Don't ever try and eat ham steak! I don't know what I was thinking but I ate a piece of ham steak. It got stuck so I drank Water to wash it down. The water came up my nose and I couldn't take a breath. So scary. I thought I may pass out. I blew the water out of my nose and could take a breath. Then I threw up for the first time since my surgery 9/20/12. It was still stuck but I threw up again and it dislodged ! I drank water and now I'm not going to eat today or tomorrow Wow I better stick with fish and chicken and turkey meatloaf! I was debating weather to get a fill at my appt. on the 19 th. Now I know I don't want one !!! I have 5.5 cc in a 10 cc band.

I had Lap Band surgery over a year ago and ,during that surgery, I had my hiatal hernia repaired. I haven't had a fill for a while because I've felt that my restriction was more than adequate. However, I have noticed that, even while drinking my protein shakes, I will get that stuck feeling, almost as if I had an air bubble trapped that I couldn't burp out. This feeling rarely happens when I have a bra on. Yesterday, this happened so bad that I ended up BPing (vomiting?) off and on for about 5 hours. Is it possible that my hernia has returned? Or is this a sign of a slipped band or something?

I have been doing great through different stages and haven't had to deal with trigger foods. Tonight while making dinner for the kids I heated them up some taquitos, and they smelled so go. So I tried one, then another, then two more. About that time Misstress Band spoke up and said STOP (Did I mention that with my fill last night, Mistress Band has leather whip to go with her high heels) and I did, I was satiated. So what is the problem, I didn't over eat, I logged my calories, Mistress Band is happy, so why am I so upset. The reason? I did not eat what I had planned, I didn't eat because I wanted to, I ate them because I was compelled to. I need to think about this...…

So I've been having heart burn the last couple days on and off. Not sure if its something I should be worried about. I have been banded since may 2012 and I've only got 1cc in my band. I've been extremely happy with my band so far. I am able to eat and drink fine but I've been having this heart burn for a couple days and since I don't normally get heart burn it does have me worried. Anyone have any thoughts? I am going to ask my surgeon but it is a little late to do that tonight. I'm hoping I haven't slipped or something.

I was banded 12/3 and was rockin my band until they realized my band wasn't working properly due to a kink in the line. I had surgery again to revise the port 2/8. The problem is the incision where the port is happens to be much larger now and slower healing. It's really difficult to wear a bra due to it rubbing right on it. I work at a hospital and we have try a few things to make it more comfortable but it continues to pull the glue off the incision. Any suggestions on something else to use. Thanks in advance!

I had my surgery July 2012 and so far I have lost 25 pounds my doctor has been giving me several small fills mainly .25 cc at a time. I think he could be more aggressive with my fills but he keeps telling he dont want to get me to tight. I feel im doing most of the work on my own with only 3.5cc on my band out of a 10cc band I'm always fighting hunger. I excersice 5 times a week and I just wish I could lose weight a little faster most people can't even tell I lost any weight.... Im tired of being fat and hungry. Has anyone out there experience slow weight lost and finally lost the weight?? How long can this take??

Thinking of getting it done there as oppose to Toronto since it would be so much closer for me since I am in Timmins to get fills. If someone can give me feedback it would be great. Thanks

Hey everyone, OK so I was banded 12.19.12 and I did very well on my shakes and mushies. I got my first fill 1.30.13 so here are some of my questions that I didn't have at the time of my fill or else I would have asked my doctor. Ok so first off, I always here people say " getting stuck" what does that really mean? Is it food being stuck going thru the band or is it a stuck feeling after you've swallowed? Because I have had a stuck feeling after I've swallowed and it hurt very bad, it came back up once but that was it, I'm guessing it's because I probably did't chew enough... Ok question #2 how do you know when you really have restriction? what does it feel like or what a…

This coming Wednesday, February 13th, I'm having my Lapband removed. I'm really not happy about it, but I need to have it done. I had it put in February '08, and the first six months were great. I started having symptoms after the second fill, when the acid reflux and the pbing started. I was filled and unfilled countless times, and the last unfill I had, August '10, I was told that it needed to come out. Unfortunately, I was having MAJOR problems at work at the same time and the stress was unbearable. I think it may have contributed to these issues with my band. I managed to gain all but ten pounds of the fifty I had lost since getting the band because I was pretty much …

Hi everyone- I am having my surgery 1 week from today and just starting to prep for after surgery. I was wondering what milk you all prefer to mix with your Protein powder and why. I go back and forth between them as I like them all. For example skim milk is most protein but also most carbs. I love almond because its so low in carbs but its also low in protein. And then soy is sort of in the middle. Is one better than the other when it comes to weightloss? Thanks for your input!

  34. I know I'm going to be asked why I am getting it out so I will cover that real fast. I got my lap band in 2009 and have had trouble with it from the very beginning. Turns out I have a sensitive stomach and it responds to irritation by swelling. Every time I would try to get a fill my stomach would swell to the point I couldn't even swallow anything which would trigger the slimming effect and I couldn't even get that down so I would have to go back and get it back out. Even without a fill I have a lot of restriction and due to the swelling it is unpredictable how restricted I am and changes by the hour. This results in me vomiting on a good day made 3 times but most of the…

Hi my name is Erika and this is my first thread. I am looking into getting the lap band done for about 2 years and have a few questions. First has anyone payed out of pocket and about how much is it? I also hear a lot of things that scare me about the surgery like the band being to tight or slipping and it being painful, should I worry? I was also wondering what my first steps should be in getting the surgery done? I am 21 years old and weigh 275lbs, I was just wondering if this is my best option? Someone please help. :-)

I am a 25 year old woman who is 5'7 and I weigh 215 lbs. I am 33 BMI and all costs of surgery is not covered through my insurance so I am paying $9000 out of pocket. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there that has already gone through this and could give me some advice. I have been big my entire life and around 18 I started to yo-yo diet. I have been hearing from my doctor lately "your blood pressure is a little high" and that scares me. I'm too young. 39. Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with a severe gluten intolerance two years after my surgery (but I probably had it 3 months after surgery). I've struggled with it just because my body doesn't like any grains but I'm much healthier now (minus all the other complications I believe the lap band have given me). Has anyone been diagnosed with gluten intolerance/ celiacs disease post surgery? I just ask because I am the only one in my family...and my family believes it's the Lap band (they hate it lol but I don't blame them because of all of issues I've had). Thanks! Coley

Had surgery one and a half years ago. I lost about 20 lbs, and was never able to lose any more. The nurse practitioner I saw always made it seem like I was a failure because I was not losing. A friend of mine suggested that I make an appt with a surgeon in my practice. I saw the surgeon. My fill was to 9ccs, With a fill under floroscopy, the surgeon is now telling me that he thinks my fill was too tight, because when we observed it, the barium I drank was stuck before it even reached my band. Some saline was actually removed. I am so confused, and have not really been successful after 16 months banded. Does anyone know what is going on?

  43. Not counting pre-op weight loss, I'm down 11 lbs since Jan 18th. I was hoping for a little more of a dramatic weight loss, but overall I'm happy.

Lately where my port is connected to my skin has become extremely itchy. I have been banded since august 2012, and have never experienced any itching until the last week or so which is about 4 weeks after i had my first fill. Also my port seems to be sticking out more than usual. I was wondering if any of you have experienced this or if it is even a cause for concern. I have an appointment for another fill in mid march so Im debating about waiting till then to talk to my Dr. or if I should call. It doesnt seem like Im having a severe allergic reaction because thats the only symptom I have. Just checkin if this is normal or not with you guys. :-)

I've lost 65 pounds, but have basically plateaued in the last 6 months. I just got a fill yesterday and am definitely feeling a difference. I started running last summer and actually ran/walked a 5k. Then I developed a bladder problem and that slowed me to a stop. I'm told it is more age related, not weight loss related. Now that its under control, I'm starting back to my exercise. Winter is just not cooperating! While I haven't loss weight recently, my clothing size is smaller,so I'm guess…
