POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Life after weight loss surgery. Recovery, diet stages, nutrition, labs, complications, and weight regain, whether you are weeks or years out.

  1. Started by Meryline,

Last week I was at my 6 week post op appointment with my NUT. I'm now cleared to eat everything, but I was cleared to eat a lot by day 4. I got no kcal guideline, no really macro guideline. My protein since surgery has been 60g. From now on, I should slowly move from 6 to 3 meals from what I understood, and all meals should include protein, veggies and complex carbs. She wants me to eat bread to cold meals, and a medium potato to warm meals. Oh, and my protein should be about 50%, that's it....that's all the guideline I got. I don't see how I can be successful with this. My body is not happy with carbs, it's what got me overweight (by overeating them o…

I am having surgery in two weeks and was curious to know if we were able to eat any foods cooked in an air fryer. I know that with this RNY I will be unable to eat anything fried, but wondered if there was a major difference in the way food was cooked in this since it uses 99% less oil. Thanks so much for your help.

Ok peeps, I apologize in advance for whining about a stall but Im really stressing about it Sleeved on 2/17/17, lost 34 lbs, Don't get me wrong Im beyond excited about it BUT I haven't lost a pound in 4 weeks. I know, you've heard it all before. I just need to hear from anyone that it WILL pass!! Is there anything I can do? I feel like the weight loss stopped once I moved past the soft food phase. Should I go back to soft foods? Im still getting my protein drinks in and I could probably drink MORE water, but is that enough? Am I being impatient? PLEASE tell me to shut up and simmer down But also that everything is gonna be ok!

So I am 3 days out and am trying my hardest to get my fluid in (cant even think about protein yet). I can only seem to keep my water down if i drink it while walking. If I am standing or am siting while drinking the pain of it moving into my tummy is almost unbearable and the nausea comes on full force. Does this end, will i be able to sit and sip soon? I know i still have a lot of gas roaming around inside me still and my upper back is killing me. Is the gas causing the drinking issue too? Anyone have any suggestions about helping with back pain as well? Tmi time....but boy i would love to have a nice big toot[emoji20] Sent from my SM-N910V using BariatricPal mobile ap…

  10. Hello all, this is my first post and I hope you all can shed some insight! I have read a few posts (on this site and google) about this topic and no real answer has come to be! I had my gastric bypass 4/4/17, and was doing great the first week! By my one week check up I was getting in 3 protein shakes a day, water in between, and a few spoonfuls of yogurt and apple sauce through out the day! I was proud of how good I was feeling. Happy with my decision. Got my staples out (those things are the devil) and was happy! Almost immediately the next day or so I started getting nauseous sipping my shake. Would set it down. Put back in fridge. Try to finish later. Same…

Hi everyone, I'm about a week shy from being 6mos post-op from VSG. I've lost about 45lbs so far but my weight loss has slowed dramatically. I haven't had a stall yet (didn't even have the infamous 3-week stall) and I'm really lucky for that, but I've been hovering at 155 for about 6 weeks now. It's really frustrating and I don't know what to do differently. I'm staying in my calories (about 1100/day at this point) and trying to stay active and hydrated. Am I just DONE losing weight at 6 months post op???! I still have 30lbs to goal!

I had my surgery April 28, 2017. I am also a type 1 diabetic of 28 yrs. Monday while I was driving I had a low blood sugar, so bad that I had to pull my vehicle over and wasn't close to any stores. luckily I had a York Peppermint Patty candy bar in the center console. I made sure to squish it with my lounge and chew really well. however, since yesterday, a day after I ate 1/2 the candy bar, I've been feeling pressure in my chest. I don't have any problems getting anything down, but every now and then, I feel as if there is pressure or discomfort in my chest. since I'm so fresh out of surgery, 6 days now, my band is empty. if I did get food trapped, how will it get fixed? …

Hi everyone. I'm 4 days post op of having my sleeve done and have noticed some really bad discomfort in my lower chest, upper abdomen area. This pain comes and goes but will normally happen when I try drinking water or liquids. If I had to describe the feeling, it would be as if I swallowed 3 pills and they feel stuck. 18. Hi everyone! It feels good to know there's a community out here for VSG patients. I just had my surgery on 5/4/17 and I have no idea of what I'm feeling is a lot of acid or actual hunger pains. Whatever I drink (water, G2, protein shake, etc.) it will go down very slowly, feel like it stops right in the center, a sharp pain, then my stomach growls. I try to make sure I have 2-4 oz of liquid an hour. But I never feel satisfied. I swear I feel like I can eat an entire plate of food. I take Prilosec in the morning 30 mins before breakfast. Yesterday my acid reflux was so bad I had to take another one. Now I feel super hungry. Is it hunger? I wish it curbed my appetite compl…

So my nutritionist gave me a list of foods and one is I can have bread as long as it's toasted- crackers etc. I'm not a huge meat eater so as of now a big chunk of what I've been having is dairy stuff. Im only a month out and haven't lost that much and reading all your posts and how quickly everyone is losing and getting really discouraged. I know, I know everyone loses different but when we don't have many food options and I'm eating tiny meals why am not losing more? I hope one day I will be one of the inspirational stories I have read on here.

Good morning all, I just started full liquids this morning. I had some plain yogurt. Felt ok. Got nauseous for a quick second after. I'm confused about the 30/30 rule though. My booklet from the doc says to begin it at this stage. But it's all liquids. Do you need to wait 30 minutes after yogurt to begin sipping fluids? What about soup? Thanks in advance. I've found these forums to be the greatest thing after surgery!

I had my surgery nine days ago and it went great. No pain or discomfort from day one I could tolerate clear liquids and even an ounce of yogurt several times a day. I am getting in 64 ounces of water in a day and 90/120 grams of protein. I use paleo egg protein mixed into my drinks. I average 700-900 calories a day. I have only lost two pounds since the surgery as good as I feel I am actually afraid that I will put weight on as I don't feel any restriction. It worries me has any one else experienced this?

What are some things you ate to change it up on your liquid phase? I'm about sick of yogurt and Popsicles and pudding and tomato soup and broths. So far the best thing I ate was the broth from a healthy veggie soup my husband made. It was so good I managed to eat 4 Oz and still wanted more. For those that have gone through the soft phase... what was your first soft food recipe? I start soft foods in 1 week and am looking forward to it. I found several pinterest recipes and was thinking of doing either a ricotta bake or refried beam Bake for my first soft food meal. Or would it be better to start with a soup. The healthy veggie soup mentioned above is a base of beef brot…

Hello all, I just had my surgery on May 2nd and this recovery has been far more difficult than I expected. I'm really struggling with getting my 60 oz of fluid / 60 g of protein in and I feel like ONE of the reasons why is it takes me a while to get over drinking my liquid Tylenol. It's repulsive! I've been prescribed 20 mL every 6 hours and honestly I want to cry every time I'm due to take it. First off it's the worst tasting stuff I've ever had (to the point I gag when it goes down) and then it's so thick and viscous that it leaves me feeling super full and nauseous for almost an hour after I take it! Guess my question is two-fold: 1) Anyone know of options other t…

  40. I'm almost 8 months out from my gastric bypass. In the last couple of weeks, I've noticed that suddenly everything makes me nauseous. Everything, though some things worse than others. Whenever I eat, it's immediately followed by this churning feeling that usually lasts about an hour. I haven't felt anything like this since having the surgery, as far as I can remember. My surgeon's office is 5 hours away and I recently lost my health insurance and won't get it back for another 2 months, otherwise I would just be talking to him. Has anyone experienced anything similar and/or have any tips for getting over it?
