Coughing after surgery

Had RNY and hiatal hernia repair 10/03/17, so far everything went well, bit soar, but I occasionally cough up phlegm which hurts to cough.

Does anyone experience this and how long does it take to go away?

Make sure you keep a pillow handy to splint you belly when you cough. This is normal. I took care of heart patients after their surgeries for 20 years at a major medical center. Now retired. Sent

I experienced this. I had my surgery over 4 years ago, so I don't really remember how long it lasted. Maybe a week or two.
