I've read a lot of others posts pertaining to Post-Op diets, but I am somewhat confused still about the liquid stage and Protein drinks. My question is: Are we allowed to add stuff (fruits, PB, syrups, yogurt, SF Jello powders, etc...) into our protein drinks/shakes in the full liquid stage? I CANNOT stand the smell or after taste of the Protein Drinks, but have found that if I can add a little PB, syrup, etc...I can handle it.

OK I'm 7 weeks post op and I'm still having trouble with regular food. Is this normal? I do great with thin liquids, soups (mainly broths) but when it comes to thick liquids or regular type foods if seems like they get stuck in my throat. This even happens with protein drinks!! It's soooo frustrating to me!! Will this go away?

Okay, i have a couple of questions for clarification, and would appreciate input. I know there are different diets and mine is 1 clear, 2 full, 2 puree, 2 mushy. My questions are; Is 1% milk clear or full? Cottage cheese is mushy or earlier? I loves me some cottage cheese! Egg drop, which stage do you no longer have to strain it? SF pudding, which stage? Lastly, which stage could I add in SF cool whip to Protein drinks and puddings? Thanks for any help guys, some of this stuff can be pretty confusing. Or maybe the drop in calories of the pre-op diet have turned my brain to mush, lol. Have a great day and thanks for reading.

What could happen if someone slacks on the protein drinks less than a month out from surgery? I have no excuses except that I forget to make and drink them. And when I do it is maybe once every couple days.

I was sleeved last June and have since lost over 80 pounds. I still have 20-50 left to go (depending on how I look and feel when I get there) but I have hit a plateau and am confused. For the last several weeks (maybe longer) I have been bouncing around between 169 and 173. I decided to really faithfully track my calories to have a better understanding of what was really going into my body. The results amazed me. My average is about 800 but it can vary anywhere from 500-1300. Funny how things change. The days when I thought I was eating constantly, I was still eating low calories. I think my carbs are a bit high averaging around 80 grams but all from complex sources. My s…

I am just 3 days post op, So far it has not been easy but today I'm slightly feeling like myself at least. My problem is my insides feel like they're gurgling constantly. I can feel it and hear it. Also every once in a while I have a stabbing pain in my stomach that goes away quickly. I can't tell if I'm hungry or if it's just the surgery and will get better as I heal. Has anyone else had these problems?

Hi everyone! I am new to this world, and trying to get as much info as possible. Right now I am in the middle of my 6 month diet plan required by my insurance; I am hoping to get sleeved by the end of this summer! So here is where I need your help and expertise: I need ideas for foods high in Protein, to have post-op. I know I will do Protein shakes, but would also like to focus my food choices on those that are high in protein. Here is my dilemma: I am really picky. I do not like cheese, yogurt, or any seafood. I cannot stomach chicken-tuna-egg-ham salad. I do like meats, scrambled eggs, Beans, and Peanut Butter. Anything else I am missing? I am really nervous…

Friday was my son's birthday and we took him to an indoor waterpark. All day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we ate out. I swam a lot too but I guess not nearly as much as I ate. I ate some bad stuff too. 1/2 of a starbucks bear claw, a chicken tender and handful of fries, sweet tea 1/2 of a dove chocolate bar. The point of this post is, when I was reading about VSG I only read posts about how easy it was for the weight to fall off. It has been relatively easy to lose as opposed to dieting preop but it is NOT a magic cure all. Probably those post were out there and I just decided not to read them or to think that wouldnt' be me. The fact is that you do have to watch what you…

Hello, As per my post op directions I am following the Protein first rule; but I am wondering if there is a time when that changes? Is it a forever thing? Do I do this just while I am losing? Will there ever be a time, in the near future, when I can eat my veggies first? Any long term sleevers out there with some wisdom for me?! Thanks in advance =]

I asked one member this on a personal reply but I thought I would put it out there to anyone .. I noticed many of the posts and ideas for food once yu get to "regular" food include bread, and pastries etc... I was told by my doctor not to eat bread, pasta, or rice. He gave me the impression that it would clog my sleeve. Also am not supposed to eat oatmeal, celery, asparagus and artichokes due to their fiberous qualities. Some people say they eat anything they want but in moderation... is this a personal thing? Am I just going to have to experiment to see what I can and can't tolerate? I think the things I miss the most are crackers, chips and nuts. If I chew these well e…

It seems like there are many different "times" out there for how long you should wait to eat/drink. I have been doing no drinks 30 min before or after a meal but im reading where some surgeons say wait 90 min after you eat to drink something...that seems kinda crazy to me but now im worried that im not giving my food enough time to go through me before i drink...i would think this would be more of a scientific black and white type of thing since wouldn't it be pretty standard as to how long it takes a tummy to digest before its empty and ready for liquids? then why the many time ranges out there? any thoughts?

Hi, I would like some opinions. Please just the facts no judgmental diatribes.... I had VSG and it went great. Only problem is I decided to stay MX for a few months (business went very well and I could afford to do this).... Margaritas by the case full $1.50 a pop.....best time of my life...my neighbors even remark that they can see the weight loss which is cool So 5 months out I've only lost 30 pounds. The good news is I would have GAINED weight without the surgery... The bad news is I want to lose weight faster. I'd like to take adipex for about 3 months to accelerate my weight loss. Does anyone know a good DR in the TJ area? MY SISTER IS AN RN AND SHE SAID …

Hi All, While preparing my daughter's baby food (pureed sweet potatoes, apples, pears, squash, green Beans, sweet peas) I began to wonder if I should prepare some for me during my "mushy stage." I will be taking a Protein "shot" (liquid) of 18 grms of proteinsper tablespoon (2X a day) in addition to my other "liquids" the first month. I really want to make sure I get my protein in. So I thought with the added boost of the protein "shot" it may be okay to incorporate fresh pureed veggies during the mushy stage (3 weeks out) to mix it up and add other nutrients. What do yo think? PS- Tommorow is the day!

Hello all, I am 5 days post op and am going through full liquids for the next 2 weeks. I'm already sick of creamy soups. I'm having trouble with protein shakes, they all taste awful. I have been doing some greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, sugar free popsicles, cream soups, cream of wheat... any other suggestions? I did see one poster mention using a light alfredo sauce as a soup, that sounds promising! Thanks!

So I've been an idiot. My exfiance came by for a visit and well I have been bad. She was here for two days... during those two days... I ate some pretty stupid things : 7 pieces fried calimari with a red bell pepper and black bean ragout ... 1/4 of a corn dog .... and 2oz barbecued asian pork ... and worst of all 1/2 a blood orange martini. I know that I'm an idiot but she was in town and I'm hoping this could be a start of us rekindling so I took her to eat at all of our favorite places... and well I got caught up with things. We also ... well were intimate. As for the food, well it opened a can of worms because now I want small portions of all my favorite foods…

Hello fellow sleevers, I am 6 1/2 mths post op now and my hair is still falling out albeit slower than at first. i have noticed an abundance of grey hair coming through, both on the regrowth and on the longer, older hair. My question then, is simple, should I dye my hair - to get rid of the pesky grey - or leave it a while longer? As you can see from my avatar pic, it is non descript mousy brown colour... Hmmm not sure what to do!

I will be 1 month post op tomorrow and I am 8 lbs away from being in onederland!! I never thought I would get there so quickly. I feel wonderful other then a pulled muscle in my left shoulder area "got sick one night after eating and the force from vomiting caused a pulled muscle" I am eating everything I was eating prior to surgery minus the deserts, sodas, etc. My protein always comes first. If I get full off of meat alone then so be it. Atleast I got the healty part of the meal in.. I did however have a cheat moment more of a span of 3 days. I made my children cookies one day and set one aside for me. It took me 3 days to eat that one cookie and after I felt horrible …

I saw the comments about straws on the cabonation page. My Dr never mentioned that - what is that about. My Dr essentially told me to eat twice as much Protein as anything else but to eat whatever I want. Choose healthy foods MOST of the time so I stay nutriitionally balanced.

I've found that the sleeve has made me be more aware of the food than before. It isn't like I wasn't aware of food, heck that's all I thought about. But I would mindlessly eat and eat and eat never really enjoying the food or tasting it. It was just a way to shut off or numb my brain. I didn't care the times of day or what I was drinking with my meal. Now I have to be aware to get good nutrition. To eat several times a day or I'll forget to eat at all. I eat slowly and chew well. To get whatever I want to drink before eating. To stop eating or drinking 90 minutes before bed or I will be up with heartburn all night. To never eat before I lay down. Not to overdo it on carb…

Sleeved 1 week ago and my tummy is rebelling...lol Tired of protein shakes, jello, and broth! I am hungery, but am at a loss as to what to eat now. Currently my family is having a dinner of pizza hut in our dining room as I sit in my room furiously typing at my keyboard! Grrrrr I know I need to eat, but I dont think I can choke down any more protein shakes, jello, or broth. I have had cream of wheat for 2 nights for dinner, but cant bear the thought of eating any of the choices I have. Is it bad to just go to sleep? LOL Lord give me strength.

hello fellow sleevers, As we are entering a new year and a new decade, I thought it might be a good idea to start it with a fresh sheet as such and a positive attitude. I really want to kick start my weight loss again as I have been losing really slowly and I am feeling a little frustrated and despondent. I am diong all the right things; eating three times a day, concentrating on Protein and liquids, working out, but my negative attitude and my harsh thought process are not doing me any favours! I definately need to be kinder to myself! So, with that in mind, I am thinking about going back to the liquid phase or at least partically liquid phase. I am thinking alon…

Just thought I would pass on what helped me stay SANE during the PRE-OP and I also have some of this in POST-OP. Of course, consult your doctor to make sure it is OK for you and your plan. My doctor had me on a liquid diet 800 calories or less. The mainstay of my diet is fat free cottage cheese - a powerhouse of low calories & Protein. Fat free Greek yogurt is another one of my main staples. I also love a yogurt drink called Keefer from Publix that I can have a few sips if I don't have time to eat and it fills me up for few hrs. Lasagna - fat free cottage cheese, spaghetti sauce, small amount of Parmesan cheese Mexican - fat free cottage cheeses, salsa or nach…

My surgery is scheduled for a week from tomorrow (12/28)! My surgeon has me on the liquid diet for a week pre-op. In preparation I bought a Magic Bullet today and had a question about smoothies: are they okay while on the full-liquid diet post op? I know that I can have them during the pre-op diet, but was curious if they would be okay post op. I'm terrified of messing up the staple line and developing complications, so don't want to do anything that could be a problem. Thanks all!

Hello I am getting sleeved on Dec 27, and am starting to prepare for my post op diet. So far the only thing I really have is a sample set of Chike protein supplements. Im reading on different posts that tastes change after surgery so not to invest in one type of protein drink, so should I just gather a whole bunch of samples? Also, I would like to know if I can get some assistance in creating a kind of checklist of items that "post oppers" have used through the clear liquid, full liquid and mushy stages, as well as any good recipes or tricks that you have discovered. I am a creature of habit and I don't have much variety in my diet, but I know things are going to chan…

I am 5 days post-op and I am having serious issues getting my protein drinks in. I was given protein slams in the hospital that have 42 gramsof protein in them, but I just can't get them down. They are so nasty! I try to sip on them and I gag everytime. I also tried putting some protein powder in jello but it doesn't really dissolve and just settles to that bottom, yuck again. Does anyone have any suggestions about getting any protein in? I'm only really eating jello and broths right now and I'm worried that I am going to start getting weak from the lack of protein. Why can someone make a protein vitamin?!?!?

Day One of liquid diet, and the protein drinks don't seem to be sitting well on my stomach. I'm getting a lot of heartburn, gas, etc. and feeling sick to my stomach after drinking them. Consequently, I've only had two of the five I was supposed to drink. I take Prevacid on a regular basis for reflux, but it doesn't seem to help with this. Any suggestions?
