I THINK IM IN TROUBLE CAUSE I THOUGHT SOMEONE SAID 30 CARBS PER DAY, AND HOW DO U GET THE NET OR TOTAL CARBS? DUH, I FEEL SO STUPID.......THANKS VICKI~

I do eat low carb but I don't count them up. I more consider it a "healthy carb" type of eating. I eat my meats first, but I also add in my Fibers throughout the day as well. I try to never get less than 15g of Fiber per day - and the RDA is 18g. If that means I'm eating 60g of carbs per day then that's what it means.

Really I think it more comes out to about 50g carbs per day. I do try to find options that are packed with Fiber if I'm going to eat carbs. Once I'm able to eat more fruits and veggies (still working on post op eating) that will be where I get all my carbs from, while still ensuring I'm getting my RDA of fiber.

Reasons I do this:

* Regularity which is perfect right now.

* I don't want to feel sluggish and tired all the time.

* Hi fiber / Hi Protein diets prove to be the absolute best at satiety which so far is proving itself.

* So far my losses have been really great. I really don't feel the need to

shake anything up at all. As long as this is true, I will continue on with my current plan.

However I really don't think I'll have any problems. My calories are low considering how active I am. I'm trying to lose weight and live my life at the same time. I don't want to be too overcome with diets and losing weight to where its all I think about all day.

That's just me though! Whatever works for each individual person is what they should be doing. Not until you go through a stall of more than a month should you really become concerned and start finding alternatives to what you're doing. Usually it's just as simple as burning more calories throughout the day.

I stayed below 30, and I didn't have time or the patience to deal with that total carb/net carb crap. When I struggled with meats, I switched to seitan and tempeh.

Post-op when I was on mushies, I could only eat 1/4 cup of refried Beans, but I counted the carbs. I would add greek yogurt to it to increase the Protein count.

I avoided any fruits and veggies over 50 on the glycemic index. Green Beans were my choice for veggies, and I never was a fruit eater so I avoided fruit just because of the sugar content.

I was wondering about Seitan, I love it, and make it from scratch..but don't see it on "the lists" for protein...I think if you just add some aminos, its a quality protein...I plan on using it too as part of my veggie Protein options.

It's a vegan/vegetarian meat substitute.

http://en.wikipedia....uten_%28food%29

There are tons of recipes out there, and it's one of those foods like tofu that just absorb the flavors of whatever you cook it in.

I've posted a whole slew of recipes in the food forum that you can possibly use the search feature at the top to find those.

Tofurkey is a form of Seitan meat that also contains some soy. Some people are allergic to Gluten... lucky for me I don't have a problem. I love it sliced cold for "turkey" sandwitches... I will have to do without for a while... but it is nice alone too.

You betcha ! ! ! Also, you can check out tempeh. I preferred Seitan over Tempeh, but they are both good, easily digested meat substitutes.

thanks for all the info. will be checking it out....:)

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
