My surgeon and I are becoming fairly cordial and he has shared a few things he has ran across since he does fills on bands that have previously been placed. Mexico doesn't have to follow the same standards USA docs do. He has found some patients with just a port and no band. Others have had just gauze wrapped around where the band would be. I realize that there are some very successful bands done out of the US, but do your due diligence and don't believe ANYTHING they tell you until you have proof.

Hi everyone, I've been thinking about lapband for a few years now and finally decided to go for it. I'm scheduled for 07/09 and am really nervous about it. I have about 140 lbs to lose and am hoping the band will work for me. I have a few concerns about what to expect right after the surgery. I'm a pretty tough girl with a high pain tolerance so I'm thinking I'll be OK. I'll be posting some before pics so I can hopefully look back in a year and see my progress. There seems to be a lot of wonderful supportive knowledgeable people here so it looks like I came to the right place. Any suggestions on what I should be doing before the surgery so that everything goes we…

I've seen people post that even really early (first few months), their surgeon won't fill the band if the patient loss sufficient weight. That seems like punishment? Anyone else's doctor do this? Anyone can follow a diet for a month or two but we got the surgery to use (though not abuse) the tool, right? I don't want to burn out on willpower before I'm ALLOWED to get a fill.

During the summer the girls in my office often go out for lunch. During the school year we can't go out often, so during the summer we take advantage of the layed back atmostphere while the kids are gone. Last summer I most did soft stuff that I brought because I had just had surgery. This year I can eat with them again. The places we tend to go are: Subway Moe's Southwest Grill Buffalo Brothers Applebees Chic fil a Wendy's I use to get a 6 in sub at Subway, but I don't think I can do that now- way more than a cup. So what do you all get at these places? Or, should I just bring my lunch and not go with them?

I was banded on December 28, 2012 and am down 45 pounds. It has been a SLOW process! I just had my 4th fill. I could not keep anything down the first 2 days and now I can take only tiny bites of soft foods. Tonight I tried tiny bites of chicken, chewed very thoroughly but it came up. I am not really hungry but I am getting no nutrition in at all. SO my question is do I need an unfill or will it stretch a little? My first three fills I didn't have really any restriction at all. I am afraid to get an unfill because the weight loss has been so slow but I am not getting much in at all, which I know can't be good.

I am SO happy that I reached out to all of you!! What a difference a post makes! I am recording everything I eat on my new MyFitnessPal account. I am MUCH more mindful of everything that I eat because now I have to hold myself accountable. Now, I just need to keep doing it; create that habit. I'm watching my portions and I'm eating slower. Even when my husband is home we eat in front of the TV and as we all know, we don't pay attention to how or how much we are eating. I am incredibly aware now. I've used MRSINTO's ideas for meals and tonight I had 97% browned ground beef, Glory Foods - Sensibly Seasoned Lower Sodium Tomatoes, Okra, and Corn, and Margaret Holmes …

Hello everyone! I am brand new to the Lapband Talk community, but I am looking for some feedback/support. I was banded March 6, 2013. I've had 2 fills since then totally 3ccs currently in the band. My surgery and recovery was very difficult, but here we are 3 months and a bit later! Issue is-right from when I began back on soft food I have difficulty swallowing. A lot of difficulty! It's essentially not gotten any better over the past 3 months. It is very hard with solid/dry food or anything with a crust/peel. If I don't drink a lot of water with eating, the food stocks in my throat and makes me either want to gag or feel like I'm choking or going to vomit. I have tr…

I recently got my first fill....I had no restriction when I got my band, now I do. I have 'messed up" few times already. Eating too fast, too big of bites, drinking with food, and tried fried food. Yes, I DO know that all of these things are NO NO's...but my question is....if you do mess up, what can you do for relief? The PAIN of being stuck is unbearable!! I swear I have had moments in the past few days hat I just wished I could/would die!! Along those same lines.....how do you know if you have slippage? I just hope that I haven't messed anything up!! This is SO much harder then I thought it would be!!

I'm scheduled for my first fill today. For some reason I'm really nervous. I wasn't nervous about the surgery so this is throwing me for a loop. I thought about canceling the appt but have chosen to ignore whatever is telling me to do that and am just going forward. I know it's for the best, not sure why I'm so nervous?? Happy thoughts sent my way would be appreciated!!

I'm nine months post op and gained back to my day of surgery weight:-( So frustrated, had a breakdown and cried at my appt yesterday, as if I wasn't down on my self enough, the disappointment on the doctors face set me over the edge:-( against his better judgement he gave me another .5 cc fill putting me at 9 in my 11 cc band. I hope this is what I needed. I exercise, and probably make poor choices now and then but still feel like I should be seeing some results. So now starting over today! Logging EVERYTHING I put in my mouth and see where I'm at in 6 weeks when I go back to see the doc and nutritionist. Wish me luck, and strength, I'm gonna need it:-)

So I was rushed into surgery Tuesday night because my xray showed a slipped & twisted band! Now how the hell did that happen?? Well according to my surgeon medicine can make the lapband too tight by irritating the stomach. Considering the fact that im on 2 different steroids for my asthma didn't make my situation any better. My body just didn't feel right so I went in for a check up and that's what we discovered. So back to step 1 for me. But I cant be mad because I did lose over 50 pounds. This is even more motivation for me!

I don't post here often, but am hoping to get some input from more experienced banders. I have a call in to my nurse and am waiting to hear back. Two weeks ago I had a Stomach Virus that lasted 5 days...thankfully I only had 1 episode of vomiting. Since the stomach bug I've been having discomfort when food goes through the band. Saturday I did 24 hrs of liquids then started back on food Sunday. Sunday was ok, but by Monday I was having discomfort again. My hope is that everything is just still swollen and irritated from the virus and can do a couple of days of fluids. Anybody have any similar experiences?

Sitting in my Dr,'s office this am, (one of many) I read an interview in Peoples magazine given by my NJ Governor, who had lap band surgery early this year..... He said the following....(I'm paraphrasing) Problem I had was I ate too much..simple. I Loved food....Could not stop. NOW I can't eat Breakfast anymore, so my wife makes me a smoothie with lots of fresh fruit and plenty of Protein...other than that, food does not interest me anymore, I could care less if I eat or not....I don't think about it, and my tastes have definitley changed.....and when I do eat, I can't finish it...I'm done quickly.... BRAVO! This is a guy I can relate too...NO HUNGER is a character…

So I am in a horrible mood right now and need to vent... Just had my third fill this afternoon. It was my first time actually seeing my surgeon since surgery in January. The other fills were done by the doctor at the clinic. I should preface this by saying I've been feeling NO restriction and haven't had good weight loss since my surgery nearly 5 months ago. I'm down like a total of 10 lbs. Anyway, he looks at my chart, sees that I have 3cc in my band, and says he will give me 2cc. So I lie down, he finds the port, he sticks me and and says, "hmmm, have you had any fills since the last time you were here?" (((Yeah, I went to my guy down at the corner of 2nd and Har…

Hi Everyone, I am 56 years old and had lap band surgery in 2009 and lost 65 lbs. Over the past couple of years, I have had excessive stress in my life and have gained 25+ lbs back. I feel like I am eating pre lap band, I don't seem to have any control. My weight seemed to be stable until late last year when I started having bad reflux. Long story short....my band was too tight and Fluid was removed. Some was put back in a few months ago, but I am still gaining weight because I am eating too much. I can't seem to get myself back on track and I am getting panicky about it. My clothes don't fit, I just had to buy some clothes in a bigger size. I feel like I am going…

Good luck to all that are going back to work tomorrow!!! Let the journey begin and try to take it easy:)

Wednesday I am suppose to go in for a fill. I'm still on soft foods. My question is that for the most part I've been able to handle all the soft foods, I just noticed that I had a small problem with fish and then re-fried Beans once. I think I hate to much at one time or took to big of a bite I think. It felt like it was slowly going down my esophagus it was like I had to burp but if I did food would come up, but I never burped it went down. I am hungry most of the time though. So I was just wondering can you still get a fill if you've had trouble like that, but your still not staying full for 3 or 4 hrs? I just did not want to get a fill if it was going to cause m…

Hello all, I'm trying to get some nutrition tips because my weight loss has been EXTREMELY slow. I exercise regularly and I usually dont eat more than 1.5 cups of food for lunch and dinner with minimal snacking in between ... I haven't had a one on one meeting with my office's NUT yet because getting to see her is like getting to see the Pope or something - very busy and you cant even talk to her directly .... anyway, so rules she mentioned in our group glass (some that im having a hard time following) are: 1. eat 1000 cals a day or under I found this online just now - I'll give it a try since I current eat 1100-1200 daily http://www.fammed.usouthal.edu/Guides&a…

I got the band 5 years ago but then was a total failure. I didn't follow the rules very well, I was pregnant, etc. I started again in January. Since January I have lost over 40lbs. My doctor told me (he does all the fills under the flourosope) in Janauary and again a month later that the band was in perfect condition and the perfect location. The problem he had was my stomach spasms continuously so it was really hard to fill it and gauge how well it was filled. I am on some medicine for the stomach spasms but it's not working that well. I went to get another fill the other day because i see him monthly and he had not filled it since the original fill because I was losin…

Ok so about 2 1/2 weeks ago I had 9.25 in my band. The doctor filled it to 10.80.... That was way too tight for me so I had them unfill to 10.50. Since the fill I can barely eat but a few bites and I'm full. During the eating I girgle a lot. I feel like I want to do a super loud burp. So, today I sit down and have some sliced Turkey and a piece of Swiss cheese and no girgling. This was the first time I have not felt the girgling since my fill. With this meal I did not feel the tightness I would have felt yesterday. Is this normal? Just wanting to get some opinions. Since the fill I've lost 9 lbs. ~Linda

Just less of it? I have found myself eating the same types of meals as I used to "preband", just much less of it. I am maintaining my weight where I am happy, so I am not worried about that. I was just wondering if there are any other banders out there that eat the same things as before the band, just a lot less.

I went in for a fill today. My last fill was in December, which had me at 8 cc's in my 14 cc band. I struggled through until this month... where I would gain... lose, gain, lose. And had pretty much just lost my way. I don't know what it is about doing the things that you know your supposed to be doing, that just seem to conveniently slip our minds, but I stopped and looked at the situation and realized that I had quit doing all the things the Dr. told me that would ensure good weight loss. Such as... take my vitamins... get my protein, portion my food... and chew, chew, chew. And then I found myself strictly eating soups and slider foods because I would bring back everyt…

I have been banded for over 8 years, I had it done in Mexico. I saw a Dr. near home a few times for fills but have not seen a Dr. in years. (I know I should). I eat too fast and PB often. Last night I ate a hot dog too fast and PB'd a lot of it up. I felt like something was still there, everything I ate after the hot dog came back up. Today I still felt like something is still there. I can get liquids down but no food. I did get what I thought was the last piece of hotdog up this morning. I'm scared of a slippage. I read that it could be inflammation from the hot dog being stuck so long and to drink only liquids for a day. Any input please!!

My friend and I both have the lap band. U e had good results but he just found out she may have a leak. I don't think she is using the band the way she should and of course she regrets it. My question. How does a leak happen? Is it from her eating too much? I'm just curious

I was banded April 24th. I'm curious when you all are getting your first fill? Mine is scheduled for June 7th. I'm excited bout it as I can eat anything I want. I'm working really hard on being good with NOT indulging...I'm hoping even the first fill might help with that.
