So I’m super excited that I have my surgery date... April 16th!! I do have one thing I want to talk about. The few people I have talked to have tried convincing me into getting the sleeve. They all have various reasons but it’s bothering me! I don’t know what the real motive is for this.

So my sleeve is happening on the 2nd, and just want to share some of my thoughts. I have had it with being that fat girl in the group, strangers telling me about their dieticians, and gyms, as though I was never skinny, which I was before having my last child. I am sick of it. I am sick of them making assumptions about me, as though my body is public property to be fat shamed. Yes, I am giving in to the fat shaming by doing it, but I am also getting my power back because I am sick of people that aren't better than me looking down on me. Judging me. I don't want to lose my curves and booty, but I know I will. I am about 85kgs - 187lbs. I hope that…

My surgery is meant to be on the 2nd of December, and I just broke my diet. I had wine and couldn't resist the Thai I got for the children. At the time I was just like, "to hell with it, it's the last time I will get to eat coconut rice", but now I am scared that I have jeopardised my surgery. I just want the rest of my life to start right now because sticking to this is soooooo hard. Do I have to tell my surgeon. Do you think it will be an issue if I stick to it for the next two days? Please don't judge me harshly. Thanks in advance.

I just got some bad news that will require me to put surgery on hold. Being a typical guy, I don't complain about the things that I probably should. Well, I had a routine follow-up with my sleep doctor and he referred me to a cardiologist. I told him that I was feeling short of breath lying down and sitting upright sometimes. I always just chalked it up to being overweight. Today, I had an echocardiogram and the result has made me feel hopeless. There is a problem with the mitral valve in my heart. This will need to be corrected before I can undergo bariatric surgery. For now, my cardiologist increased my blood pressure medicine to ease some of the stress on the vascular …

7 days down, 7 to go. Having surgery on December 5. I'm the first surgery in the morning. My liquid diet has sucked. No way to sugar coat that. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I'm incredibly hungry and angry. LOL. And my brain doesn't work. Really horrific brain fog. When you cut out all carbs and sugar, your liver has to kick into gear and make sugar for your body through a process called gluconeogenesis. You NEED glucose in your blood for basic functions. In particular, your brain needs glucose to function. When you're glucose deprived, it can be hard to concentrate, you can need extra effort for decisions, your impulse -control can be…

I started my journey 02/27/17 Sw-304, Cw-288. I had to follow a 6mos medically supervised diet, the paperwork was submitted on 09/01 and I was denied, due to what they said was a lack of prior attempts at weight loss under the care of a medical professional. I waited for my surgeon's office to appeal, they stated that they would handle that, but after numerous calls to the insurance company, only to find out that no appeal had been submitted, I decided to appeal myself and they approved me, now my surgery is scheduled for 01/29/18. I wanted it this year due to having met my deductible and out of pocket expense, but I'm just happy it's finally going to happen. Any fellow t…

Hi. I Had sleeve surgery yesterday, 11-28. What can I expect the first few days?? I was in a lot of pain yesterday taking pain meds every 4 hours. A lot of gas pain and bloating. I also have a lot of pain and muscle spasms when I try and drink. Concerned because I can not drink a lot at all as it hurts too much... Comcerned, when does the pain go away, when is it easier to swallow with no pain. What else can I expect? Also, any tips?

My surgeon just called. Apparently my health insurance (Harvard Pilgrim) changed their approval form earlier this year, and I'm at risk of being denied because my BMI isn't high enough and don't have diabetes, sleep apnea, etc. He says there used to be a checkbox for "other" where they would put the weight-related conditions I have (asthma, reflux, and high cholesterol) but that checkbox is gone on the new form. He's going to submit my paperwork anyway, but says I may be denied at first, and then he'll have to call them and make my case to a medical reviewer. He said not to get too nervous, and that they had to do this for another patient (with a different insurance compa…

I have Anthem bcbc and went thru the 6 month process. Info was submitted to insurance which I heard back in a week that I was approved. The hospital gave the insurance a surgery date of 12/27 yet when I contacted the hospital once I was approved they sd the next availability that they have is 02/07/2018. Im so bummed bc I wanted it to be this year. I feel like I went thru that whole process yet still have to wait another 2 months. I know I should be excited that I at least got approved but I just didn't think I would still have to wait that much longer

Does anyone have any info on the change that was made mid year regarding 12 month diet for BCBS NC. My surgeon's nurse indicated its not what it seems to be and that they are approving without it but it seems to be at the discretion of the physician. Anyone get approval after May of this year without proof of diet?

I'm through 3 of my 6 NUT appointments and I'm not feeling a connection to her. She's young, never has an opinion or tells me anything helpful. I've asked her at each appointment to provide me with a menu of options i can eat as I prepare. (I travel a lot for work so I want to figure that out). She never remembers and acts like I haven't asked. She's told me nothing about a pre-op diet or if I'm suppossed to be losing anything. Just weighs me and says ok (the 2nd appt I gained 1, the 3rd I lost 3 - my life story). My 4th is in December. I want to know if I'm expecting too much or if I should ask for a new one (it's part of the service at my clinic). What should th…

How much time did you take off of work? What kind of time off did your dr suggest? I tend to have a difficult recovery period from surgeries so I am a little worried about how much time I should take. I will be talking to my surgeon about it on Monday as well. Just curious what everyone else did. Oh and I have a desk job.

Hello! I have been extremely excited about this journey toward weight loss that I've failed to achieve on my own.....however, I have gained 4 pounds during the course of my nutricianist appointments that she advises that I see her for another month before my final appointment with the surgeon and submission to the insurance company (I've already completed the required 3 month visits). Has anyone experienced this? Could this really delay my chances?[emoji17] Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

After months of googling information, I finally decided to join this forum [emoji4] I am soooooooooo excited but very nervous bout getting the gastric bypass. I have Anthem BSBC and it requires 6 months of consecutive weigh-in attempts with my PCP. I am nervous because last month I actually gained 5lbs. Although they said I did not have to lose any weight throughout those visits, I'm afraid that will give them a reason to deny me. Can someone with Anthem insurance let me know how long it took to receive an approval? Was the process smooth for you? My patient advocate said she would send the paper work in as soon as I get the last weight attempt sheet faxed over. I really …

Hi everyone, I just received my insurance approval for the sleeve on Friday. I am really struggling with the decision to go forward or not. I have a good friend and her and I decided to do this journey together so we could support each other. She had a lap band years ago that failed so she was doing a revision to the sleeve. Her insurance approved hers sooner than me (different surgeon too) so she wound up going in on Oct 16 to have hers done. Well, I am sorry to report that the poor thing is STILL in the hospital, almost 1 month later! She was in the ICU for 2 weeks of that time and nearly died. She had a bowel perforation, 2 esphoghus tears, leaks, ICU delirium, an…
