Hi everyone! I am new here and so happy to be here! I am so close to getting my surgery date with only a few more thing to complete. One of which is my pre-surgery weight loss. With the holidays I completely fell off the wagon and set it on fire! But, I am back on track now...for the most part! I am looking for someone or a group someone can point me to where I can connect with someone on a daily basis to help keep me accountable! Strength in numbers, right? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Xoxo

Since making the decision to get Gastric Bypass surgery I've been on a mission. In eight weeks I've successfully been able to lose 5% of my body weight and am hoping to receive a surgery date soon. I can't wait to become healthy. For reasons I actually do not fully understand,, I am electing to keep my surgery private and I intend to tell only a few select people whom I know will not judge me and will only be supportive of my decision. The decision to be secretive about my surgery is presenting a problem as I am a very honest person. I don't want to lie but on the other hand, I don't think it is anyone's business either. Am I dumb for thinking this way? Anybody els…

I have a ways to go until I get my surgery date but my surgeon had asked for a 10% weight loss when I saw him the first time (amounts to 27lbs). I have lost weight before, small-ish amounts that I have always found again, but I was really certain I would be able to do this 10% thing without much of a problem... I'd done it before. All through the fall, I was doing okay. The weight was coming off, albeit super slow. I even made it through most of December with the scale going in the right direction. I weighed in on Christmas Eve I was down to my lowest in the last few years. And then the week between Christmas and New Year happened. I got off track. I made stup…

Hello everyone, I am moving along the process of my gastric bypass fairly well, no surgery date yet, but 2 months left of the classes and all I's will be dotted. I'm actually writing this for my wife. My wife is going along the process with me, but she is about a month behind me. She has many issues, and we're trying to figure out the best surgery for her. In order to keep this post as short as possible, I will briefly summarize here: Early forties Beginning stages of abnormal menstration (irregular/delayed menses) Migraines, sometimes occular. She has tried Topamax, but it caused significant (permanent) hair loss (Has been off it a year). It…

Hi. I'm hoping someone can give me some insight. I was all gung-ho about my surgery. I had al clearances done. I was transparent about all of my prior surgeries. Surgery day came. My surgeon opened me up and closed me after three hours and aborted the surgery due to my having "the worst case of scar tissue I've ever seen" condition. I'm all upset because I NEED this surgery or else I can't have the other surgery I desperately need which is revision surgery on my back (I have scoliosis) where there's concrete causing me to have severe pinched nerves on both shoulders and pain going down my whole left side of my body and resulting in my sciatic nerves to hurt me as well! My…

I'm just wondering what was everyone's results were from their sleep apnea test. I had the worst experience for that department, but to make a long story short, the last requirement on my checklist was the sleep apnea. I did the at home test and when I brought it back, the employee told me I was a 5 and did not have sleep apnea. Then I had to make an appointment with the pulmonary doctor and she told me I do have sleep apnea. So now I need to wait 7-10 days for the machine, use it for 2 weeks, make the appointment with the doctor.. so is 5 negative or positive?

I hope I'm posting this question is the right place. I filled out the pre-op paperwork for Dr Garcia in Mexico and got my quote. I was honest as to having three C-sections and lipo on my lower stomach. I was quoted the standard price. I know I have scar tissue or adhesions as I do feel pain and tenderness at times in my lower abdomen a few inches above my C-section scar and a feeling like something is ripping every time I sneeze. My question is, has anyone with scar tissue or adhesions had any complications with the getting the sleeve and/or healing? Or did it present a problem for the doctor upon going in? Just wondering.. Thanks

Hi Everyone! I am very early on in the process and just attended my orientation this week. My surgeon stated that he will do nicotine blood and urine screenings prior to giving me the referral for nutrition and psychology which i understand. When i asked him how long i needed to be smoke free he said "Try three months and then come test." Heres where im having my dilemma, does anyone know if it really takes the entire three months to clear my system? Ive been a pack a day menthol smoker for years and stopped cold turkey two days ago.It might not seem like much but for me its a BIG victory. Ive been drinking TONS of water. Do I wait the three months and delay my surgery an…

Hey guys, this is for all of Dr. David Kim's patients. How is everyone feeling about the shake up at KBI(now DFW Bariatric Institute)? With Dr. Kim stepping back and Dr. Holden leaving, I'm really worried about going through this practice to get my procedure done. I am in love with the inverted sleeve technique and I really hate to switch to another surgeon now that I am halfway through this pre-op process, but I am not super impressed with the two remaining surgeons. Anybody else have thoughts on all of this??

I've had a bad history with scar tissue/adhesions. I had endometriosis and fibroid tumors. I had a c-section and abdominal tumor removed and this caused alot of scar tissue in my abdomen. I ended up having a complete hysterectomy and my organs needed to be disected due to all the scar tissue. The surgeon said it was one of the worse cases they had seen. Will this be a problem with the sleeve? I was also wondering how much pain is involved in the surgery?

Hi, My surgery is January 8th and I'm currently on a low carb, low fat, preop diet. Plus I'll need to do one day clear liquid on day before surgery. If I lose more than a few more pounds my BMI will fall below 40. Will they disqualify me if my BMI falls below 40 right before surgery? Any suggestions on shrinking liver without losing anymore weight?

I’m literally sitting in the parking lot of my doctors office. After about a month or lurking I decided to finally join this forum, since this is actually seeming real. I’ve been debating this surgery for over a year, but felt I could “do it on my own”. I keep trying to not get too excited, because i was sure that I wouldn’t qualify, or the out of pocket cost would be too much. The doctor seemed confident that I wouldn’t get denied by insurance. I also found out my only out of pocket cost is $500!!! What?!?! That includes all my presurgey step like ultrasound, NUT, psych, endo, etc. Plus, a year or post surgery NUT! This seems amazing!! The only thing is I ha…

Ok, so I was suppose to do a pre-op diet consisting of low carbs w/ only 700-900 calories a day for two weeks prior to my vsg surgery. To say the least I cheated 3 days and now I'm scared my liver hasn't shrunk enough although I have been losing 1-2 lbs a day. I still have 5 more days until surgery which plan on doing a strict liquid diet of protein shakes and water. Will this help?

Hi, i have sleeve surgery planned for the 15th of feb 2018. I have a few questions to the lovely post op members. 1. I want to give up or at least massively cut down on alcohol post op. However I love going out and socialising. What do you drink on a night out with no gas, no alcohol and no (very few) calories? A night out on water is a bit boring!! 2. I have been active in the past running 3-10 miles 3-4 times a week. I have done very little exercise for the past 6months. But I really want to get into ultra fitness post op (obviously not the day after!!) Iron man, ultra marathon that kind of thing. How long did it take before you could do any kind of fitne…

Hey loves! So I have been watching youtube videos on vsg surgery trying to soak up the good, bad and ugly sides of wls. My emotions are all over the place because I am excited and scared to go through with the procedure! The fear of not eating, cause fasting for a hour has me feeling like I'm about to disappear! lol I'm so worried about self discipline and my eating habits. Hoping that my cravings go away after surgery but most importantly, I am trying to get my mind right because I know it is mind over matter, BUT food is so got damn good and it is so hard to break these habits. When you're used to eating whatever you want it's so hard to put the training wheels on …

When I was preparing to have my sleeve surgery, I spent a lot of time on this forum. I found most of the people here to be very helpful. Even though there's every kind of personality here, we all have one thing in common: we wanted to lose weight and be healthier. Approaching any surgery is scary. There are real risks, and real rewards when all goes well. I have struggled with weight my whole life. Total sugar junkie. Used food to replace every unmet need I had, to repress every emotion for which I was unprepared to deal. I gained and lost hundreds of pounds over the course of my life. Hundreds. When my husband died eight years ago it broke me. I shattered, and it…

I have my preop on Tuesday and I have gained 5 lbs from the last time I was in, I wanted to get some last minute bad choices in before I get it done and now I’m paying for it, are they going to give me a hard time about it? Anyone else gain just before too? I get it done a week from now, the 22nd of January. I have t been told to go on a liquid diet yet though, will they most likely put me on one for the last week?

When I met with my nutritionist yesterday she told me that I would no longer be able to have coffee as of ... now! She said it's the caffeine. She recommended tea, which I believe has caffeine. Does anyone know the reason for this requirement. As my husband said "That would be a deal-breaker for me!" Not a deal breaker for me but I'm really curious. Especially because my favorite protein drink, Click, is loaded with caffeine!

So I received my pre op diet plan today but I don't have to start it for a couple more weeks which gives me a little time to shop around. My surgeon recommends bariatric fusion but is fine with a comparable protein powder. Any suggestions? I love pure protein and the premade shakes would work though they're crazy expensive when you're drink 6 shakes a day for 14 days and the powder, while just right for my budget, doesn't stand up to the stats bariatric fusion has. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry it's a bit long. I just need to vent I was going to have surgery on Thursday and I got my blood test with some weird readings. My new pcp opens up with "I'm going to ruin your day" uh grrrr. Then proceeds to tell me that my blood test could mean CANCER and he won't approve me. My abnormal tests can be a lot of things (infections , even stress) from what I've researched. After dropping the cancer bomb Tuesday he told me to call him to remind him to send my surgeon the test and to read it. So I called when he told me and the receptionists shut me down and told me "well, we can't help you, the doctor is busy" So my husband calls and they supposedly agre…

Next Wednesday I have an appointment with my pcp and i'm going to discuss to him about my weight issues for the first time ever and its my first time ever meeting this doctor. My question is how do you go about telling your doctor about your weight issues and for him to give you a referral to a surgeon? I've been overweight almost my entire life, ever since I gave birth to my son 3 years ago my weight increased dramatically and it won't go down. SInce then i've have horrible back pains causing me to have bulging discs on my back, it makes it harder for me to workout. I've tried many diets and some diet pills and nothing. I don't know what feeling full feels like. My knee…

I know I’m jumping the gun but I meet with the surgeon in a week to (hopefully) get my surgery date since all my other testing has been completed. In the time since I have made the decision to better myself I had gotten engaged and am now planning a wedding. My hopeful surgery date would be January/February and my wedding is scheduled in April of the following year. I’m anxious about wedding dress shopping post weight loss. I know with continuing to drop weight it will be hard to be fitted. Anyone else have this issue?

So, I've been pretty vocal at work about me having wls. Mainly because people have been asking questions about me losing weight or avoiding certain foods. I don't see a reason to lie our withhold the truth. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed about it. I'm excited! Anyways, this lady at work keeps commenting on the way I eat now & what I eat. I had skinny popcorn ther other day & she's like "Should you really be eating that?" Then today she asked me how I could eat my lunch so quickly & that much food shouldn't be consumed so fast. I don't think I ate unreasonably fast & why are you paying attention to how fast I eat anyways??? All I know is if this lady does…

I stop drinking, I stopped smoking , and now I'm loosing my last crutch. You're about to commit to a lifetime change to your anatomy, and a lifetime of lifestyle changes. This is a HUGE, DIFFICULT undertaking. Use your six months to get drop dead serious about your diet and fitness. LOSE WEIGHT. If you can't lose weight before surgery....surgery probably won't help you. Behavior changes are critical. Without them, the surgery won't work. Fat people can be fit, or at least more fit......you can start walking and exercising and get your resting heart rate down to improve your cardiovascular fitness....this will make surgery that much safer for you. Even if you have to start really slow, challenge yourself to a few more steps each …
