I’m new here, was wondering if anyone is/did have sleeve surgery that also has RA. I was diagnosed with RA in 2009 & take a slew of meds. My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 30th. I’ve read that there are great improvements with the disease after surgery. Mine is categorized as moderate to severe.

I got my sleeve on 11/8. I was pre-warned by my cousin who had her sleeve last March that the incision where they took my stomach out is going to hurt. Anyone else going through this? Any ideas on how to keep the soreness down? So far all I've done is ice it, it helps for a little while until I have to move. I feel like I've done too many sit-ups and I now have a "stitch" in my side.

Please pray for me y'all!! Down 6 lbs so far on this liquid diet so thats a plus!!

I'm interested to hear about long term sleevers (5+ years). Do you have any regrets? How has your journey been? Have you maintained? Most importantly, have you had any medical issues that could be contributed to your sleeve? I hate there's not a lot of long term data on this yet.

  10. This is Day 3 of my low-carb pre-op liquid diet. I'm getting plenty of liquids and appropriate amounts of protein, but my body feels like it's falling apart! Last night, I had severe tooth pain (I haven't had a toothache in years). Then this morning the tooth pain was better, but I have been having shooting shoulder and wrist pain all day. I imagine this is what arthritis feels like, but it seems odd this came on right as I went into ketosis. Has anyone else had this issue?

Hi y'all! I'm new here well, I joined a few years ago and never interacted, and haven't gotten surgery yet. A little about me. I have PCOS and chronic migraine syndrome. My BMI is about 55. With that being said, I'm looking into surgery and have found an amazing surgeon. I'm shopping around for insurance. I found a plan, and the surgeon is covered, but the plan says bariatric services are not covered (I'll post a screen shot of them) Any idea of why that could be? Would I need to go see the surgeon and have him talk to my insurance and they would need to approve me? I'm so confused lol

I had my psychological testing last week and was surprised when I got an email from the psychologist yesterday with a friendly "it was a pleasure to meet you" note, and with the report she gave to my surgeon attached to the email "if I was interested." Given the breezy nature of the email, the fact that I've never had any major psychological issues, and the appointment itself was pretty brief, I was caught off guard when the report contained 7 pages of observations about me, many of which felt like they were coming out of left field. I asked a friend who had the same surgery if she had been given her report, and she said she hadn't (it went straight to her surgeon). …

Surgery day is quickly approaching. I had my final meeting with my surgeon on Tuesday this week, so now it's a slow march to the actual day of. I find myself getting more and more nervous as it gets closer, which I'm sure is normal. I find myself second-guessing the decision, too. Did anyone else go through that? I know that's probably a silly question. The way I look at it is, if I don't do it, then my weight is going to continue to get higher and the pain I already have in my feet, hips, and back is going to get worse and will more likely become permanent. My aunt is 60 years old, probably around 350 lbs, and she is in constant pain from her weight and has trouble movin…

My VSG is scheduled for December 5th. I'm excited for sure but I'm also nervous. I'm doing this alone. I don't have the support of my sister or my son. My daughter is on the fence and my daughter-in-law has said she won't support me if I have the surgery. I've told my few friends and they are supportive but the all have jobs and home life and not able to help out the first few days I'm home. I'll be alone at the hospital and that has me nervous because I'm a bit of a basket case before surgery. Just wondering if anyone else flew solo on this journey and what your experience was. Thanks so much!

Fellow Warriors: These last few days have been hard in terms of my enthusiasm and energy for post-surgery life, even 3 months out. I've had a persistent bad lower back for a couple of weeks, and all the things I usually do to feel better have not been working. Yesterday my PT told me that this is not uncommon during the body "adjustment period" following surgery. And my bad indigestion has come back after I finished with the 3month course of daily Prilosec that I started after surgery. So much so that yesterday, I had trouble eating solids. I have an appointment on Monday with my surgeon , and I'm hoping I'll have an easier time eating today, but right now, I am just feel…

Hi all, First post time. For background, I have an initial consult on Jan. 3 because the coverage for weight loss services doesn't kick in until the new year, so that will be considered my official kickoff. I had an unofficial consult with the same doctor a month ago as a favor to my PCP, knowing I had no bariatric coverage at the time, so I've already had the recommendation for the gastric sleeve. Given the three month supervised diet requirement, that would put me into at April at best, and considering I want to be available for my daughter's college graduation at the end of April, I figure I won't be having any surgery until mid-May at best. But here's my rea…

  40. While theres a general consensus that the Bypass is a good choice for people who have GERD and the Sleeve not so much. Does having GERD mean a sleeve is doomed to fail ? The data ive seen is incredibly murky and wildy varies (some suggest that 80% of people's GERD wont get worse with a sleeve, others pretty much that everybodys will) Almost 50% of bariatric patients have GERD so obviously a ton of people with it that end up getting a sleeve. Whats the outlook on here ? How many people have had success having a sleeve while having GERD ?

I had my appointment with a cardiologist last week to obtain clearance for surgery. Although he said I do not have any current symptoms of coronary artery disease, because I have a number of risk factors (size, strong family history, diabetes, high cholesterol [though controlled with medication]), he wants me to do a stress test. I have the appointment on Thursday. Because I cannot walk for more than a couple of minutes at a time, they will be giving me medication to induce the stress. I am getting nervous. 46. Started by Mattymatt,

Initially things started out looking like I would go the sleeve route but I want to go the traditional Roux-en-Y simply because I believe that I might have a bit of a sweet tooth and it would be better if sweets just were not an option. Plus, my Primary Care Physician is recommending the Roux-en-Y because she said that patients lose more weight and keep more of it off when compared to the sleeve. So, I am sold.

  48. My surgery date is November 9, 2017, and my surgeon only requires us to do a ONE week pre-op liquid diet, which begins for me tomorrow. However, to test the waters I started it today instead. I'm HUNGRY, and I can't keep anything straight... grams of this, ounces of that... I'm overwhelmed. All my life I've struggled and fought to have ANY kind of organization, and I usually fail and make things worse when I try, including keeping up with the dietary guidelines. Biggest problem is hunger right now. Ugh. I've 60g-80g of protein, for one thing (on the paperwork), but in our nutrition class she said it was okay to go over a little bit to 100g. So which is it? Well, 6 DAYS of full liquid and one day (day before surgery) as clear liquid. Everyone I know who's had this surgery (on another group, and one person my husband works with) has given me dark and dire warnings about that. I'm scared because of it, and the surgeon and dietitian are unconcerned and say my Dr has always done pre-op diet one week out.
