Back in 2012 I had looked into bariatric surgery because I was, at the time 245lbs.  I was discouraged by the psychiatrist and opted to just try to stay on a low-carb high protein diet to lose the weight.  I lost 80 lbs in 8 months, but as I always do, I gained it all back by the end of 2013.  Not only that but years of yo-yo dieting had caused gall stones and my gallbladder ruptured in November of 2014 giving me sepsis and putting me in the hospital for 6 days.  I went through two very stressful years because of my job situation and went back to emotional eating resulting in my becoming the heaviest I've ever been, 265 lbs.  In December of 2016 I decided that I would try to see if my insurance would cover the surgery and after jumping through 5 months of hoops I was finally approved.  I had the surgery in early May of this year.  My stomach and liver had grown together so the surgery took longer because my Doc had to separate them before he could cut my stomach.  That resulted in a lot more air being introduced into my abdomen and an extra day at the hospital.  I can't say this has been easy because I'm approaching the 4 week mark and can hardly keep anything down.  I've lost 31lbs which is great but at a great cost.  I constantly have GERD even when I haven't eaten anything, am weak and have trouble getting in all my protein.  Eating even soft foods causes me trouble no matter how slowly I eat.  I'm told by my Doc's nurse that the first 6 weeks are the toughest so I'm trying to deal with all this but it's hard.  The main reason I had the surgery is because I have such a difficult time keeping the weight off.  I'm hopeful that this surgery coupled with therapy for emotional eating will finally turn the corner for me.  If I keep the wright off for one year then I'm going to have plastic surgery to remove some excess abdominal skin so that's another incentive to keep it off.  At this point I'm just taking everything day-to-day.
