every 15 mins but didn’t know if broth, jello, etc are at specific different times. Just want to be successful and appreciate your experience and thoughts.

Sleeved 12-26. Had some issues day 2-4 with sipping/drinking and upper abdominal cramping ... passed quickly but somewhat painful. That has gotten a bit better but Started noticing that that it does it randomly throughout the day and especially night. Allmoat like a hunger pain that turns into a cramp or spasm. Lasts about 10-15 sec but wake me from sleep. Is this normal from swelling and healing? Will it subside or Gould I be concerned ? Called surgeon office by no return call yet. 2 week Post op appt 1-9.

I was fine the first week on shakes and liquids but started my soft / pureed stage on post op day 7 and having a tough time. Tried one egg which was ok, 2 oz of cottage cheese not great but not horrible and then 1.5 oz of salmon and felt chest pain and horrible for about 2 hours. Next day cut everything down to 1 oz and that was better. More of the same with some other meals. Some good and some bad. Yesterday was the worst day. I had 3/4 of a scrambled egg and felt fine. Then started a shake 2 hours later and started to feel nauseous. It's actually the first time I felt it since surgery and ended throwing up. I only had about 1-2 oz. The only thing I did differently was c…

Surgery December 27, 2017. Within the last few days my mom has had lower leg weakness or at least trouble standing on her legs or bearing weight on them. That has improved but today she has foot pain(left foot). The pain was on the sole of her foot but it moved to the top of her foot and she can barely walk on it. She has to have assistance. She actually has to walk on her heels to get to the bathroom and back or walk. Is that normal? What could be causing the pain in her foot? No pain in the legs or discoloration. She has not been able to walk a lot due to her legs first and now her foot. Could she be weak from being immobile? Before her surgery she had (and still has )b…

I am taking the tiniest sips imaginable and it hurts! I'm having such a hard time getting fluids in and I'm a week out of surgery. Each time I take a sip, I have pain in my chest right below my rib cage and straight through to my back. It feels like it's probably gas pain, but I'm not positive. It makes taking my daily meds and Vitamins an all day event and it sucks. Is this normal? I'm terrified that this is some kind of sign of a leak. I've tried room temperature, refrigerated, and warm liquids. I've tried Water, Gatorade G2, apple juice, drinkable yogurt, DanActive, veggie broth, tomato Soup, and Oh Yeah (which is like Muscle Milk). Popsicles hurt too, but not as much.…

Has anyone else needed physical therapy after gastric bypass surgery to regain their strength. My mom had surgery 1 weeks ago. She went into the surgery with existing back problems and the pain Meds masked the back pain. Now that it’s worn off her back is starting to hurt. She says her legs are weak and she’s unable to put pressure on her legs and can only walk short distances. She mainly lays in the bed because it helps her back and stomach not to hurt. I Don’t know if the weakness is due to effects of surgery or her back problems. She needs to be able to walk to help her heal and get rid of gas and prevent blood clots. Think it would be a good idea to have PT come in th…
