How soon were you able to return to work and what kind of work do you do? If you don't want to disclose exactly what you do, please give me an idea of how much time you spend sitting, standing and bending. I'm concerned about how much time I'll need to take off and trying to plan ahead. I stand a good part of the day and am usually slightly bend over at the waist working on clients. I also walk up a lot of stairs. I work for myself and can go back to work scheduling a break between each client at first if I need to. How long until you could do whatever physical activity you wanted (within reason)? (not due to being overweight, just due to surgical healing).

I'm about 4 months post op and have lost about 65 lbs. I have been on solids for like 2 1/2 months now. I am so afraid that I am eating to much, like I've seen people say that they can only eat like the size of a chicken. But with me it varies, I realize the density and consistency of the food makes a difference but it still worries me. Like I take a fiber 1 yogurt and emerald 100 calorie pack nuts to work for lunch, then when I get home I eat like amsmall bowl of chili or something and find myself like eating like 5 or 6 triscuts throughout the evening. I'm just wondering if its all in my head from all the years of being forced to clean up my plate as a child and then…

Im a little worried. I know im not supposed to compare myself to others but ive been reading the boards here and im worried i am able to eat too much. Some posts Ive read here say you have to eat fluids only for 2 weeks, then mushies for 3 months!! Wheras my Dr said to "build up to eating normally in the next month" . Ive also read that some peoples dr's have said no strenuous exercise for 4 to 6 weeks, wheras my Dr said i could go back to Rollerderby within 2 weeks... I know VSG is a new thing here in Scotland but still!! Im exactly 14 days post op and i can already eat fairly normally. Yesterday I had my Protein shakes/water, a chicken/sweetcorn tortilla wrap,…

I am starting to investigate having the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) surgery after seeing it on the news last week (me and countless others). One of the things about it that interests me is that part of the stomach where the ghrelin hormone is produced is removed. On the news report the Louisiana surgeon says most of his patients don't get hungry..."ever..." And there are other things on the internet that state it, but I have yet to hear or read anything about it from the patient point of view. How true is this? How does this really make you feel? How does it affect hunger and/or appetite? I can't imagine that people just wake up from surgery and never feel …

I had the VSG in October. I am 2.5 weeks post-op and I have eaten oatmeal and Soup the entire 2 weeks. I have some Jello, yougurt, but I get tired of them really quick. Im very picky with what I eat. Thats the problem. Im wondering when I would be able to eat eggs, Beans, mashed potatoes, etc. What can I start eating at 3 or 4 weeks post op?

Hello, My son age 36 and over 350 lbs. has seen the Vertical Sleeve procedure and has seriously decided to have the surgery. He has no insurance so I will help support his efforts. He is selling his cherished red Corvette to finance this surgery. He has tried everything and really wants to do this. He is considering a Doctor at Tulane in New Orleans. Does anyone know a doctor in OHIO. Like at Cleveland Clinic or Ohio State. He wants to do outpatient and that is a worry. He likes to drink, have a beer or three on the week-ends -can he do this - he fights the hunger hormone and thinks he can give up the food --why can't he just try eating only 4 oz. of food every tw…

I am just over 2 months postop and was wondering how many calories a day I should be eating? I haven't meticulously tracked my food for a few weeks like I did in the beginning and sometimes I feel like maybe I am eating too much, so I tracked what I ate today and it was 665 calories. Too much? Too little? Is it okay? :001_tongue:

I am currently dealing with something I really don't understand. For the past couple weeks I've had problems with a lack of energy as I have posted before. I dramatically increased my protein intake and began eating more and more food. Basically anytime I could possibly eat something I did so. I have absolutely zero hunger so this has honestly be unpleasant to do so. I've noticed on days that I eat more food I lose weight. Yes I am a daily weigher but seriously, I can lose a pound a day by simply eating more food. I don't understand this. I'm not a breakfast person, so I drink Slimfast with Soy Milk and a protein drink as soon as I can handle it after drinking the 8ozs. L…

Hi everyone! I am 11 days post op and am still having difficulty with my liquid diet. I am suppose to be taking low sodium, low in fat soups. I tried purchasing one low in sodium and low fat soups from the market but they are very disgusting so I decided to once in a while buy chinese soups. I really love Wonton Soups but my fear is that they have a lot of salt and that they are not healthy. Can anyone give me any good recipes that they had while they are on their liquid diet? It would be real helpful... Thanks!!

Hi all, I do not think I'm eating enough calories so my body is going in starvation mode. Ive been stuck at 600-900 per day. How can I figure out exactly how many calories per day that I need to eat in order to lose weight. My scale has been on 21lbs for a week now. I know it needs to be upped, but I dont want to up it and still be under the amount needed. Thank you in advance.

Ok guys so here is my deal, I was sleeved on August 27, 2010, I ended up spending two nights in the hospital due to pain control. I got out on Sunday after rough (and I mean rough) Monday and Tuesday I woke up Wednesday feeling like I could conquer the world. I decided to see how some food would go down so I made my nephew a frozen burrito and cut the tail end off; it went down fine. Later on I walked past a tray of fish sticks I ate two and they went down with little trouble too. I am worried that this this my make it a bit harder to me to lose weight, I know that the surgery is a tool but after reading over some of the stories that others post about being on a liqui…

It seems every dr is all over the map on how soon you can have non-liquid foods post op. I am only 10 days out but for the last 3 days, I have had 3-4 bites of "mushy" food, once or twice a day. The little bit of food in my stomach actually makes it feel more settled. I've always been that way - all liquid and I feel queasy. Now I'm worrying maybe I better back off. I didn't get surgery to ruin it all. Then I noticed some drs, let their patients eat after a week or so. Can anyone explain the different rules of thought and reasoning behind them? I had sleeve plication ... Deb

I didn't know where else to post this question & I really want to know...has anyone tried to drink a soda since they have had the sleeve surgery? I think that's the part that's bothering me the most...is worrying that after my surgery I won't be able to drink my Diet Dr. Peppers! Just curious to know if you really have to completely stop them after the sleeve! Someone out there certainly has tried, so please share your comments! Thanks!

I am posting in this in 2 seperate places in order to get a variety of opinions. I am just curious why it is that doctor's post-op diets vary so much from doctor to doctor? I am on clears still and going CRAZY, 7 days out. I notice the Cornell program discharges people on soft foods? Huh? Any insight, just for my own knowledge would be great! Thanks so much.

Ok after I got the clearance from insurance(they told me it would be at least 3 weeks before I even would be scheduled) my surgeons office called Tuesday Sept 21st and gave me a surgery date of Monday Sept 27th. At that time she told me to start on a liquid diet I had already had breakfast and lunch by then, so I started the liquid diet the next day the 22nd, my dilema I struggled and slipped twice since then now my Surgery is tomorrow and I am scared, But the other dilema is if originally I was told I would need to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks and I was scheduled for surgery with only 5 days of a liquid diet how important is it really? my BMI is 43 wt 267 ht 5feet 6…

Well, I wrote this on another thread, but that's what I get for not looking around first. So here goes: I'm on day 5 of my 14 day pre-op diet (I'm getting sleeved on 9/27). Some days I'm okay but others I feel like all I do all day is eat. I've been sticking to no carbs and no sugar. Well, except for when I had some honey mustard with chicken tenders the other day. The sugar in it made my whole body feel like it was alive. LOL. Anyhow, I'm wondering how others are coping. Are there any recipes you can share because I am going to strangle myself if I eat chicken and green Beans one more time, and I still have 9 days to go.

Hello fellow sleevers... Just thought I would put this out there to see if any one has been in the same or similar position... I am nearly 9 weeks post op and I feel great. The healing process for me was ok and I had no issues at all!! My weight loss is good and I am not complaining (honest) in fact, I can honestly say that I have never lost 29lb in 9 weeks before, in my life, EVER!!! However, my weight loss is sooooo inconsistent and I am really frustrated by this, I had a stall from 2 1/2 weeks to around week 5 and then I lost a few pounds and then nothing again...!!!! Has anyone else experienced this; I was sorta hoping that I would lose a steady amount weekly (…

I will be traveling in week 6 after my VSG. And the worst part is that I am doing the West Coast to East Coast jaunt so there will be a whole day either in the air or at airports. Without being able to take any protein drinks with me because of the restrictions, can anyone give me a clue of what to expect to be able to eat at that point? Not real sure where the food selection is at 6 weeks. I just want to be able to plan ahead so I'm not freaking out! I will pack plenty of protein drinks in my luggage but I'm more concerned about the two travel days there and back.

I have until Sept. 20th to finish my Options class. I have weighed in up and down, and technically have only lost 2 pounds since June 21st. I am thinking of going straight liquids with 3 Optifast with 24g of Protein and have 2-22 grams of protein for the day until the end of class. I want so desperately to lose something and with this program I have in mind, I know I can. I have been on the Optifast program with Kaiser before and know what it entails. Soooo, on September 1, I will be going "Cold-Turkey".

I just screwed up big time. I am on my 3 week liquid diet. I made it through week one just fine but today (day 9) I cheated, bad, ate the mac n cheese I made for my son. This crap is DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am 5 days out from surgery and have been living off Protein powders blended with Water and whoever invented this crap was an a$$h013. I choke down 80g's worth of protein every day and try to keep up with the water but I feel like I am being punished for every pleasure I've ever had from food. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! I need real food with real flavor, not this gritty paste water that tastes of a$$. I don't mind that I'm on liquids, but anything but this!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHH. PS - yes, I've tried a variety of the brands, all a$$. And I'm only getting in about 300 cals a day, the doc wants me at 600.

I went to see my nutritionist today for an hour class. She had a notebook about all the things we should be eating (including way more carbs and fat than I'm used to), gigantor portions, and 1,000-1,2000 calorie a day recommendation (I've been doing 600-800). So I came home and implemented some of her suggestions for dinner, felt like crap for an hour, and threw up for the first time ever. What am I to make of this? She suggested that if I didn't use her guidelines I would gain my weight back after 2 years because I would be unable to sustain what I am doing. Thoughts?

I pulled out the info from my program and looked at it just now. I thought I had 2 weeks of mushies, but I don't--it was just one week of mushies, so I'm done! That wasn't hard at all, and I was able to do it with the just the recipes that I posted on my blog Gastric Sleeve Foodie without having to do anything fancier. I'll be posting soft foods recipes soon--I'm going to start menu planning today. For my program, soft foods is basically everything but the meat must be ground or finely chopped, no fresh veggies (must be cooked until soft), no fresh fruit (canned in Water is ok), no skins from baked potato, cucumber, etc. No fibrous veggies like peas and corn. No celery…
