Pre-op surgery November 27th I'm nervous. I want so desperately to lose the weight and keep it off this time. I'm doing this by myself and I wish I had someone to exercise with. My goal is I just want to be able to run again. Even at the age of 50. My kids are all grown up. And I just want to do something for me to start my life over Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi, I'm on day 7/14 of my pre-op liquid diet and things are going fine, wide awake and over the cravings etc. I've been reading a lot about the sleeve not being as successful as the RNY and it makes me rethink my choice. I am pretty dead set on having the sleeve because I don't want them rerouting my intestine. I've seen a decent amount of people upset because they are not happy with their sleeve because they are not losing as much as they thought. I guess i'm just worried it wont meet me expectations after reading all of that. I like going to the gym and the only problem I had before was portion control. So I feel like overall I could be successful. I gu…

So my surgery is in 2 days. I have not followed my 2 week required Optimist diet at all other than today. I feel like a complete failure and am now thinking about canceling my surgery completely. I've researched this surgery for 2 years, my whole family has had it and been successful. I figured I could be too! It seems though like I've completely sabotaged myself. Even if I manage to not cheat Christmas eve and christmas, I still feel I don't deserve this surgery anymore. I don't want to put my health at more of a risk, thats what this surgery is meant to help me fix...However, I just feel hopeless. I thought this is what I wanted, I was so excited yet my obsession with f…

Hey there, I have been tirelessly searching about having the gastric sleeve done. I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on it for me. The good the bad the ugly. Anything. Also, while I make decent money and have great insurance, my insurance is notorious for not accepting this procedure so I’m seriously contemplating going to Mexico. Other than being obese, I am otherwise healthy. So if anyone wants to stop by, say hey, leave advise, I would be grearful! Thanks in advance. Courtnie ♥️

Hey All, This is my first post so please go easy on me. In short - I'm a 26 y old girl who has had a VERY unhealthy relationship with food my entire life (since we're all on this forum, don't we all!) My highest weight was 255lbs (5'7) last summer. With MAJOR diet restriction and exercising 4-5 times a week I was able to lose roughly 35lbs over the course of 3-4 months. It is absolutely like pulling teeth to lose a pound for me - My lowest I was able to get down to 216lbs. Since then, I've fallen off the wagon, gotten back on, back off, and so forth countless times (Currently 230lbs). I feel the idea of diet and exercise has consumed such a large part of my life and…

I was the first surgery on Tuesday with my group, so with an arrival time of 5:30, I was up at 4am. Got there and it all went very smoothly. They wanted a little last minute blood, they wanted a pregnancy pee test, then on to pre-surgery where I got a couple of shots and an IV catheter in my forearm. Everyone wants to know your name and birthdate...lol. Had already taken the Emend pill for anti-nausea. Was given an antinausea patch behind my ear, and a motion sickness med. Also, a med for preventing blood clots. Surgery went well. Woke up and learned that I'd had a small hiatal hernia that my doc tightened up to help prevent acid reflux. Surger…

Hello everyone I was supposed to be sleeved on last monday the 18. It was cancelled so I have a NSV to NOT have indulged in any food because of my emotional train wreck I had when I learned I had to wait ... 5 more weeks! 5!!!! Anyways my only instruction is: eat healthy, avoid sugar / fat. So really I am at a loss. But I will be careful still I feel like I am let loose without clear instruction. I know how to eat well and whatever but still. I wish they can some example or whatever to help when they have such a situation.

Hello! I’m getting gastric sleeve in Mexico at a slimmer me on Jan 9th. I’m really hopeful and very nervous. I also have been smoking and wondered if anyone else smoked before and when did you quit? The sooner the better, I know. Also how much are you exercising pre-op? I wonder if I should do more or less depending on my liquid diet ? I am worried of feeling drained during the diet . I am ridiculously nervous about not responding well to being put under and also blood clots. Anyone have experiences with this?

I'm on day 3 of my liquid diet and so exhausted I just want to sleep all day. Which would be fine except I actually have to write a final exam tonight. Just sent my husband out for some diet soda. I know I'm not supposed to have caffeine but if I don't have some, there is no way I will be able to write this exam. Were others exhausted on the liquid diet? What did you do to manage it? (Besides sleep?!) I also have to work this week...!

All right... don't have an exact date yet but I'll be having surgery some time in the first two weeks of Feb. So I am 7-8 weeks away. What were you doing at this point in your surgery timeline? I've been holding off on buying a whole lot of stuff because I wanted to be sure about what to spend my money on, and waiting would let me research and plan. Now I feel like I have the green light to make purchases but instead of going shopping I'm feeling overwhelmed, like when I first started researching surgery! Lol. This is such an interesting adventure and the emotions are all over the place. So, what were you up to 2 months before surgery? Were you all ready a…

I go for my last dietician appointment on Monday the 18th. I have gained a little weight due to a new medication. I have not surpassed my original weight. They told me I have to be at my goal weight by the time I go to the class to begin my liquid diet after insurance approval. Does anyone have UHC through an employer? How long does it typically take to get approved.

I've tried looking for some immediate post-op food ideas and have come across a lot of information for people further post-op (for example 7 weeks) but not for much immediately post-op. I understand everyone's post-op diet varies and am trying to figure out what I can prepare/meal prep before surgery for post-op. My surgeon's post-op plan : Day 1- no food Day 2-no food. Water, ice chips, SF fluids, broth, decaf coffee/tea, SF ice pops. Days 3-14 1-2oz pureed (mushy) soft, high Protein meals. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, canned tuna, ground chicken and ground turkey. From what I've read, not very many people start mushy or pureed foods at 3 days post…

I had my pre-op class today and we talked a lot about protein. Problem is, they push whey protein because it absorbs better, but I’m prone to kidney stones and a vegetarian so whey isn’t an option for me. The dietician is going to do some research for me, but does anyone know of a good vegan protein that actually tastes good?

Hi everyone! I have a quick question about the pre-op diet. Is that something that everyone is asked to do? I ask because my BMI is 37.5, and I have to do a three month supervised diet for insurance. At my height, I can lose 21 pounds and still qualify with a BMI of 35. I am worried that the pre-op diet and the three month diet will drop me under 35.

This is my first post but I’ve been reading a lot of threads on this site and have found them helpful. My surgery is scheduled for Dec 26th and I’m having last minute doubts. I don’t want to go into this with doubts but if I postpone it will cost more money (we’ve met out of pocket max this year but that goes out the window Jan 1st). I also went through a lot to get here: facing disapproving parents, nutritional visits, psych eval, endoscopy, group meetings, etc. not to mention hundreds of hours of research. I feel like if I’m going to do this, now is the time. my BMI is 34, but with drinking tons of Water and wearing my heaviest clothes I was able to get cove…

I am 7 months post op and have some leftover supplies from my liquid phase and I would rather not throw them out as they are still good and unopened. I'd like these to go to someone who is already surgery approved and prepping for their post-op recovery and could use these for their liquid phase. I know how expensive it can be to prep for your protein needs post-op and would like to help out someone else who could use these items. This is what I have to offer: 13 packets of bariatric pal chicken bouillon packets. 2 packets of vanilla Unjury protein packets 2 packets of chocolate unjury protein packets 2 packets of strawberry unjury protein packe…

So I read that after surgery people take a few days before having any bowel movement, so I was wondering if it was better to clean your colon before surgery. Sorry if it is TMI but I do think it is a good question. During my liquid diet I had here and there some constipation (I know with high Protein diet it is often a risk nothing to be worried about). I had some days that I did not poop at all. Some it was a couple of days accumulation. I know I was supposed to eat veggies but the Protein Shake fills me. So anyways if it better to use some enema before the actual surgery? I know I would feel better if my bowel were empty and I don't …

So I went In for my surgery this morning as happy as a clam and nervous all at the same time. Next thing I know I'm in recovery feeling terrible. Dr comes in to tell I could not have RNY as I had to much scar tissue. He did repair a hernia for, which I did not know I had. Feeling very down and disappointed, frustrated and a ton of other emotions. Dr said he can do a sleeve in 2 months. I don't know if I can do this again. Feeling depressed. Hi. My preop diet only allows yogurt, popsicles, protein shakes, milk and jello. I start in two days and am really gonna miss chewing!! I read about liver shrinking diets online and it seems meat and cooked veggies are fine. We’re you allowed veggies and meat? Why can’t I eat anything that requires chewing?????

Hi there! I am scheduled for Revision from lap band to gastric bypass on Dec. 12th. I am sooo nervous! I'm self paying so I'm going to Mexico, alone, for the surgery. Can anyone give me some information on how you are doing after your revision, like the recovery period and how much you have lost. I'm really nervous because I was a complete failure with the lap band and I don't want another failed surgery.

Today was such a horrible day for me. I started my liquid diet the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I had been doing fine until today. I had 2 ounces of grilled chicken breast. I’m so devastated. I don’t know how this is going to affect me. My surgery is next Thursday the 14th. I’m so angry with myself right now.

I am looking for guidance. I sort of have a gun to my head right now to have my RNY gastric bypass before the end of the year due to insurance reasons, but I am still not absolutely sure I want to have the surgery. Some of it is fear, but some of it is also the fact that I feel like I haven't tried hard enough to lose it naturally. So, I currently have BCBSM, and after Jan 1 I will be switched to United Healthcare due to an acquisition of my company. I was told by more surgeon that it is highly unlikely that I will get approved by UHC if I wait to have the surgery, but BCBSM will definitely cover it and I have already met all my deductibles for the year. Today I s…

My surgeon's office (the psychiatrist) told me about this book, I bought it and read it- I am sure others have as well- it's called Emotional First Aid Kit. I liked it, usually I start these books (anything self help) and about 2 chapters in I get bored and never go back- but I read this cover to cover, and did the little exercises/lists she suggests. I really liked it, so I thought I would share. https://www.amazon.com/Emotional-First-Aid-Kit-Practical/dp/0976852659/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=

So i go for the seminar next week and i cant wait to get things started. Something that is so frustrating to me right now is the amount of food i eat to get full. I was so envious of other people eating and get full so quick i have never ever ever been like that. I wish i was I feel like a bottomless pit and it is beyond frustrating. even when eating clean or keto or whatever Portion Control is what destroys everything i work so hard for would go down the drain. I need this tool to help me so bad. I have medicaid and im hoping the pre stuff will go smooth for approval i work in healthcare and insurance companies can be butts! I just cant wait to start my journey.

For the past five days I have been drinking the five protein shakes which I purchased from my doctor along with eating sugar free Jell-O sugar-free popsicles and chicken broth oh yes and lots of water. I have been weighing every morning and my weight is jumping around sporadically actually scaring me as of right now I weigh 1 pound more than I did at my last doctors appointment. Should I be overly concerned? Should I stop weighing myself daily? Any advice anyone wants to share with me would be greatly appreciated! Oh yeah and I have not cheated …

I am about to start a new job working for the department of defense and was wondering if there are any federal employees out there who can 1. point me in the direction of the best plan to select that will cover the sleeve surgery, and 2. what are the requirements? I am trying to get a timeline of how long it will take from initial visit to surgery date, so I can plan accordingly. I will be teaching on a base, so I was hoping to be able to have my surgery no later than the last week of March (spring break) so I could recover for a week and be back to work without missing any days. How likely is that, if my first visit isn't until January? Should I start the process o…
