It's been 17 days since my VSG, my doc and nutristionist want me to start on mashables, they said eventually I need to stop relying on Protein shakes so much and get my protein from meals. The problem right now is that nothing except liquid feels good going down. Maybe it is because I've been on a liquid diet for over a month now but I can't seem to digest solid food easily. I started with part of a scrambled egg mixed with Water and could barely swallow half of it. Today I attempted a couple small spoonfulls of refried Beans but that didn't go well either. I'm donig everything by the books: chewing thoroughly, taking small bites, making sure liquids have been 1/2 hour…

I was ready to commit to a life change and move forward with VSG right away, then learned that my insurance required the six month medically supervised diet. My heart sank, but i carried on. The reality is that this six months is already moving very quickly but for some reason I just can't commit. For the last two months I have been out of control with eating! I don't know if I'm just mourning what I think I will miss later or if I seriously just have no willpower. I am worried that if I can't commit to a new eating plan for six months, how will I be successful with the sleeve for the rest of my life? I keep telling myself that the sleeve will force me to do …

I was sleeved on the 13th and doing good. I went yesterday for my post-op appointment. Doc said everything was going good with me. I have lost 13.3 pounds since the 13th. I can now start eating mushies. However, I feel lost. I need all the help I can get: Will someone please give me a sample diet plan of what you ate during this time? Also, how much food should be ate at each meal? How do you know when you are full and to stop eating? If you have any good blogs or websites that offer meal plan examples or any type of vsg help that would be extremly helpful. What all Vitamins are you taking? Can you provide your Vitamin "schedule," as to when you take them? Also, what…

Hey y'all: Since I'm so close to goal and have been sort of bouncing around here for a couple of months, I have begun to focus on eating for long-term health. I'm interested to see how others eat for optimum nutrition and energy--eating for health and sustenance rather than necessarily for weight loss, although I absolutely do NOT want to gain anything back! Here's where I am: Breakfast: coffee with milk, shot of chocolate syrup (yeah, I know, but...), whole-grain Breakfast cookie (physician recommended since I'm thiamine-deficient) Snack: 1/4 c. almond/cranberry mix and finish the coffee Lunch: Small mixed salad with dark greens, tomato, cucumber, 1/4 avocado,…

I just came back for my doctor’s appointment, and as a few of you know I only weigh in with my doctor because I tend to either reward or neglect myself depend on if I am happy with what is on the scale. My goal has always been to focus on health and not just the amount of pounds lost (even though I am always happy to drop a lot of weight!) So here are my numbers so far. 12/1/11 287 1/3/12 260 2/10/12 249 2/24/12 246 Total loss since surgery 41 pounds I am down 3 pounds at this weigh in and I have mixed feelings about this. I’m happy for the loss, but my first reaction is really only 3 pounds?!?!? I need another way to look at this situation so I am reaching out…

I'm doing good and losing. Yesterday I veered off-plan. I stopped by the Cup to get some cupcakes for my DH and for myself. I was craving one of their tuxedo cupcake which is dark chocolate cake with buttercream icing. I know full and well that I cannot eat a whole one at all. I tend to cut a cupcake up like a cake so I get six or seven pieces of it over the week. Not last night...and I so paid for it too. After having dinner of 2oz of polish sausage, my husband presented me with a 1/3 of the cupcake. I was already full, but I ate it. The last 2-bites I knew I was at my limit, but I down it. Then I spend the next 3-hours with a sore sleeve....NOT doing that …

I had a meeting with my nutritionist today..she wants me to eat 1400 calories/no more than 180 g carbs/at least 120 g protein/30 g fat on days that I work out, and on the days I don't work out: 1200 calories/no more than 140 g carbs/at least 100 g protein/25 g fat. It seems like a lot..but she wants me to eat healthy carbs for my carb allowance so I guess that would be okay. Does this seem like a lot to anyone else? I will be one year out in March. I've been stuck between 197-199 for the past few weeks and want to lose more!

This is my first post on this site...And first of all let me just tell everyone "Thank You"! A friend of mine was sleeved back in October and I saw him working a Christmas Parade this past season and he looked great. Over the Christmas Hoidays, I researched the fool out of WLS options and all of you on this site helped me make the decision that a Vertical Sleeve was the right choice for me. I'm 41 and my BMI is 48.5. I'm very forunate to have great insurance. While on Holiday, I contacted my local WLS center and scheduled a consultation. My surgery date is Feb.14th (Talk about quick) The day was open and I thought it would be a great gift to my wife and kids. No…

OK, so my center recommends NO rice, bread, or Pasta until at least 45 days out. I don't really miss many of these things, but I was trying to think creatively about foods that I could eat in the mushie phase and I thought about meatballs. Where better to get a good meatball than at an Italian place? But, what a bummer that I could only have a meatball and no pasta. So thats when I thought about gnocchi! It's like pasta, but its potato based. So, if I can have mased potatoes, then why not gnocchi? My husband and I went to FIGO in Atlanta for lunch today. I had gnocchi with funghi sauce (mushrooms) and a meatball. I ate about 1/4 of the meatball and maybe four or five pi…

Has anyone signed up for everydayhealth.com? I stumbled on this site and for the past month I've been logging all of my food intake here. The thing I love the most is this site has recipes and if you don't know what to eat it has menus. If you don't like the menu it gives you the option to change it and print it. It also allows you to download phone apps. It caculates my excercises for me. if there is not a food listed that I ate, it will allow me to add a custom food. It also has a forum for support which I haven't used because I have all of you. You can join and it's free my screen name is DestinationSkinny. If you join, please look me up and befriend me. So I was sleeved on January 23rd. I've been having my Greek yogurt just fine. So I decided to try a little mashed potatoes (I hate soup in any shape or way). And the first time was fantastic....now it's been sitting in my chest. I just feel like anything I eat/drink just fills me up immediately. I think I have no hope of ever upping my calories enough to be successful. Did any of y'all feel that way or am I just being hella impatient? Thanks!

I've been roaming around looking through posts but I cant seem to find any answers Whats it like post op as far as diet? Are you drinking Protein shakes for the rest of your life? Can anyone take me week by week as far as their diet and what they could tolerate. Also what is an appropriate amount of protein to consume? Whats it like a couple months down the line? I have my pre surgery visit like 4 days before my surgery so I want to make sure Im prepared in advance. Thanx =)

I am 4 weeks 2 days post op and have been logging my calories in my fitness pal for a week. I'm getting anywhere from 650 calories/day all the way up to 1100 one day. I can find all kinds of information about what foods to eat and portion sizes, but what about actual calorie intake? My 1100 calorie day was because I juiced some fruits, added a banana and a protein shot and sipped on it over a couple hours. My Fitness Pal tells me everyday that I'm eating too few calories, but I think we're unique due to the nature of our surgery. Sure would love to know how many calories others are taking in.

hi fellow sleevers I never learned to cook. With my sleeve i need to learn. Today I had veal stew. I bought 1/4 lb. stew meat, cut it up really small, then cooked it. It was sooo good. Put the veal in one little medicine up - in my past life, i could have eaten it all right up. Now i have approximate 3 more dinners. Amazing, and i did it all by myself. Today veal, tomorrow....who knows.... Just wanted to share that if there is hope for me to cook, the door is open for all. kathy

I never had acid reflux prior to my sleeve surgery on 12/21/11 but it started during the 3rd week. I am unable to swallow the protonix pill so I got the granules prescribed and I have to take it every morning to prevent the reflux during the day. Has anyone else had this problem and how long does it last?

Hey Guys I have been losing weight pretty steadily since I have been sleeved, but my doc told me I need to get in more protein to maintain my muscle mass. For breakfast I feel restriction with the whites of two eggs, I throw out the yellow, but at lunch i had half a baby bel cheese and a slice of Boars head maple turkey (deelish, by the way) and I didn't really feel tight so i ate the other half and two more slices of turkey. Does this seem like a lot of food until restriction? the egg white seemed right on to me, they were small and the whites alone equalled about one medium egg, but a wheel of babybel and three slices of deli turkey seems like much. Im about7weeks out.…

So I'm in the pureed/blended stage and I'm aware that I can eat hot cereals. But, can I eat cold cereals? I'd like to soak regular Cereal in milk until it becomes mushy. I was afraid that it was a bit too much like eating soaked bread. I don't want it to expand in my stomach, but as you know regular cereal is already expanded when it's soaked in milk. Maybe I'm over-thinking this a bit too much, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Any suggestions?

I was sleeved December 1st. 2011 and already in this time I have gone through so much, nothing bad, just the learning process of the new sleeve. I am losing about a pound a day I am currently at 260 (and this was the last day of my period so expect to drop more this week), so my highest was 303 then the day of surgery I was 287 and as of 1/3/12 I am 260. The best part is just how good I feel it is like I hit a switch and I feel so much better. The eating can be tough mainly I have to slow down a bit and I’m having trouble tolerating the vitamins, and I’m completely over the protein shakes. I am down a pant size and expect to be down another in the next few weeks. The…

I just entered my pureed stage. Yesterday, I was allowed to eat pureed tuna and any kind of egg. So of course I made a pureed tuna salad with tuna, eggs, light mayo, mustard, and black pepper. Later that evening I ate two tablespoons of pureed refried Beans. I got incredibly full so I stopped. No upchucking, the food didn't get stuck in my throat, NOTHING. Just this uncomfortable fullness. Great right? Wrong.....it didn't let up until this afternoon. So I started again with the tuna. After three spoonfuls, I'm full again. Why is it taking so long for the food to digest? Should I go back to full liquids?

Hi, I"m new in the process and am trying to think ahead. What kind of Protein drinks do you drink? I have a chocolate whey Protein Drink that I like and I was wondering if that would work? Or is it a specific kind of protein drink? Also, I'm wondering, aren't Protein Drinks high in calories? I see there is a new protein drink about by Special K and wondered if that would work too. Their bars are pretty good. Anyway, thanks!

I had eggs for my first semi solid food and it was awesome. The only thing is I just had one egg and nothing more. I m quite full now and don't want anything else. Will this change? I'm just worried about getting enough Protein daily. Also, why is it that we need to separate drinking liquids? I was kinda thirsty.

Hey Gang Just wondering about capacity and the sleeve. Im about two months out and have been losing good, but I notice the capacity in my sleeve has increased. When I first returned to food two pieces of deli turkey felt like thanksgiving dinner and yesterday I was able to eat 4oz of lobster and 2 oz of shrimp for dinner. Im not sure if this is a lot for my sleeve as im still learning it, but I wasn't uncomfortable at all! I thought my stomach was the size of an egg, that seems a lot larger than an egg to me. Please give me your thought about the volume of food and if you went through anything like this and how'd you handle it.

I am 15 days post op and have unofficially moved myself to stage 3. I was supposed to be on liquids until Jan 5th. I've tolerated everything fine (scrambled egg, hard boiled egg, tuna, tilapia, even canned veggies). Is it possible something could still go wrong if I'm tolerating the food okay? I'm getting nervous. Also, I have a tender area on my stomach that's just kind of appeared the last few days. And it seems to be a little rigid/hard. I'm not sure if this is normal post op healing or what. I'm freaking myself out. Thanks for any input!

Just finished a trial sample of both the chocolate and the strawberry - the Celebrate samples are only 4 oz. Not alot ot go into depth about either one, medium-thin consistency, mild smell, mediocre taste. I would have to say I am neutral on these...hmmm Sorry! not so much of a review after all... One more thing - you will want to blend these - they did not stir well.

My surgeon, among others recommends limiting meals to 3 times per day once you are on solids. This conflicts with every nutritionist and personal trainers recommendations I've got pre-sleeve- the rule has always been to eat smaller meals (obviously the sleeve takes care of that) consisting mostly of Protein every 3 hours (roughly 5-6x a day), because beyond that point your metabolism can drop. Is there a reason we are typically recommended to limit our intake of food to 3 "meals" a day and avoid the snacking? I don't ask this because I wish to nibble throughout the day, but because I'd like to be on a track that will keep my metabolism as high as possible and get m…

I am 7wks postop and can eat about 1/2 cup of food at a time. Per my diet instructions, I eat 5 meals a day and drink liquids in between. In the beginning it didn't bother me that I ate something frequently because I just don't get much for calories. I still don't get much for calories and I always start my meals with proteins first. However, I feel like I'm getting paranoid about how often I am eating and the fact that people ask me questions about my eating habits. I have read about other people being told to eat three meals a day and wonder if that's the way to go. At the same time, I barely get in 750 calories a day with my 5 meals and liquids. If I cut out two meals …

Hi to All!! I am over 5weeks out (Aug 25th) and I was wondering when folks started to eat salad? My post-op diet gave me the green light on adding foods back in. I bought these fantastic organic baby greens from Trader Joe's but am scared to use them just yet. They are about three days from being tossed. I am still having a hard time with Protein and I was thinking a salad with tiny chopped chicken sounds pretty good. What says the board? Thanks in advance. Susie

Hi all, I was wondering if there are any vegetarian sleevers out there! Are there any good Protein sources other than tempeh, Beans, etc.? I don't want to live on shakes forever and I also want a variety of choices............ except meant of course! I eat fish, but it can get pretty boring eating the same thing everyday. I don't see my doc for another couple weeks so I was just wondering. Thanks in advance.
