  4. I am 5 weeks post op and at work today they had what they called Swiss steak, but looked like a hamburger patty. I ate one fine until the last two bites I had to stop, as I got a very full feeling suddenly and have felt full all night (5 hours later still feel full.) I tried to drink a few sips of water and it just makes me feel full again. I'm thinking my body is having trouble processing the meat. I really haven't had much trouble eating much of anything. Sometimes it just takes me awhile to eat whatever it is I'm trying to eat. Has anyone else had this issue? And what can I do to not feel like this? Do I need to just drink fluids/shakes until the fullness goes away? Th…

How’s dating been for sleevers out there? Just wondering when would be the right time to say anything or if you should say anything. I’m just wondering during outings, like at dinner with someone new you’re dating, and maybe didn’t tell them you had surgery, how do you handle it. I’m thinking they would start to notice how you’re eating...or not eating, especially in the very beginning when you’re on liquids and puréed. I haven’t had surgery yet, hopefully I’ll be approved before the year is up.

  10. Hey everyone, I'm laying here in the hospital. I was sleeved yesterday. I was in so much pain from the gas yesterday but they were running pain medicine through my IV so I was asleep for most of it. I have gotten up a lot to talk but I still have painful gas in my stomach. The pain has been almost unbearable in my incisions too. They are weaning me off pain meds and it's almost more than I can handle right now. Can anyone recommend something to help this gas? The hospital gave me a chewable for gas but that still didn't help.

I’m 11 days post op and today I ate 1280 calories in soup and yogurt. I don’t get it. I don’t have problems eating too much or getting sick. I feel overly full sometimes like today but never enough to vomit or dump. I can drink water normally and never have had a problem with that... other people I know can only eat 2-4 ounces at a time... I hope this changes when I go to puréed and soft foods... otherwise idk why I did this surgery!!! I thought I’d be much more restricted than I am.

I will be 3 months post op of RNY Gastric Bypass and today I took a pregnancy test which gave a positive result. I am absolutely petrified on what to do because it is so early in my journey. Has anyone experienced this or going through the same thing? I’m so confused on what to do. I plan on calling my doctors tomorrow and scheduling an appointment.

  15. Started by Monkeyfulbrighter,

Hey all, I am getting close to 4 months post op and I am only taking in 400-600 calories a day. I don't feel hungry, even when I do, since I don't crave anything I don't want to eat. I know I've not been taking in enough protein and when I remember to try and 'catch up' its later in the day. I can't eat at my desk at work and my work never gave me any accommodations to help with meeting liquid and food intake which makes it a lot harder. I feel like I've gone off the rails but also having a bad mental night so focusing heavy on the negative which I was doing well at combating the last couple weeks.

  16. Started by Mytimenow17,

I know this probably sounds like a crazy or stupid question, but I have to ask... I'm going to be flying out of state the end of the month, and I'm just curious to know if the staples from the surgery can cause the metal detector to go off when I go through security? Just wondering if I need to take any of my hospital paperwork with me showing I had surgery. I will be 6 weeks post op when I fly. Thanks!

Has anyone had an issue with throwing up yellow liquid stuff for no reason? I kept waking up during the night not feeling good, kinda sick/queasy feeling in my stomach. I normally keep water beside my bed at night to drink. After waking up the 3rd time I went to the bathroom and then had to grab a trash can because I felt it coming up. Now I had a flu shot the other day, but I don't think that is the cause. Any thoughts??? Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

I’m waiting for my nurse to come to my house to deliver my meds for my IV. I been taking gas x strips, which really helps me with the gas pain. I’m trying to stay positive. Hello lovely forum community! I was sleeved 10/10, all went well, I had tremendous issue with gas and ended up staying a second night in the hospital however, I’m home now. When I lie down mostly, but even when I am upright sometimes I have this constant feel of small pop pops in my throat. Almost like small volcanic explosions. My mouth salivates as if I were about to throw up but nothing comes out (not even dry heaving), besides I’m not nauseous. It’s not heartburn so my only guess is that it’s gas that’s still in me relocation and breaking up. Thoughts? Advice? Thanks all!

I’ve read that any type of WLS is an automatic disqualification, but I have not found anything current. I did see though that the Air Force does not automatically disqualify you if you’ve had WLS...so my question is has anyone here had and experience with trying to enlist or actually being accepted?

I've been doing protein shakes, flavored water, cream soup, tomato soup, and jello. I just would love something with substance. 32. I asked this question from my surgeon and got no answer so I am asking again: why is it that the "left over part of your stomach in removed in gastric sleeve but the same exact part is left in your body when it is is not used for anything in gastric bypass? The same goes with the part of the small intestines that are no longer used. Why is it left in the body? Doesn't it carry a risk for infection when we leave in our body something that is not used for anything in our body? What if there are still some food particles in the part f the intestine that is left there?

Hey BPs, The topic at this month's pre-surgery diet class was vitamins supplements in the first 3 months, e.g. chewables or powders. Someone in the elevator on the way down had sampled a chewable and we were both gagging (and giggling) at how awful it was. Recommendations?? Our practice offered 2 chewable options and 1 powder option, but we can bring other options in for approval.

  35. So, I had my bypass in Mexico on Sept. 11 and 2 days later had to go back to surgery and they had to completely open me up because of a kinked bowel. I stuck to my liquid diet but I was sick all the time so I could barely get anything down. Nausea, and EXTREME gas, my stomach was vibrating constantly. So my surgeon in Mexico told me I was allergic to whey protein. I didn't have any problems with it before during my per-op but I quit anyways. Now, I still can't eat, if I do it's a probably an ounce and then I'm sick for hours so the I feel like I'm withering away. I really need to to find a way to get the required amount of protein to keep me going, in small amounts, so it…

It is a big cleaning day at my house today. I am considering getting rid of some of my summer clothes that should not fit next year. So those of you have been doing this longer than I have, is this premature? Right now things are loose but serviceable. Hello. I'm weeks out an the nausea is killing me. I can barely function. I thought it was the mess from surgery but it's not. I have a blockage in my throat that only 1% patients receive. I can hold food such as soups or bone broth, I'm still on liquids such as watered down shakes. How long will this last until I'm normal? When can I eat soup and progress like a normal person? When will the sleeve stretch? Help me please. Thank you.

Tomorrow will be one week of VSG, feeling well so far. I feel no hunger at all, and simply force myself to put something into my stomach. I manage to meet my water goal of 64 oz/day, maybe even more (with a few sips of chicken broth every day). But I really fail to manage my protein goal - getting around 15g with my protein shake. I just can't force myself to drink more than 1/2 serving /day. I tried other protein supplements, but they are too sweet -- after the surgery all artificial sweeteners taste really bad. Once I'm allowed to go to the pureed phase, I think I'll be able to get some proteins through unsweetened real foods, like greek yogurts, meats or soups. But I s…

Hi all, I had my surgery on 8/21. As of two weeks ago, I developed a stricture, meaning my esophagus is closing up. Food is not filtering out of my stomach into my intestines because the hole is too small. I've had it stretched once but ever since the procedure last Tuesday, I've felt worse. When I'm not eating or drinking, it feels like my throat is literally closing up, and I sometimes begin to gag randomly. Food has been an issue. I'm supposed to be on solids but can't progress to them as much. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should be doing at this point? Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any issues w/their Ferritin levels post surgery? I am 8 months out and on my past test results I went from 324 pre surgery to 640 8 months after surgery. Per the paperwork, the range is 10-170 ug/L. I am very good about taking my Vitamins and Calcium the scheduled 2, then 4 hours apart and my other Iron levels are good. I am going on vacation for 2 weeks, but have scheduled an appointment w/my PCP for when I get back. I just wanted to get any input from others who may have had this same issue? Thanks so much!!
