I am BEYOND excited to find out today that I was approved by my credit union for a loan in the amount of $11,725! The surgeon that I wanted in Jacksonville, FL charges $14,000 so I knew that meant I would need to find another surgeon. Anyways, http://weightlossjax.com/ offers the surgery for $10,000 but when I called to ask about it she said that with my BMI I would have to have the surgery in the hospital which would drive the cost up to $15,000. I am just really bummed. I asked if it is cut and dry and no exceptions on the BMI. I asked this because though my BMI is high other then that I have no other health problems at all. My sugar is on the low end, normal BP,…

  3. I am writing because I want to know if other people have this issue. I had surgery 7/2008. I had issues feeling restriction and it took a long time and MANY fills. My last fill was 2/2010. I am well over 7cc. I lost weight like a rock star in the beginning, but I was hungry all the time. My lowest weight was 227 in 6/2009, I'm now at 245, just 30 lbs below my surgery day weight of 275. I was at 308 when I started the whole journey. I have been a size 18 since september 2008. I am very tight in the mornings. I can't even eat a scrambled egg. I have no appetite whatsoever. My mornings consist of coffee and a Protein shake or nothing or cottage cheese. I start to…

I had a fairly large fill last Wed. about 2.5 cc via fluro and I was able to sip water just fine. Wed evening I sipped apple juice and had a hard time keeping it down. The following day I was still having trouble and had an episode of vomiting, mind you my stomach was empty. I called the on call doctor and he told me not to eat or drink anything else for the and when I get up in the AM to sip a cup of hot tea and if it goes down then I probably still had swelling from the adjustment. I did just that in the AM and it went down fine. So fast forward today I was still having that stuck feeling after trying to sip water or juice or eat soup, so I decided that tomorrow I would…

  6. Hello everyone! It sure feels amazing being back to the site! I just recently had a baby a few weeks ago and gained a total of 35 lbs with the pregnancy. I originally had 8cc in my band but had 4cc removed when I was 8 weeks pregnant because I was to the point of losing more weight and not being able to keep anything down which is extremely harmful for the unborn fetus. Throughout my pregnancy, I did eat whatever I desired but I do believe that if I didn't have the band, I would have gained alot more than 35 lbs. I delivered a healthy 8 lb 11 oz baby girl! So today I went in a for a fill. Dr. Leport's staff and team are amazing (in Orange County, CA). The PA tried h…

I was banded November 8th. I have lost 26 pounds. Right after the surgery I ended up with an infection and hematoma. They gave me an antibiotic and after spending most of two weeks in pain rating between 7-8. They felt the infection had gone away. I continued to have mild pain between 3-5. I went in for first fill end of December and since weight loss was good, I wasn't hungry, and hematoma was barely resolved, we choose not to fill. Mid January I went back in for a fill. The nurse attempted to do a fill two times and dug around a lot, then the doc came in and tried for just a bit and determined my port had flipped. Due to a trip we had planned I scheduled my surg…

  10. It's been 10 months since my surgery. My goal was to lose 75 lbs. I have lost 25 lbs- all within the first few months. I am at a standstill. Why? It's me. I eat what I want when I want. I drink with my meals and too soon after. I drink wine. I feel like an absolute failure. I haven't gone for a fill in several months because I was afraid to face my doctor. I haven't gone to a support group meeting because I don't want to spoil the meeting for these great people who are enjoying hard-earned success. What's wrong with me? I start out with great intentions every day. Sometimes I am legitimately hungry. Sometimes I am bored. Sometimes I made good food choices and sometimes I …

After being banded with plication in August 2012, I have been having quite a bit of pain for the last three months. I went to my surgeon who acted like he doesn't want to bother with me. Just real rude and acted like my pain was no big deal. So I saw another surgeon who was kind enough to take me on. My body is rejecting the lapband. It seems it doesn't like having a foreign object in it. So my band is going to be removed and I will be revised to the sleeve all in one surgery. I have lost weight with the band but my body doesn't like it.

Hi everyone, I'm new and considering lapband surgery. The reason why I've gained so much weight is because I eat non stop - even when I'm not hungry. I love food! My biggest fear after surgery is still feeling hungry. How are you all getting full on 1 cup of food?? I can't wrap my head around it! What does being full on lapband feel like? What can I realistically expect? I have 100lbs to lose.

I am at a total loss. I had my band completely unfilled before I went to Paris for my honeymoon in October bc I was getting severe gas pains and bloating to the point I would be crying and it takes alot for me to cry. Since then I have had several fills to get back on track and so in December I HAD to get back on track. I was tired all the time and just in bad moods all the time. I was tired of it. So I started working out and it took me a little bit to get motivated but I did. I am at the point now where I am on the border line of being 200 again. I was down to 150 after a year of getting the lap band. (I have had in since June of 2007). I started eating right and every…

Hello, I have been banded since January 24th I was a low bmi and have lost so far 13 pounds with no pre op diet. On the first week of my post off I felt full all the time most probably because I was swollen. I knew as well that the surgeon put 4cc on my band of 10cc, the reason I think he done because normally he doesn't do, is because perhaps my stomach wasn't too big, so to be properly in place I needed a bit of a fill. The reason of the post is, that after my 2nd week post op I started to feel really hungry, and I wasn't drinking enough at all, that was always the problem. So I thought to myself I'm going to commit drinking water because I kinda wasn't loosing anymore,…

Ate really bad today, 2 months postoperative yesterday. I'll be glad when I get more restriction. So easy to fall back into old eating habits. I feel so "ugggghhh" after not following my usual high protein diet and going over my 1200 calories/day. Need a band for my brain and my stomach. Plan to do better tomorrow and hope the weather is nice to go for a walk.

  23. Hey all! Most of you probably know my story: I was banded in OCt of 2009 and did well. Lost 104 lbs in 2 yrs, was down to within 9 lbs of my goal when I started having severe nightime reflux last year. Had to sleep on my back only propped up on 3 pillows, taking RX Prilosec, OTC Zantac, and popping Tums like crazy. I refused to tell my dr cuz I was scared he would take out some of my fill. My husband got tired of my whining about my reflux (some mornings I'd wake up with brown stomach acid on my pillow, sorry if tmi) and insisted I see my dr. I made the 6 hr round trip visit to my dr and he did an xray. My band was slipped. So he took out about 1/2 of my 10cc fills (I h…

Got the band November 1st, so far down 45 lbs and this past week I went to 8.5cc which I think is finally my green zone. Already see I can't handle pancakes that well, though I can get them down one bite has me waiting 5 minutes in between (which sucks because pancakes were my favorite Saturday breakfast/brunch food) but I have learned to replace them with Protein powder and egg/banana pancakes- go down just fine and 22g of protein! Looking forward now I am green more continued weight loss!

I've been away from the site for a few months. After my mom passed away back in October, I found myself returning to food for emotional comfort. I miss her everyday, but after 4 months of no weightloss, I've decided I need to get over it and kick things into high gear. I called my Dr.'s office because I had not seen him in like 3 months. Every appointment I had kept getting canceled and rescheduled another month and half out, so I have not been getting regular fills. Up until 4 weeks ago. I called the clinic and asked if they could see me and give me a fill. The doc there said I should have already been to the halfway point of my band being filled and was adament t…

I had dinner 2 1/2 hours ago and went to bed. It was cereal. Now my body has woken me with stuck symptoms (heavy mucous production and tight chest). I'm surprised it would take cereal that long to present as stuck. Is it perhaps just reflux, since I've been lying down? Is it maybe a combination? Is it important to stay upright for a few hours after meals to allow gravity to help the band? I ate a ham sandwich for lunch on some pretty dense bread with no problem. So why would soggy cereal be an issue?

  28. Well I am definitely doing this! Just trying to sort out logistics, and this is a biggy. I have to fly from Alberta to Toronto for the procedure. I will need to fly in the night before, stay the night directly after, and fly back home the following day. From reading the surgery-day stories, it would seem that some of you had a tough day (or days) immediately following the procedure. Is this a problem maybe? I will be travelling alone, so it will be a couple airports, one piece of luggage, and approximately five hours all told. Should I be giving it an extra day? And on that topic, I am using airmiles for most of my flight. But for you out of towners contemplat…

I guess I really cannot call this problem a complication but an irritation. I had my surgery on 12/27/12 and since then I have been experiencing left shoulder pain - sometimes it is so unbearable. My recovery period was horrible becuase of this pain. There are days where I can deal with it and there are days I am laying in the bed like a log because of the pain. I am taking the Gas-X and liquid Motrin to help with the inflammation. I've read in the book that was given to me by my surgeon that there could be the shoulder pain and I've accepted that but when does it go AWAY?? I am pleased with my weight loss so again I really can't say it a true complication. I just got my …

If it wasn't or my band I would be so much heavier t this moment. In your opinion, how do you differentiate head hunger vs. real hunger ? Any tips on how to not be a head hunger victim ?

  37. I had lap band surgery in April 2012; I have an AP Large Lap Band that will hold 14 ccs; currently have 7 ccs. My daily Protein count is around 60 and my calorie count is 1,200. I drink around 60 ounces of Water as well. My energy level has plummeted and I am VERY lethargic. I went to my family doctor for lab work. All is well (except I still have high cholesterol). Does anyone have TIPS or TRICKS on increasing energy level? Feel like I am missing a piece of the puzzle. Thanks for your positive input

"band is too tight, go see the dr." etc. Well. about a year ago, i started having severe acid reflux, where i am actually waking up at night choking on it. Even sitting straight up to sleep. I went to my doctor, he unfilled me. I still had acid reflux, but it was taken care of by pepcid. I got a great fill and wham... the severe acid reflux is back. 41. Hi everybody, I've poked around this site and can't seem to find a "Find" search mechanism so I thought I'd post here. This place has been the greatest resource for me as I prepare to be banded. I'd love to find other bandsters who are closer geographically to me. I'm in Paris, France and the WLS boards here just aren't as developed/well-maintained/polite/etc as those I've found based in the USA. So I rely on LBT for my support and information but also wondered if there are any other Europe and/or France-based people on here. Let me know!

I recieved my first fill a few days ago and im confused. I recieved 3cc's and I only feel restriction eating foods that are too tough to digest which results in it coming up. Other food that I can digest easily I don't get that restriction feeling at all. So my question is how many fills does it actually take to get that "full feeling"??

  43. Gastric Emptying Study showed my stomach is emptying within normal parameters with one abnormal result: Immediately after consuming 4 oz eggbeaters and one piece of toast (no crust) and jam followed by 4 oz Water, the first picture showed the food backed up in my esophagus! The time they gave me to eat the food was 10 min, I ate half in 10 min, felt like I was done and the tech came back and told me to eat the rest of the eggs and another half piece of toast. So what does this mean? The GI doctor says I have mild gastroparesis, but isn't sure why food is getting backed up, especially since my band has been empty (EGD showed stoma open 12/6/12). I'm more confused th…

  49. My last fill was just before the holidays, and I've noticed my left shoulder hurts sometimes, and it seems to be if I've forgotten to eat in a bit. Does this happen to anyone else? I freaked out a little bit because my "handbook" from the surgeon said shoulder and chest pains can be signs of slippage? Is it weird to have them do an x-ray or something and check on it? After surgery I had similar pain in my shoulder, but MUCH MUCH worse, which I found out was just pain that comes from your diaphragm. Not sure if its the same idea here.

I am 10 months post op and have lost 70lbs. I have been Gavin problems with my port being sore and sometimes hurting. Last time I saw my surgeon they said it could be from working out and still healing, that was about 6 months ago. Well I went back yesterday to see my surgeon again since I can't wear regular paints, bend over to pick something up, or even carry my daughter without it hurting. So he is going to go in and move my port upwards a little bd see if that helps, no promises that it will make it stop hurting. I am very pleased with the lapband and has help me change my lifestyle for the better. Has anyone ever had to have their port moved also?? Thanks
