TMI: I’m 3 days post op and things are super rough. I’m dry heaving and throwing up several times throughout the night! My vomit looks like it has bits of old blood in it. Is this normal?

So, I'll be a little over 2 weeks post-op on Thanksgiving Day. My surgery was 11/8. My Dr. said I could start trying soft/mushy foods this week. My family is going to our extended family's big dinner(s). It will be interesting trying to hide the fact that I'm not eating. I plan to use my 10 month old and just hold her and feed her "off my plate." Oh, I guess I should mention, I have kept my surgery a secret. No one knows but my husband. How did everyone do/doing with soft foods? What about like a bite of mashed potatoes? Pumpkin? Are these typically well tolerated? I know everyone is different, but just getting an idea. Anything that I should totally not try? I definitel…

Hi guys, I am 8 days post-op and I'm feeling good! I am so completely tired of the liquid diet, however, I know this is what I have to do to be healthy and successful. Here's the problem... I am a part-time Disney travel agent and I have an upcoming Walt Disney World trip coming up at the end of February. I've been doing a lot of planning while I've been home recovering. I've been driving myself mad reading restaurant menus freaking out that I'm not going to get my protein and water quota while walking 12+ miles a day. At this point I will be just over 3 months post-op. Can anyone give me any suggestions, experiences, advice on how to stay energized and not get sic…

Hey all. I went to the store today and saw all the tables filled with pastries, pies, cakes, and cupcakes. Not to mention the carts full of food for the meal. I do not regret getting my surgery on the 15th, but I am experiencing a sharp burning pain to the left of my belly button and I am afraid I wont be able to go Black Friday shopping! I know how shallow that sounds, but since I dont really have any family near me or parents who have passed, I have really focused my excitements on Black Fridays. But now I may have to give this up this year too! I had a mini cry fest today, now I'm just bummed. But can anyone confirm this deep burning sharp pain is normal? I did text …

I had my gastric sleeve on 10/23 and am on a full liquid diet. However, I mostly just drink my clear protein drinks since I started back at work. I've been feeling really full since I started my vitamin supplements and have a hard time getting in all my protein/water. I now feel that there is a constant lump in my throat (full feeling). I am trying to drink past it, but sometimes I get nauseated. I only urinate once a day and its very dark. I know I'm getting dehydrated, but don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

Hi post-op'ers. Is there anything you've learned through this process you wish you knew going into it? Like, what to bring to the hospital? How to portion/weigh your foods. How to stay motivated? I would love to get some feedback. Liquid diet starts TOMORROW, surgery September 20th. Thanks! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm just wondering if anyone developed extreme nausea two weeks into the liquid diet. I have felt so good up until today. Now I feel wiped out and so weak. I'm doing well getting in my fluids, but today, I'm not doing well at all. The protein shakes taste gross and I can't get any water down, I've tried the zofran, didn't help. I have some promethazine, I'm going to try that. No matter what I do my heart feels like it is pounding so fast. Thanks for listening. I'm not a complainer at all, I was just wondering if anyone else experienced these symptoms. 7 days post op and my sense of smell has gone crazy. Twice I have woken to husband cooking and just could not tolerate the smell , nothing crazy or overly odorous, just cooking. It only seem to bother me when I was sleeping. Has that happened to anyone else? And will this resolve after im allowed more solid food?

I don’t know that I can truly say I regret my decision yet, but I’m 6 days out and truly miserable. I’m a typically positive person, but this has knocked me on my butt and I wasn’t expecting it. I’m in so much pain and hate taking Percocet because it knocks me out. It’s this constant battle between getting fluid in, getting my protein, staying on top of my pain, staying awake, being active and not crying all the time. Thankfully my parents have been great help, as have my kids, but I hate letting people take care of me. I feel like I should be so much further ahead than this. A simple shower wears me out to the point that I’m short of breath. A quick trip to the grocery …

My surgery was Oct 2. All I do is research. Different sights give different information. I read clementine oranges are acceptable. However, they send me running to the bathroom. Which actually I don’t mind because otherwise I go about once a week (that’s with stool softeners). But I just read the sugar in fruit can mess up weight loss. Anyone know the truth?

I was sleeved on 11/14/17 and left the hospital the next day feeling great. I think perhaps I was drinking too fast I started to get what felt like terrible reflux I was told by my surgeon that it was most likely esophageal spasms. at the suggestion of my GP I took a Xanax and relaxed my throat considerably. I also took a chewable Pepcid. Again other than my throat I feel great and I’m already down 12 pounds and two sizes of pants since starting the liquid diet. I’m simply curious if the spasms or something I’m going live with the rest of my life or if this is something that is part of the territory and will go away. Also if anyone has any advice I would appreciate it

I havent had my surgery yet but I used to do Hot Yoga. Ive been thinking about starting again about a month before i have my surgery so i can get in some more weight loss. Has anyone tried doing it after their surgery? How long should you wait to start to do hot yoga after surgery? It only concerns me because you burn a lot of calories in just an hour class and since we wont be eating many i dont want to be too depleted. FYI, i believe my surgery will be sometime in January

I’m five weeks post op from my gastric sleeve. Starting weight pre-op: 296 Weight on the day of surgery: 280 Current weight: 265 For awhile I wasn’t getting my protein in but now that I can eat food again I’ve been eating protein bars to meet my requirements (I make sure I get high protein, low calorie, no added sugar and low carb) So currently I’m down 31 pounds. The past 2 weeks I’ve fluctuating up and down 3 pound (also believe that could have been from my period) it’s just alittle discouraging not losing weight. I know I’m still fresh and new and that I just need to have patience. I’m hoping now that I’m getting all my water and protein in I could have longer workout…

So I️ know during this journey otherwise being healthy, getting the weight off is important. I️ also know it’s very important to not compare yourself to other people because it can get discouraging. My question is how do I stop being impatient. I’m a impatient person in general but reading these stories and seeing people results in 6 months honestly have me worried. I️ would love to be 100 pounds down in 6 months but I️ just feel like that’s not gonna happen. So how do I️ just stay focused and let my body do the work? Tiffani[emoji1528][emoji757]️[emoji175]

I was sleeved on 10/30. It was a Monday. By 11/2, I had lost 10 pounds and since then, have gained 2 lbs, with no loss. The doctor's office casually tells me it will be 6 weeks before I lose any weight. I wrote here on week 2 and a few of you including @Berry78 reassured me. But I have not been walking and maybe am a little short of my water intake. Today, I started blended foods, although I have no problem with solids (I snacked on a few Ritz crackers). Everyone says VSG is a tool. Truth be told, I opted for it so I could have a jumpstart with my weight loss, since like many others here, I have tried so many times. Two things though- one I hate walking- have no energy fo…

My surgery was 11/16 I was very nauseous after but didn't throw up. I slept most of the afternoon. I woke up at 2am and went for a lap around the ward. At 7am they took me for my leak test. Everything came out fine so I was sent home by noon. I'm not in a lot of pain However it is painful when I drink. I am on clear liquid until Tuesday when I can start adding protein. Broth and water go down pretty good but jello and popsicles burn my stomach. I've been pretty active today. Went for a little walk around the block, started a load of laundry and washed dishes. When hubby gets home, we will do two laps around the block.

I will be 4 weeks post-op tomorrow and the pain has been pretty manageable for a week or two. Last night I started with pretty intense, left sided abdominal pain near my ribs. I feel a little bit of a knot and assume it's normal healing, but am wondering if anyone else had this. I've been glued to the heating pad most of the day today because of the pain. It's bad enough that I'm nauseous and I don't have any pain meds left. I've been taking Tylenol with little relief. I do have my 1 month follow up on Monday, so I'm trying to hold out until then. Is this normal?

I’ve been doing good I’ve been getting at least 70-80g of protein a day one need 60g. I only need 64 ounces of liquids and I’m getting at least 100 ounces or more. Not forcing myself, not getting sick. Only once when I drank my protein drink to fast. Dr said it’s ok to take a hour and a half to drink 11 ounces of protein cause it’s just liquid. I do follow the do not drink 30 mins before and I do one hour after even though my dr only asks for 30 mins after. Getting myself prepared for puréed stage on 11/27/17. I’m waiting for them to approve me to go back on Metamucil or something. I’m starting to get some pain back into my colon and that’s scary when you have perforated …

Hi gang! Sleeved on 11/1. Last week felt pretty darn good, except discomfort at largest incision. This week, I am struggling big time! If I walk up the steps, I am exhausted and weak. I can barely shower, and I'm rushing to get thru it so I can lay down. I feel fine if I'm sitting or laying down but as soon as I stand, I'm toast! Exhausted. TBH, I don't think I'm getting enough protein. I just can't take these shakes anymore! It's week 4 of these things and I'm gagging the down. Plus, I can only get about 4oz down every hour. Follow up appt with surgeon is tomorrow so I'll be moving into purée foods-yay! Just needed to vent! I am hoping the purée foods will…

Hi All, I'm 7 weeks out (heading into week 8) and have pretty debilitating and regular nausea. I had to stay in hospital for 5 days instead of the 2-3 because of it and they 'broke' the cycle with a round of 6 different meds. I have been on a regime of medication for it and pretty much tried the majority of prescription meds and a good set of over the counter meds. Ondansetron was the most effective but that is losing its touch. I get around 15 -20 minutes relief and then on the sick train again. I have a fantastic team of medical peeps (GP, Medical Dietitian, Surgeon and GP nurses) but they seem to have reached their limit in their understanding and I figured, maybe…

I am looking at my mixers and frying pans today. I don't think those will be my go-to methods in the future. So - if you would like to cook in a more healthy fashion - what do you invest in? So, this whole relearning to eat thing has gone pretty well so far. The only problem I'm having is figuring out how far apart my meals should be. When I'm at home or work it's not really a problem. But when I'm out I don't really figure it out until my blood sugar crashes. I was thinking a good solution to this would be to keep a protein bar in my purse, at least until I have it figured out. The problem is with my program I'm not allowed any grains until I'm 3 months post-op. I plan on asking about this at my group nutrition class tomorrow but also am curious about other programs. What is your post-op diet like in the first 3 months? Do you know of any grain…

Well I did it,I had my gastric sleeve Monday morning. Here are the things I did not expect. The gas pain in my upper chest and back ? Finally going away. My #1 tip WALK WALK WALK those hospital halls and try to break it up. It may not seem like it's doing any good but it will pay off!! Taking even the smallest tiniest sip of water hurts and not in a nasuse way but in a sharp shooting pain. I have no tips on that one and I'm trying really hard to get fluids down.

I had gastric sleeve surgery on 11/18/16. I was 238 on surgery date and I'm 179 now. Periodically, I've had symptoms that seem like a stricture. Somewhat randomly, I'll feel like food gets stuck at the bottom of my throat, and I get nausea and feel really full after only one bite of food. This started happening about 6 weeks post-op, and I called my surgeon and they recommended I go back to softer foods, and come in if it didn't get better. Well, it got better, so I didn't worry about it. However, it has recurred a few times a month since then but only for a few hours or a day or two at a time, then it goes away. In the last few days, I've felt like a heavi…

I had my surgery today I would say I feel a little ok. I do have pain in my gut, but I can figure out if it is from the gas, eating too much SF jello or popsicles, or is it just pain from where they did the surgery? I’m really struggling with this and the not knowing if I why I feel bad. Can anyone provide any insights as to what I should expect the first week? I will be using the BariatricAdvantage protein shakes - has anyone had these before? If so, how did u do with them? I’m extremely picky so I’m petrified that they are going to be so gross. Thought? Should I have other brands available just in case? If so, can anyone recommend some others? Thanks in advance! …

Hi it's me again! In Taiwan and prepping for surgery in February. Worried that the advice I'll get for post surgery will consist of well, Taiwanese food which I hate. I want to get well stocked up on appropriate things to eat (both for liquid and purée phases) and would very much appreciate seeing examples of what western surgeons recommend. Thank you a bunch!

I'm 10 weeks post op and I'm doing well except for some discomfort/pain I'm getting on my left side. It comes and goes and I can't work out what causes it. I find that I can't bend down to shave my legs for long and I have to stand back up. Some days it's fine and other days it's terrible. Yesterday was a bad day and found myself pushing and rubbing my tummy on the left side all day. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
