So my sleeve is tomorrow morning. I'm excited and scared. My husband and I traveled so today after pre admin and pre op we shopped and just hung out together. Met a new friend and sleeve sister for lunch. And shopped some more... one day it won't just be for jewelry and shoes, but for SKINNY CLOTHES!!!! Only liquids tonight so I'll be drinking my dinner!!!

Hey everyone! I recently posted this on our May Sleevers Secret Facebook Page, but I thought some people on here might be interested in it as well. I have always been obsessed with organizing and making charts for everything!! So I made up a chart so that I can visually see how much weight I have lost and appreciate every single pound! I personally feel great when I get to take my marker and cross off another number that I know I will NEVER see again!!!! On the left side of my chart I pretty much made a countdown from my highest weight to my goal weight so that each time I lose a pound I can cross off the number!! (It makes me happy....what can I say) lol Then o…

Ad my first post op appointment with pcp. All blood work was great. Had diarrhea for about six days. The meds make me fatigued, nauseous, dizzy and tired. Feeling depressed. Have tried every medication available over the last twenty years. A the good side I've lost 72 pounds since my ore-op diet and surgery. No exercise for about six weeks as I am too dizzy at present and have little motivation. Pray for me. Your words of council would be greatly appreciated.

Well, here I go!!! My 3 hour appointment is this afternoon. I have turned in all of my "stuff" required by the doc. I am picking up some records of supervised weightloss to add to the pile. I have kept a bra and my favorite skinny pants from the past. I was looking at them last night and I showed my pants to my son. He about fell off his chair. He has never seen me thin. He couldn't believe that they were my pants! I showed my husband my bra, and he couldn't believe I have saved it all these years. I think he is still skeptical as I have tried everything to be able to loose weight. Nonetheless, he is super supportive of the whole thing. My only stress is my …

  8. Im an august sleever & personally only know 1 person who has been sleeved. I dont really know her that well, she is a work colleague. I know she has been sleeved for about 14 months. She seems to eat very little from what I see & also quite slow. She showed me her before photos & she now looks amazing. Now the grose part.. she seems to vomit lots through the day, she eats then goes straight to the bathroom & throws up, she often has to leave her desk to throw up. She often smells like vomit. Im sure sometimes she hasnt made it to the bathroom & has vomited in her bin. She told me alot of nights she has to change her bed sheets because she vomits with…

  13. First let me start off by saying AAAAAAAH, I cant Be my surgery is on March 5!!.. Now that I screamed my lungs out, reality is hitting me very slowly.. I just turned 22 on the 28th of january, and thanked God that i was really healthy growing up, in a way that if we cut out the part of always being obese since childhood, started when i was 5 really.. so we kick that out, n i could say that i was a normal healthy kid, just bigger than others.. Reality is sinking in, never had the chicken pops, never had restless nights with fevers and all that throwing up and runny bowel movements we have growing up, from germs everywhere, or from being around other kids.. What do you think about a 12 year old getting the sleeve? now, what if I tell you it is Dr. Alvarez's neice? When is it too young? What would I have been like, my life like, if I simply had to treat food like someone who had an accident or condition that could not handle food (which apparenlty isn't far from the situation). Hmmmm.

  18. I see online forums as a place where topics & conversations are ongoing...fresh & timely. If I want just impersonal information I will google it. I felt coming here was for support as well as learning medium. Since reading the rants I now talk mysef out of posting things because I dont want anyone to roll there eyes or mock what I post because what's new for me is possibly old rehashed news to a sleever who is a year or more out. Perhaps there should be 2 forums one for superior/experienced sleevers and one for people like myself called slow/nonexperienced sleevers as Im only 5 weeks out and have lots of questions/ponders for other like sleevers...if they don't …

Hi Everyone! I just joined today and am thankful to have found a good forum for research, support, etc. I just scheduled my surgery yesterday and have so many thoughts running through my mind! I initially started this process with the idea that I'd be having gastric bypass, and that is what my insurance approved. However, after my visit with my surgeon yesterday, he is recommending the sleeve for me. I am an RN, and familiar with the medical aspect of gastric bypass, and was mentally prepared for that. Both my sister and father have had that procedure. Now I'm trying to wrap my head around the new info I've been given and prepare for the sleeve. I really trust my surge…

  21. So here is my description of the events for today that I posted on my blog. I know a couple of people who are using Dr, Nick so I put his name and which of the two hospitals I had surgery at so people using him can get more details. It is also for others as well but as we all know, surgeons vary. Well, there's no turning back now. I had surgery at 6:00 am today so I'm officialy on the losers bench. Well, actually I'm on the losers bed. For anyone who is a patient of Dr. Nick Nicholson at Forest Park Medical Center, this may be most helpful to you: I got to the hospital at 4:00 this morning. At first it was a lot of hurry up and weight. I got my ID band between …

  23. I think I finally may have found the "sweet spot"! I've lost 6.5 in the last 2 weeks. I might actually be in the 180's in the next week or so. It's been at least 10 years since I have been under 190! I upped my calories to 700. Try to exercise a few times a week and log EVERYTHING on myfitnesspal. If I eat 1 cheese puff, I log it! I'd love to lose 40 more lbs (maybe more) so I hope this keeps up for a while!

So I know it is not that uncommon for obese people to have hernia's, sometimes we do not even know we have them. Do surgeons typically require us to have x-rays or whatever it is that they do to see if you have something like that? Do they still if you are self paying? Does it usually cost more than the basic surgery for the sleeve or do they just do it with the surgery in terms of money/charging you for it? I'm just concerned on the possibility of having a hernia ( don't know if I have one but I've just been thinking about it for some reason ) and since I am self paying, what would happen if they found a hernia. I don't know if I can afford 2 surgeries. Just worrying h…

I know stalls are normal. I expected to have them. But I'm only 7 weeks out. I've lost 28 pounds. Nothing to frown about. But that was all in the first 4 1/2 weeks. For 2 1/2 weeks I've been stuck. Being this close out, at first I thought it was the famous "3 week stall" come a little late. But, alas, no movement. Now, I work out 4 to 5 days a week. Both cardio and weight training. Wanted to tone to minimize loose skin while I dropped. I burn at least 700 calories during workouts. I eat only Protein... Ie: chicken breast, shrimp, eggs, turkey, and Protein shakes. I make my shakes with light silk for added protein and some extra calories. So now I'm up to about 600 calor…

  28. So I'm just wondering, during that first year when your weight loss is the most rapid, are you all buying clothes in each size you hit?? Or did you find that certain items didn't look crazy once they were too big? I was thinking maybe dresses (particularly wrap style) or something like that would probably be a good way to coast through a few sizes. I just know I won't have $$$ to buy clothes for every size hit, so I'm trying to think ahead. What did you all do? If I could wear yoga pants to work everyday, this wouldn't be an issue. LOL

  30. I really struggled with the decision whether or not to have the sleeve. I thought I should be able to lose the weight on my own, after all, what is more in my control than what I put in my mouth and how much I move my body, so I put it off, and put it off. But I resigned myself to the fact that my weight was becoming a health risk and I needed to do "something". I wish I had done this years ago. I had the surgery on May 7th, 2012 with Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras, Mexico (awesome experience). My weight the day of surgery was 291 lbs. As of June 4th, 2012, my weight is 268 lbs. That is 40 pounds in 4 weeks. I have not had one moment of hunger since the day before s…

Ok, I had my surgery in Mexico, everything went great. I had no problems and very little pain. I actually felt pretty good. I did not have any nausua or anything. I felt this way for almost 2 weeks. I was really surprised at how well things were going. Over the last 4 days or so, I have been getting more tender in the area of the incisions and the area of the stomach. Sometimes it just feels sore, other times it is just a very mild pain / sornes right below the rib cage and just a bit on the left side. I do not have any fever, food is ok, still restricted on what I can eat. The first 10 days or so I got in and out of a car no problem, now when I do it, I feel th…

I am considering getting the sleeve done and am just wondering how many of you regret the surgery? I woke up in the middle of the night last night thinking what an absurd idea it is to cut out a perfectly good stomach just so I can lose weight. However, I woke up this morning thinking that its not such a bad idea. I have been overweight for most of my life and I just don't want to spend the rest of my life overweight. I've been dieting on and off for over 25 years without much success but yet getting the sleeve seems so drastic! Do any of you think that it was too drastic and regret having it done?

I am trying to pin point where my problem may be. I am a graveyard shift worker and I do not have a set schedule on when I eat. I sleep all day and dibble and dabble here and there as far as eating. I wanna say that they are not actually meals. I also find that I have been eating the chips a little more than I should. So far I've told my fiancé, his parents, my sister and my parents about wanting to get sleeved. I'm waiting until I get a surgery date before I tell anyone else. Everyone has been really supportive so far (my fiancé promised to take some time off of work to take care of me after the surgery), but my mom doesn't want me to get the sleeve. She says that she doesn't think it will help me to lose weight. Which doesn't make any sense. She also wants me to keep dieting, which I've been doing for years with no success. I've tried to give her all the info about the sleeve so she knows how it works and how it's going to help me, but it doesn't seem to click with her. Anyone e…

If you have 200+ to lose whether you are just starting or near/at goal, you know that our needs are totally different from those who need to lose less. Not that they don't have a journey, it's just different. I know for me, I find I need more encouragement, my family is supportive, but they don't really understand. 49. I'm not sure it's even possible to answer this question entirely, but it's something I've been wondering about as I approach my surgery date. We've all seen plenty of posts where people say they are in pain, etc ... I'm curious if a comparison can be made. I've had my gall bladder and my appendix removed. Is there anyone out there who has been sleeved that can indicate if the pain you feel after the sleeve is about the same, better, worse than having either of the other 2 surgeries (appendiex or gallbladder for example)? I think it will help my brain if I can compare it to an experience I've already had as I prepare. Thanks.

I do not invalidate them or think any less of them, but I just want someone from around the same standpoint as me that would know what I am going through. I am 5'6". I just want someone that won't mind texting with me and answering questions and chatting with me and gaining friendship. I do not mind female or male. Maybe even one of each to have different perspectives. I'm not picky other than to have someone who knows what it is like from my weight stand-point. I hope this doesn't sound selfish or rude! If it's something that makes a difference to you, my phone plan is thro…
