After two months of living with an infected port I finally found a doctor who would help me . I live in Canada. It was very hard to find a doctor to take me on. I had my infected port removed on Tuesday. Luckily the infection has not spread beyond my port , and he was able to leave my tubing and band in. He used steri strips , no staples or stiches , and the plan is to replace the port in 4-6 weeks of IV antibiotics..my tubing is loose inside me. Although the incision is large and bleeding a lot, it is not very painful. Most of the pain is coming from my stomach. Is this normal? I had an X-ray and they said everything looks fine. I had my band 12 years. Maybe it is…

I know there's been a lot of talk about Biotin on these threads, specifically how it effects hair loss. I thought I'd share my own recent experience. When I had my Lap Band surgery 17 months ago, I lost a lot of hair after. It did eventually come back but it took a really long time. I had experienced the same thing with other previous surgeries, too. Then, I read on these forums about Biotin. So, about 6 months after being banded, I started taking 5000mcg of Biotin daily. I also use a Fruitese shampoo called "Fall Fight" with Biotin in it. In the last 3 months, I've had 2 surgeries and another procedure that required sedation. This also included 3 separate hosp…

Off the subject of lap band surgery, is anyone finding this site slow? Sometimes it takes a long time for my posts.....to post. I don't know if it happens when there is a lot of traffic coming through, of if it's my computer. I don't seem to have the problem doing anything outside of LBT. Just curious

So imagine my surprise when scrolling through my fb feed I see this post..... "Seriously?! To the lobbyists at the House of Rep. trying to get it passed that "Obesity is a Disease"...hear me say that Hell will freeze over before my tax dollars go towards yet one more idiotic Obama Care mission. Let's just provide one more incentive for Americans to stop working, eat more, and give them free electronics to satisfy them while they sit on the couch contributing nothing to humanity. Um, no. Where are the incentives for MY healthy body, good work ethic and willingness to give more than I receive in hopes of making the world a better place?! Let's all take a reality check …

I have been using it for about three weeks. I am consistently over on Protein and fat (cheese) and under on total calories. It keeps telling me I am going to shut down my metabolism. It causes me to eat at night just trying to get my calories above 1200 with my exercise and walking... 3+ miles per day, 6 days a week. HELP! I am actually gaining weight by counting this stuff. About to abandon all hope. I am up 4 pounds from my docs goal and cannot get below 183! What am I doing wrong?

My wife and I, and a few of her friends, will occasionally eat out at a local, popular restaurant that serves only Breakfast and lunches. I should mention that three of us have the lap-band, and my wife just had VSG surgery. I usually order an omelet, and it is good for at least two meals. I divide it half, and take the rest home for another meal. The other day one of my wife's friends ordered a lunch special--stuffed peppers. They brought her two HUGE stuffed peppers to the table, and along with that came two large potato slices and Italian bread with butter! She also ordered the pea Soup special... But, she took the stuffed peppers to go. I decided to do the same …

I did a preemptive thing and had a 1cc defill prior to a shoulder surgery. I was having occasional reflux and thought it would be bad to have it while knocked out on the Drs slab. My fill nurse thought it was an awesome idea. Oddly for the past week, I've felt physically better since the defill, so if things work out, I won't get topped off again... The surgeon and anesthesiologist were very appreciative as well..

Any advise as what to expect on my first fill? I am down 20 pounds since my surgery and am overly anxious to drop more and more!!! Adding exercise now has been amazing to my energy level. I feel that I can eat a lot and it kind of scares me. Do you get to choose how much to fill or how do they know what u need? Any advise would be great!

I know here lately I've posted and sounded down and maybe I am, I've got a lot going on in my life. Tonight I was watching an episode of I think it's titled "my 600 lb life and where are they now", well I live with my mom and have lived with her for the past year for several reasons, one she's 74 and needs me but for the main reason, I can't find a job and I need her as much as she needs me because I can't make ends meet on my alimony alone since my divorce 2 yrs ago and live by myself. Well, while watching this show I could really relate to these people who had had gastric bypass and their eating issues so I paused the DVR and said to my mom "you know I really need hel…

ok, my surgeon has no problem with his patients drinking carbonated drinks but I choose not to because I've read enough about band slippage and besides I've always been a water drinker with crystal light. Anyway, tonight was lap band support meeting and in walks a someone with a Mt Dew and only 3 wks post op.

Hi everyone, I am at the beginning of my journey and was wondering what you used on your skin to prevent or reduce the signs of sagging or surgery scars. I know a lot of this is "related to genetics" and "everyone is different" but I am still curious to know what you have used and what worked! TIA

I have a question for everyone.... I know weight goals are personal, but do you think it's bad if mine is higher than most people? I'm trying to decide if I'm keeping myself from reaching my true potential, or if its really ok. I began at 291, and now I'm 219. I'd love to lose 10 pounds more, but I'll still weigh over 200 lbs!! Is that a poor goal? I feel good, and my bloodwork is all good. My primary care doctor says that maybe I'm just not meant to be super small... Thoughts?

Don't tell at me! I know tight is bad... I'm 8 days post op and I'm dying to feel the band quietly at work. How long did your doctor make you wait between fills at the beginning? I've heard quite a range so I'm just trying to see the range. Thanks!

We often wonder where we go wrong with losing weight, the golden to to losing weight is holding yourself accountable, if you bite it, write it, if you write down everything you eat, you can see where you are going wrong, or have someone else review it and they can tell you where you are going wrong :-)

I know I've seen on here the right amount of food to have at a meal so as not to over eat or stretch your band, but i can't remember. My Dr. does not limit calories or anything. He says to just eat healthy and the band will take care of the rest. But I need a guideline or I'll eat to much. So it was something like 4 oz of Protein, 1/2 cup vegi's and 1/4 cup of starch is that right? If not can you correct me? ~~~Stephanie

I went to my first post op appt today assuming I would get/want a fill. I never got to ask the surgeon on the day of surgery how much fluid he put in my band. I asked at the appt and they said 6 cc's in a 10 cc band. OMG!!! I can't believe the surgeon put in so much. I told them I didn't want a fill because I think I have enough for now (surgery was May 6, 5 weeks ago). I'm just wondering if anyone else had that much fluid put in during surgery?

6 weeks post op and I still forget. I sit down to eat and I still haven't picked up the habit of remembering that I have the band...so I take a BIG bite...or I don't chew. Or I walk by my daughter's bag of jelly belly's and grab a handful....its neverending... I WANT to make changes...but so much is just an automatic response. I actually spit out those jelly belly's by the way...1/2 chewed because it took me 15 seconds to remember what my goals are and that a mouthful of jelly belly's just don't fit in with them... UGH. They need to invent a lap band for the brain hunger response.

While soaping up in the shower, I was scrubbing under my boobs (sorry tmi) and on my right side I felt a large lump, that was about the size of my port, which is on the left below ribs. I was thinking oh my gosh, what the heck and then it dawned on me, it was my rib. Bahahahaha I never felt it before. I love my band!

OK, so I started my pre-op on 12/14/12, my LB surgery was 12/28/12. I've lost a total of 45 lbs so far since 12/14/12. Well, I saw my PCP on Monday 5/6. I had not seen him since February 6th. The first words out of his mouth were, you only lost. 8 lbs. since I last saw you, that's not very much. I wanted to cry, here I am thinking wow, I've lost 45 lbs in 5 months, that's pretty good or so I thought. Mind you, my band is not working because my port flipped and I'm going for revision surgery, Fri., May 10th. Anyway, I was kind of feeling down because of my primary care physician's remarks. I have no feeling of restriction or the sweet spot since my port flipped. My su…

So I'm just shy of 6 months post op. I have Never ever gotten stuck to the point where I was actually worried and i knew only a sip of Water would help move it through But tonight I had a bite of couscous which has never given me a problem. Then the stuck feeling came it wasn't as bad as everyone says it was maybe It just wasn't a really bad one? It was uncomfortable but not horrible. But I was wondering what this "sliming" is because I think I was doing it. But none of the food I ate came back up? Just kinda like when you cough phylum(flem) I can't spell lol it was just "runnier" So is sliming kinda like throwing up? And is sliming bad for your band? -Briann…

Hi, where to begin?? the band has never worked for me. banded in 2006, the first 6 months I called myself 'lava girl' due to constant painful gnawing heartburn of doom. shortly after this, doctors decided my band was too tight and completely unfilled it for 4 months. any weight I lost, I regained back. it was filled and unfilled, and never hit the sweet spot. either hungry and open or tight, constant heartburn, PB, sliming, vomiting. lose weight, band mysteriously tightens, gain back, lose it all over again and repeat literally ad nauseam. fast forward to this year, February 2013. got my period and the band tightened which it does durin those times. but then kept ti…
